12:00 AM
Population simulation JS
may write a challenge about that

no I am not

12:16 AM
Intermediate
Oh. You have gotten to plotting stuff, didnt you?

yeah the problem is scaling
If I add .1 to I instead of 1
I can't figure out how to scale it right
ideas?

Dynamic scaling?

Dang, strawpoll updated

no
different wobsite
strawpoll.me vs strawpoll.com
for whatever reason the first one didn't pop up in my search bar so I accidentally used .com instead
didn't notice until after that it wasn't just an update, different wobsite

1:03 AM
Apparently no one is answering your poll

I noticed

I am
:D

Someone ping me.

@ATaco OK

I see green.
Maybe I should turn off the userscript.

1:17 AM
How do I make a chatbot?

2
Q: An abundance of integers!

DJMcMayhemAn Abundant number is any number where the sum of its divisors is greater than twice the original number. For example, the divisors of 12 are: 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 12 And summing these results in 28. Since 28 is larger than (12 * 2), 12 is abundant. Note that this does not include "Perfect numbers",...

@MatthewRoh proper way or the taco way?

Taco way

We are at an inpass.
That's TacoBot, he's literally a script ran in the Firefox Console.
Half of him is written in JS, the other half, Lua.

Wait

1:24 AM
@Riker Add green to your strawpoll please.

How come I forget there is a nodejs library for chat

Pfft, Who needs node-JS when you have a Firefox console?
Me, probably.

Pfft
You can run it 24/7 on heroku
By using nodejs
And cancer

TacoBot was written purely to see if I could.
Apparently, I could.
And I really need to learn how to name things.

Name it burrito

1:36 AM
Botrrito?

Uhh
Maybe ATaco + Bot = BoTaco

Or "ABotO"

AtaBot
ATA-Bot
ATaco's Awesome bot.

'I'm just a bot, Don't ya frickin try to know my name'
Thats the name I thought of

"Cuz I've been through the desert on a bot with no name"
"CIBTTDOABWNN"

1:40 AM
lmao
WAIT
I have made the ULTIMATE name
'Null'

'; DROP TABLE users; -- Pwnd
Best name for a bot.

Another name
[CENSORED]

/usr/bot

1:58 AM
@ATaco wait wtf
screenshot?

The UserScript™ makes pings Green.

@DJMcMayhem Your comment gave me an idea. ;)

Fear the Dennis.

@Dennis ping me ples

@Dennis o_O which comment?

2:12 AM
Actually DJ ping me
Or anyone rly

@ChristopherPeart no

@DestructibleWatermelon so meen
Guys the graph bwoke

for my 2d lang, I need some ideas
It is going to be on a circle, where the IP circles around, and can go inward and outward
What kind of operators should I have?

Only xor and %.

wat
wait was @noɥʇʎԀʎzɐɹƆ suspended?

2:22 AM
@ATaco why
also I was thinking the language might be called (o)
because it looks like a disc
and () doesn't really work

It's a shame you can't do range(n). That pesky modulus by zero — DJMcMayhem 42 mins ago

I think I might use a queue

wat
@DestructibleWatermelon ( )

1%0

wat
@DestructibleWatermelon or maybe you could use ⬤ or 💿

2:27 AM
@wat maybe
yeah that looks nice

@ChristopherPeart The colors in your pie chart appear to be backwards. Also, why would something trade soothing red for puke green? o_O

also I was gonna use non-euclidean space

@ChristopherPeart For whatever reason, you can ping yourself. That's best done in the sandbox room though.

instead of C/D = pi, C/(D**2) = constant
that'd be fun

@Dennis Unless you need to reply to yourself for context.

2:29 AM
just to confuse everyone
@Dennis it tends to make you look like you are talking to yourself though
like a crazy person

My father used to say "It's the only way to have an intelligent conversation".
@DestructibleWatermelon The best part about Lobachevskian geometry is the look on people's faces when you tell them the sum of the inner angles of a triangle isn't constant, but always strictly less than 180 degrees.

@DestructibleWatermelon Lobachevskian?

@Maltysen this.

oh, hyperbolic geometry
was lobachev(ski?) the guy who invented it?

2:45 AM
Did you mean to ping me?

._.
yes

I'm destructible, but not a watermelon.
Hyperbolic and elliptic geometry are oftentimes referred to by their respwctive pioneers' names: Lobachevski and Riemann.
That and the theorems regarding the sums of triangles' inner angles are pretty much the only thing I remember from my non-Euclidean geometry course.

