I've had issues with both browsers. IE11 breaks some javascript stuff, since some javascript html-editors just stop working in it.
@Arperum what browser is perfect?
The real evil, here, is Windows XP.
I am troubled to hear that $LARGE_MULTINATIONAL_ENTITY_THAT_TOTALLY_IS_NOT_ORACLE is still stuck with XP.
@badp None, I've had minor problems with Firefox too, and some table fuckups with Chrome.
> tables
> 2014
@Braiam Data. Or external nonsense.
Or even fucked up stupid legacy websites. Or user inputted stuff in a CMS.
It's not because it's a completely misused tag that you should break it. Also: html-mailings.
@Braiam CSS is awful at tables. Even more awful is green text.
14:05
Because the most-used emailclients don't support 50-80% of css
Who the fuck uses XP? >_> (morning peoples)
html-emails are the worst thing in the universe to make. no reuse at all ALL css inline because some stupid thing doesn't support css in the head element. ANd some other thing doesn't support css in a style tag in the body. Or neither.
@Unionhawk Way too many people.
@Unionhawk PEOPLE WHO SHOULDN'T
@Unionhawk Way too many people.
14:10
That said there's still people proudly running Windows 98.
@Arperum You piqued my interest, but I can understand that you can't disclose your client.
But IE8? Seriously?
@5pike Read a bit on in the transcript, it's kinda obvious.
Do you remember the good old days?
The good old days when Microsoft could get away with installing ads on your desktop by default?
They sure are old days.
Vaguely. But not really. Those are, indeed old days.
14:13
I remember win 3.1, 95, 98 and ME, but that time, we didn't have access to the internet
4k screen for $500. Guaranteed trash.
@Sterno Oh wow, Amazon is finally dropping the image buttons.
@badp I don't recall that ever being on win 98
@BenBrocka You don't recall Active Desktop?
I do remember that lovely turquoise background that was default though, and that lovely color palette
14:14
@badp I have a memory of some shop-bought game-disc that had a virus in the startupfile that ended up killing our windows 3.11 PC slowly.
@BenBrocka Came with IE5, I think.
@BenBrocka It really does look nasty now. All that gray.
@StrixVaria It doesn't really offend me.
@StrixVaria The future was grey and beige back then
The Windows 95 UI was... not that bad. The icons were tiny and low-res and bad, but necessarily so.
@BenBrocka It's really fun to look at aesthetic design over the years.
@StrixVaria yeah, I wish more places cataloged it, especially with animations/in context, not just still screenshots
@badp Is that a popup on the side, or is that just a "feature"? I can't tell. I used to play Pajama Sam, and some other stuff my cousin would hand me down, but that's it.
@KernelPanic A feature you got through installing IE5, I'm fairly certain.
14:17
@BenBrocka Nobody told Apple the news then.
@badp Reminds me of the preloaded software that prebuilt computers have, or it may have been different then.
@KernelPanic They still have preloaded software.
@Unionhawk Better XP than Vista.
Yeah prebuilts are still awful
That is not a thing that ever stopped existing.
@badp I never said they stopped doing it.
14:19
@OrigamiRobot Provably wrong.
@KernelPanic The short lived Active Desktop. Too early for that idea - it brought most systems to their knees.
@KernelPanic OS9 was pretty damn grey
@BenBrocka Laptops aren't bad, but I usually do a clean install. That or use something like Revo, CCleaner, and more.
@JasonBerkan Short lived? It shipped on Windows 98, ME and 2000.
@badp also XP! You just had to turn it on
14:20
@badp Shipped != installed and / or used.
The thing it was mainly good for, though, was crashing.
@JasonBerkan What? plenty of people still use desktops.
Laptops are tricky because you're basically forced into getting prebuilt. And sometimes they include important drivers
@KevinvanderVelden I'm fairly certain XP is where it was removed?
14:20
Active Desktop was a feature of Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0's optional Windows Desktop Update that allows the user to add HTML content to the desktop, along with some other features. This function was intended to be installed on the then-current Windows 95 operating system. It was also included in Windows 98 and later Windows operating systems until Windows Vista, where the feature was discontinued. This corresponded to version Internet Explorer 4.0 to 6.x, but not Internet Explorer 7. Users can add HTML both in place of the regular wallpaper and as independent resizable desktop it...
@KernelPanic Not active desktop--I actually don't recall ever hearing of that
@badp Included with Windows 95 or NT 4.0 with Internet Explorer 4.0, Windows 98, Windows 2000, Windows ME, Windows XP, Windows Server 2003
@KevinvanderVelden Ugh. I think SP1 removed it?
I never even knew what Active Desktop was other than a feature that made you click a button to see your background.
14:21
It certainly shouldn't be in SP3.
@BenBrocka You can build them yourself, but it's harder, and sometimes more costly.
@OrigamiRobot Same
@badp not sure, I think it was just default off and fucked up your stylesheet when on
@OrigamiRobot Active Desktop basically lets you set a webpage for your background.
That's all it did. Somebody thought it was a good idea.
It even let you have floating web pages on your background.
Like that ad bar thing up there.
@KernelPanic Well some places sell "customizable" ones, but the customization is pretty negligible compared to desktop and with major downsides (size, weight, heat)
14:22
@badp A webpage as your background? that seems kind of cool, but in practice a terrible idea.
Uh, IE4. Not IE5.
Especially as we were on 28K modems at the time.
@JasonBerkan You'd use a local webpage obviously.
Could you set your entire background to be geocities under construction gifs?
For the record IE is miles better than what it used to be.
14:23
@BenBrocka Yes!
@KernelPanic IE11 is even almost good! I still never use it...
and you could make them blink and marquee.
with different speeds.
in different directions.
The future was awesome.
@BenBrocka Almost usable, but not quite.
Firefox finally killed Blink :(
@BenBrocka CSS 3 animations to the rescue?
14:24
I don't think IE has any alternatives for AdBlock, NoScript, and all of my addons.
@KernelPanic I actually think they do, my dad used "IE7 pro" (which was not only for IE7) to get adblock and stuff because he didn't use Firefox at the time. I don't know what browser he uses anymore
@badp I remember that screen.
@RedRiderX Not sure why image, but yeah.
14:30
Oh man its cold out there... I should probably put pants on.
Good morning, Bridge
3
I never got to use this one :(
@Unionhawk pant's are horrible but that is probably the only legitimate use for them
We should totally get some Microsoft Comic Chat action going.
That would be really hipster.
14:32
@badp What the hell?
@badp What the hell is that?
@badp Propose it as the next April Fool's joke.
@KevinvanderVelden No, the solution is to not go out.
uh, apparently it's merely an extension of the IRC protocol
14:32
@badp There is an "assmaster" in your list of characters.
@OrigamiRobot sometimes it is cold inside as well
@Arperum I blame Wikipedia.
Microsoft Comic Chat (later Microsoft Chat, but not to be confused with Windows Chat, or WinChat) is a graphical IRC client created by Microsoft, first released with Internet Explorer 3.0 in 1996. Comic Chat was developed by Microsoft Researcher David Kurlander, with Microsoft Research's Virtual Worlds Group and later a group he managed in Microsoft's Internet Division. Comic Chat's main feature, which set it apart from other IRC clients, is that it enabled comic avatars to represent a user; this character could express a specified emotion, possibly making IRC chatting a more emotive and...
@KevinvanderVelden Wear a robe.
> Microsoft Comic Chat installed a custom font, Microsoft Comic Sans, that users could use in other applications and documents.

