@BenBrocka Optical resolution is not the issue. My software equates the two images initially, it require further processing to further distinguish them

@OrigamiRobot I'd expect that to pretty much average out. And he's not asking exactly how many XP he'll get. He's asking how many runs he'd expect it to take.

@ThomasMcDonald Vajazzling? Yes.

Luckily Gaming.SE is democracy in action, and my opinion doesn't matter too much!

@Sterno XP for one run / XP from level X to level Y seems like a reasonable very rough estimate

@Sterno Those two are directly related.

So your assertion would be that 2 characters who start doing baal runs at 80, assuming they do them the same way (solo, head straight to target), are going to have wildly different numbers of runs needed to level?
You might be right... it's been a long time since I played. I just assumed that on average it would be close

@BenBrocka @Sterno How many players are there? How much bonus XP do you get from your Anni? How many minor monsters are there? There are a couple other items that affect XP gain.

@Sterno The experience in finding Baal is that significant?

I have no idea about how diablo's XP/ect crap works so I don't know

Wait you don't even kill anything en route to Baal.
I guess clearing out Baal's chamber can vary...

9:04 PM
@OrigamiRobot Okay, I'm with you now on the grounds that some parameters need to be laid down.

@StrixVaria Passive mob clearing (by, say, just something that clears things between the waypoint and the stairs) can have an impact.

Mainly, how are you defining a "baal run".
I think "it can vary with different numbers of people" isn't a good close reason though

Clearly the only reasonable thing to do would be to do a baal run 30 times and run descriptive statistics on the results

@Sterno See my other variables.

@OrigamiRobot the minor monsters thing is going to average out

9:06 PM
@Sterno Possibly, except for the items bit.

Bonus XP from items is ignorable. or at least can be plopped to the side of the answer, since it's a fixed %.

@Sterno It is not a fixed %

@OrigamiRobot It isn't? I thought it was +x% to experience earned

@Sterno Yes, but that X can vary.

Well, sure, but it's really easy to account for
I mean, if someone asked "How much experience is Baal himself worth?", it's an answerable question, isn't it? There's some base value. You can apply "bonus percentages" to the side of that

9:09 PM
A different item is a flat +10% I think.

Interesting idea... what do you guys think?
From Soundcloud Labs.

I mean, you wouldn't need to say "you could have anywhere from 1% to 100% bonus, so this is completely unanswereable!" you'd just say "Take this number, apply your percentage"

@Sterno That is not what a Baal Run is. Baal himself is a tiny fraction of the XP. Some people skip him when they are just going for XP and not drops.

anyone?

@OrigamiRobot I understand. My point is, +% XP gear is a controlled variable. You can just apply that percentage to an answer. Monsters #s are going to average out.
Actually, while we were arguing, someone posted an answer based on collected data
though I'm not sure it answers the exact question

9:13 PM
<3 <3 <3
Man, Vanish recommends the best music.

@Sterno There is also number of players, how long those players stay in game.

The real variable I think the question had was what counts as a "baal run". Once you define that, though, I believe it's answerable.
@OrigamiRobot ehhhh... sure. But I think you're creating problems for it that aren't really there. Yes, if people are dropping in and out randomly, it'll mess things up. But I think it's safe to assume the question is asking for a normalized case.

@Sterno Players in/out is quite common. What is normalized? 8 players? 4?

@OrigamiRobot It's clear we're not going to convince each other.
:)
Okay, since you edited, "normalized" means "assume they were in the whole run"
His question asks how # of players changes it

Items alone can vary the number by alot

9:19 PM
So close it as 'too vague'.

Yes. And that's simple math that can be applied.

It doesn't even say how many players there are for those numbers.

@OrigamiRobot I like how the "FIRST!" post there came almost two months after the original thread opened.

@GraceNote And how it's the only reply.

@OrigamiRobot That doesn't surprise me, more than someone deciding to find this thing, almost 2 months after the fact, see that no one has said anything, and decides that there's a point to getting the first reply.

9:21 PM
Why is that question so bad?
There is easily a 'typical' amount of XP one gets for a Baal run

4546 runs for level 98? Mother of god

I actually haven't even voted on it, I'm just explaining why it can be problematic.

don't be so overly pedantic, this site is pragmatic.

Your priest died at level 15. You earned 19 glorious fame. :(

Freeware Game Pick: Mari0 (StabYourself) http://bit.ly/yZByMh
@badp happy?

9:23 PM
@NickT When I use a word, it means just what I choose it to mean—neither more nor less.

@GnomeSlice He missed that it's a zero.

@Ullallulloo that is a 0

@OrigamiRobot Oh no, it's Arda Xi Il

@NickT Oh. That really looks like an 'o'...

9:25 PM
I was just playing devil's advocate

@Ullallulloo the font the site uses for tweets has 0, circle in 9 and 6, bottom in 8 be roughly the same. not sure what style that's called, but it's relatively common

@NickT Yeah, but without other numbers it's hard to tell.

user30
@GnomeSlice Looks interesting.

user30
I would rather not use it.

9:29 PM
@ThomasMcDonald 'It'... being the collection of add-ons?

user30
the emailunlock

user30
oh crickey

user30
you have 426 favourites on Soundcloud.

@RonanForman No, a different map. Regular old SMP.
@OrigamiRobot But you're always working.
@Wipqozn Which of those 14 Zelda maps I linked you to I should play, remember?

