@Wipqozn I know what the four horsemen are.That never calls them Darksiders.

@OrigamiRobot oh, misunderstood what you meant.

@Wipqozn -"referred to in this manner." +"called this."

@OrigamiRobot Indeed.

@Wipqozn Quite.

@OrigamiRobot Where in america are you from?

2:07 PM
Salisbury is a city in Rowan County in North Carolina, a state of the United States of America. The population was 33,663 in the 2010 Census (growing 27.8% from the previous Census in 2000). It is the county seat of Rowan County. Salisbury is the home to famed North Carolina soft drink, Cheerwine, and the regional supermarket Food Lion. Salisbury is the birthplace of former US Senator Elizabeth Dole, financier and philanthropist Julian H. Robertson and retired NBA player Bobby Jackson. Salisbury has developed a strong record of historic preservation over the last few decades. It is the ...

You're also in North Carolina?

Nevermind then, you sounded as if you had a southener accent than that.

I also say just "Quite". Do I come across as southern?

@RonanForman That's where "Salisbury" comes in.
Sawlsberry

@RonanForman I find it awful that you can tell regional American accents but I can't place a single English city on a map.
Awful for me, not for you.

2:11 PM
@GraceNote I think that was coincidental and he just meant on mumble.

I can only tell about 4 accents, american, southern, boston and brooklyn.

@OrigamiRobot You're pretty obviously southern. I wonder how I sound to you guys though. No one's commented on me...
I'm too normal.

I'm a dude

looks at rooms list

2:13 PM
It's been pretty normal to me, honestly

sees one flag recently raised
does not have to scan for the blue dot to know it's on this room

@Mana Really? I thought you were a girl.

@Mana That's a pretty random comment to make.

@Mana lolol oh my. That's quite amusing.

2:18 PM
Is your gender a source of insecurity for you?

@ArdaXi She probably is.

@Wipqozn I was talking to @Mana, but you can be insecure about your gender too if you want.

@ArdaXi occasionally I say random things when there's absolutely nothing to be said in the conversation.

@Mana And so you assert your gender, of all things.

@ArdaXi OH HO, WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA‌HHHH

2:19 PM
@Mana Baguette.

...I hear birds.

@Mana Can you stop screaming like a girl? I thought you'd covered this point.

2

Usually don't hear them on this side of the house

Anyway, did you mean "also" as in you are in NC or because you know Raven is?

2:21 PM
The latter. I'm a New Englander.

@StrixVaria I don't really pay attention to accents unless they are distinct. Where are you from?

@OrigamiRobot New Jersey.

I'm not well versed in Jersey accents.

Most people aren't. It's subtle, I guess.

Yeah, I couldn't really tell much of it either

2:26 PM
When most people try to "mock" a New Jersey accent, they say "New Joy-zee", which isn't anything like how we say it.
That's more of a Brooklyn accent.

It's funny that @RonanForman thought I was "more southern" because my accent is definitely less thick than the rest of my family's.
@StrixVaria I would think it would be New Juhzee, but that's a shot in the dark.

@OrigamiRobot That's how people from southern New Jersey would say it.
Intra-state dialects whoa.
Speaking of which, this map is ridiculously accurate:

I think my most southern word is fire.

According to that map, I grew up in "Drunk Rutgers Students", I went to college in "Hipsters", and now I live in "Where they Filmed Clerks".

@StrixVaria What is a "Piney"?

2:33 PM
@FallenAngelEyes There is a ginormous pine forest in NJ in that area.
Called the "Pine Barrens".

@StrixVaria Jersey Devil!

It's a giant forested wasteland of pine needles.

...hehe, Mercedes Benzes

Oooh, okay

@OrigamiRobot I snapped a picture of those, which speaking of which, you find your DS?

2:33 PM
I've never actually been to New Jersey.
Outside of flying in and out of Newark.

@GraceNote LoL halted my search.

Ahha

@FallenAngelEyes I don't like Newark.
It's not nice.

@StrixVaria I don't hate it as much as JFK. That's about the best thing I can say about it.

@FallenAngelEyes The airport isn't bad, actually. I was talking about the rest of Newark.
It's a scary place.
Although the airport in London was ridiculously awesome.
The weirdest part about the stopover I had in London was that the bus to take me between terminals was driving on the wrong side of the road. I kept having panic attacks thinking we were going to crash.

2:37 PM
@mana this video is terribly depressing. I was aware of a lot of this, but was unaware of the drawbacks of solar panels.

@FallenAngelEyes I'd make a joke about how that was a good thing, but I approve of @StrixVaria's gravatar...so I'm conflicted.

