There are so many things wrong with that question lol
and isnt CoC available on PC...?
i just want help.. i am not here to debate with you — user3099225 3 hours ago
A damn
@Geobits "Debate"
@BrainLot This question... x)
14:14
I just checked Network Engineering and Super User, and apparently tech support isn't on topic on any site in the entire network
Unless you own the network
I find that odd
I find 3 odd.
2
@BrainLot That's because you have to own the network to need tech support of this type. If he was doing something "legit", he would ask to his IT dept. If the IT dept struggle, it could ask on SU/NE for help because network is blocking access of type X
@Mego @Sp3000 Hm, maybe a dedicated copy button. I don't think the only option to generate a permalink should forcefully overwrite a clipboard.
Single quote and Enter are really close. >.<
14:30
@MyHamDJ The Internet is made of cats.
14:49
I'd like to change my name back now, but I have to wait another 18 days :(
This is like the time that everyone at school got faux hawks, and when I got my faux hawk is wasn't cool anymore, and I kept it for far longer than I needed to.
Would it make you feel better if I found another anagram to use? :P
@BrainLot AFAIK you can just change it on another site and copy to all SE sites.
Same message on Board and Card Games and Programming Puzzles and Code Golf: "Display name may only be changed once every 30 days; you may change again on Mar 31 at 19:46"
@Dennis It will miss any sites on which names were recently changed. So you have to wait another 18 days :(
Oh. I've heard of people doing that, but I never tried it myself...
14:54
Okay, I signed up for a new site and changed it there, and then copied it.
That appears to have worked. Let me refresh you chat profile.
they keyboard layout on my ubuntu box has mysteriously switched. What is the right *.se to ask about that sort of thing?
Test
There it is.
Haha, now I have two names in four lines of chat
If you star something I said five minutes ago, does it show up as the old name?
14:56
All names changed on my machine.
I now get ~!@#$%^&*()_+ if I shift-type the top row which I think is US. right?
No, but the transcript will still show the old one IIRC.
Ah, I refreshed and it fixed it
@Lembik Yes
Or at least, it's also US. That may not be the only layout with that row.
I still have my original name "zyabin101" on PPCG, but I have changed my chat name to "...the Hated" via Meta, to reflect how much people hate me, especially who helped me get frozen earlier this month.
14:59
You got frozen?
If somebody flags a thing you've posted, it doesn't mean that he hates you. It just means that he thinks you shouldn't have posted it.
Post deletion via spam/offensive flags come with a free 30 minute suspension.
@Dennis But I didn't chat until I got 200 rep on PPCG.
Suspension – user has been automatically suspended for posting inappropriate content
Mar 4 at 15:48
suspension lasts for 30 minutes until Mar 4 '16 at 16:18
@Dennis Ah.
My other suspension made me discard chatting until March 1.
That too was for 30 minutes.
Suspension – user has been automatically suspended for posting inappropriate content

