@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 Didn't you know - Jon is like a good Agent Smith. He is everywhere in the matrix
3

@RoryAlsop - Of that I have no doubt.
Also, didn't you know, Agent Smith was actually the hero of those movies.
At least according to the Warchoski (sp) brothers ... er ... siblings.
I guess they'd know, he?

yep - plus - Australians are cool
(not that I'm half Aussie or anything...)

@RoryAlsop - Well, many of them are ...
I'd love to visit.
My employer actually has positions in Australia ... would love to go down for a three year stint.
Only thing I wouldn't like is I couldn't bring my vehicles with me.

I tried with a couple of my employers that have offices in every country - but each time there was always the "oh, we haven't got someone to replace you" excuse

@RoryAlsop He IS Agent Smith. Never realized. Now I'm a little intimidated by HIS powers.

11:03 PM
@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 Holdens are fun, though - I drove some great ones when I did work out there (between school and Uni)

Gotta love GM vehicles ;-)

Who owns Holden? I thought Chevy did...is that correct?

Yes, the General does

@DucatiKiller When did they buy 'em. I was there in '88-'89

@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 Watch V8 supercars. Great series from the Aussies.
@RoryAlsop @Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 just indicated that they are indeed GM vehicles
@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 What year did GM buy Holden?
@JonEricson Is there an actual goal regarding mid level users and reputation. It seems we meet all of the other metrics regarding QPD, flagging spam, editing...
@JonEricson What are the other metrics?

11:07 PM
@DucatiKiller being cool and groovy
sporting a dashing hairstyle
(probably past my bedtime...)

Oh, you wanna see a great movie about Aussie car guys, watch Love The Beast ...
Starring Eric Bana

@RoryAlsop Ahhh yes...I look at my 80's pic's and they are cringeworthy...

As himself ... it's a documentary.

@DucatiKiller Honestly, if we could be sure an election would work, you'd have graduated already. This site is sorta an edge case. :-/

@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 I heard about it but haven't seen it yet. I need to

11:08 PM
Oh, gee, thanks ... :D
@RoryAlsop - I really enjoyed it.

@JonEricson Ahhh - that's interesting
So we really do need to get those more occasional folks to be more active

@JonEricson So, maybe double the mid level, a 25% increase. Just speaking in rough terms of course, when you see the stats what do you say to yourself? If mechanics only had a little more <insert attribute here> we could graduate them....

The story behind the car, him going back to be with his childhood friends to build the car, then racing the car in an event which he'd dreamt about his whole life. It really was great.
@JonEricson - While you're here, could I bother you to please put the tag on this Meta post? meta.mechanics.stackexchange.com/questions/1577/…

@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 That movie @RoryAlsop recommended is friggin great.

which one is that?

11:15 PM
Must see for car geeks IMO

@DucatiKiller what did I recommend?

Wasn't that you @RoryAlsop

Paulster recommended that

IDK, I saw it flash by
lmao

I haven't seen it

11:15 PM
Great movie
<but I already said that>

I had 4 people talking around me at once and as soon as they walked away.....lol
sorry bout that
Once again, self humiliation.
Keep me humble

@DucatiKiller - You just wanna slap them, dont' yah!

Nah, they need stuff.

@DucatiKiller - Look for the FedEx truck ... dude will be delivering the whipping branch so you can beat yourself.

I like helping....and calming guys down during crisis
If I have a young guy freaking out in front of me about how 5 racks just lost power. I like to sit there and listen to him freak out.

11:18 PM
@DucatiKiller lol - the calm voice of reason and wisdom, eh
2

yeah, freaking out does nothing to get power back. Once they learn that then can work and get in the zone when everything is failing.

@DucatiKiller I just looked at the stats. I think you are very close now. Next time we review the site for graduation, it's pretty likely we'll take a risk on running an election.

then they graduate to the next level and provide calm positive energy to team mates as well and be a good example. Act like a veteran to become a veteran
@JonEricson When is the next review scheduled roughly?

@DucatiKiller - Usually under crisis, especially if it's in my lane, the problem usually gets me into the zone ... it's a wild experience.
@DucatiKiller Great advice.

@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 Done. (Might push one of the other posts off the bulletin board though.)

11:20 PM
@JonEricson AND, thank you for taking the time with huge litany of questions everytime you jump in here.

@DucatiKiller It's my own fault for reading your minds. ;-)

@JonEricson - Thank you. I believe what Zaid is trying to do with this question is beyond spot on ... if there is such a place, lol. I think it's an absolutely great question and answer, especially for keeping people here.

@DucatiKiller Soon. Maybe this month?

@JonEricson - Oh, don't tease us like that, lol!

