@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ G"night
Hooray, #1 on HNQ :)
Using a German keyboard means I have to find characters by trial and error sometimes. :P
phonetic keyboards ftw

Q: help me to prompt the user to enter the size of an array.. I NEED THIS NOW PLEASE

cheeseprompt the user to enter the size of an array and allow the user to input integer values to your array. check each element if it is even or odd. if even, print the sorted elements (ascending value) if odd get the max and min using conditional statement. output the result

this is beautiful
03:01
> Also, JavaScript =\= Java
No they are same
@quartata Wow, Doorknob, you're slacking. 33 whole seconds?

A: Sandbox for Proposed Challenges

ymarThis is code golf. Take a string as input. The string is assumed to be of any length (including the empty string) and to contain at most two different characters (chosen by the user from the printable ASCII set or equivalent), say 'x' and 'y'. The program will interpret the string as a word in th...

I know, right?
@ETHproductions I know I know
03:02
I saw a job opening once that said "Java, also called JavaScript, ..."
@AlexA. wtf
@AlexA. ಠ_ಠ
You know, funny story.
03:02
@Quill D:
Originally the guy who made JS was hired to implement Scheme in Netscape
Then upper management cancelled it because the language "didn't look like Java"
@Sp3000 my 64 is kind-of ugly
So that's how JavaScript was born
And the world is worse for it
Hmm only have 71 so far, brute forcing expressions atm

@quartata That guy is the former CEO of Mozilla. Had to step down after people found out that he donated a bunch of money to CA Prop 8.
@quartata JavaScript is amazing!
@quartata I thought JavaScript was born in the fiery pits of Mordor?
@Downgoat lmao
03:04
@quartata Which part are you :/ing?
@Quill It was made in 10 days apparently.
that's okay. html is literally xml with different headers
@AlexA. That he donated a bunch of money to Prop 8
@Downgoat Why ´=/=` and not.... Dennis, how do I type the backslash and at symbol on a German keyboard?!
@Sp3000 What challenge is this?
03:05
@quartata Yeah. Needless to say, a lot of people were a lot of pissed.
@El'endiaStarman \@ ?
@Downgoat German keyboard
Meh, I'll just switch back to the English one. :P
@Sp3000 Oh. Didn't know you golfed on anagol
hhahahaha
> analgol
03:06
Occasionally - xnor just linked me earlier though for this one
don't even
@Downgoat Why =\= and not =/=?
In Fortran, not equal is /=
@El'endiaStarman how does it matter
03:08
@Downgoat ≠
In BASIC it's <>
In SAS it's ^=
^^ as in Excel
darn bearmonkeys
Here be bearmonkeys
I thought we had this spiel of not-equals in different languages already.
03:09
Probably
I missed that one
ok i just need help. fvck this — cheese 2 mins ago
@ETHproductions Gnarly scar.
@Downgoat hahahaha
03:09
@Downgoat fvcking hell
Homework's probably due tomorrow or something
I think that much is clear :P
We'll never know if it was a JavaScript or Java assignment
@quartata asks the real questions
I'll call the regex police on you
03:11
@quartata Their the same tho
require("java");
@xnor For per-line input problems like these, is there ever anything better than while 1:n=input();print ...? I suppose exec is too long
40 GOTO REGEX HTML PARSER
I like the part where you edited that to make the grammar worse
@Quill You should really use the jQuery Java module though
use that and the jQuery homework module
Oh Mr. Cheese has created a profile on SO
@quartata from __homework__ import jQuery, Java, JavaScript
03:13
> BSCS, CEU MAKATI
@Quill from jquery import javascript
@quartata that's japanese for avocado
and he still doesn't know the difference between JavaScript and Java
At first I found that funny
Now I'm just sad
@quartata It's a university in the Philippeans
@quartata how many times does alex have to tell you? their the saem
03:14
@AlexA. I know.
Anyways.
@quartata And yet you don't know Java is JavaScript.
For sham.

A: How does my router resolve a URL like http://router.asus.com/ to its IP address?

JonnoYour router has it's own DNS server. When you do use it online, it'll forward to your ISPs DNS, but it's also added it's own entry at router.asus.com to point to itself. As you're likely using DHCP, it'll automatically assign your machines to use it's own DNS. You could test this by changing to ...

