7:00 PM
@FAE I've played this. It's a fun game (Suika gave me the most trouble), but I feel that some sort of saving/continuing system might've nice, but the game's short for you to get by without it. Oh and the character art is very well done

FAE
@GraceNote I seem to have lost the vendor links you gave me a couple years ago, as I wanted to check prices. I was trying to find them in the transcript and failing.

@StrixVaria I would like to say that I've reviewed @WorldEngineer's actions and they seem appropriate to me.

FAE
@Krazer Oh, you have to finish it in one sitting?

I wish I personally was more sensitive to this kind of issues.
Also, having a little fun with your mod powers is part of the job description.

Q: battlefield 4 installing problem

iMAGEboxwhen i insert disc 1 im starting installing it, when its on 1% it stops installing and says same before starting installation, when i check hard drive there is 60-80mb battlefield installation and not 2gb installation. i have 20gb HARD DRIVE and i have no games istalled at this moment but i tried...

7:06 PM
I want to stress that:

@FAE The vendor I used to use closed down in like 2011.

@badp I didn't actually look back; he only changed it for like a minute so whatever. But it's not the first instance of him coming into this room and kind of acting like he owns the place.

* There is no such thing as an "official arqade room"

@FAE It is not very long, it should take ~20-30 minutes.

* On chat all mods are equally so
...even if saying that undermines my authority because I'm one of hundreds rather than one of 5

FAE
7:07 PM
@Krazer Oh, okay, I didn't realize that.
@GraceNote Well, crap. I seem to remember you linking me to a page with various vendors listed, I think? Ugh, I can't find it.

@badp naah, now you can just go "we are mods, we are legion"

If I had something like that I'd still be importing.

@KevinvanderVelden we are mob

@Krazer "resistance is futile, you will be mod-abused"?

FAE
@GraceNote Crap. Thanks anyway!

7:10 PM
If you feel a ban is too heavy-handed, or too soft-handed, all you have to do is catch the attention of any other mod around

@KevinvanderVelden you will be mod-mobbed.

Fun fact: growing up in an area that doesn't usually see this much snowfall, I don't have a pair of boots for working in said snow. Clearing my truck off in tennis shoes is awful, and I can't feel my feets.

hi peoples :3

I leave my boots in the trunk half the time which doesn't help when I need them to get to the car

@Fluttershy :C

7:12 PM
@badp Even if you are technically correct, it does not go over well in here when what is perceived as "outside mods" start flexing in here.

@spugsley Hullo, lady.

@Sterno fair enough, but when somebody starts being a complete ass and no arqade mods happen to be around, the other mods are your only hope. If you scare them away, they won't come to help.

If I were a mod here, I expect it would likewise go over poorly if I headed over to The DMZ or something and started modifying their room.

I can't tell you to like it
but I can tell you that if you think World Engineer overbanned some person, you can ask any other mod to act and release him sooner
and that's good!

Also, dealing with problem users is an entirely different issue than editing people's messages or using room owner tools "for fun"

7:15 PM
@Sterno The uglier the roar, the less likely it is that a mod will come to help when the time comes

@badp Good thing we're getting three more mods here then!
Besides, is this roar all that ugly?

"Not your site, go away" becomes "not my site, not my problem"
@Sterno There's been worse. A couple years ago a bunch of people got all high and mighty over Ivo
over a pin
that was patently silly
and if you don't know who Ivo is, well, now you know why you don't know about him.

@Fluttershy Try tuck a some plastic wrap or a plastic sandwich bag (and some paper napkins or towels for insulation) between the upper tip of the shoe and toes... this prevents cold air from reaching your toes. it's thin enough to fit in my shoe without switching the kind of socks you wear

@badp Until a minute ago, this only amounted to like a half-dozen messages a few hours ago in chat, right?
Or did I miss something?

@badp Hmm... goes off to file a patent for being silly, online, on the Bridge

7:18 PM
@Sterno I dunno, I just saw the pings from chat
I personally think this is important, though.

I don't even think it was the particular incident of renaming "The Bridge" to "The Bakery" for like 20 seconds that was an issue. It's a history of him using mod powers in here to modify things in a way the community usually isn't down with. Always very, very minor stuff. No single item to get too worked up about. Even as a whole, not much to get worked up about. Just an annoyance, is all.
Part of it is just that when you do not have power, you don't like to see other people, particularly outsiders, flaunt theirs.
In short, we're all just idly complaining. I don't think anyone is up in arms to lodge some silly complaint to SE or anything. It's more of a "We'd rather you stopped doing this" sort of thing

@Sterno You do have power to change the room name and tags, don't you?
@Sterno Fair enough.

