12:25 AM
can someone here view one of my blog pages real quick? I'm trying get my view counter working again: blog.phinotpi.com/2016/06/05/…
and let me know if you do

yeah

:30147470 I can't see anything wrong but I refreshed your profile just in case it makes any difference.
I mean obviously I can see something's wrong I just don't know what it is...

@PhiNotPi I visited
Lots of things are squares, is that right?
(Win 10, latest chrome)

@trichoplax thanks!

Oh - don't tell me that actually fixed it??
Was it just affecting TNB or all of chat?

12:31 AM
weeeeeeeeeeeeeeell......
It works now, that's all that matters.

I'd kind of assumed that it wasn't you trolling because as much as I credit you with the patience, it didn't quite ring true. Now I'm doubting myself... :P

Well, whatever was causing it, it seems to have stopped.

That's great

So thanks for the refresh, even if that wasn't the fix.

@HelkaHomba I'm seeing the same thing....
@HelkaHomba try visiting again?

12:41 AM
@PhiNotPi looks good now (Though making the icons part of the links might be nice)

hmm.... I'm trying to figure out why the view count plugin doesn't work with phinotpi.com
Maybe the plugin is doing something sketchy on the back end?

@Geobits Welcome back!

You pronounced me dead :/

RIP Geobits.

@Geobits hey how was I supposed to know the difference?

12:45 AM
So many Wii games near the top is impressive.

Though that list seems dubious. It says Tetris was released in 2006 and Wii Sports is #3 ;)

Wii Sports came bundled with Wiis for a long time (this also improves Tetris numbers).
So that's believable.

They're referring to a specific version of tetris, released in 06.

@HelkaHomba Wow is Tetris that old already?

The year is, but the 500M figure has to be combining them all.

12:48 AM
@DrGreenEggsandHamDJ You sure? I mean probably but where does it say that? The links go to generic Tetris

Tetris is just #1 because it's been ported to literally everything:
> and even as an Easter egg on non-media products like oscilloscopes.

@HelkaHomba ascii_shrug.txt I had always heard it sold half a million specifically on mobile. Idk for sure though.
@Doorknob C has non-pointers.

shh, it's a joke :P

> What if we took the joke too far?

@Quill Jelly?

@Geobits Perl6 from list
> Jelly: What if Dennis could outgolf everyo--oh wait.

wt f dns cld otglf evry1?

evry1 -> all -2 bytes

> wt f

12:55 AM
Oh well if we're seriously golfing it, you can get rid of the "what if"
and the question mark

Serious? Um, no

Your name is blue. You're supposed to be super serious at all times. Look to Alex for inspiration.

@Geobits I try to avoid being serious except where necessary. I'm working up to Alex's level though...

@Doorknob whatthe fuck

Ah, and here comes Alex to show us how it's done :D

12:58 AM
Right on cue :)
@AlexA. context is everything

Grammar!

@bkul Could you put that in a full sentence? :P

Using "grammar" as in interjection seems almost ironic to me >_>

I switched back to this tab and didn't even realize I had been mentioned. I was just doing my duty to inject profanity into otherwise family-friendly scenarios.

damn ninjas

1:00 AM
@Geobits You should have golfed your face down to 2 bytes...

@AlexA. context is everything

Most faces are more than two bites, though.

1:01 AM
@Geobits I realised as I was typing it that it sounds like a weird insult rather than ninja advice...

Just in case we needed more evidence of Geobits being a cannibal

@AlexA. Lots of animals have faces...

You know, aside from him claiming on a disturbing number of occasions to be a cannibal

(some are less than a bite...)

@AlexA. Well it's not like I'm trying to hide the fact or anything.

@Quill there's a special place in Hell for everybody that ever pasted an XKCD comic without the hover text

It's okay, he invented Arcyòu so all is forgiven.

DAGNABBIT I'M SORRY

@Quill Is it next to the lake? If so, that doesn't sound so bad.

Ah, Arcyòu. The language no one can pronounce, type, or use seriously for anything.

That's my spot, @Geobits, don't you dare think of taking it

1:03 AM
I'm sure my spot's already been picked out, no worries.

@bkul I mentally pronounce it like "Ark-yoo." It's easy to type on Mac because I can just hold o and get accent marks. But I concede on #3.
> R: What.if.everything.was.dot.separated_butOnlySometimes?

It's okay, I'm working on a better language that's worse for golfing.

We've achieved something here today

Stop the presses, we've done it again.

@Doorknob I'm annoyed by the use of "was" instead of "were" in those sentences.

A fellow pedant!

Everything is singular
Is it not?

@Quill :%s/if everything was/if everything were/

Everything is wonderful, but what if everything were not?

It's one of those cases where the correct way looks wrong to the majority of people
It's perfect smug food

Well, if it looks wrong to me then it's objectively wrong.