suspension lasts for 30 minutes until Feb 2 '16 at 17:14
15:08
@Dennis Ah.
In total I got to chat only for one full month. ;(
He took some liberties with state shapes in certain areas, but still pretty cool.
so, i'm in the progress of making a sort of graphical implementation of the CJam desktop interpreter
it's basically like cjam.aditsu.net except for a few differences
would anybody want to help me test it....?
@crayzeedude Coloring of code?
@crayzeedude Link?
@zyabin101theHated I wish. But it can save and load files and take command-line args.
Don't have a link yet, will get it up ASAP
Actually, I'm probably going to put it on GitHub
I'll link you to that when I do
15:23
@crayzeedude Okay.
phew PowerShell answer on the Dyalog 2016 challenge finally posted. That was a bear. Now to see if we can get 1500 ... :D
Note that you'll need Java to run it since the interpreter itself is written in Java and such
Unless I decide to try and pack a standalone JRE with it in the future
@crayzeedude Or even "freeze" it into a packaged EXE file, charged and ready to bounce!
Even without Java.
Hello, @RenderSettings the Urbit explorer!
It looks like Urbit's doc hasn't been moving on recently.
15:30
There are doc changes, but they aren't shipped to urbit.org yet iirc
Check github.com/urbit/docs refactor branch
There was recently a massive overhaul of the project, splitting components into different repos and reorganizing
Oh, the refactor changes are already in master actually.
Really, the best way to get information is probably just to ask in :talk about it. All the people working on it idle in /urbit-meta and would love to answer questions.
> A synthesizer simply produces another recipe. Its
Its what?
@zyabin101theHated ELI5?
doing a batch file meant to be run on 3 different version of windows, with completely different instruction each time is fun...
@crayzeedude Oh, wait, that's Python. Maybe if aditsu allows, you could make a CJam interpreter in Python...
@Dennis Are you making a code-golf to draw the US? :)
15:39
@zyabin101theHated I've put a bit of consideration into rewriting aditsu's interpreter in another language.
I could do it in C# and put it right in with the existing program that I have now
but again i want to be sure they have no problem with me doing so
@Lembik If I was going to make a code golf to draw a country, it wouldn't be the US. We have more than enough US challenges already, pretty much none about other countries.
@Dennis Then maybe the United Kingdom?
Could you guys help me with my answer to Volts, Amps, Watts and Ohms? codegolf.stackexchange.com/a/75193/47581
It seems a little bloated at the moment
Why not drawing Japan? As some island etc ^^
And I got the output format wrong anyway. Hang on
15:46
@Dennis Because 'Murica.
Challenge idea: make a vector image of the border of <country to be defined>. It should be as precise as possible.
@Dennis Indonesia would be fun. We have several thousand islands, but draw the main two dozen or so and you should be fine
@Dennis how about planet earth?
Coming up with a validity criterion would be a pain though.
@crayzeedude CJam has an MIT license.
@Dennis Good. It's permissive. @crayzeedude, before_install stage completed. Runway cleared. Green light.
15:59
@Dennis A map of the Disjointed States of America, presented for your viewing discomfort
@zyabin101theHated Sounds good! Will begin work ASAP.
@crayzeedude Don't forget to add Travis CI, a system that allows you to "test and deploy with confidence". It integrates with your workflow. More here.
Are you going to put it on GitHub?.. Yes?..
@Dennis, could you take a look at my Volts, Amps, Watts and Ohms answer here codegolf.stackexchange.com/a/75193/47581 ? Or point me in the direction of someone who can help me golf it?
a drawing of trump's face.. I feel this could be the start of an idea :)
@zyabin101theHated Hopefully later today. I'm busy with some school work atm
@Sherlock9 That's a bit convoluted to spot any obvious improvements... Any reason for using pow over **?
@Dennis That, sir, is a square root
So is **.5.
Fair enough
range(2) -> 0,1
16:18
in python is there some neat way of making a list/array of length n where each element is a 1 with prob p and a 0 otherwise?
normally there is a function to do it in python :_)
I can't help but think that all of that code would work much better with a regex that split it into value, unit, value, unit
(np.random.random(10) < p).astype('int') it turns out :)
very neat
@Fatalize Does Brachylog have an online interpreter?
Back on my own computer. :D
@AquaTart I don't think so.
16:26
@CoolestVeto ?
No Try it online! exists for this language.
The README in the official repo says nothing about an online interpreter.
Is there a third source?
My computer went in for repairs, the people repairing it tried to rip us off, we quoted a few UK laws at them, we got my computer back with only what it needed done done on it. \o/
And now I'm typing from it.
Oh how I missed you computer.
Why did you need it repaired?
@CoolestVeto \o/
Wifi card was causing the logic board to short-circuit.
16:28
Oh right you're using a Mac and you need a special screwdriver to take it apart
8
k
We had it diagnosed before we sent it in and they tried to tell us that the top case (keyboard area) needed to be replaced.
Didn't end well for them. :P
We called their management, they got told off (we don't know past that), we got the computer back, repaired.
@Dennis Thanks for your help!
16:42
@CoolestVeto From experience: Wifi cards suck.
That is why I don't got linux on this one, it spazzes out and can't connect.

