Q: Why did I take damage from landing my boat on a slab?

I wanted to create a "harbor" for my boats, and I read that slabs will not damage the boat if I sail onto it. But when I tested it out, I instantly died the minute the boat touched the slab. How do I fix it? Here is a picture:

Q: Why is clay rare?

A while back I was digging in my mine, near the bottom level of my map, and I found something odd-- clay! So, I cooked the four blocks I found and it gave me some bricks. Awesome! I've never seen clay again. I consulted the Minecraft wiki and it stated that clay is more rare than diamonds but...

I have two objects, A and B, that are constantly getting returned.

At the start of the program, I want to return A more, and by the end of the program, I want to return B mroe.

The way I do this, is I track the program's completion %, turn that into a double, and then use a Random.nextDouble to determine which one I should return.

you essentially have three curves that are added together to make 100%

I'd probably set up some number of points for the various "probabilities" that each will return

and then interpolate

ie, at completion = 0%, A = 80%, B = 10%, C = 10%, so you grab a random number between 0 and 1, and then if it's less than .8, return A, less than .9, return B, else return C

completion = 50%, A = 10%, B = 80%, C = 10%

then for completion = 25%, you'd want to be halfway between, so A= 45%, B = 45%, C = 10%

a look up table + interpolation is a pretty common approach to these sorts of problems

if you can represent the curve you want as some sort of polynomial or something, that's kind of ideal, although it can get more computationally complex

ie, if you could figure out some combination of parabolas or sine functions or something that map the three pieces together perfectly, you could just figure it out that way

frequently, though, you switch to a LUT/interpolation solution because you know the functions, and they're just too complex to compute constantly.

Gameplay videos I understand at least (though unless I played, I find them boring to watch). I just hate the ones that are some jerk sitting in front of a camera talking.
