8:01 PM
How long would it take to compute the millionth digit of e?
I know about really fast algorithms for pi but not e
CMC compute the nth digit of e for n up to a million fast enough that it works on TIO

I have a fast one, but it fails due to large numbers
Actually, that seems wrong, ignore me :/

8:18 PM
CMC Create a scenario in which a user reaches 50k rep without any silver or gold badges (If it's not possible, I'll happily accept a proof)

Post 5000 answers than only ever get 1 upvote

Silve rtag badge
250 questions with 20 upvotes each could work

It's probably possible to avoid those as well
@RedwolfPrograms Socratic and Inquisitive

You'd have to post lots of spam questions too
To keep you from having a positive record

And get upvotes on them?

8:21 PM
No
Get them closed and deleted

Or post 250 questions in 29 days, 20 upvotes each wait, repcap

True
Would still take ages
And you'd have to be careful not to repcap too much

Post 1 answer that isn't accepted with a score of 24 or less, get bounties

True that works
Lots and lots of bounties

Those don't count toward tag score right?

8:23 PM
Nope

Upvotes - downvotes

What are the fewest badges possible to hit 10k?

Student is going to be the only required question badge if you go down that route

8:25 PM
You'll probably hit Curious and co tho

You didn't

Good point, well made

@RedwolfPrograms Btw is this meant to match HTML tags?

You can't take too long though, or you'll get yearling

10k is definitely doable in a year

8:26 PM
@Ausername No, a subset of math notation
A tag badge would be pretty hard to avoid on this site though

Once you get close to one, switch to different criteria

50k - you can't repcap so 198 is max ( 1 downvote)

@Ausername Why can't you repcap?
Mortarboard is bronze

I suppose you can, but 29 times only
or Epic

8:28 PM
Epic is 50 times

Oops

Doesn't look like any of the participation or moderation badges would be necessary for 10k

So 49 times max

Enthusiast would be hard to avoid

You could skip every 30th day

8:28 PM
If you're posting that much, you're likely to hit 30 days

250ish days assuming max rep/day
So you could skip some

@cairdcoinheringaahing Could you use decimal or mpmath?

You'd get Yearling eventually, but after you got the rep

@cairdcoinheringaahing It's 30 in a row though
You can easily skip one day a month, maybe even two for safety

Yeah, it wouldn't be hard, you'd just have to keep track
CMC: What is the minimum rep you need to get every badge? (as in "lowest peak")

8:31 PM
1 - get loads + loads of downvotes
after you get all badges
Actually it's impossible because here some badges are unachievable

Ignoring downvotes it has to be at least 2000, due to Great Question and Answer

Generalist and Illuminator

@RedwolfPrograms Repcap limits you
Copy Editor means at least 1000

Oh, good point
Legendary...that's at least 30000 right?

Legendary requires 200*150 = 30k

8:32 PM
That's almost certainly the highest

Illuminator needs 500 upvotes in 12 hours

Obviously it's possible to stay lower by bountying, but 30k seems like the "minimum" going by basic scenario
@Ausername Illuminator requires doing x 500 times, where x is "Edit and answer a post within 12 hours of each other, the answer must be +1 or more"
Doesn't require getting 500 upvotes in 12 hours, that's insane

Oh ok

Some day I am going to make an SO account and try to use suggested edits to get to 2k without ever posting :p

Another one: for all the "actions" on the site (edit, answer, ask, review, tag wiki edit etc.), you can only do 1. How many badges can you get?

8:36 PM
(not really that'd take forever and I don't like helping out on SO)
Twelve question badges (one question and one bounty), still working on the rest

@RedwolfPrograms And one accept

Answering is where it gets complicated
Self learner conflicts with quite a few
So I think it'd be better to skip that one

I think you can get 11 answer badges with 1 answer and 1 edit

Probably better to save the edit though
Do rollbacks count as edits?