03:20
@Quill Oh cool. ... That's actually fewer than I expected.
Who is Sathya? o_O
@AlexA. Can [time] be made a tag synonym of [date]?
@AlexA. a SU mod afaik
@AlexA. Super User mod
ninja'd
Why is he making PPCG queries?
I changed it manually
03:21
o
So you are Sathya
@AlexA. no he is Quill
Quillthya
Sathyall
@Downgoat Depends how it's being used
Hmm. I posted remove the "you already have an answer" notifications on the Q&A site thing, but I'm not sure if we should remove the more than 30 answers one.
03:22
@AlexA. well [datetime] is a synonym of [date]
We do see a lot of duplicate answers on catalogs. Maybe that pop-up helps prevent some of them, dunno.
It would be nice if it could go away on the sandbox though....
@quartata If it could be removed on Meta for the Sandbox, go for it.
...ninja'd. :(
And the tag wiki of [date] says: "This challenge is [...] clock times."
Alright, done
03:25
Oh, I guess it needs approval.
Needs 4 people to upvote the proposed synonym.
> You do not have the required score on this tag to vote for this tag synonym
:(
Luckily I do.
@Downgoat Huh
I thought mod votes on synonym were binding though
I thought so too
03:27
Might be something worth posting on le Mother Meta
y u no work taco :/
@quartata Doorknob asked 2 years ago
Eh? I have approved tag synonyms and merged tags on C.SE.
03:29
It'd be odd for that to be a graduated-site feature.
"We might give this post a status someday"
speaking of graduation....
Okay, figured it out
how many days was it?
5 more years, bro
03:30
Ye
PPCG: "Can has graduat senpai"
SE: "Get rekt lul"
2
And every time you ask a question about graduation they bump it up another 5
mod conspiracy this is...
@El'endiaStarman I know they paid you off!
03:31
@quartata We'll graduate next millennium, then.
I wonder which will come first. Area51 getting an upgrade, or PPCG graduating
Area 51 feels so awkward
@Quill PPCG graduating, since SE has said they'll never update Area51
I really dislike using it
But we'll graduate... someday.
03:32
@quartata Where did they say that?
some meta post lel

A: Area 51 Mobile Site

Adam LearArea 51 is actually a separate codebase from the rest of the Stack Exchange sites. At this point it is sort of on its last legs as we're working towards "Area 52", which is probably/hopefully not going to be actually called "Area 52". it looks like they'll deprecate it in favor of this a52 thing
Coming out right around the same time as HL4

Yeah. Exactly.
There's another meta post too
But I can't find it

When we do finally graduate, what will we make jokes about?
03:36
Code Review
@Sp3000 I've never seen it, but I've done relatively few problems of this type.
Make jokes about getting more mods
@Quill I do hope we get 4 mod seats and not 3
or about some other site that hasn't graduated yet. Like Lifehacks
@ChronoFish Implementation keeps going back to the drawing board. Most of the designs (to date) have been... overwrought. Designing something that is robust, scalable, broadly applicable, and easy to understand has been difficult. But as we launch more sites, we're learning how to be more deterministic in measuring success... and how to guide communities along that path. But implementing something usable gets pushed back every time we learn new ways to make it much less complicated. We may land on a system where we start with "beta sites" and there's hardly an Area51-style "process" at all. — Robert Cartaino ♦ Dec 19 '14 at 18:11
03:37
@xnor Hmm well in any case I'm probably just doing this problem incorrectly, because I'm a fair ways off :P
@Quill More? We have 6 already and 2 are inactive
@Calvin'sHobbies Pro tem mods lose their seats when a site graduates
Hence "pro tempore"
> for the time
Technically, yes, but many/most pro-tems get elected.
03:38
Most likely we'll only end up with 3 (that's the default).
3 mods seems ok
Alex said something about begging for 4
We had to beg for our seats
I personally think we need 4.
3 doesn't feel like enough to me.
I agree
We don't have to beg though
03:39
so... who's running?
The pro tems
Grace Note just told me to tell her that we want 4 slots when the time comes
I doubt any other people will run
> when the time comes
Anyone think I should run?
I wasn't planning on it...
03:40
@El'endiaStarman sure but you'll lose terribly because everyone will just vote the pro-tems back
Probably. :P
@Quill The four active pro-tems: Martin, Doorknob, Dennis, and me, as well as PhiNotPi.
Probably others too.
ProgramFOX might run again. (He ran in the informal election in which Dennis and I were chosen.)
ProgramFOX does a lot of janitorial stuff behind the scenes but he's not very active on the site overall
@AlexA. Technically none of the protems have explicitly mentioned that they will run in the election on graduation, actually :P
I don't think I'd want him as a mod (sorry)
03:41
I'm probably a little biased, but I think the current pro-tem team has been doing a great job and works exceptionally well together.
@Doorknob Are you implying that you're not running? :P
@quartata Doorknobs don't run, only turn
5
ninja'd to the pun I was about to make by Calvin
@Doorknob sigh technicality. :P I feel like it's a pretty safe assumption.

