Oh, I don't game on both at once. "Fullscreen" is one full screen imo.
@El'endiaStarman The poster of this question asked a mod to close the question for now.
Or it just needs one more close vote, I think.
@Poke Love the Razer DeathAdder! Such a great mouse!
@mbomb007 I appreciate the fact that you thought I could mod-hammer that question. :P
16:04
@El'endiaStarman You can't?
@mbomb007 No, I'm a mod on Christianity.SE, not PPCG. :P
Oh right. It's weird how chat.SE shows all mods as blue, not just site mods.

@Fatalize Lynn can also be a male name.
Do we know if @Lynn is female or not?
Elendia sounds like a female name to me (but I know otherwise)

I’m a girl.
@NathanMerrill It has happened that I basically got hit on by some Spanish-speaking guy (though I didn't really recognize it as such at the time).
That was more than 6 years ago, I think.
Your use of a fake name is kinda weird.
@NathanMerrill The "last name" is Starman :D
lol
@mbomb007 I didn't realize the entire Anderson population was male
16:28
@Maltysen I actually didn't know anything about tensors, but I just did some reading on wikipedia. Metric tensors are by definition symmetric bilinear forms, and we use them to measure "angles" like with a scalar product. If it was not symmetric, the angle between a and b would be different from the angle between b and a, but this would be very inconvenient, would it? And if it wasn't symmetric that would mean that the induced norm could have negative values, which is also quite inconvenient.
That is probably why it is defined that way=)
all you guys talking about tensors makes me want to read Brandon Sanderson
Mistborn?
@NathanMerrill Why?
@NathanMerrill Yes, I love Brandon Sandersons books!
@Emigna Did you read the two sequels of the trilogy with Wax and Wayne? They are hilarious=)
no, steelheart
@flawr yep!
@flawr I haven't no, but I need some new books now so I'll add those to my list :)
@Emigna do you have a goodreads account?

@TheveryevilROFLcopter I'm glad that we can still use the lumberyard materials for manned spacecrafts in the case of a widespread viral infection.

@Geobits @TimmyD Yeah I think I'll let people take that list as an input to save on byte count. I'll try to find said list on Google before I post it so there's a common one for everyone to use.
Well, wikipedia's list seems like it'd work en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_time_zones_by_country Could be formatted anyway you want.

Q: Difficulty with the yellow blocks in the cube,i need some help

Didier Vinck I need some help, trying for middle layer but only blocks with yellow in top layer, everyone has yellow. What is a good move to complete the middle part

Jeez, maybe I should change my name on here to look more obviously female but then combined with the avatar changes everyone would lose track of what happened to Lynn. °–°;
@NewMainPosts ._________________.
Also of course having to resort to that is kind of sad. Same problem I have with the more sensible idea of “putting my pronouns on my profile to stop people from assuming I’m male by default”: it’d be just, the saddest thing
@mbomb007 Yes. I enjoy it very much :]
@mbomb007 lolwut? I guess any name can be gender neutral but I've never heard/seen a male "Lynn"
(Un)surprisingly I’ve never heard anyone ask wait, are we sure such-and-such is male?
17:10
Well in a text chat, we are only what we tell everyone we are.
Wait... are we sure Geobits is male?
For all I know, you all could be AI. Even @Poke, and I've met him.
It's well know that you are an AI
@Yodle Are you implying my gender?
I'll have you know I identify as an attack helicopter
Sorry, I meant I met zim.

I assume it's just pointing out the float-used-as-currency thing.
@betseg Some words are similar to french
17:47
Maybe it's not a float and they just like being very accurate.
For example: kredi kartı
There are only 2.0000000000000004 types of people in the world: those who understand floating point and those who don't.

Isn't kredi karti a transliteration/loanword though? It makes sense it would be similar.

Wait
I think I found why the bot is so stupid
Because Ruby's String#lines method add \n at the end of each string for a weird reason
Probably because a newline is what makes it a line instead of just a string.
@Fatalize Thanks :) I particularly liked the number of different approaches that people used, which was more than I was expecting
My shortest universal maze exit string challenge is similarly open ended (unlikely to be solved optimally) but that one seeks a shortest valid output rather than a longest valid output.
@Lynn This is the Internet. Where men are men, women are men, and little children are FBI agents.
18:19
@Lynn To calculate how surprised we are, you can use the formula -log("# known female PPCGers" / "# PPCGers with known gender")
@PhiNotPi Now I'm actually really curious what that works out to.
Negative infinity? Ah, log to stdout
(Actually is a logarithm)
@udioica Many challenge authors ask in the sandbox before posting the final version of a challenge, to get feedback on what would work best, including what test cases to use. If you let them know there about any test cases that could be different, with reasons, it's a lot easier for them to make major changes there, before the challenge is posted to main.
Ah
So it's negative infinity
18:22
Surely it's undefined, if you want to be pedantic :P
Wait no negative infinity is because ruby being stupid
can we make a challenge out of this?

Q: Implement the Game of Life on Anything but a Regular Grid

Helka HombaConway's Game of Life is (almost) always played on a regular square grid, but it doesn't need to be. Write a program that implements the standard cell neighboring rules from Conway's Game of Life on a two-dimensional tiling of the Euclidean plane that is not a regular tiling of squares, triangle...

