Hell, my password would be AAAAAA, where the second and last "A" is cyrillic

just remember the alt codes
like alt+0160 is a space

<---- I want to achieve this effect in javascript

copy it from another website
they usually use a gif

@Poke @CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ You can't enter ASCII characters without numpads

7:01 PM
sure you can
num lock is your friend

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ 1.: What's the fun in that, 2.: It's not actually hard to accomplish this, 3.: GIFs are evil, and eat our souls

¯\_(ツ)_/¯ ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ I don't want my websites to look like something out of the 80s

@Bálint I enter ASCII characters without a numpad all the time. I just did it.

@TimmyD I don't have a numlock
Do I have anything useful on this keyboard?

How are you typing if you're not entering ASCII characters?

maybe he's typing in cyrillic

Ooo, and they just look ASCII

7:06 PM

yep

I still don't have a numlock though
(Psst, Is there anyone, who has the disapproval face on his clipboard?)

The Kannada alphabet (IAST: Kannaḍa lipi) is an abugida of the Brahmic family, used primarily to write the Kannada language, one of the Dravidian languages of South India especially in the state of Karnataka, Kannada script is widely used for writing Sanskrit texts in Karnataka. Several minor languages, such as Tulu, Konkani, Kodava, Sanketi and Beary, also use alphabets based on the Kannada script. any more takers before I accept this?

Weird. I thought Canada used the latin alphabet >_>

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ yes, lemme drop a tip to doorknob
he can tie

@Bálint Is that Kannadian?

@Maltysen okay, cool

@trichoplax yes

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ oh, issacg already commented
and it wouldn't matter anyway, cuz matl would still have the earlier time

@Bálint At least in Active Directory, they (shouldn't) matter.
> Note: Space characters do not fall under any of these five groups and do not count towards the password complexity requirements.

7:14 PM
@TimmyD That doesn't mean I can't insert them in

oh well. and since jelly has answered, I guess that's that :p

@Bálint True, but I have no idea if that means they're stripped out or not. Additionally, does ZWS count as a space character? Who knows.

ಠಗಠ
I just found this character

And then it would depend upon what version of Windows you're authenticating against.

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ Weird. My rep is 404*3*11+11 >_>

@Geobits Is that really weird?

Depends on your definition. I'm the only one out of 30k+ users with that exact rep, so maybe it is weird.

@wizzwizz4 It's only 11 away from a multiple of 404, while a random number is expected to be about 101 away.

@PhiNotPi ...
That's still not very weird.
Statistically, there'll be many, many people with such a reputation score.

Yes, but only one with that score. Me :P
It's much rarer than some scores, like 1 or 101 >_>

7:36 PM
@Geobits Hmm...................................... We could downvote all the people above you until they get to it.

Good luck fighting the serial script ;)

@Himarm2017 yes

It gets me sometimes even when I'm voting the "right" way.

@trichoplax In here, even if there is a button for floor 401 in elevators.. it won't allow you to press it.

Q: Calculator Program

Drew ChristensenBackground John wants a calculator. His Internet is dead slow (so he can't type it into a Google Search) and he dislikes the Windows Calculator. He also dropped his TI-73 and it won't work anymore. He needs a calculator program to be able to parse the 'simple' operators such as *, /, +, -, as we...

HadesHeraldOk, I'm freaking out a little here guys. I just woke up in the middle of London with a gun. I'm pretty sure I've landed in Earth-16 but I don't know if that is true. I have 1,000 £ in cash as well as this computer and some very important looking documents. I know I need at least a few things:...

@Optimizer Actually not, he creates an avocado smoothie, not juice

how to juic and avocad?

Maybe it would be on lifehacks

He is either trying to roleplay (which doesn't work on SE at all, try reddit) or ask a confusing question.
@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ ...

To SE Swag Designer-in-Chief: Can I request that PPCG t-shirts be done on a black background, regardless of the site theme?