At this precise moment I do. :P

and so do others of our many italic'd people
That's why we have owners!
in addition to annoying Wipqozn that is
...and those who would love to get it and won't

Here's an example of something I can't do that an outside mod can:

7:24 PM
@Sterno Yeah... I didn't like that.

@Yuki Me either, but at the same time it was something super minor and trivial. Pointing to just that is like "So what, dude?"
It's just not a pattern I want to see repeated.

Report those things. You're under no obligations to just tolerate those things. If you think one incident is too minor to report, keep a notepad of these incidents and jot them down as they happen.

> You read 260 words per minute.
That makes you 4% faster than the national average.
Bleeeeeeeeeeh. :(

More like average shy

You are specialer than average! Hooray.

7:26 PM
@Sterno At the same time, if it's something minor, it should be no problem for the behavior to stop if you don't like it.

I need to learn how to read gooder.

user20683
@Sterno My understanding is that a little harmless shenanigans modwise are par for the course here and "fun" as it were. It's not like I'm up and banning people arbitrarily. On the other hand, if the room has no sense of humor, then I shall respond in kind and stop. I have largely stopped with "mod abuse" as it were anyway.

I'd like to make it clear I'm not mad at any mod who has come in here. I'm not out for heads. I'm not even upset despite me keeping talking about this. My point is that it's a type of behavior I don't like, minor as it is, and I will complain about it, minor as it may be, when it happens. I have yet to see any mod truly do anything abusive or keep doing something like that after being asked not to. I see no need to report anyone.

oh no there's more weird green in my inbox

7:27 PM
@WorldEngineer Gee, now I have no sense of humor. Thanks.

user20683
@Yuki well how would you rather I be? Probably not here but you lot are enjoyable enough to be around that I'd rather not forsake this place.

Q: Stean wont work

IanPatonMy computer was reformatted but the when I try to open Steam now it gives me this message "Steam failed to load StartSteamEngine(0x1bf598) failed with error 1. Unable to write to the current Steam application folder. Please move Steam to a folder where you have write priveleges" Sorry but I am an...

@WorldEngineer I don't mind joking around and whatnot, but editing other people's messages just smacks of something wrong in my opinion. I know you haven't done that, but that's my issue with outside mods.

I'd like to point out that this entire discussion sounds entirely more serious an issue than it is. :P

7:30 PM
@Sterno Well said.

@WorldEngineer I think the implication that complaints mean we have no sense of humor is a bit unfair.

Sense of humor is the first thing to atrophy when you get old.

user20683
@OrigamiRobot fair enough. It's hard to tell sometimes. My sense of humor doesn't translate very well over the internet anyway.

7:33 PM
> You read 310 words per minute. That makes you 24% faster than the national average.

@Fluttershy 864!

> You read 1,937 words per minute. That makes you 675% faster than the national average.
Umm...
I got really easy questions.

@Yuki I was going to be more cynic than that.

I had to read one sentence like 3 times because I always get distracted when I'm reading.
"That word looks like this other word and this other word means this other thing and yada yada yada... oh wait what am I reading about again?"

I was reading that, and although I was 68% faster than average... the wording seemed a bit weird in spots.
Is this from a real book?

7:35 PM
I got Alice in Wonderland and my questions were 1) Who was Alice sitting with? 2) What was she attempting to make? 3) What did the rabbit pull out of his pocket?

Q: If you sum up all the pros and cons in a gun in Terraria, which gun would be best?

Terraria GuyI am looking for the gun to get first, so please can anybody tell me what is best?

I really didn't have to do any serious recall to answer those...

> You read 15,313 words per minute.
That makes you 6,025% faster than the national average.

For completeness: 1) Her sister. 2) A daisy chain. 3) A watch.

Yay for having the same questions every time.

7:36 PM
@StrixVaria Oh, I screwed up the first time, retried and got something different.

Oh, so these are different passages each time

user20683
741 words per minute

I got War of the Worlds
“It’s a-movin’,” he said to me as he passed; “a-screwin’ and a-screwin’ out. I don’t like it. I’m a-goin’ ‘ome, I am.”

I got 1758 on a book I already read.

That line really messed me up

7:37 PM
> You read 341 words per minute.That makes you 36% faster than the national average.

~600% faster again. I'm gonna see what my average over 5 is.

if we're all better than average... what does that say about the test?

And English is not my native language. I read way faster in Dutch.

On my real attempt I got 89% faster than average (whatever that comes out to in wpm), but I definitely skimmed it and just got lucky on the questions.

@Sconibulus That Bridge people are really smart and fancy?

user20683
7:38 PM
@Sconibulus That we are educated, intelligent people

"Hey, this reminds me of that song Butcher Pete" sings a little to himself "Oh, remember Barry the Chopper from FMA? Man, that was a good series. Oh yea, this is a timed test"

@Sconibulus Nothing.

I could read War and Peace in 5 hours?

