It is useful, it gets hyper to sleep.

y'all using hypothetical chat commands while I'm over here using a userscript that actually gives chat commands
admittedly, I don't know what half the commands do, because the UI is rather broken
Meanwhile, your cop's been half cracked.

Microwaved bread sounds like a good idea in theory until you realise that it actually doesn't taste as nice as you'd thought, and that it gets too hot to touch
Just expose it to the fallout from the fridge, it’s like microwaving but better.

just toast it??

This is unrelated, but some times when I get milk out of the fridge, it bounces against the racks in the fridge and makes a noise that sounds like the SE chat notification noise
thats amazing
thank u for letting me in on your amazing fridge sound
i was gonna say "it rlly is a distinctive sound" but its literally not, apparently your fridge also makes that noise
also hey while i can grab you two–

That's a recording of my fridge making the ping noise
Just in case you had any doubts :p
@lyxal thank u
@lyxal ooo :D click
oh my god it does
so what does that mean for ur day to day
do u check the chat every time u get milk
or do you check the fridge every time u get pinged
No, it means that sometimes I find my fridge completely destroyed

A: Sandbox for Proposed Challenges

DingusIs it a prefix normal word? code-golfstringdecision-problem Prefix normal words arise in the context of binary jumbled pattern matching. A binary word \$w\$ consisting of \$0\$s and \$1\$s is said to be prefix normal * if, among all of its substrings, none contains more \$1\$s than the prefix of ...

question: does it matter which substring? in your example the substring comes right after the prefix, so i just want to confirm that that's not a requirement
and can they overlap?

(a) Source Code
(b) Program Code
(c) Binary code
(d) None of the above
Ah yes Program Code
04:39
Is the intended answer c? Because I'm tempted to choose d for at least 10 reasons
idk
and i submitted
@Bubbler what are the 10 reasons ??
i think the question is wrong
Funny thing in my textbook: Now type the above coding.
i will just go play minecraft :/
1) we call them machine code
2) or an executable
3) at least `file a.out` doesn't mention the word "binary"
4) everything is technically in binary, so binary code is too broad
5) there are nonbinary computers after all
6) every file is stored in the unit of bytes, so we need to call them 256-ary instead of binary
7) some machines store and run in 10-bit units instead, lol
8) tests are stupid
10) actually the 10 was in base 9
05:04
Protip: use 10 for everything so that you can claim "I was using base X" when something goes wrong
@pVCaecidiosporeadduced (every base is base 10 due to how bases work, once you count to the base number, that number will be 10)
in base ten, ten is 10, in base two, two is 10, etc
[this is by definition iirc]
06:06
oh x base x is 10?
by definition
or more precisely, 10 interpreted as base x gives x by definition
being one times the first power of x plus zero times the zeroth power of x

which article? the one you linked or the one linked in the one you linked
@emanresuA Well, I think I just figured out how I'm writing the explanation for my next crack. :P
@AaroneousMiller I am not responsible for Flipbit-related anger :P
@AaroneousMiller What does :p do in vim?
18:54
@emanresuA prints lines to STDOUT
is that case sensitive?
:p i mean
Oof. In vyxal it concatenates to itself.
@cairdcoinheringaahing What does :p do in Jelly?
@thejonymyster From the Vim docs:
> Just as ":print". Was apparently added to Vi for people that keep the shift key pressed too long...
18:57
@cairdcoinheringaahing flipbit for the most part is pretty simple and therefore it works pretty well. most of my flipbit-related strife is from ?, with a bit of , sprinkled in for good measure
but mostly ?
I really love this lyxal's fridge user script
Pings have never sounded better
@emanresuA Dyadic or monadic?
@emanresuA I just realized--I don't think : does anything in Brachylog. I can't find it anywhere on the wiki. So :p always errors, I believe.
imagine erroring on an unknown command smh /s
Imagine having unknown commands :P
19:08
imagine having sensible language design
@cairdcoinheringaahing Both I guess?
Like what does it do as a monad, what does it do as a dyad?
@DLosc (Though in a way, that makes Brachylog rather impressive: it only uses like 80% of its codepage and still manages to be a pretty solid golfing language.)
: is floor division and p is cartesian product, both dyads
so monadically it just does them in that order, so p(:(x, r), r)
dyadically it's a 2,2 chain so it does :(x, p(l, r))
except if it's 2,2,2 or 2,2,0, or if there's a nilad before it making it a 0,2 into 2,? chain, and for the monadic version it depends on if there's a nilad before or after it or a monad after it to make a 0,2, 2,0, or 2,1 chain
Jelly chaining is confusing, I just stick everything together until it works :p
@emanresuA Oh, this is fun: :p in MATL is a factorial program. : with one numeric argument is "1-based range" and p is "product."
19:17
@user if you look back on the past and think you were cringe, that just means you've grown as a person
@DLosc That's pretty nice ;p
@pxeger i think im still cringe, did i still grow as a person?
it's still confusing tho it's impossible to make jelly chaining not confusing, just somewhat closer to understandable
@AaroneousMiller probably, but only you can be the judge of that
@DLosc golfing its golfiness
19:25
@cairdcoinheringaahing oh god i finally realized why the input is so cursed
it ignores leading 0s in the binary representation, but it assumes that each character is 8 bits, so e.g. an input of 11 is 110001110001, but a single ? inputs 11000111`, taking a couple of 1s from the second character of input.
that doesnt sound good
it's not
it's really, really not
that also explains why the brilliant program i made a while back to pad input didn't work. it would take a character of input and then reverse the order of the bits in order to pad it out to 8 bits. I was really happy with it, and it seemed like it was working, until it wasn't.
So...is there a way you can take all of the input, then "frame shift" it I guess?
wdym by frame shift?
My cat is licking the rug on my floor
19:37
ah, that definition of frame shift
@AaroneousMiller I mean sort of like take all of the input, then travel along it from the right grabbing 8 bits at a time since you'd know for sure that those were correct
Now my cat did a backflip
Truly a talented cat
If only he had meant to and he hadn't landed on his head
@RedwolfPrograms your friend catherine seems awesome
ah shoot i image
i forgot about embeds
The XKCD oneboxing is so annoying sometimes
I know there was a trick to get it not to do that but I forgot what it was
19:40
copy the invisible character between these brackets and paste it after the URL: []
(zero-width space)
:) very swag
arent you glad we dont live in zero width space
@RedwolfPrograms but i don't know for sure that those are correct because it doesn't pad out the input, e.g. ~ is 1111110, but \n is 1010
@pxeger Or just add a ? to the end :p
if i inputted ~\n~, the input would be 111111010101111110
assuming that the input is 8 bits would be fine if it padded, and not padding would be fine if it didn't assume the input was 8 bits, but since it does both, it bad.
@AaroneousMiller Oh, the leading zeroes are removed from each characer?
Oh that's very scary
ye
I can use , since that only takes input 1 bit at a time, but that only works if I know the size of each character of input ahead of time and they're all going to be the same length
fortunately, I found a challenge where that happens to be true, so I may be posting my first non-trivial flipbit answer soon
Yeah, I was going to suggest only taking input as 0's and 1's (or any digit characters should work, actually)
the other input seems like, useless then
or at least, kind of niche

