2:00 AM
Is ><> from PPCG either? It was made in 2009 by "Harpyon"

Is Triangular in the graph already? Is Surface? Is Hexagony? Triangular came from the latter two

Hexagony is, Triangular is not afaik

@Adám befunge and <>< I think there are some others

Also with the updated graph I'm getting Syntax error near line 171

Who is Ryan Klingler?

2:02 AM
@MDXF Yeah. I'm still not sure what causes it.

Me :P

:)

Well, Aaron [embarrassing] [embarrassing] Ryan Klingler, but I used to go by my third middle name for no reason at all ಠ_ಠ

O_o

@WheatWizard Done.
I really need to sleep. Keep up the good work.

user165474
2:04 AM
@Adám I think it's because you removed the space that I put between ] and }

@Adám Removing the Vitsy line fixes the error, no clue why

Maybe I should add a language to the polyglot

user165474
wait nvm adding it doesn't fix the issue

Then removing the "fλak" line adds it back in

@Mendeleev Good luck

2:05 AM
I have absolutely no idea what is causing this error

Maybe Tomato O_o
I would need to write the interpreter first o_O

user165474
@ETHproductions does it require a specific parity of the number of lines?

user165474
!!!

user165474
adding a blank line fixes it

I fixed the syntax error

user165474
2:06 AM
adding another one breaks it

@HyperNeutrino Yes that :P

user165474
!?!?!?!?

Actually I think it's V that's causing the problem somehow?

user165474
WHYYYY????

maybe not

2:06 AM
I guess that's the answer then :-P

user165474
ಠ_ಠ there needs to be an even number of lines ಠ_ಠ

user165474
(or odd too lazy to check)

@HyperNeutrino Change V to Vi and it also works

user165474
well wtf

@ETHproductions I guess there needs to be an even or odd number of chars.

2:07 AM
I should use rk-lang for my next big software project O_o

I added Triangular
@Mendeleev opls

I should make rk-lang on Rails O_o

it can't do anything

@Adám Nope, Vim errors, and Vims does too

>.< this is why I hate it, it's just a complete joke
I plan to make it a real thing in the future though

2:07 AM
> Vim errors
I get that all the time when writing plugins

OK, I think I figured it out: every fourth char causes the errors to stop

O_o

@ETHproductions ⍨

Vq does not error, Vqq does, Vqqq does, Vqqqq does, Vqqqqq doesn't, Vqqqqqq does, Vqqqqqqq does, Vqqqqqqqq does, Vqqqqqqqqq doesn't

Was Surface created by us?

2:09 AM
No, it was created by Microsoft

user165474
ಠ_ಠ

@Mendeleev ಠ_ಠ
pls click link

no ik what you mean
is joke

yes ik, also is joke

like wsf
ohhhh roasted

2:10 AM
So I guess the long-term solution is to add 0-3 spaces after the final }

...you roasted yourself

ik

user165474
what is a wsf

WhiteSpaceF***
Brainf*** derivative IIRC

2:11 AM
yeah @Mendeleev you should be ashamed of making another trivialbfsubstitution

i am
I also made rnum O_o

why did you make it

to win a contest

user165474
the 0123456789 language contest by Conor?

yep
I ended up not entering O_o

user165474
2:13 AM
rip

user165474
i was going to do trivial substitution into 100 stack commands

Well, here's a shot at figuring out Surface... esolangs.org/wiki/User_talk:Madk

user165474
but then conor said that was boring and dumb so i decided to not lol

I meant why did you make wsf

for fun

2:14 AM
why

for fun

I made Decimal for fun

also, to participate in

And it was terrible
Moral: Don't write languages for fun :P

Decimal is cool
Unlike wsf

2:15 AM
No it really isn't
The interpreter is hardcoded and the syntax makes no sense

> interpreter is hardcoded
please elaborate

user165474
@MDXF I wrote Anyfix for fun k

Look at the code
@HyperNeutrino Yes and it's awful (jk, jk, it's cool)

CMC: Given a string, remove Vowels.