7:49 PM
@Himarm2017 Not at all. Black t-shirts are just more useful in general, since they go with almost anything better than any other color.

@HadesHerald - Good question. Not here. Maybe Quora or Yahoo Answers? Writers:SE might be able to help if you can tighten up the question but I'm guessing you're less interested in writing a fan-fic and more interested in general discussion. We have a chatroom but I suspect it would be too fast-moving for you. Perhaps ComicVine forums? — Valorum 41 mins ago

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ But spring, autumn, winter.

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ I'm not sure what that has to do with it. I live in Florida and still prefer dark shirts in summer :P

7:50 PM
Reversible - black on one side and white on the other for summer (or maybe even silver)

I'd be interested in seeing the actual results of that experiment, but I've literally never noticed a difference in heat between fabric colors. The actual material used matters far more in any case.

I agree.

Why aren't there any challenges tagged with ?

I was joking about the reversible idea - I'm pretty sure a silver coating would be horrible in both hot and cold weather

It's right there on the meme thing anyway.

@Geobits Such important facts always stick in the mind :)

@Himarm2017 No, I checked, it was alex

@Geobits What other things are you trolling?

8:00 PM
@Poke Compact, detachable keyboard

@Geobits okay
@Bálint ... i really don't think so?
he removed it thoguh

@flawr Unfortunately, no trolling involved :(

@flawr yes

Alex may have trolled something with a yingluck tag later for some reason, but it was definitely doorknob that started it.

but I support Himarm's quest for mod 2017
#himarmformod2017
@flawr plannign on changing back in a bit

8:03 PM
How often can you chang the name?

Very often >_>
I went through a dozen or so in a week not long ago.

@flawr Once every 30 days per site - so if you have 30 sites you can change every day

@Bálint
> To SE Swag Designer-in-Chief: Where the hell are your designers?
ftfy

To be honest, I don't necessarily care if it's black, but I'd very much prefer a dark background.

TBH, I want a shirt at all.

8:08 PM
I guess, but I don't want one I won't really wear :/

lets say you have a perfect maze (generated using a standard generator, like Prim's) where the ends can be anywhere (not necessarily at the ends). How should you traverse the maze so you can find the escape the fastest (on average)?

> "Ford cautiously stepped out from behind the bank of computers, and at first, there were no frogs. Then, suddenly and without warning, there were still no frogs."

Regarding designs, are there any news about the ppcg design?
I think the 6-8 weeks are over by now.

Yep, coming in November.
That's what I've heard (from a reliable source), and Optimizer confirmed he heard the same.

Did anyone already get a peek on what it will look like?

8:13 PM
I haven't. I don't think they usually do previews, but maybe the mods know. Doubt it though.

@flawr 6-8 weeks are forever

so, you guys mentioned PPCG t-shirts? are those a thing?

@Bálint you don't have a Fn key combination or something funky?

> where the ends can be anywhere (not necessarily at the ends).
@NathanMerrill Wha?

bah, can't edit

8:16 PM
@aditsu please use the correct terminology: swag

I mean "not necessarily at the corners"

but yeah, I was wondering too

@Geobits 404 not found.

swag includes more stuff

gaws?

8:17 PM
Well we could make our own, and then upload them to some of those websites, where you can purchase custom designs.

@flawr or we could wait till SE gives us ours for free :P

I thought only the very top few get them for free?

@flawr top 72 (top 2 pages)

@flawr that's like fapping, not quite the same..

._.

8:18 PM
^

@Maltysen really?

@aditsu What do you mean, fapping, you mean masturbation?

in grandpa terms, yes

@aditsu IIRC, but ask more authoritative sources to make sure
\o/ i'm on first page

@aditsu So what has masturbation to do with t-shirts?

8:20 PM
@flawr If you have to ask...

@flawr you know, after you. . . finish

@flawr you're doing it by yourself

྾_྾

but I like those other answers too :)
@Maltysen whew, top 20

Well then I'm probably never gonna get what you're talking about.

