I did pick the one with the window, yeah, so it is in fact a large box. That said, the other option was a larger headshot so there would've been more yellow in that choice.
As for our untagged questions, we don't really have a good, general use tag for such broad questions. That might be telling in whether or not it continues to belong here.
My housemate and I have been playing a lot of strategy games recently (e.g. Company of Heroes, Empire Earth, TA, Homeworld). I'd like to consider myself to be an okay-bordering-on-good RTS player in that I manage to "not suck" at most of those (at one point I was even ranked reasonably high onli...
@kalina xbox-controller related questions tend to come up a lot related to using them with PC games, since some games support them, some don't, some claim to but don't actually or only support certain models, etc
@BenBrocka Mucus is a kind of slime, so I guess I could say "Depends on the amount of afflictions and/or the season of the year" if I wasn't intending to say "It's not green."
@SevenSidedDie by tagging it untagged you're basically saying "you've got 24 hours to find a suitable tag for this question before an army of close votes rain down hell upon thee"
@fbueckert Going well. Just completed a big fall cleaning. Got rid of a bunch of disused furniture, old electronics (we have an awesome donation place) and rediscovered half the livingroom carpet.
There are these two tags on our site, controllers and peripherals. Both are in need of tag wikis. I don't think we have a site policy on how the tags should be used, and I'm noticing some questions tagged as peripherals while questions with similar topics are tagged as controllers.
For example, ...
Are there any good how-to or technical guides for setting up a LAN and/or any other sundry issues surrounding putting together a LAN party? The greener the intended audience the better. (I am fairly competent around hardware, but my LAN parties have been plagued with all kinds of network errors...
we're going to need some votes on the community consensus meta post soon, it's turning into a 20+ answer question with no votes against any of the suggestions
@OrigamiRobot I'm wondering if it deserves an ac-revelations-multiplayer (too long?) tag. Is the multiplayer mode very different? Is that even a thing we care about? If it is, is it different enough? Anyway, someone else should be looking at that tag.
@SevenSidedDie It is too long. It probably is different enough, but with so few questions, I don't think people are going to care. If someone wants to come up with a better tag, go for it, but in the interest of burning multiplayer, this should be fine for now.
@kalina To be fair, the system also works for pretty much every tech question because there's usually multiple solutions ... Not so much with Arqade where everything is basically forced to have one and only one definitive answer.
I mean, most of Arqade's site policy is purely focused on getting that one and only one answer.
It's like, every month while I was a pro-tem and an actual mod, I was stressing on Meta that "Single definitive answer" is dumb and antithetical to both how the site should work and how the site actually works.
@GraceNote Well, it's one of those things that always irked me with the intense moderation on Arqade. It very much looks like we have indeed reached that point.
Site policy for Arqade consists essentially of "Bomb everything that will not get an answer within X days." and "Bomb everything that could get too many answers in Y days."
@GraceNote thats why I posted all the payday 2 guides, I was hoping that more than just me would post on them and we'd get a couple of different methods of doing things
the diablo 3 questions had a lot of answers per question though
@FEichinger I do say that in seeing some of the questions that got closed from this recent tag purge we have folks going through, I'm not entirely sure I agree that they should have been closed.
@GraceNote I haven't actually watched what is going on with the cleanup, but to be quite frank I do not think Arqade really needs a cleanup. The site is an ridiculously good state (as for answer rate and the like at any rate ....)
@kalina A cleanup is good for sites like AU that are just messy, but Arqade is ridiculously tidy. So much, in fact, that we're having the above conversation: It's too tidy in some respects.
we do still have a lot of old questions that are "officially" off topic though, and those get used by newcomers as justification for why their question is on topic
a lot of those are being uncovered by bumping loads of questions
@FEichinger Hey, rivalries are made to allow for both sides to get better. It's only in the spirit of how much we are superior that the underdog ever can climb and hope to succeed.
The multiplayer tag is not a good tag. Here are some previous resources for some "light" reading before we get started:
Player Two Press Burninate? Should we keep the [Multiplayer] tag?
The Great Arqade Clean-Up of 2012
Should we add more specific tags for ME3 questions?
I'd rather this be di...
AU has few voters, therefore few high-rep users (and few active users), therefore a really low participation in site moderation, therefore holy shit is that a mess.
Man, I had a whole thing to say about "General strategy may be non-specific to a game but we may still have advice to offer" but I lost it in the distraction of Marco.
@fbueckert Depending on who you ask, I'm an ageless witch. So depending on your interpretation, I'm either eternally younger than y'all or eternally older than y'all.
Arqade has a very unusual questions to high-rep users ratio. We get very few questions for a site of this size (traffic), and we have lots of actively moderating users.
I'd still prefer if SE implemented any of the ideas that would avoid the whole frontpage destruction for mass retags, but if the volume is high enough I can see how ruining the frontpage for a short while might be the lesser evil
@kalina No. Let me be clear. The best practice is to avoid destroying the front page. Yes, it can be annoying. Yes, it makes large-scale clean-ups harder. (I still have flashbacks to retagging 1000 [career] questions on ProgSE a handful at a time.) But, you choosing to stop editing because folks ask you to stop flooding the front page is a separate issue.
At first, when you feed your pokemon in Pokemon-Amie, they become hungry again very quickly. I was wondering if, after feeding your pokemon a few puffs do they lose hunger more slowly? Almost like they had a different meter, and their hunger drained into it until it was full, and then would only ...
Note that by "tossed here and there" I mean "Bounced ideas betwixt each other" and not "Thrown into garbage pails that are then hurled into garbage bins that are then flung into garbage barrels that are then hurtled into garbage compactors that are then catapulted into garbage incinerators". The latter is most definitely not happening.
When we are playing with a sniper, the only other gun which we have to defend myself is the sidearm/pistol. But the sidearm is too weak and inaccurate. If I have an enemy close to me who has a rifle/sub-machine gun and try to flank me, the sidearm doesn't help me much. Is there a better defense s...
@AnnaLear I see this as a real issue, on a slower site it is impossible to do larger retags without destroying the frontpage. I've given up mostly on larger retags myself because I was just too annoyed and frustrated about the limitations I encountered every time. It is far easier to do a lot of retags in a short time than to regularly do 5 of them every day for weeks
@FEichinger Let's put it differently. I don't personally care for this trend towards losing what little meta-data we have about questions and xbox-controller looks like a fine tag to me. There's five moderators; surely you can find somebody else who feels differently about this
I've at least two feature requests on MSO that deal with making mass retags possible without disrupting the frontpage, so I'll be a bit unfair and just put the responsibility on SE to do something about the whole issue ;-)
I have kids, which means I have scratched game discs that my systems can't read.
Several months ago, I watched a video demonstrating how to repair scratched game discs using car polish. I tried that, and it didn't work. After a little more research, I found and purchased this plastic polishi...
