Lyxal: Dumbest scar stories, go!
user: I burned my tongue once drinking tea.
caird: I dropped a hair dryer on my leg once and it burned.
Wezl: I have a piece of graphite in my leg for accidentally stabbing myself with a pencil in the first grade.
Razetime: I was taking a cup of noodles out of the microwave and spilled it in my hand and I got a really bad burn.
Redwolf: I have emotional scars.
Probably wouldn't be to hard, you could set up a monitoring chat bot that just reads and stored new messages
@RedwolfPrograms You slander me, I slander you /s
Is somebody spam-upvoting me?
I've gotten +60 in the last twenty minutes, all on old stuff
Probably a bot
13:01
Oof get ready for rep removal
It happened to me once - someone upvoted my top answers. I flagged them and presumably, the account was deleted
Don't worry about it, if it's genuine spam it'll get removed. If not, enjoy your new rep
yep it's upvoting my questions
Lyxal: Caird has no survival skills, their need to win has replaced them.
User: That can't be true!
Lyxal: Watch this.
Lyxal: Hey Caird, race you to the bottom of the stairs!
Caird: *Throws themself out a window*
But I did win :P
4
13:04
You did a generalized speedrun
@Wezl whats the bounty on this for?
Redwolf: Imagine if someone handed you a box full of all the things you lost throughout your life.
Lyxal: It would be nice to have my sense of purpose back...
caird: Oh wow, my childhood innocence! Thank you for finding this.
user: My will to live! I haven't seen this in years.
Wezl: I knew I lost that potential somewhere.
Razetime: Mental stability, my old friend!
Redwolf: Jesus, could you guys lighten up a little?
3
Okay, that's my last quote for today
My last one for tonight:
Lemme just ninja you :P
Razetime: We need more help. Maybe I should call my friends.
Redwolf: ... Your what?
Razetime: My friends.
User: Are they saying “friends”?
Lyxal: I think they're being sarcastic.
Caird: No, no, no, this is delirium, they've cracked from being awake all night. Hey, Razetime! All of your friends are in this room.
13:07
@Razetime this except I didn't realize they put a link :/
Fixed font formatting on mobile is hard okay!
Okay well goodnight y'all
@Wezl so it's for a zsh answer?
I found a SEDE query for self-answers and I'm bountying this because I like it, the question's asked by pxeger, and I have an answer there :)
You didn't upvote it, though
random bounty..?
idk
13:10
@Wezl but you bountied to draw more attention to the question, not to reward an existing answer? Any reason?
i don't get it
Random bounties are allowed, just discouraged
discouraged :O
Don't question it, it's 100 free rep :þ
You're free to do with your rep as you see fit, but it's generally encouraged to make it clear why you are putting up the bounty, including using an appropriate reason
13:12
I do like the question a bit more than the answer though
but I suppose it might make people answer the question with a hope of getting the bounty
13:24
Scary hacker: I have all of your passwords
Me: Thanks! What's my email one again?
You can just tell me all of your passwords if you want to both keep them safe and not forget them.
The fact that Arnauld essentially wrote a monadic chain evaluator for "Jelly" in ~200 bytes is wild, especially as it looks to be arbitrarily extendible for more commands
wish I got a chance to fgitw this codegolf.stackexchange.com/questions/224515/…
:/
14:15
Some sites have an "Upcoming Events" box on the sidebar, different to the "Featured on Meta" and the "Hot Meta Questions", that frees up spaces for those two. (examples: Movies & TV, Literature). This does also include events in progress (see Literature's one about Mem & Zin). Should we ask SE if we can move LotM to be events, rather than featured posts?
Sounds like a good idea
CM? What's your favorite tag?
[king-of-the-hill]
No argument
@Wezl (don't take it the wrong way, I don't want any more of those questions, I just enjoy the answers)
14:59
CMC : Best single-line Unicode bicycle.
beat me to it
Nah, that's cheating.
