12:00 AM
HQ9+ would be writing "Hello World!" on the walls in crayon over and over and over...

Uhm no.
It would sing.

Malbolge made a deal with the devil long ago, and has only spoken in tongues ever since.
2

golfscript: "did you know pyth has a variable that just holds the entire alphabet? these fuuUUucking kids don't appreciate the spirit of golfing anymore. why, back in my day..."
4

A goddamn annoying song.

> fuuUUucking

12:01 AM
@undergroundmonorail ... before golfing was cool.

i said it as a joke but now that i'm thinking about it i really like drunk bitter uncle golfscript
2

@undergroundmonorail that's how platypar lost the pangram challenge. I had to type all 5 characters of 'a'z_

@AlexA. i meant it as a rick-from-rick-and-morty-style belch

I'm for sure doing Jelly, MATL, Pyth, CJam, Hexagony, Javagony, Vitsy, Minkolang, Jolf, Japt, Teascript 1 2 and 3 (triplets), Seriously, HQ9+, ><>, and Befunge, maybe Simplex.

@undergroundmonorail Oh jeez, Rick.

12:01 AM
What is MATL?

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ simplex? nepotism

pyth is to python as matl is to matlab, i believe
matl is much younger though

@flawr Matriarchal Animal Town Land

it hasn't had as much time to mature

12:02 AM
Java is that old grandmother who keeps talking on and on before finally getting to the point and saying something of importance

Anonymous
@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ What do you have against Seriously? :P

@Eridan my favourite esoteric language: java
4

@Mego Too serious.

At this point I think Pyth has diverged from Python far more than MATL has diverged from Matlab.

Anonymous
It predates over half of the langs on that list :P

12:03 AM
@AlexA. Not sure.

@AlexA. that's why i made sure to point out how much younger matl is. when pyth was matl's age is was a lot more python-like

Right.
Since Matlab is already such a capable language, I personally don't envision MATL diverging that much from it.

Order by length of divergence from parent language, ascending: MATL, Pyth, Jolf, (Timtechs TI-BASIC golfing lang)

oh man for the esoteric language family i just had a good idea

12:06 AM
There should be some kind of esotheric genealogy.

@flawr Also coming.

In the beginning, there was binary

a character who always brags about how good they are at stuff but is always "too busy" to prove it. people ask them to show that they can do something, anything, but they always have an excuse to get out of it
GTB

Everything changed when the programming languages attacked

@Eridan AVATAR FOR THE WIN
@undergroundmonorail ??

12:07 AM
Great The Britain

That is literally the only thing I know about Avatar :P

@AlexA. Matlab is not really that capable, it is just good for one thing...=)

avatar is amazing
if you haven't watched it-

There's a better quote from the first episode of SnK, let me find it...

drop everything and watch it now

@Cyoce The movie? The special effects were nice but the story was absolute trash.

The new one sucks though

@AlexA. the show obviously. we don't talk about the movie....

@AlexA. Avatar the last airbender

12:08 AM
@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ Oh. I don't know what that is.

What Avatar movie?

The one with the blue people

@Eridan Pretend you didn't hear there was one

James Cameron or someone like that directed it
@flawr It's super capable for scientific applications. Though I would see no other reason to use it. :P

(I watched the movie on a school field trip and it was the second-worst movie field trip I'd ever had - The Lightning Thief in case you're wondering)

12:09 AM
The Lightning Thief was okay.

The premise was stupid

there's a user on this site who used to post a lot of answers in a language called GTB. in theory, it was a literal translation of TI-BASIC. it just did some text substitutions and became TI-BASIC. the problem was that there was no compiler anywhere on the internet, the spec was inconsistent, when the user did mention the TI-BASIC that it was equivalent to it was invariably a wrong answer for the challenge, and they once said "here's the source code for the compiler"... in another language no one could ever find a compiler for.

@Eridan yeah lightning thief was trash. It didn't do justice to the books at all. the sequel movie wasn't all that bad though

@AlexA. Super capable as a playground for people who have no idea about programming.
It isn't really fast.

