Q: Sum of The Palindrome Level c#

bl OneCan anyone please help, what am I missing on my code? The part one is Calculate The Palindrome Level, my answers all correct, I just could not figure it out for the part two i.e Sum of The Palindrome Level, I could not meet the answer Palindrome Palindrome is a word, phrase, or sequence that rea...

^ Who'll post the welcome message?
okay, pxeger did
why is it not showing in the review queues?

The review queues are fairly slow
Typically takes between 5 and 60 minutes for a post to enter the queues

and posts don't show in the queue if you cast a close vote on it already I believe

hm... is this migrateable

I'd say so

1:40 PM
Worst case scenario is that SO rejects it

I edited my welcome comment to remove the "check out SO's how-to-ask first" because I thought it wasn't so low quality
WRT this, I'm going to leave it open for now because it's only been 10 hours with no response; is that a good idea?

That's what I've done
If it goes unaddressed after a few more hours, then I;ll start thinking about VTCing
@NewPosts Closed posts can't enter the First Posts queue. That "entered" ~30 seconds ago, and was closed 37 seconds ago, so it immediately "left" the queues :/

Ask this on codegolf.stackexchange.com - they'll probably like the challenge :) — Absinthe 2 hours ago

???

1:44 PM
2 seconds @hyper-neutrino :P

@hyper-neutrino what?
really?

well I'm glad I checked that user's profile before attempting a migration

Someone who clearly knows nothing about this site directing them here - I feel kinda sorry for the OP tbh

Absinthe has almost 500 reputation on Code Golf
I cannot tell if they've just forgotten what we're about or if they're legitimately trolling

1:45 PM
huh, no hammers on it, which is quite unusual
I suppose it didn't have so no gold badges could do it

Only mods can hammer non-dupe closes

oh wait, all their rep is from one question that got really big

@cairdcoinheringaahing oh I'm dumb lol
I think Absinthe probably meant what @user suggested but didn't think about the wording well enough and the OP misinterpreted it

You still pinged me :/

They've just got 4 pings in the past ~10 minutes :P

1:48 PM
i'm still mostly gonna blame absinthe - "post this on Code Golf" pretty clearly just means "take this post and move it to Code Golf", and for someone with 499 rep on Code Golf, you'd expect them to at least offer some guidance about what to actually do with the post before posting

@cairdcoinheringaahing Time for 10 more
@hyper-neutrino Yeah, it's irresponsible to do that without linking to the help center, at least

@hyper-neutrino what's a migration?

They probably just took too much absinthe :P

Changing the topic slightly, Absinthe's user profile has reminded me of just how weird the rep + q&a system is on SO
@math If a post is off-topic here, but on-topic on another site on SE, we can "migrate" it there so that OP doesn't have to post it themselves

@user I was hoping the \ would escape it but it didn't work so I had to put a ZWSP after the @, sorry lol

1:50 PM
You get a lot less rep from questions there

@cairdcoinheringaahing Absinthe has 150+ questions (more Qs on SO than I have here) and 100+ As, just has ~3k rep

whoa

@pxeger np, I was kidding
@cairdcoinheringaahing Those are likely low-quality, judging from the volume

> has 150 questions
> doesn't have the Nice Question badge

well I find unnecessary pings really annoying, so I try to avoid doing them to other people too lol

1:52 PM
@cairdcoinheringaahing It is a lot harder to get on SO

> VBA Developer (freelance)
oh god

@ pxeger Eh, it's fine for me since I've turned off the volume

here like every question i post nowadays gets nice question (not my past ones cuz they're bad)

@user 20% of my questions on SO have Nice Question :P

@hyper-neutrino That's just the way CGCC is
@cairdcoinheringaahing What, do you have 5 of them? :P

1:53 PM
10 questions, 2 badges :P

i don't have nice question either lol (42 q)

@user I don't have even a single Nice Question badge here :/

@user In SO questions are more likely to be something like: Help, Help some weird error Hw can I solve Help pls. They don't get upvoted very much

True

well those are bad questions, i don't think it really means much to say bad questions don't get upvoted much

1:54 PM
Even nice questions (in tags such as Scala) only get a couple upvotes

but even questions that are fine in quality seem to not really get that many upvotes
whereas here even challenges that aren't all that great easily get 10-20 within a day or two