I was thinking something along the lines of ⵚ🜆Ⴃ
Here's the best I can do with ASCII since I'm too lazy to look for good unicode chars: O-\O
FYI: the tag wiki info now includes the raw Markdown template for LotM posts, so feel free to use that if/when you post a LotM thread
15:02
OO
in my hypothetical font made specifically for this challenge, one byte: B
@Wezl Isn't that one of the default loopholes?
maybe for languages :)
@RedwolfPrograms o=7o
pedal_bike in this font :p
How does one use that?
15:07
It uses ligatures
Like how some programming fonts turn -> into arrows
Oh, I see
@user huh, nobody got their virginity back? must mean you haven't lost it yet?
...
CMP: Is this a stupid question? (please also explain your rationale)
@user No, self-refential jokes are clever, not stupid.
no, but it is a bad attempt at changing the subject
15:21
@Adám Thank ∇ou
@user That's a clever in-joke!
@rak1507 Changing the subject? What subject? We're talking about whether or not my question's stupid, remember?
@user that is clever
everyone who doesn't know APL is wondering why a triangle is so funny
in a tradfn do you just use the name
15:26
Yes.

1 hour later…
16:45
I've moved your messages @Wasif, that's a more relevant place for messages about UserScript :)
7 messages moved to UserScript
I forgot you were a room owner sorry :P
Does anyone have >10k rep on a different site (or >4k on a beta site) and is willing to help me test something? I'm trying to test a bug with tag wiki edits
17:02
@cairdcoinheringaahing i AM
you can use me
Stack Overflow, right?
yes
Ok, gimme a second to find a good tag
Ok, if you go to here, and click "Edit Tag Info". Type something into the second box. Does it show a preview of what you typed below the box?
(Don't actually bother to submit the tag wiki edit, it's just about the preview)
where is that button?
Hmm, does it not show one?
Weird. Never mind then
17:06
let me give a screenshot
Maybe SO is different about tag wiki edits, it doesn't look like you can edit any of them
then you can't use me i think :-(
Just did some digging, looks like the bug is with the gradscript, not with SE :/
mistakes happen with everyone its okay :-)
17:10
@Wasif caird didn't make the gradscript
Anyone whose got the gradscript, head over to here and type whatever into the second box. Does it show a preview of what you typed?
6 mins ago, by caird coinheringaahing
(Don't actually bother to submit the tag wiki edit, it's just about the preview)
Do you have a link to the gradscript? I'll download it and try.
@cairdcoinheringaahing no
no preview
> wmd.en.js?v=20f5e9cccfe9:1 Uncaught TypeError: Cannot read property 'render' of undefined
17:13
What's weirder is that it does show a preview if you're editing one, rather than creating one: try it
@RedwolfPrograms I should press f12 more often
I have the gradscript but no second box there?
The Commonmark.Converter#makeHtml has a check for if Commonmark.markdownit exists, and it doesn't fail, but it doesn't exist
What's the difference between and ? Looks like [markdown] is a subset of [formatting]. Request to merge/synonym?
@Wasif You can't suggest edits if you're suspended
I don't know why the gradscript would be messing with Commonmark though
17:18
oh, flags on meta that are actually useful? wow, that's rare
usually it's just Community complaining about sandbox for the like 300th time
@hyper-neutrino You're welcome :P
I think markdown and formatting probably shouldn't be merged, but I'm not sure about that...
it seems like formatting includes general things about formatting (structuring) a post that don't include the detailed mechanisms of SE text rendering, and markdown is just purely about things to do with SE's markdown engine.
