@fredley they pay more than modern smart cars, less than typical cars, but their emissions are lower than a smart car, so saying it's an 'emissions tax' isn't really correct any more than saying it's a 'road tax' if we're going to be pedantic.
In the US, cyclists are the worst. No, drivers are the worst. No, pedestrians are the worst. Everyone involved in traveling is the worst.
@TZHX No tax is a perfect tax
It's stupid that when you (as a business) sell someone a TV, you're legally obligated to obtain their address and pass it to TV Licensing.
@OrigamiRobot Solution: never move. Ever.
@kalina It's a scare tactic. They can't detect TVs better than a divining rod.
13:02
I agree. I still don't think the TV license is value-for-money or justified when BBC make enough to sell their programs to freaking cinemas.
@fredley shrug
@TZHX let's not even start on the money they make via syndication
also, why do I have to pay for a TV license if I don't watch BBC channels?
@TZHX If the beeb went commercial they'd produce more of the more profitable material and none of the rest. Imagine nothing but Top Gear and Dr Who
@kalina This is debatable.
@fredley I can think of many people who would be quite happy with this dystopian nightmarescape. :(

Q: Buttons don't work on Spyro: Year of the Dragon PSP

PoppamunzWhen I open up Spyro: Year of the Dragon (from PSN) on my PSP 1000, the opening cutscene plays at all, but none of the buttons work (except Home) at the "Press Start" screen. However, on my brother's PSP 3000 (using the exact same data on the exact same Memory Stick) it works fine. I've tried del...

@LessPop_MoreFizz :(
13:05
To be fair, I could do without anything on the BBC.
@fredley not to mention, adverts
@TZHX Even the News?
I like Holby City and Casualty as comedy programs.
@LessPop_MoreFizz who uses their TV for news?
@TZHX They produce some of the best nature documentaries in the World
13:06
They have done.
But they're probably not commercially viable any other way
Still do
David Attenborough will be dead shortly, so it matters not.
@LessPop_MoreFizz PNF
13:06
@TZHX Who said anything about only the tv news going away?
@fredley fixt
@LessPop_MoreFizz I don't find BBC News website particularly good, either.
Far too many typos and grammatical errors for me to take them seriously.
I chopped ml off of html when pasting the link
@LessPop_MoreFizz What is this
Also all the completely wrong information, etc.
@fredley RichPeople.txt
13:08
> For Erela, they created menus based on her favorite foods, like quinoa, chickpeas and dried fruit
oh god
I just pulled out three eye lashes
that can't be good
@kalina Ow
@kalina Now you have to pull out another 3 to maintain symmetry across your face.
@LessPop_MoreFizz ...
@LessPop_MoreFizz She didn't say they were hers.
@fredley how long until all the airlines change their policies on it, though?
> And their nanny, from Wisconsin, does not always know the difference between quinoa and couscous.
Tragic, just tragic.
@TZHX If it's anything like the US a few weeks ago, 48 hours.
Also, she knows the difference sometimes?
@TZHX Article says could be before xmas
@TZHX Pretty sure airlines want this, as it cuts demands on cabin crew pre takeoff and landing, checking everyone's devices are put away
13:17
I guess so.
@LessPop_MoreFizz I did the initialism on that and came up with "FATW". If you just tack on an "A" at the end, that's actually a little disturbing.
@TZHX Also it's a great sales pitch, as the first airline to allow will get much media coverage
Ryanair will add a charge for it, I'm sre.
@fredley this rules change happened in the US a few weeks ago.
Airlines adopted it literally within 48 hours almost across the board.
@LessPop_MoreFizz Hope same happens here
13:20
@LessPop_MoreFizz Yeah, they caught on to the whole "Well we don't want to be assholes" reality surprisingly quickly.
I honestly don't use my electronics all that much during flights, barring extremely long ones, but it is definitely a welcome change.
@Yuki Kindle.
@TZHX And a fee if the flight attendant has to remind you to put it away because you didn't pay the charge to keep it out.
Stay classy, Ryanair.
@fredley I should probably get one of those, but I still have a few books I bought in Great Britain the UK that I need to finish.
@Yuki They are fucking great. I've read so much more since getting one, and I'm on my second now
13:23
@fredley second book? That's not much reading :)
@KevinvanderVelden :-P
@fredley I used to have one when I was a freshman, but my roommate put a bunch of books on top of it and the screen broke.

Q: I am broken: post-undelete bounty issues

FlykRelated: I am broken: post-undelete reputation issues It appears that as a result of the account undeletion process, the bounties that I have handed out and been awarded are not correctly applied against my profile. This is best visible by looking at my Arqade profile which only shows bounty act...