Essentially, the current Area 51 site works well enough and the dev team is too busy doing newer stuff that benefits more people.
@quartata Oh, I'm running.
@Dennis k good
I predict the final ranking will be 1) Martin, 2) Dennis, 3) Doorknob, 4) Alex, 5) PhiNotPi, 6..?) other people.
03:49
Nothing against you.
Why on Earth would I come in ahead of Doorknob and Alex?
Actual ranking:
You're a lot more visible.
Alex is like literally everywhere
1) Martin 1) Dennis 1) Doorknob 1) Alex
03:49
@quartata ?
I post a lot more. That's rather unrelated to moderating.
@Doorknob Am I? o_O
@quartata I'm sure you're joking, but we only get 3 picks in the election. Someone will be 4th.
For the record, @MartinBüttner definitely has my vote. Feels like he's always trying to improve the site with stuff like meta.codegolf.stackexchange.com/q/8441 and meta.codegolf.stackexchange.com/q/8350
> joking
03:51
@El'endiaStarman You only get 3 picks even when there's 4 slots?
(I know meta != moderating but it shows dedication to the quality of the site)
Hmm. If people vote based on moderation, probably 1) Doorknob, 2) Alex, 3) Martin, 4) Dennis.
Sometimes I think Alex is actually 5 sock accounts because there's no way he could be in chat, post on main and meta, handle flags, and comment/etc. on posts so quickly while still being one person
2
@AlexA. yes
@AlexA. Correct.
Anonymous
03:51
Our current 4 active mods are a hell of a team. I absolutely support 4 mod slots, and those 4 being re-elected :)
3
Huh, didn't know.
@Calvin'sHobbies Alex is pretty active on meta too
Alex loves you.
@quartata I feel like I see Doorknob and Dennis less there, but maybe I'm wrong
Anonymous
03:52
And if we only get 3 votes, I'll feel bad about having to not vote for one of them
Doorknob was more active on meta in previous years
How do the protems rank in Candidate scores
@Doorknob Shh you'll reveal my secret >_>
@Quill How does one obtain said score?
Dennis is actually fairly active on meta but mostly on things like scoring and validity
The reason why Martin and Alex are sticking in your head is because they're the ones always nagging SE it seems
03:53
How many mods does SO have?
Too few.
^ and ^^
@Calvin'sHobbies 18
I like how those are not exclusive. :P
03:53
For the sake of an argument, do we actually need 4 or just want 4?
@Calvin'sHobbies Lots of things like that are discussed extensively in the mod chatroom before actually being posted. Martin had been discussing those two posts specifically for months, and Alex and Dennis provided a ton of input there as well
@Calvin'sHobbies Define need.
@Calvin'sHobbies Yep, 18.
Ninja'd
03:54
...... :( ninja'd in both all three parts...
@quartata Like, without a 4th the others won't be able to keep up with flags/etc.
Anonymous
To me, it seems more like this: Doorknob and Alex are carpet bombers - they do everything and are highly visable. Dennis and Martin are more like tactical nukes - they don't do as much visible stuff, but when they do, it's always well thought-out and on important issues.
@Calvin'sHobbies Yes, we need 4. (but not because of flags per se)
@Calvin'sHobbies Flag load is most definitely not a problem at all
I didn't think flag load was an issue.
03:54
@Calvin'sHobbies Well, we got by effectively with 1 (Doorknob) for a long time.
It wasn't even a problem when I was the only really active mod
The why, strictly, do we need 4 mods?
Anonymous
Though we could probably get away with 3 mods, our 4 work so well together that I don't see a reason not to elect all 4 of them :P
@Calvin'sHobbies We have different needs and standards than other sites, so I feel like moderating here is a little different. A lot of things are not at all obvious and require a closer eye.
Anonymous
03:56
I'd imagine having more perspectives on complex site issues (like the popcon issues) helps
@Quill No surprise that Martin's at the top there :P
@Doorknob Can you let 20kers into that someday? ;D
@Quill Dang, I lost to even @quartata.
@Quill this is meaningless flags and rep aren't everything
@El'endiaStarman That's just because I have a lot of edits and flags :P
@Calvin'sHobbies heh, it's a mod-only chatroom for a reason. PII and whatnot.
03:57
@Calvin'sHobbies Unfortunately not because we discuss moderation things in there which would be a violation of the mod agreement.
Shitninja'd
Interesting idea though: mod+20k room.
@Downgoat Would you mind if I applied to Generate Programs in Increasing size? I tried to find it to post my answer, and it took me a while without the tag.
Anonymous
Those stats don't mean a whole lot for us
@El'endiaStarman so 19th byte? :P
@quartata This is SE's candidate score that they display at every election
03:58
@Dennis sure
Also, 23 seconds. Still slipping, but getting a little better...
@Doorknob Do you have chat and main open on separate monitors? :P
Anonymous
For example, the editing badges can be gotten legitimately really easily here by adding syntax highlighting and cleaning up headers, which are relatively minor things, and as such the editing badges are basically ubiquitous
@El'endiaStarman No, but I keep a main tab perpetually open, so I see the WebSocket notifications in the title