I'll say no, as they're explicitly something else in the system

8:39 PM
I mean for badges

I don't think so

Like do you get editor alongside cleanup?
Oh ok
Excavator might be a good use of the edit
Make it a retag to get organizer

Legendary is technically possible with just 1 answer and 1 question
I count 11 Participation badges

Taxonomist is free with the question or the edit

You might even be able to get Constable/Sheriff, but we can ignore those

8:42 PM
If you suddenly had everyone downvote your answer after it got you Legendary and friends you could also get Peer Pressure, but discplined is the easier option
All of the Other badges are free

And I get 12 Moderation badges

Do you count upvoting and downvoting as separate actions?

No, you can do each once

Civic duty & Sportsmanship are impossible

How is Sportsmanship impossible?

8:45 PM
See above
Because that requires 100 votes

Can't you post a single answer and upvote a hundred answers on a single question?
@Ausername Oh I didn't see votes were limited too

I'm going to be halfway to Socratic at the end of today!

nice :D

._.
I'd be much closer if I hadn't posted a bunch of questions on the same day several times

So the scenario: you post a question with a 100+ score, 10k+ views and 100+ favourites and accept an answer. You then start and award a bounty on someone else's question. Next, you edit a question (including the tags) that was inactive for 6 months and on -3 or less. Then, you are the first answer to that question, with a score of 100+ and accepted, and the question's score becomes +3

8:48 PM
(or your own question, that's also two badges)

Time to create sockpuppets and test this out! /s

@cairdcoinheringaahing Don't forget that, before it's accepted, it has to have double the previous accepted answer's score to get Populist
Oh nvm
Oh wait nvm the nvm

After that, you edit your About Me, visit and vote in the next election, stick around for a year visiting 100 consecutive days while recapping 150 times. You post a popular question on meta, flag a post, roll back an edit, cast both an up and a down vote, do a review, suggest an approved tag synonym, and edit a tag wiki. Finally, you delete your answer
@RedwolfPrograms You can either get Populist or Revival, not both. I chose Revivial cause its easier to describe

> visiting 100 consecutive days while repcapping 150 times

8:51 PM
@cairdcoinheringaahing Wrong

@hyper-neutrino It would have to be a very good question

@RedwolfPrograms Yep, good point

Answer first, second answer gets accepted, then yours gets accepted after it hits double the accepted one's score

Or even, first answer is accepted with a score of less than 2
> Answer more than 30 days after a question was asked as first answer scoring 2 or more

Don't you get a badge for a self-answer?

8:52 PM
Yes, but then you don't get the accept-based badges

Of which there are a lot

Oh ok

This is fun to speculate about :p

For a grand total of 49 badges, and at least 30000 reputation
9 of which are gold

I would love to see someone do this

8:55 PM
@hyper-neutrino 2 slow burn, very good posts :P
The luck you'd need would be insane :P
You'd need both of your posts to be incredibly high quality, and the answer would need to be good on a poor quality question, making it even harder

Time to start my speedrun to 49 badges and site analytics :P

Legendary and Epic would be the hardest to get tho - repcapping 50/150 times from only 2 posts

I'm addicted to anti-jokes. That's why all the people I love left me.
(ignore me, just recording a flash of inspiration I had)

In the past 4 days, I've raised 24 helpful flags on MM. It took me ages to get to Deputy here and I think I'll hit in a month on MM, if that

Not much oppurtunity for flags here

9:01 PM
If I keep going at this rate, I'll get Marshal in 83 days there. I'm 1/5th of the way there here :/
@Ausername Which I suppose is a good thing :P

i wonder who has the most helpful flags
pppery apparently has 400+ according to their profile

Mego hit Marshal IIRC

do any existing users have it

huh, never heard of nissa before but they have it. lol

9:04 PM
Holy crap, Erik has 919

What

oh wait flag count is public information
lol

Count is, but not what was flagged

mhm
is #declined flags visible to you guys?

