@user apparently you're a stakeholder in 100% of web apps

2:07 AM
man, its surprisingly difficult to make desmos error based on different inputs of a function, been trying to find suitable builtins for codegolf.stackexchange.com/questions/229052/ihateoddnumbers, only been able to find random(n) useful so far (throws an error if n is negative), most other strategies ive tried simply return undefined instead, no actual error :|

actually a bit surprised desmos has errors considering how much just goes undefined lol
aside from malformed expressions

@UnrelatedString lol yeah, spent forever going through all the different builtins to find that random surprisingly works. i have a new idea of using "Cannot access coordinates of a number" error, if i manage to use it, it would prob save a few bytes over random()
problem is piecewise cant branch to point and number

ooh
hmm
don't suppose there's any chance you could, like, iterate .x on something

2:24 AM
@UnrelatedString huh wait .x.x actually works

oh wait yeah you can just do that straight up if it's already a piecewise branching thing lmao
well there we have it

I'm going to have to learn desmos at some point, all I can do with it is graph things and find definite integrals lol
I discovered how to use lists today

i already forgot everything from the lyal

@UnrelatedString oh :(

2:37 AM
well tbh i didnt really teach for that long during the lyal
i basically just went through the real basic stuff
hmm i cant seem to get the .x.x idea to work for some reason
@RadvylfPrograms well im 99% sure desmos will be next months lotm, so theres that :D
unless j-uby gets a couple more upvotes

3:12 AM
i really wish desmos had short circuiting evaluation
would make this a lot easier ngl

3:25 AM
huh, apparently <b>a <i>b</b> c</i> (**a _b** c_) is valid HTML and behaves the same way as <b>a <i>b</i></b><i> c</i> (**a _b_**_ c_)
this is... annoying cuz node-html-parser doesn't actually handle this correctly and does <b>a <i>b c</i></b> instead (**a _b c_**)

3:43 AM
uh i may be mistaken but isnt there supposed to be a lyal today or no
or maybe still deciding which lang?

yes, there was supposed to be one starting a few hours ago

ok, thats what i thought
its between flobnar and bit cycle it looks like?

looks like flobnar and bitcycle are tied for highest unused
yeah.

hmm... both seem like interesting 2d langs, gonna be hard to choose i think
huh i just realized this was a thing: esolangs.org/wiki/Among_Us, ppl can make esolangs out of literally anything it seems like

that's the idea
the hard part is making them interesting

3:52 AM
it's trivial to roughly fit any broad theme into an esolang if you just map to brainfuck and maybe add some other things

4:34 AM
cant believe ppl still posting this kind of stuff lol

i'm not entirely convinced it's not a troll
but i'm not convinced it's not
*it is

"noahs super ark", ok what???
"government has been lying to us since day 1, 0 BC"

actually no from the tags it has to be a troll

this guy is saying that god is a ball of light (the sun?) lmaoooooooo
"All I ask is that my name: Jacquevious Tart III be added as coauthor (or author if you are generous enough) to the paper."
dude that cannot be a real name, wtf
damn it got deleted hella fast

Q: Is this expression Python 2/3 safe?

SisyphusGiven an expression like 4 / 2 + 3, determine whether the expression has the same value in Python 2 and Python 3. Recall that in Python 2 division rounds down (so that 5 / 2 -> 2), whereas in Python 3 division returns a float (so that 5 / 2 -> 2.5). For simplicity's sake, we will only consider ex...

@NewPosts nevermind this is too simple

@Sisyphus man, i was gonna try to do it in desmos, definitely not simple there
rip

Actually shouldn't be
I've added a 5 / 2 * 2 which fails the 'simple' algo (eval%1 == 0)
@AidenChow back up :P

so you do have to actually check if the divisor evenly divides the dividend

Yes, that's what I'd like to force
And 4 / 4 / 4 is also a nasty case I think

5:21 AM
because you actually have to check two divisions
as well as actually evaluate a quotient
versus just checking divisibility

just posted an answer, idk if its right tho :P
ok bruh what is that eval wizardry, unrelated string

you know how you're checking the equality of two evaluated python expressions, in python

5:37 AM
yeah...
ah ok i see how it works now after the syntax highlighting
smart

lol thanks

1 hour later…
6:56 AM
Aight which one of you nerds italicised the bench?
Can't go 5 minutes around here without kids wrapping seats in <em> smh

7:47 AM
hooooly crap, i finally got a draft of a working (i think, at least) answer for the python 2/3 expression challenge

in desmos? nice

@UnrelatedString yeah
its pretty much as long as i expected it to be

hmm wait i found a golf
actually its shorter than i initially expected after the golf lol
i was thinking around 150 bytes, the program is 122 bytes
welp at least its not too far off from the haskell answer, yay
wait just found another golf, down to 113 now
at least its not last place anymore :P

1 hour later…
9:34 AM
what is today's lyal?