@Wipqozn At least you get to hear cheerful baroque music in the background!

@TimStone Thank you.

@StrixVaria Which one?

2:37 PM
@TimStone As long as you steer clear of Newark, Camden, and Seaside Heights, New Jersey isn't as bad as people think.

@Mana True.

@FallenAngelEyes Heathrow.

@StrixVaria I hated my layover there because I was there 3 hours before my flight, yet they didn't know what gate I'd be leaving from yet.
And the airport's pretty long

@FallenAngelEyes I knew the terminal way in advance but I didn't know the gate until about 20 minutes before. That just seems to be how they did it, there, but at least it was easy to find information.
If you've ever been to Newark Penn Station (trains), it's impossible to tell where you're going.

So I just had to wait in a random place and hope I could get there in time when they announced it

2:39 PM
@FallenAngelEyes Get heelies.

Being used to Newark Penn, anything that points me in any kind of direction qualifies as amazing.

@RonanForman ...heelies?

@RonanForman What is this, the 80s?

@StrixVaria Even Camden's OK if you stay directly along the waterfront. In the day. With people around. But I live in Delaware, so I think that occasionally shaking my fist at New Jersey is a requirement for living here.

2:41 PM
@TimStone Fair enough. I went to Delaware once and it seemed like the entire state was empty more than 1 mile from the shore.

That's pretty much an accurate representation of the state. But we have tax-free shopping!

@TimStone If only it didn't cost $15 in tolls to get there.

Hahah, no kidding.

@StrixVaria Eeeesy peesy to recoup.
@StrixVaria @FallenAngelEyes It's actually standard behaviour for low-cost companies
(well I'm sure FAE is already aware of most shenanigans pulled by Easyjet, Ryanair and the like)

Ryanair was confused about what gate my flight would take off from Tampere one time.
Of course, the thing about the Tampere airport is that it's basically just a building with two doors that go outside, so...

2:51 PM
Actually... what are the low cost companies in the US?
I doubt Ryanair also operates over there

@mana Thanks for reminding me there is no hope and we're all fucked.

@Wipqozn Do you need people to remind you?

@Wipqozn Hey, hey now. Don't worry about it so much.

@badp I dunno, I usually fly Southwest when I want to go anywhere inside of the country. They aren't Ryanair cheap, but they aren't bad (and they have the "sit wherever you want/can" policy). I think there are cheaper airlines, though, some more regional than others.
I fly internationally much more often though, so eh.

Actually Ryanair has started booking seats
for a fee, naturally

2:54 PM
Do you have to book the tray table that comes with the seat separately?

@Mana I actually wrote a paper on overpopulation in high school, so I was already pretty sure we were fucked.
This just reminded me of it, and removed some the hopes I had.

@TimStone They're trying to sell the seats separately.

...why are we in a negativity slump?

Your triple notification caused chat to panic and refresh everything. :P

@GraceNote Oh plenty of reasons to assume shit is going to go down in the next 3 to 10 years.
Mainly petrol prices though.

2:56 PM
...aren't those going to go up?

@Mana Petrol prices are shit?

oh
I see what you mean.

Well, I guess shit raises with petrol prices until it hits the fan.

Mmhmm

2:57 PM
Although here in Europe we already pay roughly twice as much as the USiansâ„¢ do, so we have the advantage that we'll actually see it coming!
We can like make stop motion videos and put them on youtube.

They'll be even more effective because people can't convert from gallons to litres.

@badp Gas here in the NL is currently $8.60 a gallon or so

@FallenAngelEyes What the crap?
People must use mass transit way more over there.

@StrixVaria €1.72 per liter
So I kind of laugh whenever my US friends start to complain about gas prices :P

People here complain when it gets as high as $3.50/gallon.

3:00 PM
We complained when it broke $2 per gallon

@FallenAngelEyes Here prices vary between 8.2 and 8.9

@StrixVaria They do, there's also road tax, which you don't have to pay in the US.

I've heard we have it good, comparatively, but I didn't realize by how much.

But there's still hundreds of kilometers of traffic jams here in the NL every day.

@FallenAngelEyes I pay tolls all the time because I'm in New Jersey.
That amounts to the same thing as a road tax.

3:00 PM
@StrixVaria This is different. It's calculated in the cost of your car.

Oh, basically half of the $8.2-$8.9 prices we pay here is in taxes of all kinds. Including one funding WW1.

@badp At least your country makes an attempt to pay off its debts.

or the "war" in abyssinia. I forget.