@BenBrocka
14:34
@OrigamiRobot hmm plausible
@badp shrugs that's all that I found
> In the Netherlands popular radio DJs Coen Swijnenberg and Sander Lantinga decided to celebrate the font by having a comic sans day on the first Friday of July. Comic Sans Day has been held since 2009. Some Dutch companies, e.g. KLM, have their website in Comic Sans on this day.[14]
@badp Honestly, that's one place where Comic Sans is actually appropriate.
What the fuck
14:36
@Yuki There are other comic fonts
@BenBrocka I apoligize on behalf of my country.
WOHOO. My IE8 bullshit crap thing works. and doesn't unbreak in other browsers. I officially hate it.
@RedRiderX I remember actually clicking on those Os in middle school. Those were dark times
@BenBrocka So if you ever have alternatives, you should never choose [insert-specified-object]?
Dark times when school PCs still defaulted to Ask Jeeves
14:37
@BenBrocka Hah yes dark times indeed.
My only problem with Comic Sans is that people use it in stupid places. Like term papers.
@Yuki You should when it's something generally reviled (and designed for low res screens)
@RedRiderX I know I once ended up around page 20-something. And found what I needed there.
@Arperum Wow
Good job
That's kind of amazing

Q: Can't sell Imperial items

Michael PI can't sell my surplus imperial items. When I check inventory it just tells me to summon a supply officer to make more

@Yuki that should just be an instant fail, not for the paper just life in general.
Pretty sure that's been posted here before.
@Yuki Oh man that's pretty good
So true
@RedRiderX Route 2 is where dreams go to die.
14:40
@Yuki It makes me think of @Wipqozn for some reason.
@RedRiderX Most people in Pokemon lack the ability to walk more than a few steps a day
If you see someone actually walking you know they're a story character and it's a cutscene
@Arperum It's probably because it's so fancy handsome and handsome.
He doesn't just say it, he calls you. CONSTANTLY. Worst feature ever
14:43
@BenBrocka You could just, I dunno, choose not to record his phone number...
I was HORRIFIED when playing Y that he would register me in some sort of pokephone and call me for the rest of the game
@Yuki He's like the first person you meet, long before you know they do this
@BenBrocka They never call you unless you go back, talk to them, and ask to trade numbers. If you choose not to trade numbers (or delete them, which I think you could do in G/S/C), they won't call you.
I don't think you could delete them, or if you could it wasn't clear how
At the time it's just like "oh boy new feature, of COURSE I'll use it"

Q: What does my ship's distress beacon do?