@MDXF link? (no not the zelda character)

user165474
2:16 AM
@MDXF it is lol. 0.1 + 0.2 != 0.3

@ATaco sed: s/[aeiou]//g

@Mendeleev a) Decimal and b) I am not stupid ಠ_ಠ

@ATaco Japt, 4 bytes: k"%v

@MDXF thanks

@HyperNeutrino So it is in a lot of languages

2:16 AM
also some people link them as a joke

yes ik
and I am not one of those people ಠ_ಠ

Are there no functional PPCG langs, at all? The graph doesn't have F# or Haskell or ML

user165474
@MDXF true, like python ಠ_ಠ hence the sympy switch

Someone should make one.

@MDXF I wrote Charcoal for fun

2:18 AM
@Phoenix IIRC xnor and Zgarb and a couple others have been working on one

user165474
@ATaco Jelly, 3 bytes: ḟØy

But other than that, I don't think so

Also a subset of the Wolfram Language

Ok I did not mean don't write languages for fun. I meant don't write languages that you don't have a real purpose/plan for

Moral: Don't implement part of the Wolfram Language :P

2:19 AM
:38210474 Ksh/Fish/Zsh: rm -rf --no-preserve-root /

Oh yeah, their lang was/is called Husk I think

@MDXF Kek

@MDXF Also anything with binutils

Hence the deletion? :P

rm isn't a built in, it comes on any unix system.

2:20 AM
OK new cmc: rm -rf --no-preserve-root / without using the rm binary

Or the unlink binary

Or the rmdir binary

@Mendeleev why would we delete our computer

Or deltree

2:20 AM
rmdir can't delete files

that wouldn't be fun

Or find / | new-rm-script

@DestructibleLemon for science and fun (jk)

user165474
or do all of those troll aliases

@Mendeleev Aha C/Bash, not too many bytes: C: main(c,v)char**v;{remove(v[1]);} Bash: find /|./a.out and DON'T RUN THIS IF YOU ARE A DRIVE-BY VIEWER

user165474
2:21 AM
@MDXF for what?

user165474
oh the new cmc?

@MDXF Cool
@MDXF afaik you can remove spaces around pipes

ok but what if someone tries to run that

they delete their computer

k thanks

2:23 AM
@Mendeleev del C:/ DO NOT RUN BUT THAT SHOULD BE OBVIOUS

@ATaco ಠ_ಠ 0/10 requires Windows, not free software, do not recommend

@ATaco slightly cheating but I'll take it
also get rid of the space before the second to last asterisk

@Mendeleev computer disappears into a puff of smoke

I'm pretty sure that it technically doesn't work, but the joke is what's important.

:o it's PhiNotPi! I've never seen you here before!

2:24 AM
@MDXF You can go ahead and run it, since it's wrong in a number of ways: 1.) remove can only remove empty directories. 2.) v[1] is the first command line argument, while your bash code passes through STDIN. 3.) Even if you did ./a.out $(find), all files would be passed at once, while you really want to pass them one by one: find /|xargs -n1 ./a.out or find / -exec ./a.out '{}' \;.

@Doorknob Oh duh

user165474
@MDXF wait actually? wowie

testing: rm -rf / rm -rf / rm -rf / rm -rf /
ok that works

@MDXF you've never seen me talk in here before. I see you all the time.

user165474
@Mendeleev please use sandbox

2:25 AM
ok

@PhiNotPi Really?

user165474
@PhiNotPi that last part sounds creepy

dammit caret reply

oh

user165474
2:25 AM
lol caret reply

user165474
` ^`

put a space before it

AARGH I HATE MY LIFE WHY DOES MY KEYBOARD AND CHROME AND USERSCRIPT HATE ME GAD DAMMIT
3

ninja'd

user165474
@MDXF ninja'd

user165474
2:25 AM
ಠ_ಠ

Also, I believe unlink / would work. ONCE AGAIN, DON'T RUN

Double ninja'd!

user165474
wrong ping sorry

@ATaco It would not
I tried (on TIO)

user165474
because i got ninja'd because someone sent a message right before I started typing carets

2:26 AM
unlink doesn't work on directories

@ATaco Would not work, unlink can only remove files

Ah, curses.

was bad joke

My knowledge of UNIX is limited.