In Java, though, you can hit gold and get tons of upvotes for a mediocre question occasionally

it's cuz SO gets like 20 questions a minute xD

@hyper-neutrino Because everyone watches every single challenge

@hyper-neutrino how can they with like 30 questions a minute

1:54 PM
SE's model strives to have general questions with general answers. "Help, this code isn't working", even when a high-quality issue, are often too specific to fit with that

and most general things are just dupes nowadays

actually, I got a question ban is SO

@hyper-neutrino I'd say specific things are usually dupes

Take a look at any of the highly upvoted SO question. You'll notice 2 things: 1) they're all from 5 years ago or earlier, and 2) none of them are "specific" questions

@math If you don't mind me asking, how?

but sometimes I think good challenges that happen to have very specific appeal (niche problem, or very hard) don't get many upvotes too (c.f. @AJFaraday's recent KotH)

@math that doesn't really tell us much

Whereas easy-to-fgitw challenges get heaps of upvotes piled upon them

did you delete a lot of negatively voted questions?

^^^

1:57 PM
@hyper-neutrino you can't if there are answers already

I see a bunch of neutral/barely positively voted questions which is... pretty normal
i don't see how that'd get you a ban

Deleting low-quality questions is an easy way to get a ban

none of the seven questions on your profile have any downvotes

They might be bad, but the best thing to do is either edit them to improve them, or leave them be

why? wouldn't SO want you to delete your questions if you realise they're low quality?

1:58 PM
@cairdcoinheringaahing I might have deleted 2 or 3

@math yeah that's like the #1 way to get yourself question banned

@pxeger SO prefers that you edit them to be better

posting a bad question and then deleting it still creates clutter and moderation work and does not result in any positive outcome and thus the system will eventually restrict your question asking privileges because of that
whereas if you post a bad question and then fix it, then you've still created moderation work, but it's led to a positive outcome and the system believes the work was worthwhile and you have learned from it

And other people might benefit too

fair enough

2:00 PM
On the other hand, the Peer Pressure badge exists :/
You can have a little low-quality deleted posts :P

or something like that - I don't claim to understand exactly why the system was designed the way it is (or how the numbers work behind the scenes anyway) but that's roughly how I interpret it

That's a useless badge

@cairdcoinheringaahing I've been thinking for years that that badge should be removed

> While posting a bad question is, well, bad, deleting it is still good.
yes, thank you for not being misleading and contradictory at all

2:02 PM
I downvoted it, it's not very helpful

@cairdcoinheringaahing can somebody tell me the downvotes of that answer please?

They already get rewarded for deletion by no longer losing reputation through down-votes. — gerrit May 8 '14 at 20:52

@math +31/-2

Actually, deleting a downvoted question isn't always good. The user should try to edit it to improve it. Deleting downvoted questions can lead you to be question banned — Lamak May 9 '14 at 15:56

A: Newer users can't view vote counts, therefore cannot view current site consensus

caird coinheringaahingConverting my deleted comment into an answer for more visibility While this is a popular idea (and something I personally support), changing this isn't going to happen, but there is an easy way around it. This is actually a common idea over on Mother Meta (see here from 2010 or here from 2009). H...

@pxeger oh wow

Bah, that's for losers
Real users just commit voter fraud to get 1k rep everywhere :P

@user how can you do that
I don't really know much of HTML proxy and stuff

Imagine not getting 1k as an assoc bonus every time you join a new site :P

2:04 PM
@math It's a joke, DO NOT DO THAT!
@cairdcoinheringaahing Honestly, everyone should see vote counts

okay, okay

I like how Codidact shows them by default

I wanted to say that

I always confuse that with SE's "score on top, answer count on bottom" display :P

what is the motivation behind hiding it behind a reputation restriction anyway; was it computational expense or something like that?
@cairdcoinheringaahing same lol

2:06 PM
lol, my highest scoring question on SO was downvoted by multiple people, then upvoted after I discussed it on meta, closed as a dupe by me and then reopened by some random people
@hyper-neutrino Doesn't sound like it'd be hard to do in the first place

This is like part of your reason for not showing the post which achieved a badge: "we don't have that data." Yes, you currently don't have the separate votes denormalized, but the system can change. I don't think it's a good idea to use "we're not currently set up to make this change trivial" as a reason against a feature request. — Jon Skeet Sep 8 '09 at 7:11
Jon Skeet has spoken :P

The Skeet has spoken, thus it will be done :P

Heh, there's a rapper called Lil Jon who said "skeet skeet"
Lyrics (warning: NSFW)
@user It nearly remained closed, but it looks like one of the answerers themselves voted to reopen it

^^ That's the old version of the song! Lyrics from 2018 song

2:14 PM
bruh
It's the lyroll isn't it?

lyxroll?

Whatever you want to call it
It doesn't even count as a proper rickroll

@user Obviously, that's because it's a lyxroll.