;_;
to make up for awxwr deleting his account and moving me back down to the fourth row, I'm going to see if I can get my bounties back
13:24
@Yuki Get a case. Amazon case has magnets that wake when you open, is v neat.
@fredley Well, I'd have to get another Kindle first.

Q: Does assassin's creed 4 worth buying?

dark_knight Does it worth buying? I play on pc.

@fredley ...
I got -190
@kalina Who was it?
13:25
@Lazers "Does it worth buying?"
(This is MSO)
oh on MSO I got -55
also assuming that awxwr guy
@Lazers Pop it
since it happened at the same time as the -190
when I deleted my account nobody lost any rep
I hate the system
13:26
so inconsistent
@kalina Wait, awxwr quit?
So that's why I lost some rep...
@Lazers really confusing seeing a assassins creed 'question' with the batman logo...
@3ventic 10/10
@RedRiderX yeah he rage quit after getting banned afaik
I got 0
@badp pfff
13:28
and -10 on MSO
IORJWQAPOIURHJWQPOUIRHOIEQUWHROQIWHROIQWUHRWQOIPRUHQWOIUYRHGWQIOPREJWQIOUFGHQWIU‌RHJQWOIURHQWOPRIUHJQWOIUYRHQWOIPEJHQWIUHERWQPEo
@badp lol
that MSO rep, worth 1000x more than Arqade rep
I'm broke, essentially.
@badp You should ragequit over this injustice
you don't need 10 rep on MSO anyway, you're nearly at 20k
@kalina but not quite!
13:29
20k on MSO is best priv
@TimStone That would invalidate a large portion of 1,167 votes
@badp that many votes probably wouldn't be undone
because the system is unfair to its active members
or rather, when we ragequit we don't alert the entire community about it
(I dunno if I count)
I duno, it would have been funny if all of my votes had been undone when I quit
13:32
Although the close reason never did get changed, so who knows
@GraceNote said he'd post some follow up to it and then she never did and then he ignored all my pings about it so I'm not sure where she stands.
@Sterno did I take part in this?/did this get suggested on my faq question?
Gender pronoun switching mid-sentence is hard.
@kalina Maybe and no.
@Sterno a lore question did end up on the FAQ question
so if that isn't the right one you should do something about it
That was whether or not they, as an entire category, were off-topic
right
once I finish working out how to get to this interview I will read yours so I can downvote it
13:34
Frankly as long as the close reason text still exists it seems silly to add this to the FAQ
Excellent.
well close reason text is something that @badp can fix, right??
Heya, folks.
Hey.
@Sterno We should just invent a gender pronoun specifically for @GraceNote and be done with it. I propose "gn".
@TimStone 20k on mso? I'd need a lot of alcohol and some mind bleach to cope

Q: Can i craft saddles and horse armors?

dark_knight Does saddles and horse armors only can be found in dungeons? Or i can craft them.

@kalina Looking through chat, you were involved in this discussion
This was what I'd been looking for
Sep 27 at 12:59, by Grace Note
@Sterno I'll gather a round up next week about it.
> Question
I can't wait for the inevitable Protoss Sex Tantrum.
2
@LessPop_MoreFizz kekekeke
I am so deeply ashamed of myself and what my life has come to that, as I am mere days from turning 30, I find myself using the phrase 'inevitable Protoss Sex Tantrum.'
13:41
...
@LessPop_MoreFizz rule 34
@Sterno mk, well we need the close reason changing then
blame them peoples for not actioning the required action
@kalina I shall!
[sits in the corner and squees quietly over Night of the Doctor]
@BESW shakes fish still in work dammit
fish, fist, they're all the same

Q: Is it possible to give a crew member "admin privileges"?

Dark DecipioMe and my friend are together in a Crew. Now he's for 2 month in holidays and he don't have time to edit our crew stuff. And he also don't know how to allow me, that I can edit the crew stuffs. So it is possible to give other crew member "admin privileges"? When yes, how can he give me this priv...

@LessPop_MoreFizz It appears that no such tantrum will be forthcoming!
@FEichinger yooooooooooooooooooooo.
@badp O_o
@Sterno Sure it will. We have plenty of dumb white knights willing to tantrum on behalf of a perfectly reasonable and non-tantruming OP.
In other news today I learned the Eierschalensollbruchstellenverursacher is a thing that exists
13:53
@LessPop_MoreFizz For the sake of my entertainment, I hope you are correct.
@badp Soft-boiled egg shell cracker
My coworker: "My tea is hot." Me: "Hot tea is delicious!" Coworker: "Yeah, but it melts my ice." ..........<________<
@Fluttershy Did you set him on fire?
@badp That would have melted his ice even more!
For the record, certain blends of tea are especially delicious if drunk hot with ice.
14:06
@BESW this is a thing? :O
I NEED TO WATCH THIS
But alas, also at work
What gets me is that she apparently thought I didn't know hot things melted ice. <_<
I'll just leave that for when you have a chance.
@KevinvanderVelden Have you seen The Brain of Morbius? Fourth Doctor story.
I can describe what happens if you'd like
@BESW squeeeeeee
@BESW squee
14:09
If you know The Brain of Morbius, it's even more awesome.
For a great many spoilery reasons, textual and subtextual.
@FEichinger Oh cool, Team17 is publishing this?
I'm glad they're still going forward with it after the failed kickstarter...