Our declined flags are

9:06 PM
Ours are

okay
(too lazy to log in to my sock to check lol)

I have 5 declined flags and 5 disputed ones

"log in to my sock" sounds confusing out of context

I would have 4 declined, but someone decided to decline a bunch of spam flags on a spam post :P

Why

9:08 PM
that was my bad
codegolf.stackexchange.com/a/223723/68942 you can't see this but /shrug/

2000 rep until I can see deleted stuff

i did not understand its context and assumed it was just blatantly off topic and should be just banished, didn't realize it was spam. asked TL and i'm not sure I got a 100% consensus on whether or not redflagging it would've been right

It was a spam post, but not an obvious spam post, so HN declined them

Is it annoying to be able to see deleted posts? Do you have to scroll through a bunch of them everywhere?

Sandbox, yes

9:09 PM
in any case, the account was created right before posting it, so i probably should've just been more decisive and yeeted it

Everywhere else, not really
@hyper-neutrino From now on, I'm raising flags with "This answer is invalid, please yeet it"
3

:disappointment face:
that's one of the times i can recall making a blatantly wrong call :( your honor, my client pleads "oops"

Why does this language exist?

@hyper-neutrino It was annoying, cause I got a "a recent flag was declined, make sure you should be flagging this" message for the next couple :/
@Ausername To win at ?

@Ausername Because whoever created it thought it was fun. Why does anything exist?

9:12 PM
True

@cairdcoinheringaahing oh :c sorry about that

@hyper-neutrino ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ mistakes happen

mhm. can't un-make the mistake so i just have to learn from it ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
apparently i only have 42 helpful flags. lol... (and i'm not gonna get more :P)

Got to love mods not getting Deputy/Marshal :P
TBH that's one of the things I want to do before (assuming I do) standing for mod
Badges: Gotta catch be awarded them all :P

9:44 PM
if I ever find a counter example to the goldbach conjecture the first thing I do is going to be submitting an answer in that language

Before or after claiming your $1m prize?

clearly before, reputation > money

Q: Best Rolling Ao5

qwrIn speedcubing, an Ao5 (Average of 5) is computed for a set of five times by removing the fastest and slowest times, and then computing the mean of the remaining three times. A "rolling ao5" is computed for a sequence of at least five times by computing the ao5 for every set of consecutive five ...

@NewMainPosts Why the 2 decimal places :(

And the trailing 0 requirement :(
I had to add 3 bytes to, then delete my Jelly answer because of those two
Any final feedback? Considering posting today/tomorrow

10:01 PM
CMC: What's the best replacement for :P?

looks like a total pain, 10/10
@Wezl :D probably
or ;D?

some potential candidates: :) :>, and of course ᐚ ᐑ ᐔ ᑒ ᑤ

:> then maybe
:) is just happy not like :P

this one is eating its eyeball

now that's a horrible image

10:06 PM
(working on a font and looked more closely at canadian aboriginal syllabics)

interesting, any particular reason?

ᔸ: I have a nose
cat: vroom
ᔽ: that was violent
@rak1507 I had to have ᐵ and ᑈ from dzaima/apl

ah, cool
wondered if you were making an esolang with them as the code page or something

APL is an esolang

10:28 PM
lol

@Wezl q:
:b works too

@Delfad0r It's a pain.

And they won't even let me take the length of the array as input :(
(I don't actually know if that's standard, so I can't complain too much ^^)

10:44 PM
@Delfad0r it's usually standard, for instance C has no other way

I'm sure this challenge was in the sandbox, anyone have a link to it?

I got unupvoted and now I'm sad :P
So close to bronze code-golf and yet so far.

