@Batophobia I like the name. Reminds me of Manos, is that intended?

@No.7892142 Not sure, it was a Kickstarter project that apparently did pretty well. Looks like fun but their website doesn't do a good job relaying all the information

@Batophobia ah
oh snap it's 4pm

@Wipqozn Somehow I managed to create drama with my one question on the Paranormal A51. I'm so awesome.

Grabbing the bottom of a large object that extends off the end of a slide is the worst thing in Powerpoint
and that's saying something

@Sterno Speaking of which...
> Currently werewolf don't fit within defined scope of the proposal, unless someone claim to be expert on it, then you can raise the new proposal and see how it goes then we can consider to merge this topic as more expects on werewolf (if there are some) will come as right now it's out-of-scope here. Please double-check the proposal description again. – kenorb 16 mins ago
> @Wipqozn There are many scientists who did studies on paranormal with great results and you're not aware how big the studies are. I could name you hundreds of scientists and they studies were so advanced, that they were excluded from scientific circles (as other were afraid of their reputation). Even Einstein started to study consciousness and scientists thought he gone crazy. – kenorb 1 min ago

once I finish my lunch I'm going to reply

@Wipqozn Fun.

Please, list them.

Conspiracy theory. Go!

3:13 PM
You can't say "the studies were too advanced that's why the rest of science says this is literally full of shit", that isn't how science works.

Their studies were too advanced!

@Wipqozn But first you finish eating because you can't eat and laugh loud enough at the same time?

Apparently my normal paranormal question is not a good fit for the proposed site. :(

@Unionhawk Did you see Braben's tweet?

I like that his authoritative reference goes to biomindsuperpowers.com

3:14 PM
The only things that try to withold studies are religions. Not science. Scientists are amazed if they get proof of being wrong.

@OrigamiRobot negative.

Very pleased with #EliteDangerous Wings. I hear the Fed Navy agrees with those lobbying for lower prices of the FdL so…

!!!

> @Wipqozn CIA and US Defence spent $20mln on studies regarding ESP/RV with undeniable results where RV could give exact long/lat of missing planes. Maj. Gen. Ed Thompson said: "if you didn't believe that remote viewing was real, you hadn't done your homework.". Maj. Gen. A. Stubblebine learned his battalion commanders how to bend spoons and other psychic abilities. Those are facts. Modern scientists tried to study e.g. Chi, but they failed serveral times. – kenorb 3 mins ago

@Wipqozn The entire proposal shouldn't exist in the first place

3:15 PM
@MadScientist that's why I don't feel bad about fucking with it

@Wipqozn Facts!

@Unionhawk !!!!!!

It's still going to be high, I expect at least... 50? But that's better than 100.

> According to esoteric/paranormal literature werewolves usually doesn't exist

> In a minor update released before the end of the week we’ll reduce the price of non-trade ships and abolish the way fuel costs are scaled by ship type. What’s more, some of the smaller ships, like the Sidewinder will gain a powerful new advantage as their reduced profile makes them more effective for smuggling. These are minor changes but ones that dramatically increase the importance and viability of craft less suited to trading.

A: Should questions which ask for 'alternative' medical advice be allowed?

DonaudampfschifffreizeitfahrtYes, they should be allowed, as long as you tag it with the doctrine according to which you follow. Medical questions are allowed, for example on Sci-Fi site (you can ask about healing spells in Harry Potter etc). I don't see why it should be other here. So if the example answer to that exampl...

> Medical questions are allowed, for example on Sci-Fi site (you can ask about healing spells in Harry Potter etc). I don't see why it should be other here.

@Wipqozn I just want to be clear about what he wants. Ghosts are on-topic, but vampires and werewolves are off-topic, because the last two aren't real. Right?