8:22 PM
@NathanMerrill Couldn't you just use Prim's (slightly modified to account for the already-existent maze) to get out? Prim's is pretty dang speedy.

@flawr ugh, if I have to explain it.. making your own design and then buying it is kinda like putting your own hand on your Trumpie and stroking it

Oh, is Trumpie what the cool kids are calling it now?

@TimmyD not really. The problem with Prim's is that it "searches" at different locations

I don't kn... I mean yeah, I'm definitely cool :)

aka, if there are two paths, and you search down one
you have to go back to search down the other

8:25 PM
Do you have something to mark paths with?

@aditsu pfff, if you think that way, it is even worse if somebody else is doing it^^

you have a perfect memory @Geobits
and a GPS
so, yes

bro, do you even sex? :p

Satellite imagery? That could help immensely ;)

lol
for example, lets say the path you are on is approaching a point you've already been (you are making a loop with a section of undiscovered area in the center)
is it better to search in the center, or to search outwards?

8:28 PM
So you think the t-shirts designed by some random SE guy are better than the ones that come from within the community????

@flawr By a professional designer? Well, most likely. They do good work from what I've seen so far.

@flawr honestly, looking at our attempt to make a site design, yes

lets say that the end point has a 5% chance of being in the center. If you search it, you have 95% chance of backtracking (but its a short backtrack), but if you don't search it, you have a 5% of a long backtrack

@Nathan Do you know where the end is, or are you just trying to explore everything until you find it?

I mean the tshirt usually isn't much more than the logo on a solid bg

8:29 PM
@Geobits you don't know where it is

@NathanMerrill Well, yeah. I don't know of a way to not do backtracking. I mean, a dead-simple DFS is probably as fast as you could get (on average).

you do know the size of the maze though

Hmm. Can you get much better than a basic DFS then?

@Geobits Ninjavocado'd

I mean, a DFS is definitely the best worst-case
but is it the best average case?

8:30 PM
@flawr who designs them is not the most important thing, but who gets them made and how you get them

@NathanMerrill Throw it in the simulator-o-matic and find out.

@aditsu i'm trying to decide if this is some weird innuendo again, but I can't think of anything

I need a different algorithm to compare it to :)

paying to get your own t-shirt made is different from getting a t-shirt from the site as a recognition for something

right now, I only have DFS

8:31 PM
@Maltysen if anything, it's not intended :p

@NathanMerrill Well there's wall following, but I'm fairly certain DFS will beat that.

isn't wall following DFS?
er, only for perfect mazes

@aditsu And free is better than paid ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

sure ^_^

@NathanMerrill Well, you did say that it was a perfect maze.

8:32 PM
true

Given that it's a perfect maze, it doesn't really matter whether the exits are at the corners or not, since it's a simple tree anyway.

@NathanMerrill parallel BFS :)

I don't see how that piece of info does anything to any potential algorithms.

@aditsu Well most people here will not get one for free, and I read somewhere that you cannot buy SE stuff anymore...

@aditsu Bring along a cloning machine, and generate a new copy of yourself at every intersection to come across? Ingenious.

8:34 PM
@flawr well, that's the whole point, you need to win it

@TimmyD Just don't forget to carpet bomb the maze once a clone makes it out, to destroy the failures.

@TimmyD the real question is, is it really you who finds the exit?

How lame.

I like my SO mug/shirt because I won them. If I could buy one, I probably wouldn't have even bothered.

carrot

8:36 PM
@TimmyD you have slightly more information than with a tree. You can make predictions for how long a particular branch is

@Geobits Poor mug. They have feelings too. Now you destroyed it's self esteem.

@flawr I sincerely hope they don't have feelings. I'd feel much worse about pouring scalding liquids into it.

so, if you have a choice between two branches, A and B, and the number of nodes in A is larger than B, which one should you search first?