I'd say they're fairly different. They'd probably be used together often, but formatting could refer to a lot of the non-markdown aspects of formatting, and markdown could be about markdown bugs and the like
All questions currently tagged with [markdown] should either have a different tag (e.g. this should have [latex] instead), or are formatting bugs
This is probably the only [markdown] question that should have that tag and not the [formatting] tag
17:25
this has nothing to do with markdown, so I can probably remove the tag directly
i'm going to hold off on potential retagging for a bit to allow meta to fill back up with normal activity
Actually this should have [status-declined] and [latex] on it, instead of [status-completed] and [markdown]
i don't think this is simple enough for me to just merge all markdown into formatting; some shouldn't have the tag at all, some deserve another tag, etc. i'll go through these one-by-one later since there aren't many
> Looks like the intrepid Stack Exchange community manager Shog9 graciously took care of this for us. See the unrendered MathJax below.
and then below that we see a rendered sqrt(2)
lol
@hyper-neutrino you ninja'd me wow
@hyper-neutrino I'll hold off on retag flags for a bit as well :)
17:30
now the top 4 questions for me on meta are grayed out :P (since i have completed, declined, and norepro ignored lol)
okay, thanks :D :P
17:46
@cairdcoinheringaahing It shows me a preview, but I did some stuff to the gradscript, so it may be that
18:27
yooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
hello @StackMeter what can I get for you
the a-maze-ing adventure is going into production @Wezl
0
A: Sandbox for Proposed Challenges

WezlNumber to set code-golfrecursionset-theorynumber (set meaning an unordered collection with no duplicates, though answers may use and output lists instead) Recently I was brainstorming what a language with only (arbitrarily nested) sets would be like. A number is represented with a set of that man...

clock: 22:40
cat: What can I get for you?
me:  Sleeeeeeeee...zz
cat: A gallon of slobber? Here you go.
me:  ...eeeeeep...zz
cat: Oh, and a complimentary massage with my uncut nails
@Wezl my sides have left the chat
18:34
@NewSandboxedPosts Yay a non-complicated challenge by me! It had better not be a duplicate
ROs, do y'all feel moving these quotes to a separate room would be a good idea? They're funny, but they may be taking up some space
I think if there are any more, sure. As is, they're fine, as they aren't taking up too much space
@NewSandboxedPosts This would be trivial in Husk if only it weren't statically typed :(
@user is this E but on .NET ? :P
@Wezl Ooh, that looks like a nice language!
18:54
At least I can do the next best thing and post to codidact :)
Please do, I'll copy over my Husk solution there :P
I did it before I posted in chat lol
time to ninja copy user's husk solution /s
Dennis has a 3 byte Jelly answer to it, but it feels cheap to copy that across :P
I mean, you can do that, but it'd be better to copy the Jelly answer
@cairdcoinheringaahing Ninja'd :P
18:59
I swear, MM should have a 5 rep requirement to ask there, every post by a 1 rep user is spam/off-topic :/
how would you get 4 rep though
accept two answers?
oh
assoc bonus
two suggested edits?
19:01
@pxeger How do you do that without a question? :P
it's unlikely someone would have something legit to contribute on MM unless they're a somewhat regular user of another site and thus understand SE and why MM exists
idk?
but idk if the threshold for assoc bonus is too high to be reasonable
Maybe posts should have to start on per-site metas and be voted onto MM
Then have a Meta MM for problems with that system :p
19:02
@RedwolfPrograms That would be a good way to promote bugs to the CMs :P
Oh no...I was drafting a challenge involving prime factors and I happened to pick [2, 2, 3, 5, 7] as an example. Nobody tell Lyxal, got it?
@Lyxal there's a 420 meme ripe for picking
Why not? I don't see any funny numbers there
2 * 2 * 3 * 5 * 7 =
19:05
Oh, I see
@@Lyxal where are you
Probably asleep
Hanging upside down, presumably
confirmed, lyxal is a bad bat
It's 5am (ish) rn in Australia :P
19:06
@hyper-neutrino The original was better even if the grammar was off :P

Q: The transformations 2D

Nguyen V.G.I would like to ask a question relating to the transformations in the 2D plane. What are the transformations 2D which preserve the X coordinates and change the Y coordinates which causes lines that slope up or down to transform into horizontal lines? Thanks a lot to you for your attention!

Someone explain the tags to me :P Wrong answers only :P
Darn it, I only have 99 rep on MM
Flag as inappropriate, then "off-topic"
Can't downvote whatever the heck that question's supposed to be
@user I have 101
19:08
Does OP not realize that making Y = 0 is how you would do that?