3:18 PM
> As with any ongoing development we’re constantly examining balancing and there are some imbalances between the roles. We believe a player shouldn’t feel that they have to indulge in trading to reach the next suitable ship for their preferred way to play, so to make other roles more viable we’ll continue to strengthen the role of combat pilots, miners and explorers in the galaxy, making those paths a more viable option for progression in future updates.

thats some dangerous shit right there

@Carpetsmoker yes, I suppose some people use it as medical advice. And of course, why go to the doctor if the simple spell can do as well? I remember some poll where many Americans have said they believe Lord of The Rings is based on historical facts, or maybe those war Star Wars... — Donaudampfschifffreizeitfahrt 50 mins ago

@Unionhawk goaty

@fredley gtfo

You've misread the example question. The OP was not asking, which crystals would heal him, but what crystals generally have cancer-healing powers. It's not asking for advice, but for facts (or at least, what some people consider facts). — Donaudampfschifffreizeitfahrt 57 mins ago

The Health proposal is pretty close to being launched, missing only 35 users. That one is also going to be really interesting in terms of pseudoscience

@MadScientist Health SE will be the decider
If it works, it could be larger than SO

Here are the facts: chucks a brick at the one who started this proposal THERE

Since 1/20 Google searches is a health query
1/20
It could dwarf SO
certainly in terms of traffic
However, get it wrong, and it's Yahoo! Answers all over again.

@Unionhawk delivers more bricks specially crafted for throwing

I am very, very interested to see how Health.SE goes

3:22 PM
If Paranormal ever gets off the ground, I'm totally running for mod

@fredley But 18/20 are for pr0n.

If paranormal gets off the ground, I'm holding @Sterno personally responsible.

@Sterno I have ghosts in the house, but I'd like better looking ghosts. Any suggestions?

@OrigamiRobot you god damn tease, FD. stop it.

I, for one, will be thankful to know the proper ghost dating etiquette.

@Sterno Ask about Cthulhu and/or Elder Signs.

A star, I think

PEOPLE NEED TO KNOW
@Sterno Get out.

@OrigamiRobot know what?

No, you heathen.

3:26 PM
@Sterno I have the sigils for Mantarok and Chattur'gha as well as a Redgormor and Nethlek rune. Do I have enough here to kludge together a defensive spell for the house?

I guess it's a star with an eye

This is the proper one.

@Sterno You rang?

Man, I used to be able to get $.10 per steam card. Now it's down to $.05

@Sterno I wonder if it could be profitable to mine steam cards with mechanical turk

@OrigamiRobot How is that ever an eye?

@Wipqozn I really think he's trying to troll.

@Frank He proposed the site

@Wipqozn I think the whole proposal is a troll.
I seem to recall something about that user, somewhere else.

3:36 PM
The Men Who Stare at Goats (2004) is a book by Jon Ronson about the U.S. Army's exploration of New Age concepts and the potential military applications of the paranormal. The title refers to attempts to kill goats by staring at them. Research was carried out in part by Jon Ronson, but also by documentary filmmaker John Sergeant. == Content == The book examines connections between military programs and psychological techniques being used for interrogation in the War on Terror. The book traces the evolution of these covert activities over the previous three decades, and analyzes how they persisted...

@Arperum It isn't.

@Frank The user is a conspiracy theorist, if I remember correctly. So I'd guess that the proposal is not a troll

@MadScientist We should just chuck the whole thing into Skeptics, then.

3:37 PM
Seems to fit rather well. He'd just have to cite reliable sources.
Which he can't, so none of the questions would make it.

I saw something strange in my neighborhood. Who do I call? (Someone put this on the proposal questions)

Ghostbusters use 'proton' packs which are portable particle accelerators. The idea is that they use positive charge energy to trap/entangle negatively charged ectoplasmic entities. Would there be need for an electron pack to trap a positively charged ectoplasmic entity?

kenorbNo if there is personal pronoun (e.g. "I") in the question, this indicates question about specific personal medical advice. > No if there is personal pronoun (e.g. "I") in the question, this indicates question about specific personal medical advice.
So "How can I cure my headache with a crystal?" isn't allowed, but "What crystals cure headaches?" are fine?