@cairdcoinheringaahing hm, I definitely remember seeing that yet I didn't comment on the IO, I have let my future self down

@rak1507 I commented on the I/O for you (didn't change anything tho) :)

10:47 PM
yeah

Unrelated, but diep.io is such a frustrating game. There's a ton of really good ideas but they ruined it with the actual gameplay and it's not any fun as a result

Extra brownie points if anyone can find a 16 (or less) byte Jelly answer to my Gelatin question before NMP posts it

@cairdcoinheringaahing Random fact: yeet has been proposed as an actual keyword for Rust
6

@Bubbler I so want this to happen :P

well, I got a jelly answer working...
takes 25 bytes for a pretty trivial computation :(

10:50 PM
'used because it definitely won't be the final keyword' :(

@Bubbler I'd star this but I'm at a record of 6 unstarred messages out of 8

@hyper-neutrino Maybe use ær2 and checking if there's only one digit after the .?

i'll try that
gtg for dinner but i will try thinking of other options later

7 minutes on NMP

10:56 PM
@cairdcoinheringaahing Btw, early congrats for Socratic (99 progress + Gelatin challenge today).
I'm also at 99 progress but I'll post mine after 0:00 UTC

@Bubbler Thanks! I was torn about trying to do it on the same day as you, but I'm (probably/should be) going to bed in ~an hour, so I figured it'd either be late tomorrow or you'd do it tonight
ಠ_ಠ I just repcapped, but Epic doesn't think so because of the bounty I started earlier

Epic really has nothing to do with repcapping

Q: Interpret Gelatin

caird coinheringaahingGelatin is a worse version of Jelly. It is a tacit programming language that always takes a single integer argument and that has 7 (or maybe 16) commands. You are to take in a Gelatin program and it's argument and output the result. Gelatin Gelatin programs will always match the following regex: ...

Good morning

@cairdcoinheringaahing I have 15 bytes but it fails one single test case and I can't tell why :/

11:02 PM
How to progress in Epic: schedule your questions and bounties carefully so they don't overlap, and pray for FGITW-able challenges to not appear on the day you put up a bounty

@user Lyxal, you've been ninja'd

as in I can't tell how the given output for it is correct lmao

~ is kinda useless...isn't _~ always just 0?

if I try to work +~D_~_ out myself I get
oh
never mind

@RedwolfPrograms Or +~, which is double

11:03 PM
I didn't read the challenge

But also, there's no other way to consistently zero out v

Okx
Hey I have a question for function answers, if they have a side effect meaning they can only be run once per program, is it still valid?

Do you have an example?

that's been a bigf meta discussion in the past and I think the answer was no but I forget

@Okx Hmm, that's a tricky one.

Okx
11:05 PM
Say a function that relies on the fact that a global variable doesn't exist at the start but sets the global variable during the course of the function
Does it have to explicitly unset the global variable at the start?

no

@Okx I think the general consensus is that functions have to be reusable, so that wouldn't be allowed

really? huh

24
Q: Do function submissions have to be reusable?

Martin EnderSimple question: if I answer a code golf with a function (for a task which is supposed to terminate), does the function actually have to be reusable? Or could it, say, modify some globals which break the function when called again? (Note that this is not about whether functions may modify their ...

Okx
Alright thanks

11:06 PM
but you can submit a full program, which may be shorter if you rely on mutating global state

o/

Okx
Unfortunately I am working with a language that doesn't make that possible

aw, shame

@Bubbler Early congrats on Socratic! :P

:P

11:17 PM
That's pretty interesting timing that I happened to hit half-socratic on the same day both of y'all get it
I guess I'm exactly half as good at asking questions, no more, no less :p

E. That's how I'm feeling because of the 2 hour midterm test I have to do for uni today

Aww. Good luck with that

Q: Restricted-source, take this!

Bubblera.k.a. You Can Output Anything With Labyrinth Or Hexagony™ Challenge In a recent restricted-source challenge, I could print any character with only half of the allowed digits with very small character count, by abusing the "digit commands" and modulo-256 output function. Now, it's about time to m...

11:34 PM
i go to eat dinner and two challenges get FGITW'd in jelly
:(
(and probably golfier than mine would've been)

There's a pun about Jelly and dinner to be made here, but as always, I can't find it

I got an idea about chat golf event: creative golfing

That's 4 spam posts about Indonesian gambling within the past 24 hours now :/
6

More indonesian gambling spam
ninja'd

oh i don't have my spam destruction template on windows
oh well i don't care about this user they can just have a default mod message

11:39 PM
@cairdcoinheringaahing can you show me the spam question?