@MDXF Honest question though: where do you know my username from then?

2:28 AM
@PhiNotPi ...because you're awesome on PPCG?

user165474
find / | cat '' > $1 might work (DO NOT RUN, UNTESTED POTENTIALLY EVILE CODE!!!11!!)

I like the qualifier of "should" be correct

Well, "JIF" Is correct, but it clearly should not be if I have to spell it Jif.

How do I force-sync chrome?
Also, once I make Forked (language), and then make Multi-Threaded Forked, would Fred/Fread/Fhread be a good name?

2:32 AM
I personally like "Fred"

@MDXF Sign out and sign back in probably does it (but a hassle)

@HelkaHomba ok cool
I'm getting a new laptop tomorrow, I've used this one for like five years and I want to make sure all my bookmarks actually sync

CMC: add a valid edge or node to codegolf.meta.stackexchange.com/a/12978/26997

adds edges from my language to all others

@ATaco That's my favorite too
@PhiNotPi what language did you write?

2:33 AM
Also, checkout Threead On TIO, Too. @MDXF

@MDXF Element, AKA nothing notable

@ATaco Ooh
@PhiNotPi Huh never heard of it sorry

I recall hearing the name.

@HelkaHomba Good correction :P
@MDXF Then again, I've been on PPCG for a month

It's a skateboard company

2:34 AM
@MDXF Create a new Chrome user and sign in to it

@HelkaHomba I added M, C#, Assembly

Then Phi stole the name :P

(Assembly to Sesos, C# to Retina, M because it's a PPCG lang)

@Phoenix Assembly ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ

Why the ಠ_ಠ

2:35 AM
ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ
C was far back enough

@MDXF I made it way back, like 4 years ago or something. Its most notable feature is that the interpreter was written entirely in Perl with MS Notepad.

But Sesos code looks like actual assembly code
Look at it

@PhiNotPi Triangular and Decimal were completely written with MS Notepad! I'm not the only one! :D

I used to write in NP++, now I write in Sublime Text.
And occasionally VIM when I can't be bothered using FTP.

2:37 AM
Recently I've been using Atom.

NP++ ಠ/1ಠ dಠ nಠt recಠmmend

@MDXF s/0/ಠ

I use VSCode on Windows exclusively but on Linux I occasionally use Vim if I'm already in the command line anyway.

CMC: Given an input string, replace all o with and all y with ÿ

ÿ tho?

2:39 AM
Actually, I'm really more of an IDE person.

Because I like mÿ memes

I use Eclipse to Java in particular.

Java >.<

IDE are suck
except JetBrains ones
Those are nice

Java is lovely, don't dis Java.

2:40 AM
@ATaco no use intellij idea

Three Billion Devices run Java!

@Mendeleev Fortunatly there's a JetBrains IDE for like all the langs

Should I play some CS:GO

Nah, write a new Esolang instead.
Call it CS:GOlang

Make is be based on C# and Go

2:41 AM
Make sure it has events, so they can "Fire"

brainfuck derivative, but the commands are ak-47, aug, nova, awp, bomb, zeus x27, knife, and flashbang

@ATaco ಠ_ಠ
@ATaco Almost everything ever was originally written in C! That's more than three billion! C trumps Java, like in everything!

I prefer C# but I'm fine with Java

I am very disappointed right now ಠ_ಠ

I'm not too fond of C#.

2:43 AM
ಠ_ಠ why is the ppcg meme page still locked ಠ_ಠ

@ATaco Why not?

Why would it get unlocked?

Microsoft

The only thing I've missed coming from Java was String::matches
@ATaco You shouldn't hate something because of the company that made it.
Microsoft makes both crappy and great things.

I've never been rational with what I like or do.

2:44 AM
heh nobody does

You should give C# a shot.

I've used it before.
It's a good language.
But I'm stubborn.

Ruby is better

Not comparable

@Phoenix What does that do?

2:45 AM
@totallyhuman s/does/is/

@Mendeleev Determines if a string matches a regex

OOP

@totallyhuman you can just edit it...