This is why I can't read books.

Wow.
@OrigamiRobot Honestly, you shouldn't care about your reading speed. So long as you're having fun reading your books, that's all that should matter.

user20683
7:39 PM
harry potter in two hours actually sounds about right

@Yuki Being constantly distracted by what words look like isn't fun.

War and Peace in 1 hour sounds wrong.
Just wrong.

It would probably be more accurate if they didn't choose books that were classics. I could have answered the questions without even having read the passage.

user20683
"There was some War and some Peace...also Russians. The End."

@Sconibulus Their average includes everyone who can read - their graph starts with 3rd grade students.

7:41 PM
@Sconibulus People who use computers tend to read more.
People who read more tend to read faster.

user20683
Programmers tend to read faster as well

user20683
since we do so much of it

I tend to read fiction slowly, because I read all conversation at real-life-conversation speed

@WorldEngineer I usually just delete things until the red Xes in visual studio go away

I did well on that test though because it was full of weird accents and dropped consonents and stuff, so I skimmed the speech

user20683
7:43 PM
@BenBrocka I use a plain text editor, that doesn't work unless I'm fiddling with rails.

@Sterno Cheater!

@Yuki @StrixVaria I said no cheating! D:

@OrigamiRobot I got all three questions right, so I must be okay!

@WorldEngineer I usually use notepad++ for web stuff but I use visual studio for, well, our visual studio projects

user20683
@DavidM Afternoon Dr. M, welcome back to the madness.

7:44 PM
@OrigamiRobot Are you doubting the accuracy and science behind their test? HRM?

user20683
@BenBrocka I've been stuck on a Mac for a year now

@WorldEngineer Are we back on why did that question close/open/close/open/close?

user20683
@DavidM not in so far as I know.

@Yuki Also, Alice in Wonderland is totally unfair because it's full of puns and wordplay and other nonsense.

@Fluttershy I got 666 wpm my second time. It should have told me how long it would take me to read Revelation.

7:46 PM
Okay

@Fluttershy I retook it 3 times because the first two were too easy!

So when a potential employer sends you this email:

And I kept getting ~600% faster!

why did my tag creation get deleted?

> RedRiderX:

What are your thoughts on becoming a programmer?
what the heck do you respond with?

7:48 PM
-2
Q: How do you get the party girl in terraria?

Terraria GuyCan you please tell me how to get the party girl and what she sells for how much?

@RedRiderX "I'm ready to burst through my cocoon like a beautiful butterfly. When do I start?"

Also, I'm pretty sure I'm already a programmer, but whatever

That's a fairly awkwardly worded question, for ^ that reason.

@TimStone Hmm so tempting

@RedRiderX Read as: What are you thought on having become a programmer.

7:49 PM
Oh, I suppose I should vote in the election.

@OrigamiRobot Well, I'm not that much of a programmer yet

@Wandang Tag wiki creation?

@TimStone But you're not running. Who will you vote for? Anyone else seems useless.
@RedRiderX That makes the way i said it make more sense.

And I honestly think that this first reading of it was their intention.

7:51 PM
@Yuki yes

@OrigamiRobot Maybe next time... rubs hands menacingly But a gentleman never tells.

@TimStone monocle Indeed.

and thanks @WorldEngineer for the ban

@OrigamiRobot Hmm.
Good point

7:52 PM
i was not aware that the word i said is still an insult in your mind considering we are living in the 21 century

@Wandang Tag wiki edits need to be approved by a third-party until you get 5,000 rep.

@Yuki it was approved. i got a notification for that

Also, we may have had some issues with the tag before it became the name for an actual game.

still i see a blank page when i surf to that page

@Wandang IIRC, tag wikis take some time to update even after approval.

7:54 PM
over 30 min?

It won't appear without an excerpt, which there isn't one.
Presumably the excerpt is still pending approval or was rejected.

You read 380 words per minute.
That makes you 52% faster than the national average.
3rd

@StrixVaria For some reason this brought mental images of Adventure Time Candy Kingdom citizens holding picket signs and shouting at the establishment.

That's not bad right :)

@KevinvanderVelden link?
i read about 10 per minute

@Yuki INB4 - YOU DIRTY CHEATING EDITOR

@KevinvanderVelden Oh, are we playing that game?

@Yuki wellll, sometimes =p

@KevinvanderVelden I play to win, buddy.

> You read 582 words per minute. That makes you 133% faster than the national average.
\o/

7:58 PM
@TimStone o.o
@Yuki it's not playing when you're cheating

You read 276 words per minute.
That makes you 10% faster than the national average.

@KevinvanderVelden :o?

@KevinvanderVelden Hey, Karate Kid taught me that the only time cheating doesn't win is when your opponent is being taught by a old Japanese magic man.

7:59 PM
@TimStone o.O