Is "lyxroll" the official term, then? @lyxal
@user Yes it is

@math wow this is amazing
how have I never heard this before

2:17 PM
@rak1507 Lyxal voice reveal

sorta

I've heard his voice before but not that video

@rak1507 where?

from his other yt vids

rak actually kidnapped lyxal a few months back and forced him to finish Vyxal :P

2:21 PM
@rak1507 It's unlisted

ah yeah

Q: Calculate Palindrome Level

bl OnePalindrome Palindrome is a word, phrase, or sequence that reads the same backward as forward e.g. "madam", "nurses run", "23499432". When palindrome sequence is splited in half, the first sequence may be a palindrome too. Part #1 "Palindrome Level" is how many times a palindrome sequence can be s...

@PyGamer0 Sum of squares in APL is +.×⍨

@NewPosts uh?

2:25 PM
²S in Jelly if the input is a list

@math That's it as a challenge

²+²} if it has to be a dyad
or sorry, ,²S

@cairdcoinheringaahing Did this user forget about the sandbox?

I don;t think they knew/realised

@NewPosts Homework?

2:26 PM
probably

@pxeger A "rehash" is fine, so long as it's an actual challenge. The issue is that it isn't really that clear/lacks a OWC

er, we probably did not need three comments :p

yeah, that old chestnut...

eh. i already referred them to the sandbox on their first post anyway so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

@hyper-neutrino If only you could clear them up :P

2:27 PM
@PyGamer0 i am mad as you have to press the run button twice for it to run.While locally its fine.

please make your code field monospace

@hyper-neutrino i didright

@NewPosts Ugh, someone please add the [code-golf] tag to this

@hyper-neutrino it is??

2:30 PM
@NewPosts This is dupe of this

oh you dint have DejanVuSans Mono installed

my jelly and vyxal resource sites serve the font with the stylesheet because dejavu sans mono isn't a standard system font i think

@PyGamer0 monospace should not have quotes
afaik

also your code field doesn't expand so if there are more than three lines you have to scroll

@cairdcoinheringaahing hey why can't I change my close vote? I retracted it and now I can't put another one on. SE is so unnecessarily complicated sometimes

2:31 PM
@pxeger You can only VTC a post once

@Razetime I don't think it makes a difference
@cairdcoinheringaahing how did you change yours then? Or did you not VTC in the first place?

I knew it was a dupe, so went looking for it
Didn't realise it wasn't tho, so I couldn't hammer

VTC and VTRO can only be cast once each, regardless of type. why can't you change the close reason? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ but it does prevent close/reopen wars (especially with gold badge hammers) unless a really large amount of people get involved

@pxeger removing the quotes works :P

Woah chill pill guys, I simply meant the challenge of counting palindromic parts would make good golf — Absinthe 10 mins ago

2:33 PM
@Razetime oh lol

Poor Absinthe's inbox

CSS do be like that

@pxeger congratulations

^

2:34 PM
I kinda feel sorry for this user, as they haven't exactly had a good first impression with us :(

hm, maybe my initial comment was too long
i literally linked the sandbox and they just ignored that even after responding to me

@cairdcoinheringaahing Yeah, they even apologized on SO :(

Left a bit of a comment on the question, hope it helps them

they might miss it in the sea of long comments in their inbox though

@cairdcoinheringaahing nicely said

2:42 PM
HN coudl probably delete the irrelevant ones

@pxeger Possibly. Can't hurt to leave it there anyway
@user Already flagged for removal :P

CMC: How many of these 6 programming languages do you correctly identify on first try:

only the second and sixth lol

None
I think I vaguely recognise the 5th, but I;ve never seen any of the others

@Adám clojure, racket, elm, crystal (?), f#, smalltalk
nope, 4th one is wrong, no idea what that is

2:56 PM
The 4th is Dart.

?! I would think the obvious logo for dart would be a dart, but obviously not :P

I guess those are the feathers of a dart.

ah

@Adám none of them

@JoKing I wasn't even trying to golf it at first. I was just wondering how many unique 45 byte solutions I could come up with.
Very nice solutions though.

3:07 PM
@Adám the first 2 and the last 2 I recognise but can't place, and the 3rd and 4th are Elm and Dart
oh 1 is Clojure

Now, the crowd here consists of programming language enthusiasts, that probably have broader familiarity with the world's programming languages than most crowds have. I think it is safe to conclude that programming language icons should include the (stylised) name or initials (or be very suggestive, as with Elixir):

Welp, now I have to go through those and make my guesses :P
_ means "no idea", yes I know I've guessed D and R twice :P

Second R is Rust, and second D is Dyalog APL.