PEOPLE OF THE US (I mean in particular @LessPop_MoreFizz): If I worked in FL for 3 months, but retained my permanent address as OH, do I still need to file Ohio taxes?
@Wipqozn Are you fucking kidding.
I'm out.

@Unionhawk yep.

@Unionhawk you might need to do both

actually no
i have no idea

is the FL income your only income for the year?

4:13 PM
Florida has no state income tax

Which crystal can be used for the relief of headache? and Which crystals can I use to relieve my headache? are the exact same question, and the removal of "I" doesn't suddenly change whether or not this question is medical advice or off-topic. — Wipqozn 7 secs ago

actually that might be a good question for the money.se

@Unionhawk If you have income from one state and live in another, you file for both. Source: I live in Missouri and have worked in Kansas.

@Unionhawk Yes, you're a resident of Ohio.

Cool, doing it

4:15 PM
I asked that question because I have an idiot friend who believes in that crystal shit

I owe them $0 anyway

He also believes 9/11 was an inside job and vaccines are poison
Oh, and he believes in Chemtrails
and ghosts

@Sterno Send him a referral link.

I used Turbotax, which sorted out the strange parts for me. Kansas has a 'non-resident' form. Since Kansas City sprawls on both the KS and MO side, TAXES HERE ARE IMPOSSIBLE TO FIGURE OUT.

wait... chemtrails are ghosts! mind = blwon

4:16 PM
You also have to file in Florida because Ohio has no reciprocal tax agreement with Florida but since Florida has no income tax then I guess that's a noop.

@Sterno 9/11 Truther and Chemtrails?
The 'controlled demolition' theory was concocted by the government to distract us. '9/11 was an inside job' was an inside job!

.. Question for paranormal.se, do ghosts have to file taxes?

@TimStone Yeah, that's not a thing
@MadMAxJr hahahahahahagtfo

Do I count ghosts as residents in my home for census?

@MadMAxJr Perfect question.

4:17 PM
@MadMAxJr yeah, there is an IRS form B zero zero for that

Unfortunately Delaware has no reciprocal tax agreement with any state, so I have to pay PA and DE. :(

@MadMAxJr Done.

@MattGiltaji I see what you did there

@Yuuki and now i'm out of upvotes on paranormal

@Yuuki I'm pretty sure you can only file them as a dependent if they're under 24 and don't earn enough income to file on their own.

4:18 PM
TIL Canada has a simpler tax system than the US.

I think most places have a simpler tax system than the US.

simpler != simple

US Taxes - Did you wear a hat between 4-23-2014 and 5-1-2014? You are eligible for a $24 hat credit and $500 hat penalty fee.

@JasonBerkan We also pay more in taxes.

I get a K-1 instead of a W-2 which I can only assume exists just for the sake of adding complexity.

4:19 PM
But at least we don't have a death tax.

> @Wipqozn I don't know any who studied werewolfs. I'm fine with werewolf as far there are people who can answer those questions. Btw. 'best kind' is subjective. – kenorb 7 mins ago

@Wipqozn comedy gold

But tax software these days reduce the exercise to a simple matter of essentially filling out a spreadsheet. At least for those of us who are "normally employed" (CRA's words)

I hope the werewolf question doesn't end up citing Werewolf LARPers as sources.

That reminds me that I have to make an appointment with H&R Block next week.

4:21 PM
Taxes here are fun. Federal US taxes. Missouri taxes. Kansas Taxes. KANSAS CITY taxes.
Yes, I have city-level taxes.

> I was referring to the studies and scientists you were referring to when you said "I could name you hundreds of scientists and they studies". Also, the entire purpose of Stack Exchange is to draw in paranormal experts that could answer these answers. We wouldn't forbid all questions about werewolves until a werewolf expert comes along. That....that just doens't make any sense at all. – Wipqozn 0 secs ago edit [delete this comment]

@Frank You do still have to pay taxes after you die. At least for the tax year in which you died.