Jonah BishopOccasionally, I will have a play-through of FTL where my fuel supply runs dangerously low, and resupplies are few and far between. In these cases, I'm occasionally forced to "Wait" while exploring a sector, since I have no fuel to jump to the next way-point. I've noted that my ship comes equippe...

@BenBrocka Same method you use to call them, except you select "DELETE" instead of "CALL", I think.
Also, we should probably move all those Pokemon messages and images to our Pokemon room. It's getting lonely in there.
14:46
Drive out the non pokemon players! Drive them out I say!
I don't play pokemon
Blaah, I'm thinking I should go and buy pokemon
I WILL NEVER PLAY POKEMON
@KevinvanderVelden XY are really great
@kalina Good. You're not allowed.
14:50
kalina goes play Pokemon
@kal why not?
@OrigamiRobot I don't want to join your stupid club of stupid
I played Pokemon Red, was epic, not played since
stupid is infectious
just like I don't want to join your stupid club of stupid mtg
@kal why are you here then?
14:51
@fredley she is against the systematic capture and abuse of her people

Q: Are call of duty clans constrained to consoles?

echadI know you can't play cross-platform, but can people who play CoD Ghost on a PC or Xbox join a clan that is mostly of PS4 and PS3 players? Apparently PS3 and PS4 can, we have 2 players competing with us on the PS3 platform, but how about the rest of consoles?

shuttup meat
MLP > MtG
SHUTTUP BLEM
@kalina You probably wouldn't be able to understand the rules.
14:52
wow
Oh no someone burned @fredley
3
I am unburned, but monochrome
@BenBrocka oh burrrrrrn
If anything I'm less cooked
@BenBrocka STOP MAKING ME WANT TO BUY A 3DS
14:53
@BenBrocka No, that's clearly raw meat. It drops from all monsters.
@Blem-baFett @kalina is a POKEMON? :O QUICK BRING ME ALL THE MASTER BALLS!
You can use it to make meat stacks and whatnot.
@OrigamiRobot this is quite a big statement coming from somebody ■■■ ■■ ■ ■■■■■ ■■■ ■■■ ■■■■■ ■■■■ ■■■■ ■■■■■ ■■■ ■■■■■■■■■ >bzzzzZZZT<
@Arperum buy a 2DS! They're like 2/3rd of the price
@kev kalina is Missingno
2
14:54
information redacted for protection of sanity
@fredley this explains EVERYTHING
@KevinvanderVelden yea, there has been posted multiple pictures of her
@KevinvanderVelden eh, I'd rather buy a refurbed clamshell, I only like the XL myself
@kalina What is this even supposed to be?
14:54
You need to hack your game to invoke/capture kalina
@BenBrocka I'm probably gonna buy a 3DS regular size
@OrigamiRobot behind each of those squares is something insanely personal
I COULD RUIN YOU IF I WAS MORE EVIL THAN I ACTUALLY AM
2
@KevinvanderVelden IIRC you can get Nintendo refurbished ones for like $100
@KevinvanderVelden Not going to happen, if I buy one of these things, it'd be the 3DS.
@kal is this some kind of personality roguelike?
14:55
@kalina Nah, that doesn't bother me.
NO QUESTIONS, MEAT
YOU WILL ADDRESS ME WITH MY POROPR NAME @KAL
God dammit
I HATE MOBILE CHAT
meat
Obviously that statement was not aimed at me
14:56
@fredley What on earth is a POROPR?
Tum te Tum
@arp I'm scared to even think
@OrigamiRobot I'm sorry, I have something called "a life", which is a condition that prevents you from being cast as a magic the gathering player. The two states are mutually exclusive.
@OrigamiRobot o.o I thought I understood MtG
14:58
@OrigamiRobot Fuck that. ~200 pages of rules is way too much for any game.
Every tabletop RPG...
Dnd works because 95% of the time you don't need 95% of the rules
@BenBrocka This.
1 min ago, by kalina
@OrigamiRobot I'm sorry, I have something called "a life", which is a condition that prevents you from being cast as a magic the gathering player. The two states are mutually exclusive.
14:59
@Arperum It's only 199. Not too bad.
Plus only one person has to know them
If you are the person knowing the other 95% of the rules, you can cheat and have your way!
@BenBrocka Most of that document is going into the details of every single keyword that exists in the game. You don't have to know them all.