...how did I not recognise Dyalog???

D, ?, ?, Python, Pascal, C++, Clojure, R, C#, PHP, Rust / Ruby, Lisp, Racket, Caml, JS, Dart, Elm, Lua, Go Lang, Crystal, Erlang / ?, Basic, Java, ?, APL, TS, J, F#, Groovy, Smalltalk, Haskell, C
some of these i only know from the last CMC :P

3:16 PM
Same here :P

@cairdcoinheringaahing Most of your _ are miscounts.

@Adám Most? I had an extra _ in the top line, but the rest correspond with logos

@cairdcoinheringaahing You have 12 columns instead of 11.

3:20 PM
@Adám I'm not sure golfers are programming language enthusiasts really, something like clojure is very common but probably not very well known here

More golfing langs should have logos :P

More logos should be of golfing langs

05AB1E kind of has one, and I think so does Vyxal

@cairdcoinheringaahing Yes, the logo is my profile picture.

haha

ATO
3:26 PM
alas I'm not a golfing language

@ATO then who are you

@PyGamer0 well, not me, at least, for sure

@Adám 5/6 I misidentified the last one as smalltalk and while my first guess for the second to last was f# I did have to check.
(I have also worked professionally with 3/6 of them)

@WheatWizard what is the one you thought was smalltalk?

The last one.

3:30 PM
no, what is it actually

Don't know.
Oh it is smalltalk? it's the cover of byte magazine about smalltalk. It doesn't seem like a logo to me.

jan.

ugh

@NewPosts (OP edited and then deleted their original post)
FWIW I still think this is a dupe, as it's the same task, but over prefixes then sum

i am not sure if this deserves to be a dupe or off-topic more because it's both extremely underspecified and is mostly a code dump (which isn't even complete???) and is also just the same task, so let me know if I should hammer it the other way

3:36 PM
@NewPosts jan??
does Jan work in the bakery?

WW's a big fan of January :P

@pxeger jan li pali e pan.

I can't help reading WW as woodwind lol
@WheatWizard toki pona?

Pretty sure it is

That is toki pona for "People make bread."

4:07 PM
@Adám D, Swift, Kotlin, Python, Pascal, C++, Scheme, R, Ruby, ??, Racket, OCaml, JS, Dart?, ??, Lua, Scala, Basic, Java, Dyalog APL, TypeScript, J, F#?, Groovy
Whoops, didn't see C#, PHP, Rust, Go, Crystal, Erlang, Pharo?, Haskell, C at the side

Your first ?? is the word lisp so my guess is lisp.
Your second ?? is elm.

@WheatWizard Ooh, didn't see what that spelled out
@WheatWizard Thanks
Any idea what the balloon thingy is?

It's supposed to be Smalltalk.

Ah, close enough :P

But it's a magazine cover, not really a logo.

4:11 PM
Which magazine?

Byte magazine.
Also I don't think that's crystal, I think it's elixir.
It is elixir.

Right, a drop wouldn't make sense for Crystal anyway
@Adám Where'd you get this from, btw?
@user s/Scheme/Clojure?

Thanks!

All of this stems from my wanting to create a logo for APL.

4:16 PM
The apple ones you made before were quite nice

Current attempt:

I thought my laptop was shipping from connecticut but apparently the "CN" meant "China" lol

@Adám The fact that it contains "apl" is nice - it's annoying when you can't identify a logo because it doesn't contain the name of the language

4:36 PM
feb.

@Adám Sus
@NewPosts ಠ_ಠ

Again?
really?
maybe it's a bot
oh but they tagged it as a programming puzzle
@NewPosts deleted

butterise?

So presumably this has been posted multiple times before?
(Just logged on not too long ago)

4:43 PM
Now I want them to post 10 more, so we can get to dec. :P
@RedwolfPrograms This is their 4th post today

the initial post was a clone of their SO post, which I blame an SO user for for being misleading in their referral to this site
their second was the problem statement, but poorly formatted (and it is also a duplicate)

Take a look at the transcript for links + context

their third was a slightly modified thing that was still a duplicate and even worse formatted
and the fourth was pretty much the same thing with no real improvements
i pointed them to the sandbox on their first post, and three people did so on the second post, and even on the third post i think, and on the fourth post i've just given up
they should be qblocked by now anyway with how many negatively voted questions they've posted (and deleted) this quickly

Any% CGCC Q ban
7

i wonder if mods can get question banned
only one way to find out

4:45 PM
Probably not :P

Let's just hope they don't turn to sockpuppeting

Pretty sure you guys can manually lift q bans, so you'd just be able to unban yourself if so

i don't think i can?