@PyGamer0 i have no idea
but its between bitcycle and flobnar, both at +7 score
i think dlosc has some experience in bitcycle, we can do that if dlosc is available
or joking
also im less than 100 rep from 3k, i can nearly taste it :P

1 hour later…

just came back to say that

12:30 PM
hi all

hi

1:06 PM
@JoKing looks like no-one else could either, ha. at least i didn't get to miss two langs i was looking forward too
i didn't know chat made the ping noise when you replied to yourself

it does
you're only finding this out now?
2

sometimes I feel like a monkey pounding on the sides of the giant pile of machinery that is HTML/CSS/JS

i'm sure i've noticed before, maybe i'm rediscovering it. at the very least, you're not really meant to reply to yourself, so not that surprising

tell that to my fridge each morning
it lets me simulate replying to myself all the time

there's a bunch of lore there

1:09 PM
@lyxal oh, i thought you were talking about pounding on it like a monkey

sure that happens too

nah, I was talking about how it somehow has janky SE chat integration

I love how some subtle bug that I can't seem to find is causing my code to fail silently
CMQ: What are yall's thoughts on my proposed BMG-bot? I want to make sure it's not a stupid idea before I go to the trouble of making a meta post
Basically, during BMG a bot (maybe GingerBot, maybe some other one) would every 30 minutes search TNB for old CMCs and repost them
it would only do this if there was activity in the room and nobody else had posted a CMC in the last 15 minutes or so

I'd also like to find a less... janky bot framework to write it in
preferably in Python

1:20 PM
Bold of you to assume that BMGs aren't dead

This bot would help keep them alive
that's why I suggested it, in part
I need more datapoints
onioni?

I could generate a bunch for you

not what I meant
I need more people's feedback on this proposal

there'd have to be a new spark of interest in BMG

*pulls out flint and steel*

1:25 PM
it's been several months since a BMG was properly hosted
I don't know if it's worth the trouble making a bot for an event that just doesn't have enough momentum anymore

give it more momentum
I still have this nuke, I hear those are great at momentum

reviving it would take more than just a bot

well?

it would have to be run less frequently for a start - too much of a good thing spoiled it

1:27 PM
good job gamer

the timing on Radvylf's arrival

Well I guess they figured things out, time to send an AbortSignal to my principal

the exact second you said it would take more then a bot Radvylf logs on

ikr

Radvylf, what's your opinion?

1:28 PM
@RadvylfPrograms Actually never mind, seems my principal actually got involved. That was surprisingly quick.
@Ginger I don't really think it's necessary

oop, brb

One nice thing about BMG is that we can adjust the pace according to how many people are doing it, and how fast they're doing problems

and also, it's not the posting of CMCs that make for successful BMGs
it's the solutions to the CMCs

We can make a bot for those too

glhf getting it to answer sanely

1:32 PM
We can make a bot to moderate it and make sure it doesn't start smapping bad answers
> smapping
Memes in 2025 be like

I... don't even know what it was you intended to say by smapping
one would think it'd be posting

"spamming" lol

ah
@RadvylfPrograms fair enough
that could actually feasibly work given the right prompts
but glhf getting it to actually golf its answers
I've tried and tried to get codex to golf stuff
it never does do
@RadvylfPrograms a GHS NHS inductee? Does that make you a HS(G + N) inductee?

GN(HS)₂

looking at that I have no clue what it means

1:39 PM
It's a chemical formula :p

and I've only just realised that unlike comments, chat messages don't have a 15 char min

I got really confused as to how chat allowed you to send it until I remembered that I was being a dumbass
3
gosh fricking dang it
ofc you gonna mock me with that 1 char post

12 mins ago, by lyxal
ikr
this you? :p

shuddup I got my forms of SE interaction mixed up for a moment :p

1:47 PM
I'm so worried I'm going to run out of time for this presentation. I have 8 minutes, and 16 slides.
And it's a topic I'm comfortable enough with that I can talk about it instead of just reciting memorized words

total or remaining?

8 minutes to make 16 slides or 8 minutes to present 16 slides?

Total
@lyxal Second one

well if you can talk about it then you can just use TTS
wide brain

You try presenting about the various effects of capitalism on individuals and how worker co-ops are a possible solution (but with limitations!) in 8 minutes >:|

1:48 PM
wait run out of time?

tf kinda content you got on those slides?
that's like a whole fricking essay

Well not much, they're basically just the background for me talking

a fricking TED talk

a RED talk

1:49 PM
thain't a presentation that's a fricking address to the UN

Welcome to AP Seminar

Well if you've got too much content, just use Jelly to compress it
and present the compressed strings
ez

This is a funny video I found last night:

gotta learn to speak in base-256

One of the comments is like, "you don't pass AP Seminar, you survive it" and that's true
But gtg

@Romanp you mean you don't gzip-compress everything you say?

Q: Convert To Shorthand Part 2

SaphereyePart 1 of the challenge revolved around converting the letters into specific unicode characters. You may or may not use your same code from Part 1 for conversion. In any case, all code written for this Part must be in the same file, whose length will be considered for evaluation. Part 1 was inten...

Finished presentation, I think I did well

@Adám yep i stole i.

I wrote this about it for my business class:
My favorite bits are

> It's unclear whether this is a joke, or a serious proposition, as the two are often of identical commercial viability in Musk's case.

What is that for

ask GingerBot, not me

random letter spam is the definiton of uninteresting

4:00 PM

4:28 PM
@Ginger Today in yesterday's news?

lol someone just upvoted like 10 of my answers, tf
i mean ill take it, im at 3k rep now :D

you might get "-100 serial voting reversed" though

that would be sad

5:04 PM
you can now vote to close other people's spam challenges

5:21 PM
For April Fools' Day, SO should make it so you can VTC peoples' profiles

5:32 PM
so i guess yesterdays LYAL just basically didnt happen?

5:50 PM
seems like it

5 hours later…
11:17 PM
i vote for bitcycle for this times lyal if we are even doing it

idk lyal is kind of dead ig

@Steffan the last two lyals had lots of participation tho, i dont think its dead necessarily

11:43 PM
@RadvylfPrograms with dance dance authentication to prevent random people from coming in

@AidenChow well if it does happen whoever did all that upvoting will just have to vote again