I'd have to ask Jochem for details on road tax. I don't drive here because I don't have a Dutch driver's license yet.
Which would be because it costs like €800 for a driver's license.

@FallenAngelEyes What!?!
It's like $10 here.

3:02 PM
@StrixVaria You can't just read a book and go tax a laughable exam here.

Oh, yeah, it's actually Abyssinia. So we're still "paying" wars since 1935

I think I rode in a car once in the Netherlands, and that was only because it was more convenient to meet the movie time if we drove than if we took the train.

@FallenAngelEyes Can you pass despite utterly being incompetent at parallel parking and not being able to sidle up next to the curb?

@FallenAngelEyes That's fine and that's probably a good thing, but that's prohibitively expensive.

You have to pay for driving lessons, the theoretical, then the practical exam.
@GraceNote No.

3:03 PM
There are too many awful drivers around here.

@FallenAngelEyes Same reason I don't have one yet.

Ok, that's fair, I paid for lessons. The written test was free. The licence cost somewhere around $15-$20.

@StrixVaria Here you read a book, make the laughable exam, then you have a practical exam. To make this you have to do a number of hours driving with instructors. That's where most of the money goes. At least that's how it goes in Italy. Oh, also add up a couple of medical exams.

@TimStone This depends on where you're going and how expensive the parking is!

@FallenAngelEyes In Delaware there isn't even a driver's test. You take the written exam, and provided that the driver's education teacher things you aren't a menace to society based on your performance in the in-school class, you get a license.

3:03 PM
I'm not an awful driver, but it's... honestly a bit boggling that I passed mine.

When I was getting my Indiana drivers license, the booklet they handed me actually had all the answers circled. And all were right except one. When I told them, they shrugged and put it back on the stack of exam booklets

@FallenAngelEyes Driving lessons make sense, though. I had to get those as well.

@FallenAngelEyes Oh god Amsterdam is terrible with that regard. €3/h parking everywhere

@GraceNote Yeah, those weren't mandatory in NYS.

@badp ...ouchu

3:04 PM
And if you need to park for work? That'll be €4/h.

@badp You were in Amsterdam

@FallenAngelEyes Exactly.

fixed
(Amstelveen isn't very much cheaper though from what little I've seen.)

Parking in Amsterdam is horrid. The Park+Ride system is pretty nice though.

@FallenAngelEyes True. I don't remember having to pay for the parking, but it was a while ago and I don't quite remember where we were. >_>

3:05 PM
@badp Amstelveen is practically the same as Amsterdam, especially in that regard.

You can park in a parking garage outside of A'dam somewhere, then you get a temporary OV chipkaart to ride to your destintaion and back.
For very little money, comparatively.
I really miss driving, but there's no real reason for me to get my license right now because we only have one car anyway.

But yeah, I could theoretically get a driver's licence, but I can't pay for the lessons, licence, car or gas, so why bother.

@ArdaXi Yep.

@FallenAngelEyes Do you get some cool alternative form of identification?

@GraceNote I have my residency card.

3:07 PM
I got my license mostly for ID purposes. I don't really drive if I can avoid it.

@GraceNote We have ID cards here, natively.
You're legally required to carry them from age 14.

Ah, cool

That doesn't look like you.

@GraceNote Did you really think I'd upload my own?

3:08 PM
Is there a way I can answer "Yes" without inspiring you to want to punch me across the Atlantic internet?

@GraceNote I'm not that aggressive, really. I'd just be really disappointed and insulted.

Yeah, mine's sorta like that but laid out differently and has "Verblijfsdocument" on it

Technically, if the insult comes across as assuming you're unwary about the ridiculousness and insecurity resultant from posting your identification online, that's technically an insult to myself for not thinking about it, not you.
Which, still, that makes you free game to be disappointed.

@FallenAngelEyes Yeah, a friend of mine has one of those too.
@GraceNote I'd upload my own if I just replaced all my personal info with noise, but I don't have a digital copy of it.

Makes sense

3:13 PM
I was poking around yesterday getting comments on my newest script. Well i've polished it up a bit and submitted it to the site. What do you guys think.

Q: Chat Easy Input Tools - Provides keyboard shortcuts for common text formatting commands

rlemon About Provides keyboard shortcuts for common text formatting commands, reducing the dependency on mouse usage. Current version does not have a configurable set of hotkeys but later versions will. How to use. All of the following commands are run if the user has focus in the chat input area. ...

</selfpromotion>

Oh, they've got a new format.