@StackMeter Looks like you didn't get downvoted :P
@RedwolfPrograms This is a person who posted on MM about a math problem. What do you think? :P
imagine not having rep on meta
Imagine not posting a dumb question, getting downvoted, deleting the question, and then downvoting other people's dumb posts
@cairdcoinheringaahing i can schedule community events quite easily (had to ask on TL for where to find it, but the interface looks pretty straightforward)
The trick is trivial edits and posting [feature-requests] about fixing SE's stupid design choices :P
19:11
so if we decide to do that i can just go set it up within like a minute or two :P
@hyper-neutrino Oh, nice!
Can they go for a month?
i believe so?
wait you have more rep than me on meta. xD
my trick is a) post smth during the monica incident saying what everyone sane person agrees with and getting like 17 + 27 upvotes from that
b) just post a ton of bug reports
Only a couple of hundred more :P
c) forward discussions from site meta to MM because moderator <o/
oh also farm a free repcap off of someone renaming feeds to something about incoherence and crack
19:14
wait this user (the one that just posted on MM) has posted stuff on Math.SE as early as...
may of 2020
bruh????
At the least the OP was kinda understanding: "Thank you very much for your share"
Honestly they probably forgot which site they were on
@hyper-neutrino bro
IIRC I had around 800 rep on MM, then the Great Question Rep Recalculation happened, and I shot up to basically double
@hyper-neutrino why
19:15
@StackMeter Because literally everyone hated SE when that happened, so it was easy to get rep by just criticising SE
well, i felt like voicing my opinion, and it was an active topic so it just got a ton of upvotes. of course not trying to gain free rep from someone else's suffering but i wanted to state my opinion to SE, not that they'd probably listen lol
Or ^, if you want to be less cynical :P

Q: Should the Language of the Month post be an "Upcoming event"?

caird coinheringaahingSome sites on the network have an additional sidebar box for "Upcoming Events", which is separate from both the "Featured on Meta" and "Host Meta Posts" boxes: Screenshots taken from Movies & TV and Literature. Despite the name, this also includes events currently in progress. I think this woul...

@NewMetaPosts Damn, you're getting quick
@cairdcoinheringaahing and I'm out here scrounging for rep when you get it force-fed down you
19:17
you'll get rep over time. you just haven't posted enough :P (0/23)
my advice for SE is to not focus on rep at all. it will come over time; focus on the quality of your own posts and enjoying using the site itself
@StackMeter If you want some "easy" rep, check this out :P
of course, easy to say for someone with 30k rep whose rep doesn't even matter, but... still.
^^ that too
Yeah, it always feels a bit "ivory tower" when I suggest that people should ignore rep :/
huh, apparently some sites are experimenting with / changing to three-vote closure limit
probably don't need anything like that here?
19:20
Poll: Should stars give reputation?
it's likely for sites with more bad activity but fewer active/high-rep users
(I vote no)
@Wezl absolutely not
It's likely to make vtcing as unclear worse, and we have enough traffic to not have to wait too long for obviously close-worthy questions to stay open
@Wezl Yes, but 0.1 rep per message that is starred
yeah, I agree.
heh, 0.1 rep and after adding the rep your rep gets rounded, so it doesn't accumulate over 10 messages
19:20
You only get the +1 rep for each 10 messages that have say 3 stars or more :P
@hyper-neutrino Nah, you get 0.9 rep per star, but the reputation variable is an int :P
Reminds me of the time I decided to be "smart" and average a bunch of numbers by averaging the first two, then averaging that with the next one, and so on :p
@Wezl No
@cairdcoinheringaahing how about 18446744073709551615 rep?
19:22
Æm€/ probably
n=>n.reduce((a,i)=>(a+i)/2,n[0])
@RedwolfPrograms I think this is invalid
Oh wait
There
it averages between the first and 0, right?
19:24
(+÷2)/ in APL I think
+H¥/ should work too
bruh
@Wezl Doesn't / reduce from the right?