ah, so it is a bf type thing
damn i had a kind of similar idea
oh well
there's no way someone else had an idea for a brainfuck derivative
ur right, that'd be too much of a coincidence
20:05
kind of a self plug but impractically designed esolangs reminded me of this one i wrote up lol esolangs.org/wiki/Todo?
lol
just want to share but also im curious if anything else is like this
that's a pretty cool idea for a language
thank u ;_;
i havent been able to figure out how to write an interpreter for it though cause im bad lol
not yet at least
@thejonymyster If you like impractically designed esolangs, we have a chatroom for that: The Tarpit! (But it needs to be unfrozen at the moment)
20:13
oh swag :]
@pxeger Thanks, but the past here was me a day ago disabling the touchpad on the laptop I was using without having a mouse handy :|
ill keep an eye on that (o .)
@user That's not cringe, that's just an opportunity to learn all the keyboard shortcuts ;)
20:29
sometimes, you be doin something like this, and then flipbit suckerpunches you in the face with a spontaneous 1: Try it online!
for some strange reason, starting a loop sometimes adds a 1 to the end of the tape. it's extremely consistent, but I haven't been able to figure out what causes it yet
there's also this weird thing where if you try to move the pointer left of the tape, it clears the first bit. It'd be really neat if it would clear the whole tape or smth like that, but it only does the first bit.
@AaroneousMiller i take back the part about it being consistent
@cairdcoinheringaahing wtf is this: Try it online! Try it online! Try it online!
@AaroneousMiller Is it different if the loop is skipped entirely vs if the loop runs at least once? Because I think I found a bug in the interpreter
If a loop is skipped entirely, the loop_depth gets incremented but never gets decremented. Correct, incorrect
20:56
@DLosc yeah, that probably has something to do with it
Have you considered making your own fork of FlipBit and just fixing the interpreter? Or reimplementing it from scratch? :P
21:10
@thejonymyster Looks like a cool language
I wonder if there's a way you could use the queue of functions idea for control flow as well
But that'd be a totally different language
@RedwolfPrograms still id be interested O.O
im nothing without my discord emotes
What if...TNB emotes script
There was userscript but I gave up on that
Oh, I meant a userscript to add emotes to tnb lol
Also I'm amazed that's not a rickroll
The operator choices for userscript look so great though
You gotta finish that language
rlly good agree

I don't think context is needed here (or is it? what was the context?)
clearly it was a very educational discussion about pansexuality
@user there's this one person who always outdoes everyone at breakfast (think smoked salmon for breakfast). The running joke is that this student should run a stream showing us the making of this "fancy" breakfast
hence the onlypans joke
@hyper-neutrino Oh right, isn't pansexual that thing where people are really into pans?
Why would you tell people you're eating smoked salmon for breakfast lol
23:12
for clout
23:25
@user because we see it on camera
this is in zoomies

CMC: There are four common coins in the United States: pennies (1 cent), nickels (5 cents), dimes (10 cents), and quarters (25 cents). How many distinguishable ways can I have three of these coins?
@hyper-neutrino nope
Lectures on zoom, most workshops on zoom, one workshop on the uni's LMS
23:43
@user Combinations with replacement?
¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I'm having a hard time interpreting what "distinguishable" means here
i think just like
I guess 1+1+5 and 5+1+1 are not distinguishable
I guess that makes sense
23:47
4CR3 = (4+3-1)C3 = 6C3 = 20
Apparently double parens is the accepted notation for combinations with replacement
i've always used h for that
cant forget the number on top of nubmere thing
4h3 = 6c3 = 20
is there a name for that notation
but when I first learned it it was 4H3 (idk why H), and others use things like 4C^R3 and 4C3 with 4 as a superscript instead of subscript
23:49