Did¡ you hear the news?
Staggering news in the world of Conway’s Game of Life – a new c/10 spaceship discovered http://www.conwaylife.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=2057 https://t.co/e8i3OtopUq
@AquaTart ^^
Nope.
@El'endiaStarman for your VOL: ^^^
@DonMuesli I've seen this tweeted by @conwaylife, the GoL natural discoveries messenger bot.
What's the benefit of using a custom code-page?
Looks epic.
16:53
@ZachGates 1. Not dealing with unprintables. 2. Better mnemonics.

3. More functions/atoms that take up only 1 byte?
what?
Needeth context.
I need context about your need for context

Where is 1.?
And why did somebody downvote my sandbox post?

Ninja'd!
oh, i missed that.
@zyabin101theHated ಠ_ಠ to your choice of name.
Mwahahahahaj--- struck by gods
@EasterlyIrk :-D
17:05
Wait, you agree? BESTEST BUDDY
Oh and happy 10k.
@EasterlyIrk Thank you!
Sup @NathanMerrill.
so, you need at least 51% of a dollar bill to have it count
@DonMuesli I has 600, not even 1k, so I might as well wish you well. :P
@NathanMerrill yep
which sounds nice on the outside, but has problems
17:07
I has paid like that.
You can screw with mean cashiers.
for example, what if you take 2 whole dollar bills, and split them 66/33?
now you have 3 dollars!
yep
But you have to be careful to split them so you don't pay with 2 of the same side.
lol true
and if handing two ends of a dollar bill seems odd to a bank, then you can split the bills to like 40/60
Does that count as counterfeit to pay with 2 bits of the same side?
and then the two ends would make up 80%, which is more reasonable
17:10
And 2 60%.
Through the power of math and science, I have successfully transferred all of my old computer's files into my new one... all 60 gb of it... in 10 minutes.
With no cords. :D
htf did you do that
HD swap?
17:17
kek, no.
I made a temporary wifi that only passed between the two computers, scp'd over the files.
I was like "ugh this is going to take days", then I found the terminal. c:
But yeah. This drive is going to be half Core Storage, half Ubuntu.
@Geobits totally the fastest way to transfer data. If I remember right, google still does that for high-volume transfers
@CoolestVeto Ubuntu I got, but what is Core Storage?
@zyabin101theHated Core Storage is how Mac organizes its bootable partitions.
I read that as Hated Core Storage and was like why would you hate that?
Core Storage is annoying.
It has... interesting peculiarities.
17:28
First person who can provide a string that matches the JavaScript regex /\F\o\r\ \s\a\f\e\t\y/ wins
Acts like a single volume, but's really two, Disk Utility lies about it, etc.
@LegionMammal978 For safety?
@EasterlyIrk Incorrect.
Hint: non-existent escapes are raw.
\\F\\o\r\\ \\s\x07\x0c\\e\t\\y, C-style escaped.
Fo
  afe	y
@zyabin101theHated Dude, you're not even the one who issued the challenge.
Plus, he's asking for a string that is matched by that regex, not the regex that matches that string. :I
@CoolestVeto I already deleted that message. I'm sorry about that.
/o\
17:34
Why was that starred?
17:47
@DonMuesli !
Looks I'm gonna have to change my avatar...
@AquaTart To what?
Daaaaarn the Shift and Enter buttons on my keyboard are easily confused
@NewSandboxedPosts What about g or G?
@Dennis I was thinking of changing pl's code page to MAC-CYRILLIC because a lot of the CP437 characters don't fit very well, but now I might actually make my own...
More flexibility
It seems like a good time to start this game.
The settings are:

         for player:   for watcher:
Attacker network       network
Defender human         network