@hyper-neutrino Get nae nae'd :P
Ash, two bytes: ρq
19:24
@cairdcoinheringaahing I don't think the order matters
@Wezl (2÷⍨+)/⌽, I think
@Wezl Pretty sure it does
@Wezl [1,1,0] from the left is 0.5, from the right is 0.75
+÷2 is just the number 0.5
Aw, never mind. q is average of an array :(
19:25
[1,2,3,4,5] -> 4.0625
@user ok you're right and thanks for the pings >:/
It'd actually be ρ{q,
f=lambda a:a[1:]and f([sum(a[:2])/2]+a[2:])or a[0] in python probably
19:29
lol
i wish the move messages linked to the transcript
@hyper-neutrino How do you still have a link to that? :P
@hyper-neutrino Click the "10 messages"
@cairdcoinheringaahing chat search feature; just looked for when i said "edited" because i recall telling Wezl that editing re-pings in case they didn't know :P
@cairdcoinheringaahing lol im smart
Well, we haven't had any Indonesian gambling spam for 16 hours, which is progress :P
@cairdcoinheringaahing wdym
19:31
20 hours ago, by caird coinheringaahing
That's 4 spam posts about Indonesian gambling within the past 24 hours now :/
@cairdcoinheringaahing wrong
ಠ_ಠ I completely overlooked that in the New Posts listing
caught in just under 2 minutes though, probably thanks to CHQ
> [game-of-life] [logic-gates]
It's the most recent new post as well
19:32
:P
@cairdcoinheringaahing It's just after midnight in Indonesia rn, give it some time :P
please don't jinx it ಠ_ಠ
@user I burned myself in the shower once lol
Anyone else remember Wesley Atwood (or similar), the super offensive spam poster from a few months back? That was fun to deal with :P
@StackMeter That sucks
@cairdcoinheringaahing fun?
19:34
@user "fun"
I actually kind of like the occasional spam, because it shows off just how good our moderation is :p
Oh, ""fun""
@Wezl While this is a bad idea, I still think it would be nice to (very gradually) get more rep the more you talk in chat (saying this as one who posts less on main than chat :)
'''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''fun'''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''
@RedwolfPrograms Or rather, how little activity we get
19:35
uhhhhh trying to remember who atwood was
@hyper-neutrino Kept using racial slurs in his spam and claimed that the US government was trying to silence him
Posted like 15 spam posts in a day
i'm either forgetting or i was a bit too inactive during that period and you guys got to it before i noticed. again a demonstration of the amazing community moderation here :P
@pxeger """""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""fun"""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""", """""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""fun""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""" indeed
this is familiar
yes. i've definitely seen this
19:38
@cairdcoinheringaahing the links are dead
@StackMeter you don't have enough rep to see deleted posts
@StackMeter You need 10k reputation to see deleted posts
Those are the only posts I've had to use "rude or abusive" post flags on, rather than spam flags :P
@RedwolfPrograms (NSFW, deleted), Love this comment of yours :P
oh i remember that. that was hilarious :P
this post insulting me and Jo King; ironic given who went on to become mods
> I'm voting to close this question as off-topic because what even...
19:42
I do not remember those at all
i only remembered the question and the first one since, well, they were kinda talking about me / i had interacted with the post
I just fed my cats. One of them keeps trying to eat the other's food, and eight times I've caught her and she runs away, and then without fail she'll walk right back a minute later
@cairdcoinheringaahing bro I can't even see this
just get 10k rep ez
@RedwolfPrograms eight in how many times
19:44
(there is nothing nice to see)
@hyper-neutrino I've been at 301 for a week and a half
It's just a couple of users being incredibly rude to HN, JoKing and other people
someone should make some kind of mirror bot to resolve that limitation. But how would a bot get 10k rep, that's the question...
oh, there was also that one user that insulted me by digging up my na.op.gg profile and insulting me for being bronze in League of Legends (???)
