5:00 PM
@FallenAngelEyes Mine too. :)

@AshleyNunn I try to keep track of this stuff, as it's just important to me. I follow a lot of feminism and LGBT equality-in-gaming blogs and stuff.

user15026
@FallenAngelEyes There are blogs for that? That's very cool.

@GnomeSlice Huh, funky

@araleith is now following you on Twitter?

user15026
5:05 PM
@GnomeSlice That would be me.

I don't know who any of these people ar~ oh. =]

user15026
@GnomeSlice Haha, Araleith is a name I use pretty much everyplace, except SE weirdly enough.

Funny. Grace Note is a name I use exclusively for SE, too

@AshleyNunn Yup! If you're interested, I can send you some links

user15026
@FallenAngelEyes Please do!

Q: Do magic resistance and flame, frost and shock resistance stack?

FabianI enchanted every possible piece of my armor with a magic resistance enchantment, but as that are only two pieces of armor if you don't use a shield I decided to add some elemental resistances on the other armor pieces. So I now have two times magic resistance, some shock resistance from my armo...

Q: Where the heck is this Dwarven Storehouse I keep hearing about in "Eastern Skyrim"

KeplerCan someone please be more specific as to is location? I followed some instructions elsewhere that seemed to lead to this storehouse, and it just led me to Kagrenzel, the dwarven ruin with the light pedestal trap, and a huge fall into water at the bottom. That one didn't seem to have jack for dwa...

Q: How much is the price difference for selling a stolen good vs. not stolen goods?

MorganTileyWhen I was able to sell stolen items to the thieves guild I was told there is some sort of fee (reduced price) on all items I sell. What is the exact value of this? E.g. - Sell a stolen silver necklace to a fence vs. selling a non stolen silver necklace to a shopkeeper.

@AshleyNunn GayGamer.net is a good one. Their sister site Lesbian Gamers is considerably less active though, unfortunately, at least their feed is. GeekFeminism is a little more broad, as it covers more than gaming. Then there's the Borderhouse blog which, while I admire them for initiating the dialogue they do, can sometimes be frustrating to read because they're very reactionary.

Hello all.

Hi @casperOne. You ever figure out that Gravatar?

Take Borderhouse's occasional rage with a grain of salt and I'd advise avoiding the comments, and you should be able to stay sane there.

user15026
@FallenAngelEyes Very cool. I am going to have to check those sites out when I get home and have more time (and a larger screen, I get tired of scrolling XD).

user15026
5:10 PM
@FallenAngelEyes Thanks for the advice, I tend to get very prickly around reactionary-ness, so it is good to have a warning. :P

@GraceNote Still working on it. sigh
@GraceNote I can see the "brush stroke" style from SF4 in it, but I'm trying to think which character image it's from. I'm just going to go through all of them.

@AshleyNunn Yeah, same. While I think it's really important to talk about these things, they don't always take their own advice when it comes to talking about inherent privilege. Just because a cisgendered, white male has a comment to make on something doesn't mean he should be dismissed because there's a history of patriarchy.

Wake is such a great game.

user15026
@FallenAngelEyes Oh, man, I so agree. That's something I am trying to get across to so many people I know, but they dismiss it.

user15026
@GnomeSlice Wake?

5:14 PM
@AshleyNunn People are silly. :|

But if you're going to get it, buy it as part of the Lunar pack on Indievania instead.
It's cheaper, and comes with another game.

@GnomeSlice Oooh, that looks interesting

I think my favorite indie game in the last year is Recettear. kind of an indie action RPG, lots of fun.

@GnomeSlice Hi!

hoping for some more good indie packs at the steam christmas sale.

5:15 PM
The Lunar Pack. Minimum payment $1.
2

@agent86 We have lots of questions about it on the site :D

user15026
@agent86 Recettear is awesome.
2

@RonanForman Oh, hello. Did you get my message about the splash screen?

user15026
I am not very good at it, but it is awesome.

@GraceNote It's currently my favourite indie game.

5:16 PM
@GnomeSlice No.

user15026
@GnomeSlice Thanks for the heads up.

@RonanForman Oh. Well, I've added sound to it, but won't be able to upload it until Thursday, when I'm in school.

@GnomeSlice I have AE now, can you send me the project file?

The Lunar Pack's list price on Gamersgate is $5.49.
@RonanForman Uh... I can try.
Let me see how big it is.

user15026
@FallenAngelEyes That they are.

5:19 PM
@GnomeSlice There was a SNES game with a similar plot, I remember seeing it on Retro Game Master not too long ago.

@RonanForman I also want to make sure I have the render settings all put in place for you before I send it, otherwise you'll probably never get it rendered correctly. Give me a few minutes.

Let me guess - SOS?
Haha! I were right

cringe

@GnomeSlice Would it be best to render it then put it into the main video, or is there a way of importing the project as one thing?