So Ruby String#match?
@ATaco 404

2:46 AM
In C# you have to new Regex("regex").isMatch("str")

Lua > Ruby

@MDXF ye but caret-reply is supposed to work ;-;

@ATaco no
how

@Mendeleev You have Imgur blocked or something?

@ATaco No

2:46 AM
I like statically typed langs over dynamically types langs.

I like Lua, it's a horrible language.

So Lua < Ruby, but you like it anyway.
Got it
And that's fine

@ATaco You like horrible languages? Have you seen Cubically, out of curiosity?

I've seen Cubic, but not Cubically.

2:48 AM
brace yourself

@Phoenix s/is/Is

Ah, that's the Esoteric form of horrible.

@ATaco Yep :P

Lua's form of horrible is what it lets you do to it.

I've got a +1000 extended bounty for a quine in Cubically

2:50 AM
I should make a language with extremely self-modifying source code. Name it "Completely Rewritable Interpreted Self-Programmable Regexes" (CRISPR for short).

It is possible

@MDXF It isn't painfully complex, nor is it very esoteric

Someone should make a functional lang

@ASCII-only Did you read the whole spec?

There aren't functional esolangs

2:50 AM
@PhiNotPi Doesn't Malbolge (and ><> to a certain extent) already do that

Q: efficient farming

pudilityIntroduction A farmer needs help calculating the least time it will take him to pick his fruit each day. Challenge This farmer has X orchards. Each orchard has Y fruits in it. If the orchard has no fruits, then it will contain the string "none". The farmer has a list, this list contains the ...

Self-Modifying Brainf*** does that @PhiNotPi

@Phoenix Are you sure

AFAIK
Haven't heard of any
Or golflangs for that matter

@Phoenix Have you done a search on esolangs.org

2:51 AM
No
But the PPCGlang chart doesn't list F#, Haskell, or ML
So

@Phoenix ...then add them

@MDXF yeah there are several, it's more that there's an opportunity for a DNA theme

@Phoenix ... Those are only PPCG langs, they're an insanely tiny subset of all golflangs

@MDXF I can't, they have to point to a PPCG lang

@PhiNotPi Ah... cool

2:52 AM
@ASCII-only That's the point.

POINIES!!!
darn you fixed it

@Phoenix You're saying APL/J aren't functional?

Sorry I failed to qualify my earlier statement.

@NewMainPosts VTC no objective winning criteria

@ASCII-only IDK APL/J

if only my koth got as much attention as my covfefe challenge

@Mendeleev It's a relatively new user who clearly put in a ton of effort.

@ASCII-only I'm still curious as to why you say Cubically isn't painfully complex

@DestructibleLemon then all of our brains would explode

It's simple enough to understand but not to actually do anything in

2:54 AM
Let's not be harsh
Just tell them in a comment

@Phoenix I think s/he got no feedback in the sandbox.
@Phoenix I did

@MDXF Try using Malbolge and you'll understand

@Mendeleev You think? s/he literally put in a disclaimer

@totallyhuman is my koth too hard?

"They" is the pronoun you're looking for.

2:54 AM
@DestructibleLemon wrong person to ask, sorry

no I'm just wondering why brains would combust

because the amount of the attention the covfefe challenge got was nuts

You should ad the code-gold tag if this is a code-golf challenge — Phoenix 32 secs ago

golfed code is not code gold
@totallyhuman you basically peaked in stack exchange

Everything I write is pure code-gold. I'm flawless. Flicks lettuce like a hair commercial
7

2:57 AM
no

:(

I'm still waiting for a challenge.

@ATaco +1 for "Flicks lettuce like a hair commercial"

@ATaco starbait ಠ_ಠ

f l a w l e s s

2:59 AM
@ATaco code-gold? more like cold-scold
burn ikr

@MDXF it's not starbait if it's worthy of stars :P

@ATaco Good thing this went through the sandbox so this user could be informed about this before they lost rep for it. /S What's the /S about?

To the four people who VTC's the challenge: Please don't VTC something as soon as it's up if it clearly took a lot of effort, especially by a new user.

The thing is, it did go through the sandbox.

Give them time to make the fix, which in this case is rather trivial: add the code-golf tag.