@fredley OMG
Jeremy Clarkson Cyriak
@Lazers WHAT
@Unionhawk Aaaaaaaahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahaha
@Sterno I got out-veto'd. That's why there's been no movement.
@GraceNote I'm unclear on the present status of the issue.
@BESW Yeah this is totally more than I had hoped for.
It's just really great.
14:13
> 1. Close your browser. 2. Turn off your computer. 3. Go outside. 4. ??? 5. Profit! – tombull89
@Sterno Status quo, I believe.
Paul Mcgann was a good doctor.
It legitimizes the Dark Years and holds an olive branch to Old Who.
@GraceNote So, the close reason stands as is despite it being unpopular?
Maybe he should torch his computer too...
14:14
@GnomeSlice Yeh, I remembered you talking about it, so I figured I'd forward that to you.
@FEichinger Thanks!
@tombull89 His parents would be very upset.
Ooo it has a greenlight page now
@5pike true
@BESW It really finishes off Paul McGann as the bridging doctor.
14:16
wow... the bridge really can close question... like fast!
@RedRiderX Ten years late, but he finally got a send-off.

Q: Is there any other game dev games?

dark_knight I played game dev tycoon and game dev story. Is there any other game dev games? For PC and android devices.

I used one of his audio stories --Zagreus--as the bones of a D&D plot once.
@Lazers Is this guy playing close-reason bingo or something?
He was the Doctor for the Dark Years, and I'm glad he got on the little screen again.
14:23
@Lazers HOW EVERYTHING OUT
@Sterno Yes.
@GraceNote Is there any sort of community action that can drive change in this, or is it basically "The mods have spoken, deal with it"?
@Lazers Google suggests he's asking about something called 'jetpack joyride'.
@Sterno You could try talking with the mods.
@BESW I haven't really got into the audio stuff yet, so I don't know the rest of the 8th Doctor's trials, so going from the rather childlike and cherubic Doctor of the movie to the worn-down and almost emotionally empty Doctor here is quite a striking change.
14:25
@GraceNote I am not trying to be difficult, but isn't the meta post exactly the sort of forum for that sort of thing? I don't see any mod answers on that. I don't even know who to argue with.
@Brant Hmm?
At a glance, I don't even see mod comments on it.
@RedRiderX I haven't heard all of it, but I've read about several of the stories.
He went through a Time War, among other things.
That is, a Time War before the Last Great Time War.
@BESW Yeah, I guess there would be...
There were/are/have been/will be apparently several.
14:27
@GraceNote Or, put another way, if that meta topic was not an appropriate way to discuss the issue with mods, what is the appropriate channel?
@BESW Yeah the Time Wars ending always seemed a bit weird...
Or I guess ?
@Sterno You could ask the mods directly (either in that thread or maybe in chat) to actually give explicit comment. Do note that the follow-up discussion on banning lore does contain some measure of mod commentary that I believe also touched upon the matter of the close reason and its usability.
If the War-Doctor really did ___, then wouldn't there be no Skaro or Gallifrey ever?
@GraceNote I'm going to take that as "argue with @badp". :P
14:29
@RedRiderX Here, have an explanation of the end of the LGTW, as much as we know so far.
20
A: Why can't The Doctor save his own planet from destruction?

BESWBecause he can't travel to that part of history anymore. The events which caused the destruction of Gallifrey are known as the Last Great Time War. We don't know many of the details of the War (it happened off-screen between the first adventure of the Eighth Doctor and the revival of the series ...