If a mod posts enough low-quality questions that they would be Q-banned (or someone who is Q-banned is elected as a mod), then something is horribly wrong

oh hi pppery. congrats on your (upcoming) marshal badge :P (just need to wait for SE to update)

4:47 PM
> 500 helpful flags
Damn, that's impressive @pppery :D

Q: Compare positions of integers in this sequence

Redwolf ProgramsA001057 is one way to represent an integer as a natural number. It lists them according to the following pattern: 0, 1, -1, 2, -2, 3, -3, 4, -4, ... In this challenge, you'll take two distinct integers as input and return which is at a higher index in this enumeration. Take -2 and 1 as an exampl...

it took me almost two years

this question is tagged both status-declined and status-completed

although there were long periods during those two years when I wasn't actively flagging

moderators can neither impose nor lift post bans (either question or answer)

@cairdcoinheringaahing post and immediately delete your answer any% speedrun wr

It was invalid :P

ik lol

@hyper-neutrino Fixed (I think)

still returns 1 for -1, 1 and -1 for 1, -1

if I flag a post/comment made by a mod, can that mod act on it?

4:55 PM
yes
i don't think just using A will work because you need to be able to distinguish that -x is higher than x

I wish I could say "but people who posted posts/comments that need to be flagged won't be elected moderator", but I've personally flagged one invalid answer by a mod and am aware of two other invalid answers by moderators (but not brave enough to flag them)

Invalid answers and other things that need flags are totally different
Moderators aren't expected to be any better at golfing than a non-moderator

Is there any way we can make it less intimidating / scary to flag a mod's post? In terms of invalidity, we're all human, we all may make mistakes and even miss comments indicating that one of our answers is invalid, and I at least will not mind receiving a flag on my post saying it's invalid, and will either fix it or delete it accordingly. In fact, I would argue I am not even particularly good at golfing compared to the community, and that that isn't what's important for being a moderator.

Scary?

I've never found it scary, haven't ever needed to but I wouldn't think twice about it just because they're a mod

5:03 PM
(this is just in response for pppery indicating they haven't been brave enough to flag two of our posts)
In terms of other flags, I do think it's reasonable to hold us to higher standards, at least :P

5:24 PM
The specific instance I was talking about was discussed here six months ago, and there are other complicating factors than just the authors being moderators.

5:42 PM
@hyper-neutrino I think it's not just mods but also high-rep users
SE shouldn't show user cards by default - you should need to click to see them (like vote counts)
I've come upon bad answers by high-rep users in the past that I was too scared to leave a comment on and downvote because I trusted them more than me
(of course, I was wrong in a few instances, so there's that :P)

dear gurus.. I am having problems understanding bash. I have a lot of files with names of the form foo--ext1, foo--ext2, etc. I would like to rename them to be foo-bar-ext1, foo-bar-ext2, etc. How can you do that?
I tried reading mywiki.wooledge.org/BashFAQ/030 but I still don't get it :(
anyone got any idea?

6:08 PM
for f in foo--*; do mv "$f" "${f//foo--/foo-bar-}"; done is the answer :)

pure posix sh (+ coreutils): for file in foo--ext*; do ext="$(echo "$file" | tr -d- -f3)"; mv "$file" "foo-bar-$ext"; done

@pxeger I like that even though it is less golfed
my tr doesn't have -f as an argument it seems
what system has that?
not ubuntu bash it seems

6:37 PM
sorry I meant cut, not tr
I always get those the wrong way around for some inexplicable reason

2 hours later…
8:49 PM
What is the color of the green of the rep increase notification thing?

Upvote me and I'll find out for you :P

Done ;p

RGB is 72,168,104 :P

@JoKing I found another 38 byte solution and it really seems possible that some modification might make a 37 byte solution. I'm a little burn out though so feel free to snipe it off me :)

@cairdcoinheringaahing thx

8:52 PM
Apparently that's "Ocean Green"

@cairdcoinheringaahing Missed opportunity for me to get rep :P

@user Well, I'm 30 rep away from capping, I can't miss an opportunity that easy :P

Time to post a challenge :P
Wait, was that upvote you?

I'd like to say yes, but unfortunately not :/

If you mean the one on your newest answer, it was me since it was to my challenge

8:59 PM
Oh ok, just seemed a bit sus that it happened just as I noticed your voting fraud we were talking about upvotes

I just found my own question in Random Question, first try :o