@JonEricson The metrics that you looked at that made you feel confident, what are they?

11:22 PM
@DucatiKiller - Down boy!
Let him rest! LOL!

@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 It's in his melon now, he just needs to jam it through the keyboard.

@DucatiKiller - ROFL!!! You're awesome brother.

@DucatiKiller Basically the ratio of users at key reputation levels. It's still a stretch but much closer.

@JonEricson so, continuing to build the mid level users?

@JonEricson - We continue to work it. Ducati and Zaid have been doing great things lately. I pale in comparison.

11:24 PM
Yep. :-)

Thanks Jon. We appreciate the vote of confidence.

@JonEricson everyone in this chat has really been reaching out to them and encouraging them with comments and what not so that seems very organic at this point. I suppose the community continuing to do what it does seems to be the order of business. That's good.
@JonEricson would that statement above seem reasonable?
@JonEricson OR do see any kind of intervention or activity that we ARE NOT doing that should be getting done?

@DucatiKiller The key is getting enough people nominate themselves and enough people vote to make the election. My nightmare is an election where there are 4 candidates and ~20 voters.
Well, my concern. ;-)

@JonEricson - Deservedly so, especially if you are the one calling the shot. Then you have to tell your boss, "Eh ... sorry ... I thought we'd have enough."

@JonEricson Yes, that makes sense. I can see how that would not be a good situation and how it could unfold. That's good news though and thoughtful commentary. I would nominate @Zaid @Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 @BobCross and @RoryAlsop right now if we did it.
I think we have the mods, we just need to ensure we have engaged voters.

11:30 PM
The problem is, the system is basically self nomination. You don't nominate someone else.

Ahhhhh....well. As we've discussed. I wouldn't nominate myself. I don't know anything and Im unreliable.

Yes, you suck.

I only bring encouragement to the table, I would hope all of you would nominate yourselves. You all have the skills and the knowledge.
@JonEricson Very kind of you to cater to all of my questions. Obviously I'm emotionally invested. I will say I really like the way you answer my numbers questions without answering the question directly. It's a great skill and I'm not being sarcastic. when you tell me something it always feels substantial. So, thanks again.

@DucatiKiller - You sell yourself way too short.

@DucatiKiller I appreciate the compliment.

11:35 PM
@JonEricson You have next level comms. Definitely a skill.
@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 well, that's nice to hear. You must be elated. You've invested more characters into this site than any individual or even @Zaid and I put together.
You carried this baby in most ways homie. This is a huge validation of your efforts IMO.

@DucatiKiller - Yes, some would call the diarrhea of the mouth ... if I were speaking. I wonder what the keyboard equivalent is?
@DucatiKiller - Thank you kind sir.

Whattever it is, I give you kudo's. You invested a lot of calories into this and frankly I don't think the site would have made it if it weren't for you. That's sincere. So thanks for keeping it alive long enough for me to come along and experience it. I mean that.

11:51 PM
@DucatiKiller - Thanks. It is great to see all of the effort bring it to where it's at. Now we just need to get it over the hump and I'll truly feel like I've helped accomplish something.

I think it's almost on auto pilot. Sure, there are key figures and all that but the community is pretty damn good to the users and friendly. It's attracting users that are sticking. If the community continues to do what it does things should just go along the path.
I spent some time in February experimenting with an idea
maybe a little jan too.

And you didn't include me?

I went back to old questions of users that had been dormant but had 500+ rep. They also had to be active on other sites in the SE network. I would goto their old questions and vote on the top three or four accepted answers.

I don't know if I like you any more.
@DucatiKiller Nice.

What I found was that about a third of those type of users that I would do that to.....would come back and do something. Comment. Answer a question, ask a question.
of those about half would start visiting regularly.

11:55 PM
See, that's why we keep you around. You keep coming with awesome ideas.

I tracked it in a notebook. Not normalized data or anything but I would check those users activity daily
It was an effective method to pull back users that may have been driven away or lost interest for whatever reason. I do it today about once a week, I just don't track it anymore.

You should have clued me ... I would have helped. I guess it doesn't mean we cannot keep on doing this and see how it all works out. What it really came down to, though, was voting. Just strategic voting. I like it.

yes,
it was going back to old questions with great answers and voting on them.

gotcha
Favor time, Mr. Ducati

AS WELL....it's an SEO thing. Page change. Activity on pages. the vote number goes from a 3 to a 4 and the google bot notes that as change

11:58 PM
I'm at 190

so more pages in the site with change, higher SEO ranking
gotcha homie

there you go

and another for good measure

@DucatiKiller - Jonathan beat you to the punch, but thank you.