@John Am not! I work 9 hours M-Th and 4 on F.

9:31 PM
@ThomasMcDonald Sure do. should keep you occupied for a while.
Be warned though, the genre is all over the place. It's mostly electronic, and stuff you'd like, but there's some tracks in there that might seem completely random to you.

@OrigamiRobot Which rules out a lot of time considering that Ronan usually can't play after 5-6ish.

user30
@GnomeSlice Woo electronic.

user30
as a point of comparison

user30
I have 31 favourites.

@OrigamiRobot I'm at work 9 hours M-F. But they give an hour lunch. It hardly compensates.

9:33 PM
There's a lot of really, really good stuff in my favourites list.
As well as some trite, I guess.

@GnomeSlice Of course you would say that.

@Ullallulloo Heheh

@StrixVaria :/

user30
of course, now all my Soundcloud plays stream to facebook

user30
I shall have to consider what I play.

9:34 PM
@ThomasMcDonald What?

@GnomeSlice Because they're your favorites. That's all I meant.

@ThomasMcDonald You should go all the way back to the beginning, there are a few sections where I got into a particular artist or style and added a bunch of that to my favourites, and you might not like everything I've taken an interest in. So just skip the stuff you find boring.

@ThomasMcDonald Ahaha, I think I'd better leave it unconnected.
Or I'll end up spamming the shit out of everyone, everywhere, ever.

user30
mine is connected.

user30
9:36 PM
not sure why

I suppose I should revoke APEXJV's access to my Soundcloud account. It's utterly useless.
It can only see the 50 most recent tracks in your favourites.
I was looking for a not-soundcloud application to play tracks from Soundcloud through, because Soundcloud is buggy and slow.
It's great, but not if you have more than 50 favourites. It can pull stuff from Youtube as well.

@John Because he has a bedtime. That's not my fault. :P

user30
@GnomeSlice I'll have a listen later

@ThomasMcDonald Also, a good way to see what's popular currently is TheCloudPlayer.

user30
9:42 PM
Looks cool.

user30
I used to use the native mac client.

user30
Was pretty decent.

user30
Have you had a listen to Icarus yet?

@John If you want to do an adventure map, I am definitely game.

Also, ahhhhhh mycloudplayers is done!
@ThomasMcDonald Ah... no.

user30
9:43 PM
oh jeez

user30
it's so dark

Yeah... =[
I need to play with it for a while and see if it's actually any good or not.
Nobody makes a good desktop player that can read data from Soundcloud.

user30
looks too confusing for me to work with

Q: Trying to find name of early 90s 4X game

BitrexThe game in question was for MS-DOS. I remember that in this game, life on Earth was destroyed by an asteroid, and only a base on the Moon survives. You construct small spacecraft to colonize the solar system and extract resources, in preparation for building some kind of Ark or terraforming th...

Q: PermissionsBukkit: Is there a replacement for Superpermsbridge for apps that don't support superperms?

Bill KI'm attempting to run a module (mcmmo) with PermissionsBukkit. The problem is, mcmmo doesn't seem to support superperms. For the most part it works, but anything listed by world or in groups isn't seen. There used to be something called Superpermsbridge that was supposed to fix this problem, bu...

@ThomasMcDonald You could try ApexJV, since you don't have that many favourites. It's pretty nice to use, and you can build all sorts of playlists of tracks from your HDD, Soundcloud, and Youtube

user30
9:47 PM
maan, you have spent too long looking for music players ;)

You have no idea.

user30
I spent a while looking for a player like iTunes.

user30
I really like the album view.

user30
but I would like .flac support without having to convert every one

I accidentally made Winyl the default program associated with every file type available, and now can't figure out how to undo that. Winyl is an awesome player if you just want to throw some tunes in and play them (and it has an itunes skin), but when you open a new file with it, it adds it to your current playlist, and you have to remove it manually if you don't want it there.
@ThomasMcDonald Winyl supports .flac.

user30
9:51 PM
> Windows.

I need to figure out how to re-associate WMP as the default software for audio files though, and leave the option to play in Winyl.

user30
Runing on a mac.

@ThomasMcDonald Ah.....
Nuts.

user30
Hence there's a soundcloud native client.

user30
I don't rate it much though.

9:52 PM
Winyl is a little weird, takes some getting used to. You can't just play one track by itself in the player, you can stick it in a playlist and play it.
I love it on my laptop.

user30
And my moral compass is low enough I don't feel bad about just downloading the songs off Soundcloud

Heh.

user30
Anyway, my laptop is about to run out of battery, I shall be back in about 20 if you wish to continue discussing the ins and outs of media players. :)

Hi @Zamual05!

9:54 PM
Winyl also doesn't pull anything from Soundcloud, although it does do Last.FM scrobbling.

Heya @OrigamiRobot! ^_^

@Zamual05 Where/How ya been?

@Zamual05 Haven't seen you around in awhile

@OrigamiRobot I have popped in every now and then, just been at weird times, but I have also been distracted by LotRO and Wakfu. :P

Ah, LOTRO. What class/profession?

user30
9:57 PM
I shall be back now.

user30
As I have had enough of TF2.

F40s don't have rear seats

My main in it is a Minstrel.

@NickT It's just giving it perspective by showing the passenger seat too.