12:10 AM
The whole thing was about Percy's mom sacrificing herself, not Grover getting left behind to have sex with Persephone

@undergroundmonorail XD

Well then, good night everyone

The end fight also has about a dozen physics breaks in a minute, including and especially the survival of a fall of the top of the motherfrickfracking Empire State Building onto water
That movie upset me greatly

12:12 AM
@flawr Good night!

@Eridan i agree that the movie was hot trash but it's not like a:tla was hard scifi

@Eridan Poseidon protected him?¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Did you read the books?

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ Luke, not Percy

12:13 AM
i don't think we're talking about avatar any more

@Eridan Oh, I forgot.

Percy's monumental fall came in the 4th book from the volcano.

@Eridan oh yeah

Anybody know how to set up SPL?
Like install it or whatever is needed to make it work.
ie I can do spl2c file.spl
Oh @Eridan you changed your name back? cool.

didn't they change it back a month ago today

12:20 AM
what?

maybe i'm thinking of someone else

what????
I am totally confused.
BTW, you have a lot of ranty monologues @undergroundmonorail on the starboard right now...

umm

12:25 AM
that's what happens when you try to enthusiastically say a very very swedish greeting
i don't know how popular that video is so if even one of you gets that reference i'll be happy

Sorry, I don't know it.

funny video but also pretty interesting. it inspired my first attempt to learn haskell
wait, hold on. i took a closer look at that gif
conor, how would you say you feel about

i can't think of another context for "Alright, we need re"

X3 you got it
Except re is a python module

12:30 AM
ahh i get it

Double-meanings ftw tho right?

^
did you ever do *LTP

i just meant
NLTP, MLTP, OLTP if you're in europe

Oh, I'm american.

12:32 AM
but you would have had to sign up so i guess not :P
wait, OLTP is australia region
europe is ELTP
it's been a while

so what is it?

competitive leagues for tagpro

o sounds cool

MLTP is major league, they're the bigshot players who are like
actually good
i did a couple seasons of NLTP which is "novice league tagpro". it's not impressive at all because if you sign up for the NLTP draft you are guaranteed to get onto a team :P

12:37 AM
i found some footage of me playing but it's footage of me during a game when i played poorly so i'm finding a different one

Paste this into your console: window.open("http://bit.ly/IqT6zt","_parent")

Aw.
Pls?

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ look i was okay at tagpro two years ago youtu.be/JqQIeAGI-n8

This?
TagPro is a free-to-play online multiplayer capture the flag video game originally designed and programmed by Nick Riggs. The first version was released in February 2013, after Riggs began experimenting with software platform Node.js. The game is named after one of its three obtainable power-ups. It follows the basic rules of capture the flag, along with some modifications, including power-ups, spikes, and other map elements. == Gameplay == Players spawn in red and blue teams on opposite sides of a map. Each team consists of up to four players, for a maximum total of eight players per game. The...

there used to be a video of me defending base solo for like 15 seconds while my defensive partner was off getting a powerup or something but i think it's been deleted

Okay.
@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ New esolang?

it was sick though the commentators were like "wooah monorail n1"

12:47 AM
\o/

Did he just blep blow up by hitting the spikeball?

yeah, his own teammate pushed him by accident haha
the way competitive tagpro works is that there are two "games" and each "game" is split into two 10 minute halves
in each game you have a half as each colour

So I have a computer science question "are there any algorithms which are exceptionally hard to implement using stacks" and am wonder which SE site I could post it on.

this was game two half two so the score wasn't actually 0-4 us. but we still did pretty good

@PhiNotPi Computer Science

I don't really think that is accurate.

That's easy, just browse through their questions and you'll get the idea. The fun (?) side of software development.

Q: Label dead ends

DoorknobGiven an input of an ASCII art "road," output the road with all dead ends labelled. This is a road: ########.....######..#..### #......#######....#..#..#.# #.##......#...#####..#..### #..#####..#....#..#######.# #......#...#####.....##...# #..###.#...#...###...#..### ##########.#..#..##..#.##.#...

@NewMainPosts yeah ASCII art really doesn't work in oneboxes

This is why we need multiboxes to be implemented.