Maybe I should sacrifice my account when I get there
19:45
@StackMeter you haven't posted for a while, though
That guy got a compliment from xnor and then proceeded to insult them
@hyper-neutrino Pfff, imagine only being bronze. Made by the never played LoL gang :P
you know what's ironic
i was Iron rank at the time, which is lower than Bronze. so they can't even insult me right
3
@hyper-neutrino if you're going to insult me, insult me consistently
wow lol
19:46
> I'm glad to see you've conceded civil discussion and shown your true self. It was always obvious that you were looking for trouble :)
7
(posted by me)
"Imma bought to end this man's whole career" - HN, just before posting that comment
@cairdcoinheringaahing oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooh
Of course, as a mod now, I would never engage users like this, because admittedly it was inflammatory and sort of trying to get even more out of them. I didn't have the ability to just suspend the user back then though. forget if i even flagged the comments, cuz i just found it funny, it didn't hurt me it was just... absurd to the point of being funny
Yeah, I always get the temptation to do that, but figure that it'll just make me angry at them more than it will them at me :/
@cairdcoinheringaahing I love flaming people to piss them off
@RedwolfPrograms you missed a lot
Plus, the last time I did that, the user literally dug up old chat transcripts to call me a f*gg*t, which was fun ಠ_ಠ
i had/have... a bad habit of acting super nice and friendly in an obviously sarcastic sense towards people who become hateful or uncivil (so long as they are only attacking me and i don't find it hurtful yet - i will not tolerate that against people i care about). mostly did that on Quora, not SE though.
@hyper-neutrino honestly, I'd just say f**k them and go for the throat asap
well, I've tried to get rid of that habit, and especially on CGCC, if they've gotten to that point, it is grounds for me to suspend them immediately
19:53
@StackMeter The best thing to do when users are being rude/offensive is just to ignore them and have their account get suspended/banned/destroyed. Typically they want confrontation, so responding angrily will be exactly what they want.
The problem with engaging with those kind of users is that they literally don't care what they say and so will insult you to the ends of the Earth. I can live without being insulted tbh
i doubt they care even if i respond in a friendly manner and am totally unhurt/unaffected. they probably think i'm putting up a front and am secretly really upset, even though i'm not, so it doesn't really matter what i say, as long as i respond they'll keep insulting me
Especially because as soon as those kinda people see that I go by different pronouns, it becomes 1000 times worse :/
@RedwolfPrograms why would they want confrontation - for all they know, this might be the one person to not p!ss off
and i doubt they're upset themselves, they probably think they're so clever for what they say, so it's entirely unproductive. hence why i try to avoid it
19:55
@StackMeter Have you ever engaged with one of these users?
@cairdcoinheringaahing oh, yeah, i can imagine :/ that's upsetting
Everyone who isn't themselves pisses them off
@hyper-neutrino which is why I don't bother and just flag. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
the best advice is to just flag them and ignore them and if they keep causing trouble and it's getting super serious and nothing has happened feel free to ping me here :P
That was completely inappropriate @StackMeter
@StackMeter Please don't post offensive stuff here, even if it's not directed at anyone in particular
And in many cases responding to someone with that would make you an equally large part of the problem
19:58
Once you get into the mud with them, everyone's getting dirty
Don't engage troublesome users, just flag them, ignore them, disengage. And even if it's not directed at anyone, do not post inappropriate content here. Even against troublesome users, don't attack them yourselves; it's one thing to respond to them with friendly messages to piss them off, it's another thing to be hurtful yourself. Our policy doesn't care if you or the other person started it - Be Nice applies to everyone.
Let's move on from this topic.
nice weather we've got here, huh
3
Hmm, yes, it's very <insert weather>
What's it like where you are?
19:59
^ CMP
There is lots of air in the sky here
beautiful
Some water in various shapes as well
We actually had the first rain in a few weeks today
it's spring but the bugs haven't come yet, so it's perfect
19:59
It's supposed to rain here soon
it is currently moderate/cool temperature, the sky is grey but not like rain-cloud-type-cloudy
It's been nice and sunny almost non stop in April, but decided to randomly rain ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