I've lost 70 rep to the cap today, and it resets in 20 minutes :(

You won't be able to see them, they've all been deleted

Deleted in 3 views, that's some effective moderation :p

well this one was blatant so i didn't do the monke brain :P

11:40 PM
bruh ipad store my message
blyat

caird sent that so i went over to the main page, clicked the flags icon, opened it, and redflagged it so
g o n e

@hyper-neutrino :(

no, that is a :)

There's not much to see honestly

it's just your typical casino promotion spam

11:41 PM
that may have historical value (x

well if you really want to see it
just get 10k rep

ok

unfortunately users can recreate their account under the same email address
so i suspend them for a year before destroying their account
though they're probably on throwaway emails anyway

@hyper-neutrino Honestly, if I had a delete-as-spam button like the mod one, plus the New Posts userscript, this place would never have spam :P

I don't know why but all of a sudden after seeing that post in a language I don't know I feel a massive urge to go spend all of my money in an Indonesian casino
7

11:42 PM
:P

IpAd StOp ToYing My MeSSaGE

every time i see these i have an urge to go on a destruction spree and just purge a bunch of accounts with casino spam in their profiles
but as long as they don't post they won't really be noticed
and it's a waste of moderation time to do so, and all the mod messages would annoy the other mods

I dont get why destroyed accounts get mod messages
Especially as it's a different thing to deleting accounts

no the mod message is me suspending them for a year
unless they also get an auto mod message

11:45 PM
idk i don't remember if i got an email when my account was removed

You can make a golf question regarding determine a question is casino spamming or not

no idea if they get an auto mod message when destroyed tho

but it couldn't have been destroyed because i had 500 rep and it was through a special procedure
it took 1:44 for it to get nuked. i should open new posts; 1m 44s is quite long
4

I had enough time to flag, that's how long it was :P

I should set up a notification service for new questions so we don't have to keep tabs open :p

11:47 PM
If I wasn't so bad at the long game of poker and I had money to spare I might actually pay some attention to the questions. But none of those is true, so I guess deleting them is fine :p

atleast 1m44s is faster then main post bot

@RedwolfPrograms I wouldn't use that :P
Imagine using it on SO :P

I refuse to

my nuke record is around 36 seconds and that's cuz i had my text editor open and only tabbed back like 20s after it was posted

That would be horrible

11:48 PM
it was 4AM so activity was weird so tabbed over
this shows something about the contents being erased and the content being in the revision history right?

nice. i don't get such limitiations/luxuries (depending on how you see it), so if there's offensive or repulsive content i see it straight away
granted, i'd only open it if it needs to be flagged, in which case the content won't have been purged yet anyway

I've finally reached my goal of not starring a single message on the starboard
@RedwolfPrograms ?

11:52 PM
@user first time?

Yeah

get good

Most of the time, it's all yellow

everytime i wake up there isn't a spot of yellow to be seen

It's your fault for living on the wrong side of the earth

11:54 PM
@Lyxal It's a good sign that you're sleeping well :P

I have a great idea - all of you should follow the same sleep schedule as me so I don't have to go through the transcript in the morning :P

what time do we collectively fall asleep?

1:00 AM EST

joke's on you, i sleep at ~4 AM EST

Are you one of those people that wake up in the afternoon or are you a vampire?

11:58 PM
i wake up at around 10-11 usually

In any case, synchronizing with my clock is a win-win because I don't have to read other people's messages later and you all get to converse with a highly charismatic and intelligent user
@hyper-neutrino I can't afford such luxuries :(

this week i'll probably be getting up later cuz i finally have a week off

I sleep at between 10PM and midnight, but then my timezone is
UTC+9

@user F

School starts at 9 right now and once it's in person, I'll have to wake up at 6 to get to school on time