3:15 AM
hmm, I have a feeling that a really good answer to the "minimal character set" could take weeks of work in many languages
for example, is let = Turing-complete in Haskell? It's close, but some experimentation has failed to reveal whether parentheses are necessary
most of the subsets I'm looking at are basically small esolangs of their own
what about answers which depend on unproven mathematical hypotheses?

the mov assembly command is turing complete.

on some processors, yes

As is xor.

but it needs a lot more than three characters as it relies on weird addressing modes
printf is also Turing complete (if you use pointers that point at the format string, allowing it to overwrite its internal state as it runs)

Many strange things are strangely TC.

3:31 AM
FerNANDo, anyone?
BTW, is the C preprocessor TC? I've wondered.

Yep.
But I'm not sure why you would use it.
This is BF written in C's pre-processor.

@ATaco Reduce the code size of e.g. compile-time LUTs. You can use order/choas to achieve sane metaprogramming in cpp: chaos-pp.cvs.sourceforge.net/viewvc/chaos-pp/order-pp/example/…

3:51 AM
@EriktheOutgolfer: Jelly is fairly easy to prove Turing complete if you have an unrestricted character set; the easiest proof is to implement the while language using ¿ for while loops (obviously), a list to store the variables, ¦ together with integer literals and + to manipulate the variables, and together with integer literals to write the loop tests
this probably isn't the way to go to minimize the character set though

this is fantastic: i.imgur.com/7ViuzsP.gifv

@orlp do you know what it's called?

@Maltysen hungry hungry humas

4:45 AM
5, 2, 16, 3580 What comes next?

Oh I think
'What' comes next

I think I shouldn't need to ask this but
how do you make a bar graph with more than 8 columns in google docs?

@HelkaHomba is that intended as a puzzle, or is it something you're stuck on?
(i.e. is looking up the answer online something to be avoided or encouraged?)

It's helka, of course it's a puzzle :P

wat
5:02 AM
@Leo you just got outgolfed by Martin Ender on the retina bounty

12, I'm guessing 12 because I might be right.

wat
@orlp Human Hungry Hungry Hippos?

No, Hungry Hungry Humans.

No, Hungry Hungry Humus
@HelkaHomba 17956240

wat
Check out trumpdonald.org

5:05 AM
I'd rather not

@wat my god
I am flagging as obscene :P

wat
@Downgoat yeah it's pretty neat

Idea: iOS app for SE chat

wat
@Downgoat I am already making a desktop app, I cannot figure out the api

> cannto ffigure pit that api
i think you jeoufdj a word :P

wat
5:08 AM
I was typing with my eyes closed\

@wat for auth or chat WS?

wat
both
I don't even think there IS a ruby api

@wat auth is easy enough I can use my current OAuth solution that I use in GH
hard part is cracking WS API but I think @Quill has done that

wat
Who is @Quill

O_O
he helped make parts of cheddar
he used to be an active here but he dissapeared for a while, I guess school
I found really nice websocket API for swift too

wat
5:12 AM
> an active

?

wat
Why not just use phonegap?

is this joke

wat
no
It is electron for phones basically

I thought you hated electron
Well if you're using HTML/CSS on app you might as well do a website

wat
5:14 AM
well, I mean that it might make deveopment of the SE chat app easier because then you can just use the websocket API that SE provides

we can already use with Starscream?
Safari actually has a specific tab to monitor sockets

wat
no need to swift. also afaik you love js

@wat yes for website
you'll end up with a facebook like-app

wat
also apparently someone at my school plugged a usb killer into my computer and that is why i can't use usb devices
i hate my life

you won't be able to use cool native API (or any API) and your app will be slow, look like crap, and be buggy as crap
@wat D: that sucks

wat
5:17 AM
parents dont want to take me to the surplus sale where I got it to get a new one because "I broke it as an excuse to get a new one"

did you throw sheep at him
3

wat
Same with my cracked phone screen apparently
No idea who it was

@wat same happened with my iPad :/

I just soldered my first pcb
I am very proud of myself

:D cool, what does it do?

5:21 AM
I just soldered a header on an RFID module XD

Hello
I actually just soldered a thing to a pcb

But I learnt a nice skill of soldering a header not perpendicular but 15 degrees

was half of a usb cable soldered to power headers on an orange pi zero

lmao

@MatthewRoh why?

5:23 AM
I had nothing to hold the headers

oic it was accidental

when I realised it was tilted, I couldnt fix

How does one desolder a header

My skills are getting better tho

@Downgoat Correct!