@mbomb007 ehh
I meant more a challenge which requires programs to generate this tiling
It seems to have concentric "circles" so you could take an input N and output that many of the circles
18:32
@Geobits I don't see any
Or you could have a challenge about traversing it somehow
oh wait
now I do
the light blue circle is flipped
I assume that's what the dots are
I believe
@mbomb007 I don't know any Lynn's at all!
18:33
@Yodle That's rude. We have one here :P
Well besides that one :P
Me too, I don't know any Lynn (except obviously the Lynn here)
@mbomb007 Actually, me, too.
I feel like Lynn is one of those names that's short for something, but I don't think it is.
Could even have a challenge to just output the number of tiles in the Nth ring, if you can define what counts as a single ring of tiles
18:36
@Yodle It's short for a few things in some cases, but not always. Leonard and Linda come to mind right off, but I think Leonard is usually abbreviated Len instead.
can the tiling be extended any further?
@Yodle It can be short for Lynae (Lin-ay) for a girl. Idk about guys, though... Lyon is a character in Final Fantasy XII, Revenant Wings for DS. Lyonell (or Lionell) is another that's close.
Like Lex Luthor's dad in Smallville
Ah okay. It's a pretty cool name now that I think about it, doesn't have a,e,i,o,u in it, probably not many names that only use y as a vowel.
Unless you start doing exotic names like sdjlkgjdfsh
Where I live (Belgium) it is pretty common. In the Netherlands, it’s very common
@Yodle Whoops, wrong game. Lyon is a character from Fire Emblem: Sacred Stones. Not Final Fantasy
@Yodle Cy?
18:41
@PhiNotPi it wouldn't be a tiling oterhwise
@mbomb007 Yeah there are a few others, PJ comes to mind

The best way is to choose "he" or "she" randomly, and if possible to use both in the same sentence while referring to the same person so that people don't get confused from seeing too small o a sample that only contains one or the other

@Geobits I see you upgraded to three downvotes in your avatar...
I was taught in school that they was exclusively for multiples, so I have a hard time using it singularly :(
@trichoplax A single downvote isn't spooky enough :D
@Yodle Yeah, lots of schools teach wrong things :/
19:38
@Geobits Oh, you changed your avatar
English teachers have been trying to stamp out that usage for several centuries
Kinda like ending with a preposition. It just keeps hanging on.

But why?
Because
Dammit ninja'd
To be fair, the "no starting conjunction" rule makes sense as a guideline for kids learning how to write complete sentences. It just shouldn't be taught as a permanent rule.
I don't know, I still try not to, but I have done it in papers in college and haven't had anything bad happen so shrug
@Geobits I feel like maybe some teachers overgeneralize so that they don't have to complicate things for young kids, but I'm not a teacher so I have no idea.

Violet can only be with red+blue, which are on opposite sides
@betseg Depends on your definition of "color" more than anything.
@betseg I think you're confusing violet with purple
^ violet is definitely a pure color
Not roses violets violet, the violet that is used today
19:43
Geobits changed their avatar; apocalypse confirmed?
@quartata Tis the season and all that nonsense.
@Geobits It's just really dumb how you can't open an existing project, you have to create a new one and then copy it over

19:44
@DJMcMayhem Import?
@DJMcMayhem ... Yes you can open an existing project
@Geobits Import has to copy the whole folder over
@trichoplax hahahaha
But if you want to code in Java, use a true IDE like Netbeans or IntelliJ
@TheveryevilROFLcopter Not without making a copy and breaking mercurial
@DJMcMayhem Well... that's how I'd want import to work 99% of the time I'm importing something.
I would normally want import to make a copy... but I'm pretty sure that's opt-in for eclipse
normally it will just link it to your workspace somehow
i think
Yeah, but hg is tracking the folder one level above
is there a hg plugin for eclipse?
So is your problem with eclipse or with mercurial :P
@TheveryevilROFLcopter I'm using C. Texas Instruments thought it would be a fantastic idea to bundle their compilers and their shitty eclipse knockoff
@DJMcMayhem You can't compile on an other IDE?
@Geobits my real problem is with TI

@MitchSchwartz Well, there will be "new bodies", so it's not clear what that means relative to that.
I used to wonder if they had computers in heaven and why we couldn't talk to them when I was younger
@MitchSchwartz Maybe you should ask on Christianity.SE
I once asked in a large class if there would be co-creation in Heaven. Apparently a lot of students heard "procreation".

@Downgoat Why do you delete some of your esolangs? (Example: CandidateScript)
@TheveryevilROFLcopter Ah I see. Unfortunately not quite enough of The Block gets reposted in TNB for me to get the joke... :P
This is a lot of rep
20:33
@El'endiaStarman and youtube.com/watch?v=FXfrncRey-4
Well, that was kinda random. :P Seriously, I can't think of any place where the Bible definitely says one way or the other. That said, the design of Man and Woman, including stuff like the fundamental attributes/tendencies and their typical role in life (i.e., if a child trips and falls, they typically run to Mom, not Dad, since she's the nurturer and caretaker, whereas the father is a protector and provider, stuff like that) is so integral to the Bible and God's creation that I can't imagine that gender would be totally absent in Heaven.
1
Q: Do we retain our gender in Heaven?

Jim G.The Bible tells us repeatedly that our earthly actions will impact our ability to enter the gates of Heaven. Some Biblical passages say that our earthly actions can improve or lessen our experience of Heaven if we are in fact lucky enough to reach it. With that being said, I conclude that we mus...

@mbomb007 That's a similar issue. I can't think of any place where the Bible specifically says that we shall create things like God does in Heaven, but on the other hand, a huge part of our identity as human is that we are creators also (contrast with how Satan and his underlings are described in destructive terms).

@El'endiaStarman Yeah, the answer/talk that occurred when I asked that question was essentially that when Adam and Eve were put in the garden, one of their tasks was to develop culture and technology. I think this is something that is normative and will continue in Heaven. Similarly, I think the technology we've created may be seen in Heaven, but without any of our sinful tendencies, purposes, or imperfections present.
Anyways, that's a topic more suited to C.SE
2
@mbomb007 That's the way I think of technology in Heaven too.