> My house is haunted, should I list each ghost as a dependent on my taxes?
hahaha oh my god
PRetty sure a troll. Fantastic.

@MBraedley Yes, but Americans have a tax on their entire estate once they pass away.

@Wipqozn Yeah, that one came from here.

4:22 PM
oh, is that @Yuuki?
Yes.

@Frank only if the estate is over a certain dollar limit (5 or 10 million, iirc)

@Frank Yeah, same in Canada. If your estate earns income (through interest or capital gains, for instance) before it is transferred as an inheritance, you have to pay tax on that.

'Which X can be used' is infinitive (state in an abstract), doesn't indicate who is asking, because it's passive general way and 'can' be used, however it doesn't have to be used. You're asking which crystal commonly are used for X as a matter of curiosity, not disease. — kenorb 5 mins ago

@MBraedley That's just regular growth, though.

4:24 PM
I have no idea what he's tryigng to say.

You don't have a tax on giving it away to someone else.

I thought that some chatroom was having fun with the paranormal proposal ;-)

@Carpetsmoker Welcome to the Bridge, where silly proposals are routinely mocked.

@Carpetsmoker Fun? We're asking some serious questions here.

Usually not to this extent, granted.

4:26 PM
@Carpetsmoker We have strange questions normally

@Frank It's not the estate that's being taxed in that instance, it's the recipient of the inheritance. In the end, it amounts to the same thing, but it's a fine detail that needs to be acknowledged.

I could be paying a lot less in taxes if I can count ghosts as dependents.

@MBraedley Well, yes. Because you can't actually tax money or an account as an entity itself.
It has to be the owner that gets taxed.

Oh wow, I'm now tied for second most-upvoted question on that proposal.

@Yuuki Plus, if they are ghosts of children, you can get extra benefits paid to you!

4:28 PM
@Frank You can, however, charge the money for a crime.

@Yuuki is as bad as @Wipqozn

And as a sidenote, Paranormal now has almost twice as many questions as Scale Modelling. This makes me sad.
6
@Yuuki In the States.

Some of the serious replies are funny as well, like "Do aliens drink beer? If so, what's the best sort of bar to meet an alien?" gets the reply of "It depends on the race" ... wtf?

I'm not exactly sure how that works here in Canada.

@JasonBerkan Oh snap, and sicne they're ghosts you don't need to feed them

4:29 PM

I wonder if they're truly oblivious to the mocking, or just choose to ignore it ...

@Frank Yeah, but half the questions on paranormal are trolling questions.

And now I'm tied for most upvoted! Suck it, @Wipqozn!

my buy setup now :3

@Wipqozn you might need a special kind of childcare for ghost children

4:29 PM
@Wipqozn I'm forwarding this information to my accountant.

@Carpetsmoker I'm almost completely certain it's just the one guy that's taking it seriously.

@Wipqozn But with that activity, it may hit the requisite level to get to commitment, trolling or not.

@Yuuki I don't know ... Maybe other people as well. It's difficult to tell sometimes

@Frank If SE actually let's this site enter beta than they don't deserve to have a site anymore.
Although if it does enter beta I'm totally running for mod.
Maybe @Sterno and I can be mods together.

@Frank AFAIK, inheritances are (mostly) tax free. There's some things which might be exempt from that, but by and large, liquid assets are tax free. You can be taxed on capital gains from liquidated assets that are normally non-liquid (automotive being the big thing).

4:30 PM
@Frank hey it worked for lifehacks

why can't you just let the other sites have their fun

Hmm. What beers do aliens like? You know that would affect my approach in X-Com if I could move my soldier, then offer the Sectoid some pale ale.

@Wipqozn I'm telepathically and telekinetically giving you a high give.

@MBraedley Yeah, that's what I'm saying, though. That's the big difference between Canada and the USA.

Maybe the aliens just need a drunken night of driving around and hitting mailboxes with a bat instead of annihilating the populace.