@Lazers I... actually know what game this person is talking about.
@Yuki yes, the jetpack game whose name I can't remember right?
jetpack joyride! That was it
@KevinvanderVelden Yeah, it's like "Chaingun Jetpack" or something.
Nvm.
@Sterno He ain't alone.
Bacon
14:31
Also that achievement is trivial, hold the fly button (i.e. the entire screen) until the popup appears
@GraceNote Maybe, but if so, I'm not sure how to act on that information. It's not clearly visible to me. Anyway, if any particular lore question closing really pushes my buttons because it got closed because of that close reason text, I'll just argue about it and point to the meta, and hope to win the close/reopen war. :P
I don't think it often comes up as an issue, luckily.
@Sterno The best to be done with that info is to consider that "arguing with badp" isn't in fact arguing with badp but more arguing where badp is spokesperson for the mod team.
@Sterno (This may be kind of a key component here)
Jeah, of top 5 (payed entry) festivals this year, 3 were our customers :D
@GraceNote In fairness, it was regularly an issue in the weeks before that meta, which is why I brought it up in the first place.
It does frustrate me a bit that we can have a big meta discussion specifically about it in which no mods comment or argue with the only positively voted answer, but just quietly veto the whole thing without giving their reason. Note it's not the veto that is really the problem... it's the lack of explanation.
Oh, is today PS4 launch day?
14:36
Even if I disagree on the particular issue, I'm for the mods vetoing something if they think the popularly held opinion is detrimental to the community.
@Sterno Just so long as they tell us and why?
@Yuki That would be awesome, yes. Otherwise discussing things in meta feels kind of pointless if the mods might veto without ever weighing in.
Granted, meta discussions often feel pointless for other reasons as well. :P
"Yes, we realize that a vocal contingent of you want the Ask Question Mothership to fire its lazers at ponies and obliterate them, and you've got 100+ upvotes on your meta about it, but the mod team feels this would hostile and alienate some of the community, so no."
I know that over in scifi.se, a lot of bad feeling toward mods was generated because mods took legitimate crowd-instigated action (like acting on flags) silently and without comment.
An assumption slowly grew that mods acted on their own rather than usually waiting for citizen requests for action, and since the mods' (justified) reaction to such antagonism was to be offended by the attacks on their integrity rather than to recognize the source of the suspicion...
@GnomeSlice No.
...it grew to the point that any action taken by any mod was scrutinized and criticized and attempts to be transparent were seen as closing the barn door after the horse was gone.
14:40
@Sterno It's not so much that the mods veto'd the whole thing as much as my own efforts got smushed.
@GraceNote What were your efforts that were getting smushed?
It's important for me to point out that I'm not entirely clear where you stand on the issue.
Or what action you were trying to take.
To push for changes in the close reason and how we judge on lore questions.
I don't think mods need to broadcast the reason for every action they take--that'd be silly--but regular presence in chat and on important meta topics does wonders for keeping the community aware that the mods are overworked citizens who are doing their best in good faith.
ghjvmb ,khj.kjbjnnnnnnnnnnn
fucking cat
"Accessibility," perhaps, would be a good word.
14:42
@GnomeSlice well, at least it's not NSFW :)
Since absent the current "In the canon", we don't actually have any sort of logical brunt for addressing the validity of lore, something was needed. And status quo won out against my personal push.
@KevinvanderVelden The next time I post a scantily clad lady I'll make sure to blame that on the cat too
@GnomeSlice done, sounds like a plan :)
omfsg gokert off my kbderyboard
As an aside, I'm talking more about Doctor Who and The Night of the Doctor in RPG.SE chat and Arqade than I am in SF&F chat.
14:44
@BESW well that's because arqade chat is just better
@GraceNote Yeah. Ugh. That's part of what really bugged me about the close text. It was sometimes used the justification for closing lore questions people didn't like, because it was the only close reason they had.
@Sterno But we weren't looking at it for that kind of a bludgeon. None of the mods are for closing things out of dislike.
@GraceNote To be fair, I don't think the mods are closing things at all. They tend to stay out of it.
I'm talking about normal users.
But whatever. close/reopen wars in the rare instances they come up can happen. Not a big deal.
At least now I have a meta to point to for my argument instead of making it again every single time
I can’t take further part in this conversation because I’m already late for work, so I’m just going to opinion-dump and leave like a horrible internet person, but: We’re slowly developing a Wikipedia-style bureaucracy and it completely disgusts me.
@GnomeSlice why edit a question and not actually improve it?
14:48
@kalina I improved the tags and the case. It's not going to get reopened anyway.
why not? It's a valid question
You just needed to actually edit it to make sense
@kalina Wow, I'm impressed
reopen vote cast
you should be, that's the only careface you're getting out of me today
@Sterno To be fair, I don't like "in the canon", either. I think it's too damn broad.
@Brant I still don't see sysops ignoring bureaucrats watching administrators and whatnot
14:55
@fbueckert Yeah. I see it, in most cases, as a license to argue.
Personally I've grown to accept that my views on closing and opening are consistently in the minority and simply opt not to take part in the entire rigmarole
(also I'm at work)
But then, I'm of the opinion to burn lore at the stake, period, here. So for the most part, I just skip those questions entirely.
