@StephenKitt there was a Late Answer that might have been meant for your answer there. Is there value in it?
@JeffSchaller thanks, I’ve fixed my answer to suit.
The late answer is now obsolete ;-).
@StephenKitt thank you, sir!

A: Add code search syntax to search tips

kristinalustigWe've finally added the code:"x" syntax into the search tips on /search! It only took us... checking my notes here ...8 years. Oof. Sorry about that. Thanks for the request, we really appreciate it.

well, that's nice to know :D
@αғsнιη I had no idea about either kind of search -- thanks!
Oh. I misread-- there's only one new kind; it's just the help page that was updated :)

@JeffSchaller I was also misread at first :D
but I too didn't know we can search by code
I was trying with "body" keyword that I knew but never succeed with that
16:45
I had no idea we could search for code only...
I'm sure something like this doesn't need more publicity :P
OK, I get it. Anyone else planning to misunderstand that? :D
:)
Apparently, it's been around for years!
FWIW, you can search code blocks by using code:"SELECT!", but that doesn't work with post bodies and titles. — a cat May 15 '12 at 12:36
I also thought that announcement was for the new search, but it is just announcing that the feature is now listed in the search help.
this is annoying because I have read the search tips multiple times so I could have easily known about this, had they told us sooner
17:35
hmmh, how well does that work, I wonder. I mean, code:">>" (unix.stackexchange.com/…) doesn't seem to find e.g. this: unix.stackexchange.com/questions/159513/…
@ilkkachu no space after the :
Aaaand, you don't have any space there. Hmmmm.
Ah, maybe it only searches answers
But then it should find the answer... Bug, I guess.
At least, I tried code:"$@" and that seemed to work.
it's funny, because the example of code:"-->" also doesn't exactly work on SO (I was expecting to find What is the “-->” operator in C/C++?)

Well, it's just as good as regular SO search
18:54
Whohooo! I reached 400k SE-wide rep! Now it's official: I need to get a life!

i er why am i being asked by stack exchange to agree to a new cookie policy?
@terdon well people like you that contribute to that extent ought to be given shares in the company or be on their payroll to some extent i have spoken about this subject on numerous occasions and make no secret of the belief that the way it is kind of sucks, hence you feeling despondent about your contribution having 0 effect on your individual life
but it has not been well received or just ignored mostly. everyone cottoned on quite quickly that i enjoy negative attention and now chose to not enable me by providing it. this is why it was so hard giving up facebook. i could always find someone that would get angry enough to send me death threats. i have needs is it too much to ask?
23:55
@AdamL Because without the user's consent they can't store snooping cookies in your computer, thus the advertisers make less money, thus Stack makes less money.
@AdamL The deal is that (1) we help people solving their problems and thus (2) learn from answering and from peer review. In exchange, Stack monetizes what we write.