5:22 PM
@GraceNote +1 internetz
I'd link the RGM episode, but I think Kotaku took them down.

@AshleyNunn you must finish Psychonauts, or at least play through the lake monster and France levels.

@ArdaXi If it makes you feel better, I like to pronounce the word "garage" so that it rhymes with "marriage"

@RonanForman Render first, then import into the main video.

user15026
@DavidB If I can manage to play it with the Xbox controller on the PC, I might. It was pretty fun in terms of story. :)

Jesus Christ, the zipped folder is almost 400 mb.

5:24 PM
@GnomeSlice Any particular reason?

@RonanForman What are you doing the main video in?

Probably AE.

ಠ_ಠ
Well, then you'd want to at least pre-compose the entire splash screen as it's own composition.

@AshleyNunn You know that's a PS2 game, right?

@GnomeSlice Why?

5:26 PM
might be easier to work with on PS2 than PC+Xbox Controller

@RonanForman You should acquire Premiere.

Might do.

user15026
@agent86 No, I didn't. :) If I can't get the xbox controller to work, I might try to get it that way. But given my luck at hunting down old games (cough KH) that might not happen XD

@agent86 I thought Psychonauts was released on Xbox back in the day?

When I render out the splash screen, it won't play correctly locally in my media player, but the youtube upload plays fine. :S

5:27 PM
PS2 was its home, last I recall

or did you mean original xbox controller instead of a 360 controller, hmm
@FallenAngelEyes yes, Psychonauts was original xbox

user15026
@DavidB No, I am using a xbox360 wired controller. :)

@FallenAngelEyes I believe it was PS2 first. I at least know it was released on that platform at some point because I have a copy :)

ah, sounds like you're in business then

@agent86 Ah okay, I didn't know that

5:30 PM
@RonanForman Uploading the project files now, it's a 23 mb zipped folder. I had to take out the rendered videos I'd had in it, because those pumped the size up to nearly 400mb.

user15026
@DavidB Awesome! (Not that I don't already have a lot of things to play....but end of term is almost here, so I will have time then. :D)

So you'll need to render it again.

@AshleyNunn Also, for games that are too frantic in terms of gameplay but you're still interested in them, have you considered watching Let's Plays?

@GnomeSlice NP.

user15026
@FallenAngelEyes What are those?

5:30 PM
@RonanForman = P?

@FallenAngelEyes Good call. youtube videos of a person playing through the game.

@AshleyNunn Let's Plays are videos that people put on the internet showing you their playthrough of a game
often with narration about what they're doing and stuff (usually to comedic effect, but not always)

@GnomeSlice Why should I use premier? Surely using 1 program is better?

Q: Can I give up on a den that's being attacked by Templars?

Abby T. MillerI spent too much time with my Templar Awareness meter full and now they're attacking one of my dens. It's way the heck on the other side of the city from where I am, and I'm in the middle of something. I don't feel like running back over to defend the den. What will happen if I don't? Will I lose...

usually with humorous or otherwise interesting commentary. The name comes from the name of the somethingawful forums.

user15026
5:31 PM
@FallenAngelEyes Oh, interesting! So I could watch and get the story, which I like, but not have to get frustrated by the gameplay!

damn, you're one step ahead of me today @FallenAngelEyes

@AshleyNunn Yep :D
@agent86 I type quick ;)

I'll get you! and your little dog too!

@agent86 cackle

so do I, but firefox is currently running mega slow on my VM. I think it's paging something fierce.
maybe I need to go to chrome again, sigh.

user15026
5:32 PM
@FallenAngelEyes This is so awesome. Today I am just learning all the awesome things!

@AshleyNunn welcome to the awesome internet.

@AshleyNunn It started out on the SomethingAwful forums and has branched out to the rest of the internet. If you search youtube or google for a "let's play of [game title here]" you'll likely find quite a few options
also I'm not sure, but you may get more results if you leave off the apostrophe because the internet hates proper grammar, I dunno >_>
though I don't think it matters with google's search engine, tbh

user15026
@FallenAngelEyes Haha, its likely XD

user15026
@agent86 The internet is awesome, and I am discovering that it is more awesome when you aren't going at it alone XD

@AshleyNunn You have any particular games or somesuch that you're interested in, you can try asking here and see if anyone has any recommendations.
We wouldn't really be able to accept those questions on the site due to it being a "list of x" and having subjectivity issues
but here, ask away!

user15026
5:34 PM
@FallenAngelEyes Good idea. :) I will have to give that a think, because I am sure there are a few. :)

@AshleyNunn You took the red pill. You might want to check the back of your head and make sure there's not some crazy jack thing there. On the plus side, if there is, you might learn Kung Fu. Whoa.