@AlexA. Yep, that's pretty much how objectivity works.

1:11 AM
@trichoplax I think watercress is smug food

It has every right to be

@Geobits It is on the Internet, anyway

@AlexA. Were is also used for conditionals

Were it only that simple...

.-.

1:13 AM
To me that's just shorthand for "if it were" though, so meh.

wereonly werefore were a word

We're not convinced, but we were.

if (x > 3) were

This is a great way to filter the pedants into different categories

I like doStuff() were (x>3)

1:15 AM
There's a line that had aspirations once

It's great typo fodder too. I had to stop myself from typing where.

@Geobits That looks like a typo of doStuff() where (x>3)

:D

Ah, one second too late

Yeah internal autocorrect is almost irresistible
For some reason I find most of my typos are correctly spelled

1:16 AM
@HelkaHomba A solution to your mini challenge in sed (16 bytes): s/\(b\)/\1its/ig

(The wrong word spelled correctly)

Ok, I should probably get going. Hopefully nobody deletes all my recent messages while I'm gone :/

Time will tell...

New idea: A language where the equality operator is `were`, the beginning of a block is `...`, and the end is `*sigh*`.
    if x were 3...
        doStuff()
    *sigh*

if only x were 3...

1:23 AM
@Geobits That's the assignment operator

funny though

I'll start the crowdfunding with 50 rep.

@bkul end the program with "if wishes were horses..."

But the entire language needs to be as ridiculous as that. Otherwise my pledge is retracted.

I feel like some sufficiently evil sed-ing could translate this to C.

1:27 AM
Ok, I really need to get going. Stop being interesting in here.

I'll get to work.

@Geobits #cantstopwontstop

@AlexA. invalid preprocessing directive

TIL Dennis is hip and loves shoes

@bkul can i help?
this sounds like a good idea

1:29 AM
@Maltysen Absolutely!
How about naming it WistfulC?

haha nice

@AlexA. Cannot reproduce.

@bkul so we just preprocess, then compile as C?

@Maltysen Yes. I'm thinking some of it can be handled by the C preprocessor, like s/were/==

what about reducing some of its features and writing a full interpreter
but that seems like a better idea

1:31 AM
If you want to do that you can, but I'm too lazy.

but how would you, for example replace . . . with () around the block? it would take full regexp

"Hey here's a bizarre idea." "Let's turn it into a programming language. I'll start writing the interpreter." #justppcgthings

How about a language where all of the core commands are PPCG usernames?

Only if we use Calvin's Hobbies instead of Helka Homba.
2

what would Helka Homba do

1:33 AM
One at a time, please @HelkaHomba

wth how do i run the code?
1/10 would not codeshare again

Copy-paste to an actual editor?

@bkul what language?
python or js has easy regexp

Hmm.. How about Python?
I would suggest Perl but I don't know it

1:35 AM
@Maltysen You don't. Codeshare is Pastebin with video chat.

or use Cloud9

@bkul do you wanna compile to C?

I would like to, yes

ok then
@bkul lets start with a list of substitutions

okay

1:38 AM
and our main core can be applying those to re.sub
@bkul wait what about types

Hmm..
Leave them?
For now

so, it would be "int if only x were 3..."
right?

"if only int x were 3..."

2:10 AM
@HelkaHomba I really might do this with the 33 Python 3 keywords. Ping me to reserve the keyword to replace with your name: ['False', 'None', 'True', 'and', 'as', 'assert', 'break', 'class', 'continue', 'def', 'del', 'elif', 'else', 'except', 'finally', 'for', 'from', 'global', 'if', 'import', 'in', 'is', 'lambda', 'nonlocal', 'not', 'or', 'pass', 'raise', 'return', 'try', 'while', 'with', 'yield'] (Final keyword decisions are up to me.)

@HelkaHomba I'll take True for 500.

@HelkaHomba Return an Alex, por favor

@HelkaHomba I'll take def ;)

@HelkaHomba I'd like "Starman" in place of lambda.

ok to all of you

2:17 AM
Maybe Calvin's Hobbies should be if else :P
Calvin's Dennis:
    Alex 1
Hobbies:
    Starman x: x+1

Alex should be False

:/
That's why I reserved early, so I wouldn't be stuck with False

@HelkaHomba it might be better if you did python2, so you could replace print
@HelkaHomba can I be pass?

If you do Python 2 you lose nonlocal, right?

@Geobits we made good on your venture capital:

2:19 AM
@Maltysen I'll keep it 3 but change print as well. Any other "almost" keywords I should consider?

@HelkaHomba the builtins?

exec and eval?

@Maltysen Oh right, all of those

@HelkaHomba well that's the python2 list, but yeah

@Maltysen Yeah, sure, those are all up for grabs. We have enough users.