5:23 AM
do you have a desoldering pump?

nah

no desoldering stuff yet

@HelkaHomba :D

but I'm planning on buying a wick

wat
5:24 AM
@Downgoat I have the file "se-chatty.rb" from somewhere but it goves me errir
gives me error

@wat wait so you are familiar with SE's WS?
can you tell me what weird base-64 is in "wss://chat.sockets.stackexchange.com/events/1/ea95d48070594fa4b228a9c73d7a5d18?‌l=68583996"

wat
@Downgoat not really
also that looks like hex

shit same thing

@Downgoat How did you figure it out?

@HelkaHomba well I noticed it looks familiar like the vertical series of the powers of 5
can someone come into a sandbox and post some messages (and edit some)?:

Sandbox

Where you can play with chat features (except flagging) and ch...

5:30 AM
I still don't understand the answer

@HelkaHomba That link doesn't work for me

@DJMcMayhem I had to click "remove this message"

@DJMcMayhem Python code is for i in range(1,30):print('{:>30}'.format(5**i))

I still don't get it >_>

5:33 AM
@DJMcMayhem read each column downwards, you'll notice that they recur

starting at the right all 5's, then 2's, then 161616..

that is really interesting series though
you should make challenge out of it

I might

I thought it was 5, 12, not 5, 2 <_<
I get it now, that's cool

this is interesting way to check if a number is a power of n

5:35 AM
Good night all!

g'night .o/

wat
gn

@wat context please :P

@HelkaHomba @Downgoat This is relevant and interesting: books.google.com/…

Ugh, it's not 10:00PM so I can't do I homework yet...
@DJMcMayhem >_> totally didn't see

5:41 AM
12 messages moved to Sandbox
:35570812 Was just about to, had to move from mobile

@DJMcMayhem oh >_>
Random Question: do you use iphone or android

Android (Google pixel)

@StackExchangeAppTest for OAuth you need an oauth server, just spin one up and give ChatExchange that token
@StackExchangeAppTest D: then iOS app will not work

@Downgoat Android for life
Just logged in to say that

@wat Please no bots/socks in TNB.

5:42 AM
My 6th grade teacher used to say: "I don't need your sorrow I need your compliance"

@DJMcMayhem Noice, how's Google Assistant? Forget that, how's Nougat?

7 messages moved to Sandbox

No idea how to authenticate with OAuth so I am using this account. When I figure it out I will instantly switch to main account
heyyy you just removed legitimate messages

If they're legitimate messages, why not use your real account?

@StackExchangeAppTest ... or just open up your browser
please use sandbox for testing your bot

5:44 AM
Because I am testing the Stack Exchange App

@KritixiLithos It's awesome, but I'm not sure how much of an improvement it is over recent OS's since my last phone was on 4

Not trying to create a bot. I am writing a desktop app for SE chat

@StackExchangeAppTest The keyword here being testing

I thought KitKat was newest version ._.
@StackExchangeAppTest you realize you can test in sandbox

ugh whatever I'll try another way

wat
5:45 AM
I just stopped the client

Thankyou
@KritixiLithos Is google assistant the "OK Google, please XYZ..."? Like the google equivalent of Siri?

Yes, but Google Assistant > Siri

If that's what you mean, I love it. (I'm just not entirely sure about the terminology)

That's what they called it in the October 4 madebygoogle event

There's a lot of things I really like about it that stand out more because my last phone was so old.

5:47 AM
@KritixiLithos ಠ_ಠ Google Assistant does not give you funny answer when you say "will you marry me" like Siri

For example, fingerprint scanner, android >4, Google assistant, a decent processor

@Downgoat But Google Assistant makes great puns

you should actually be able to do swift for android because android is based on linux and swift does linux
> The Swift stdlib can be compiled for Android armv7 targets, which makes it possible to execute Swift code on a mobile device running Android
:O

@DJMcMayhem You mean android version 4 (kitkat/jellybean)? That's old

Yeah, Samsung likes keeping their users in the stone ages

5:48 AM
@DJMcMayhem stones usually don't spontaneously combust

Battery's also quite a bit better. My last phone would never last the full day until I bought a big ugly third party batter that lasted like 3 days. My current battery very rarely runs out in the evening

@Downgoat You can also do C/C++ on Android (using NDK)

For example, I haven't charged my phone since this morning, and it's at 37% right now (10:50 PM here)

But also the Pixel charges quickly

Oh yeah, the fast charge? It's very nice
Overall, I'm most impressed with the attention to detail, and the minor UI things

5:51 AM
Goddammit, I just spent like two months getting the hang of iOS dev
now everyone is Android :(

I'm not
...yet

@MistahFiggins PLEASE HELP BETA TEST GITHUB APP

apple has acquired more than a few worms

@Downgoat That's certainly not a new thing

@Downgoat Sure. How?