So yeah, if you're hard up for time or money or just don't have the oomph or skill to do a perfect playthrough for yourself, do a search, because there's probably already someone out there who has done it and wants your pageviews

user15026
@agent86 pats head Nope, no jack. A pity, I've always wanted to learn KungFu ;)

There's also a sort of branch/cousin to Let's Plays called TAS videos which stands for "Tool-Assisted Speedruns" where people use stuff like save states in emulators and other things to do perfect playthroughs/speedruns of games, if you're interested in that sort of thing.

user15026
@FallenAngelEyes Oh, yeah, @badp was telling me about those the other day. :)

5:38 PM
@AshleyNunn yeah people do some crazy stuff in those

user15026
@FallenAngelEyes Speedruns are baffling. They go by so fast I can barely figure out what is going on. But it amazes me that people take the time to make things like that

I like garden-variety speed runs more than TAS, myself
...but that may just be old habits talking...

user15026
@GraceNote Like without assistance? Just playing really, really quickly?

@AshleyNunn in a TAS, you might use an emulator.

@AshleyNunn More really, really well than really really quickly.

5:39 PM
emulators have cool features that let you cheat a bit

user15026
@GraceNote An important distinction. :)

The goal of the TAS is to show off the literal fastest that a game could be completed. The goal of a normal speedrun is to show off how awesome the actual player is.

@GraceNote That's how I usually pronounce it...
Well, like anything, it depends on who I'm speaking to.

user15026
@GraceNote Oh, that makes sense.

@ArdaXi I'm totally using "The Dutch support my pronunciation!" the next time my brother argues against me then

5:41 PM
@GraceNote ahahaha

@GraceNote Seriously? The Dutch' English pronunciation sucks.

@ArdaXi Facts are irrelevant
3

Of course.

@AshleyNunn I think @badp summed it up as "TAS videos are for fun. The point is fun, not skill."

user15026
@GraceNote Right. You exploit the game for fun, but it doesn't take actual gaming skill - it takes knowing how to use tricks at your disposal.

5:43 PM
Yep

Entertainment certainly is an important factor when the guys at tasvideos.org judge TASes. If an eight frame shorter run is half as fun, they'll want the eight frame longer one

I view TAS's as testing the game's capabilities and speedruns as testing the player's capabilities

@AshleyNunn I'll say that it takes quite a lot of gaming skill to come up with the absolutely perfect play of whatever game

user15026
@badp Oh?

because doing manual speedruns is like a preliminary step
you need to already have a general idea of what is the fastest way to do everything

5:45 PM
But yeah, @Ashley, if you're looking for more story and stuff, I'd recommend LP's over TAS's

and currently TASers are gamers not reverse engineers

Programming a perfect play is very different from performing a perfect play, however. Both depend on the knowledge of how to perform the perfect play, but only the latter requires your best in executing it.
The analytical skill required for the former is still top notch if you want a decent TAS

user15026
@FallenAngelEyes Good to know. I am generally more interested in the story - I like video games that are like a book I can interact with. XD

@RonanForman No, that's the point.

Q: Bug on new profile pages, 'type' is null or not an object in IE8

Doozer BlakeIt appears the new profile pages and the use of jQuery 1.5.2 combined with IE8 are running into this bug which appears to have been fixed in later versions (1.6 and above). The new profile page loads fine, but when clicking on most of the other links on the page, it throws a 'type' is null o...

5:47 PM
@RonanForman Here are the files.

user15026
Alright, I am off to Russian class and then to work. Thanks for all the awesome information and stuff, guys! You all rock. :)

@AshleyNunn We know.

Enjoy, @Ashley!

Have fun

user15026
@Wipqozn Oh, you're modest, too, I see ;)

5:48 PM
@GnomeSlice Can you give a mask a parent?

@RonanForman Not really sure how a 'parent' would apply to a mask.

I'm trying to get an object to reveal as another moves over the top of it.

Oh, you mean have the mask move with another image?

Yeah

Erm... pretty sure you can.

5:50 PM
@AshleyNunn Later!

Have you gone through the 'basic training' on videocopilot.net yet?

Yeah.
Also I don't have some of the effects you used.

Which?

CC ball.

But... that's a built in one...
Which version of AE did you 'acquire'?

5:52 PM
CS5.5

"We detected that your computer does not meet the system performance requirements for MapsGL. Learn more about the system requirements for MapsGL."
bullshit. It was "up to par" just a week ago.

@GnomeSlice Do you have skype?

@RonanForman ...Then how can you not have that? I think I have
Anyway, lunch time. CS5.5 should have everything I have in CS5...

Also what's with the sounds?

Q: Are there any unlock spells in Skyrim?

PeteI have played Skyrim for some time as a magic user, and I have by no means visited the entire world yet. But I'm puzzled that none of the characters I have met that sell spells have any spell to unlock locks. Is there no such spell, or have I just not found it yet?

5:57 PM
@GnomeSlice Do you mind if I clean up the base image?

@Lazers NPE! \o/

@RonanForman 'clean up'?

NPE is our favorite exception where I work.