^ looks like ontario license now.
^not me

@ArdaXi I have a digital copy of mine because we needed it for something, but there's so much I'd have to blur out it'd just end up looking really bad if I did so.

3:14 PM
credit-card sized identity cards are much better than the paper-based alternative

@ArdaXi Jochem's so happy they switched to those now
Instead of the big piece of paper you had to unfold

I can imagine.

@FallenAngelEyes my parents still have that. I'm glad I don't.

I remember my parents having those.

3:16 PM

A true Italian.

@rlemon Do I need to do something aside frmo installing it to get this to work?

I dunno what kind of car class Yoshi counts as. Probably A.

@Wipqozn Install it maybe?

@badp What info is 4c and 5?

3:17 PM
@Wipqozn install it, and refresh any open chat windows.

Is this question really constructive?

Q: What is Fus Ro Dah?

agent86I haven't yet played any Skyrim, but over and over I hear people saying they "fus ro dah"ed something or other. It also seems to have become a meme of sorts. What is Fus Ro Dah? It sounds like it must be something that pushes given the way its used in sentences. What does it mean in the conte...

@OrigamiRobot "You have already voted to close this question "

@FallenAngelEyes 4c is who released the license. 5 is the license number.

@badp aaah gotcha

@StrixVaria I did too, but it shows no close votes.

3:18 PM
@OrigamiRobot they expire

@rlemon: Really like this.

Oh wait, not if you've already voted

@Wipqozn thanks :P

@OrigamiRobot Close votes go away if it doesn't get 5 within a certain amount of time, but it doesn't reset your ability to cast close votes on it if that happens.

@StrixVaria That seems like a bad mechanic

3:20 PM
It's really really frustrating to see 4 close votes on something and not be able to add the 5th.

@FallenAngelEyes No, they went through
It got reopened, though

@GraceNote Aaah, I see

@GraceNote Really?

Yes, it did

3:22 PM
I don't think it is "based on actual problems that you face."

Better late than never.

Hehehe

@OrigamiRobot my argument is that it's plot or story related. "What does X mean in the context of the game?" is what I was going for there. I've since realized that it's quite a gray area as far as the site is concerned. It got close-voted at the time, so I shrugged and moved on.

@rlemon Erm... I hate to tell you this, but your licence expired 4 years ago.

@rlemon: You're canadian!?
@rlemon: high-five
@OrigamiRobot I think the question is fine. As @agent86 already said, he's asking "What does X mean in the context of the game?". I think that's a perfectly valid question. IT may not be a good question, but it's also not one deserving to be closed.

3:30 PM
@ArdaXi He's got BRO eyes, it dun matter

@Wipqozn Ontario Native. (and native american on top of that... so Canadian++)

@rlemon or C++ for short.

@Wipqozn where are you from?

@Wipqozn I disagree. I think it only helps people who haven't played the game understand the joke.
Similarly:

Q: Where did the "arrow in the knee" joke start?

IsziI've heard the "arrow in the knee" joke pop up in a few discussions around here and elsewhere, mostly related to Skyrim. I'm aware that this is probably in reference to a generic quote said by many NPCs (mostly guards) in the game. However, I'm wondering if there's an older reference I might be...

@rlemon Nova scotia

3:45 PM
@Wipqozn I had my chance to fight the "is this a good question" fight and opted to just say "hey, I think it is, but maybe I'm wrong, let me shine a light on this and you guys make your own determination." I then released any feelings I had about it, good or bad :)
I have accepted the fact that regardless of how happy I am with a post I make, it survives until such time as the community decides it is worthless.

This is what downvotes are for

btw I still have a pair of sunshades to give away for TF2

@badp whut

Gah. That arrow to the knee thing was barely funny when it was new. Just reading that comment in the question makes me want to punch a kitten.
I demand the ability to downvote comments.
3

@IanPugsley I, uh, have a pair of sunshades for TF2 that I can give away but would rather not give to myself.
And you might have them already, in which case you won't get a new copy of those.

@OrigamiRobot Oh, hell no.

@badp the Summer Shades from last year's summer thing?

@IanPugsley Nope.

@Ullallulloo MsDugITBANI

3:57 PM
@Ullallulloo Yes. Also there is something if you hover over it
Oh that is cool. If you hover you get a zoomed image of that part of the time line thing that you can hover over for more granularity

@badp well I don't have any of the sunglasses (wiki.teamfortress.com/wiki/Sunglasses are the only ones I know about), but I don't play super often, so I'll only take 'em if nobody else wants them

@Ullallulloo Yeah, that's weird.

@IanPugsley Yeah, I'm talking about the professor specks.