@Geobits They're not failures, they're more like the difference between nobles and poors. The one wins, who was born with the best chance

@NathanMerrill Oh, I see ... you're saying you could take your GPS coordinates and somehow weight the branches as you come across them.

8:37 PM
does it matter?
yes

Doing that would probably improve your average case over straight DFS

@Bálint My way makes me feel more morally sound. "Destroy the disadvantaged" just doesn't have the same ring to it.

@Geobits Your sentence would be true, if every clone would start from the...start and would actually have something similarity to his parent

It feels like you'd want to always choose the path that has potential for more branches.

8:39 PM
@TimmyD I agree, but I can't be sure, because longer branches means a longer walkback

@NathanMerrill so anyway, BFS can work, or you can try something like iterative deepening DFS

backtrack*

@NathanMerrill Well, sure, but you'd get that with dead simple DFS like wall-following anyway.
On average it should be faster.

ok, lets say I have two branches, both of them a single straight path
the first one is of length 20
the second of length 5

8:41 PM
OK, but you don't have any idea that it's a single straight path.

hmmm, I was making a simplification
but you are right
I can't make that one
@aditsu BFS doesn't work, we require backtracking if you hit a dead end (no teleporting in our maze)

Ok, for this setup you need some supplies: many cats and a trash bag. Each time you come to a fork, release cats and violently thrash the bag around so they run in each direction. Wait until cats return, and collect them. Follow the path from which no cat returned.

Cat-first-search
4

@Geobits O(n^2) in claw marks

@NathanMerrill I didn't know that, IDDFS then

8:43 PM
(presuming there are no traps in the maze)

@Geobits I'm wondering why the cats are returning after so much thrashing
@aditsu IDDFS still has teleporting for each iteration

@NathanMerrill I'm working under the assumption that cats are dumb, and will turn around at dead ends.

@NathanMerrill I think it works because of the same reason that social networks work. On average, your friends have more friends than you do.

@NathanMerrill no, you just backtrack when you reached the current depth, and then start over

@Geobits Or just sit and stare at the wall.

8:44 PM
I still think that DFS will do better, because we don't have any memory constraints :)

DFS can spend a lot more time exploring a dead-end

anyways, I think you are right @TimmyD thanks :)

@Himarm2017 My bad, thanks

@TimmyD Slightly modified, then. Bring some food/water with you. Eventually they will need to come back. This may not be fast in the time sense, but you should save some backtracking.

Monring

8:46 PM
monking

@Geobits So it's for lazy people. Dijkstra's algorithm with cats.

@NathanMerrill if the exit is 2 steps to the right, but you go left first and spend 1 million steps with no result, IDDFS can save you that trouble

@HelkaHomba I had an idea, make @Upgoat an exception in your language

@Bálint up/down goat are already max/min

@aditsu true, but the chances of it being 2 steps to the right are small.

8:47 PM
well, feel free to work out which one is better in the average case, I'm not gonna try to calculate that :p

@HelkaHomba ahhh :(

@Optimizer well, cheekily as ~ ass ~ donkey ~ llama, but you can be something else
@aditsu @Bálint @NathanMerrill have a request? (Otherwise I'll assign you myself)

now that just on the spot coming up with something

@HelkaHomba yes, please do a little dance

@Optimizer Well I don't want to ping and ask everyone. Most people wont care

8:56 PM
if you want me to choose a keyword, I'll take "class"

very classy

I also use java

A: Sandbox for Proposed Challenges

TimmyDTriangulation (title suggestions welcome) code-golf Given two tuples of the form [(a point in x,y coordinates), (a direction in degrees)], output the corresponding third x,y coordinate where the vectors intersect. This was just real-quick to get my thoughts down. I'll update and expand this.

@Geobits They have these nice speckled grey shirts though.

@Geobits I'm thinking "not"

@Geobits nope
@PhiNotPi not is not taken. Go for it

@MartinEnder If it's the darker variety that would be good too.