4:31 PM

@Carpetsmoker Don't you guys watch Dr. Who? Werewolves Are aliens :D

American perception of the estate tax is weird.

4:35 PM
@James Not for the last 3 years :-( So I must of missed that

If a ghost possesses me, will that make me more or less likely to be abducted by aliens?

@Yuuki is there a tax which the general american population does understand?

@JasonBerkan That sounds like a SciFi question

@Carpetsmoker The New Dr Who, Season 2

If a werewolf bites me at the time I am possessed by a ghost, does the ghost contract lycanthropy, do I contract lycanthropy, do we both contract lycanthropy, or is there another result?

@MattGiltaji That would be silly. Why would ghosts need money? It's much more likely it was an alien UFO that ran out of fuel and needed money to buy some new fuel.

How difficult is it to find work in the ghost community?
These are starting to sound like questions for White Wolf RPG games.

Is a ghost admissible as a witness in court?

> Yes, because someone needs to answer these questions. More scope we add, it's becoming broader. It's better to succeed with smaller scope at the beginning and see how it works, and then expand. – kenorb 18 mins ago

Of all the things I thought I would do in my life, I never thought I would have a 'serious' discussion about the shampoo choice of a werewolf.

4:51 PM
@Wipqozn What even is the original scope, besides "made up things"?

@Carpetsmoker Welcome to most people here. I don't think they ever thought they'd seriously be trying to discuss paranormal activities.

@murgatroid99 Everything the proposer thinks is real

@Wipqozn That other people don't think is real

@murgatroid99 Yes

Q: Player in the air testfor

DoomdiggerIIi would like to know how to testfor a player that is on the ground. Some people have tried but not succeeded in this usefull command. This could be usefull for double jumps or no fall damage. If this command succeeds, you could have a singleplayer world that has no fall damage by giving the playe...

4:53 PM
@Wipqozn Does that mean that if there really is evidence for something, it becomes off topic?

@Wipqozn How can you legitimately accuse a ghost of a murder you witnessed?

@murgatroid99 Good question!

I'm not sure the reductio ad absurdum is working on Paranormal.

I am laughing so hard, I'm in tears.
This is like christmas.

How would a werewolf get tacos after heavy snowfall without getting its feet and legs wet?

4:54 PM
@MBraedley It's hindered by Poe's Law

@Lazers What is it with people and testfor! IT'S NOT A USEFUL COMMAND

Someone shouuld make backups of that page in case it gets deleted ;-)

The Fossil Fighters Frontier ad seems like it missed the 90s

WHOA

@Unionhawk you forgot "generally". It's useful as a drop-in when asking the question.

4:56 PM
@Carpetsmoker Done

> So, by that reasoning, everything should be off-topic until we get experts on a specific topic? It would also mean that if all of our experts on a specific topic left, that we'd need to close all questions about that topic. Does that mean we'd need to maintain a list of all the experts on the site, and what topic they are an expert in? – Wipqozn 0 secs ago edit [delete this comment]

@Unionhawk I don't see anything

Nothing?
Aw

@Lazers Although in this case the person seems to be focusing on the solution, not the problem.

4:56 PM
I see the text sliding away into fanciness

I see it

@MBraedley Yes, very much so

Maybe it's because I'm on Linux

Is it safe for a ghost to clean a laptop keyboard using scuba gear?

@murgatroid99 i don't think so ;) i use currently debian with chromium and i can see it ;)

4:58 PM
The guy who proposed Paranormal also proposed: Aliens, Metaphysics, People's Opinions

@MattGiltaji I will literally you

If kenorb replied saying that we should maintain a list, then I should make a new discussion question to maintain a list of all the experts currentl i the proposal.

Ghostry or other Blocker installed? behind a firewall or a company network/virus scanner

@Serverfrog IS Ghostry a real ghost?

4:58 PM
@Unionhawk and frame a ghost? @Wipqozn already asked that

@Wipqozn I watched all of Buffy! Can't be more expert than that!