5:53 AM
do you have xcode?

Dunno what that is... so probably no

RProgN 2 is now actually Turing Complete.
Yay.

@MistahFiggins oh, do you have a mac?

And the compiler isn't terrible, too.
It's basically a miracle.

what language did you code RProgN in?

wat
6:00 AM
How to login to stack exchange with google openid programmatically?

RProgN, The First Verson is Lua.
RProgN 2 is Java.

What a ride.

Basically I only write languages in languages that make people cry.

I like Lua.

Darn

6:01 AM
@wat I think best way is to just use SE OAuth

RProgN 2 actually features a sort of Compiler, instead of just trying to interpret chunks of string.

wat
But hten how would people who only have googel oauth on their accounts (like me) log in?

@wat it would likely bring you to the SE login page where it would just give you the client ID regardless of the user's login option

wat
@Downgoat ...what
Where do I POST the data?

Someone write a BF interpreter in Magic the Gathering.

6:04 AM
you get a client ID and you post that to SE's OAuth endpoint to get your auth key

wat
@Downgoat where do I cliient ID?

you get a client ID from the oauth auth page
the user interacts with that page

wat
I don't have a webview or anything

you are making command line app right?
because SE Oauth uses google OAuth so if you don't want to add GUI you have to do double OAuth
kinda like windows' UAC

wat
no, I am making a GTK app

6:12 AM
@Downgoat nope.

oh :(
@MistahFiggins are you OK if I ping you later this week asking if you'd like to be beta tester of GH app?

6:24 AM
I was about to post Unlimited binary adder, when I ran across an older question Implementing binary arithmetic. Would my question be a dupe?

@Downgoat sure thing. I'm on break this week, so works for me

wat
@Downgoat can you please make me beta tester?

you have full access to repo already ._.
you can just clone and plugin phone
actually lemme push latest version. I added cool things such as finishing user profile screen and sorting
Model-View system is also really cool

wat
Remember, usb killer
cannot plugin phone

oh no D:
so is entire computer broken or just USB port

wat
6:37 AM
i might just get a usb express card
just usb ports
That would even give me usb3 (laptop only has usb2 rn)

ok well first I have to buy $100 apple developer license, and then I can do OTA

wat
oic

@wat Can confirm works great. Did the same thing to a 2009 laptop.

wat
> 2009
that would have pcmcia, no?

Yeah.

wat
6:39 AM
different things. this is just pcie in a card

Uh no.
PCMCIA is Express Card. I used this one: amazon.de/CSL-PCMCIA-Express-Windows-Notebook/dp/B008BHN6MI

btw @wat your chat profile says you're a guy but your profile picture shows you as giant duck, which one do I believe

Which is the same thing with a different label.

wat
Um, no
ExpressCard, initially called NEWCARD, is an interface to connect peripheral devices to a computer, usually a laptop computer. The ExpressCard technical standard specifies the design of slots built into the computer and of expansion cards to insert in the slots. The cards contain electronic circuits and sometimes connectors for external devices. The ExpressCard standard replaces the PC Card (also known as PCMCIA) standards. ExpressCards can connect a variety of devices to a computer including mobile broadband modems (sometimes called connect cards), IEEE 1394 (FireWire) connectors, USB connectors...
In computing, PC Card is a configuration for computer parallel communication peripheral interface, designed for laptop computers. Originally introduced as PCMCIA, the PC Card standard as well as its successors like CardBus were defined and developed by the Personal Computer Memory Card International Association (PCMCIA). It was originally designed as a standard for memory-expansion cards for computer storage. The existence of a usable general standard for notebook peripherals led to many kinds of devices being made available based on its configurability, including network cards, modems, and hard...

Those are huge oneboxes

6:42 AM
@wat The one you linked is clearly the same product as the one I used.

wat
@mınxomaτ was talking about pcmcia vs express card

ExpressCard
> Year created 2003
Yep, then it was ExpressCard. Still, the product page says PCMCIA.

wat
ok
afaik pc card uses ISA and PCI bus and then ExpressCard uses PCIe bus and USB
Oh yeah! @mınxomaτ
> ExpressCard is a later specification from the PCMCIA, intended as a replacement for PC Card, built around the PCI Express and USB 2.0 standards. The PC Card standard is closed to further development and PCMCIA strongly encourages future product designs to utilize the ExpressCard interface.

Huh

wat
> This acronym was difficult to say and remember, and was sometimes jokingly referred to as "People Can't Memorize Computer Industry Acronyms"

6:51 AM
To be fair, that's mostly the computer industry's fault. Even the companies themselves are named things like IBM and AT&T.