The words you need to fill in the blanks in the url are `ondras` and `ppcgur`, from left to right.
It's custom Tetris, btw.
To join the game, goto the link above, enter the settings and click Connect. When a green checkmark appears next to Connect, click Play.
@AquaTart What do those do?
@EasterlyIrk g plus a movement key will go in that direction until you encounter something of note (wall, monster, etc.)
The difference between g and G is that g will also stop at certain things like corridor intersections
18:01
so gh = H
@DonMuesli @EasterlyIrk: That is amazing. Permalink.
@EasterlyIrk ?
So typing gh is the same as typing H.
Then I will skip it.
18:03
Although generally I just use gh
Better to be more specific
eh.
It is golf.
I kinda disagree since I think go mode makes it more interesting
@El'endiaStarman Which spaceship is that?
It's a new one.
Doesn't have a name yet.
18:05
@LegionMammal978 The one that was just discovered today.
How fast is it?
c/10
Big splash in the GoL community.
According to this it's called the "Copperhead"
Nice.
Pretty cool
@El'endiaStarman Can you show us a picture on a larger non-toroidal grid?
I can't figure out how to VoL
OK.
Thanks.
That's the best I could find
Some of the phases are rather disturbing xD
18:14
I really should rewrite the render-to-gif part in C.

:-D
@El'endiaStarman Indeed!
@AquaTart but don't use too large a spaceship or it will be messy when shown with reduced size :-)
18:27
Every time someone says "This is a popularity contest, so creativity is key." I want to comment "What do you think people use to squeeze out that one last byte in code golf?"...
20
> This a popularity contest, so memeiness is key.
@MartinBüttner I would use Mathematica more often, but several challenges nowadays are about string processing
@MartinBüttner Also, are you running *NIX on the computer with your Mathematica installation?
18:34
yes
(although I do have a Pi, but I'm not using it at the moment)
Okay, needed someone to test my port of this
Trying to get it to support Windows
ugh, it was only a matter of time, wasn't it...
3
hahaha
actually, that's a really good idea
did you hand pick the symbols?

@MartinBüttner So, where's your Mathematica installation directory?

@LegionMammal978 Why do you need to know that? :P (Default directory under Windows though)
Is this going to be something more than just "Mathematica with shorter function names"? If not, prepare for the inevitable downvotes.
@LegionMammal978 It affects appearance of messages above itself! @AlexA. do something!
@Geobits this.
(That said, I think a semi-functional golfing language based on symbolic maths and Mathematica's type system + pattern matching would be interesting... that's what I would focus on if making a Mathematica-inspired golfing lang... just shortening the built-ins seems pretty lame though)
But yeah, I need it for .NET/Link to work
18:51
I disagree. Its trivial, but it 90% of the golfing that mathematica needs
And it leads to some golfs
@NathanMerrill I'm not sure how that makes it not lame.
brb, making Pwrshl
For example, While[True] in it is shorter than While[1>0]
I'm not debating over an opinion-based word :P
18:52
@MartinBüttner And which version do you have?
@NathanMerrill You said you disagree :P
@LegionMammal978 here, 10.3
I think
wait
I don't think its lame, but I'm not going to try to make you think it isn't
might be 10.2
if you are making an "inspired by Mathematica" golfing language, then you're never going to get all of the builtins.
18:53
the amount of sheer work
just compile it to Mathematica
I think that's what LegionMammal does
@LegionMammal978 10.2
...but then that's just mapping
which is "lame"
I did say that, didn't it? :D
@Geobits I'm surprised no one has suggested Guy Fawkes for the name yet.
Hey, @RenderSettings the Urbit-meister!
now, after mapping is done, you can totally try to reduce other features of mathematica, but it has a significantly higher work to benefit ratio
18:56
@MartinBüttner, download and extract this
@LegionMammal978 Ooo! What is that?
@LegionMammal978 I'll try later
Also, golfing in Mthmtca is about trying to find the smallest FullForm (i.e., the least built-ins)
@zyabin101theHated An unfinished Windows build
@LegionMammal978 For Mthmtca? But where are the docs?
23 mins ago, by LegionMammal978
Okay, needed someone to test my port of this
The spec is still unfinished
