@RadvylfPrograms I'd like to add good jokes that haven't been starred, because there's no reason to have 10 stars on some message that sounds silly out of context so it stays up for days afterwards and keeps the serious stuff off the starboard

@tjjfvi discord

…what discord
I don’t know how anyone would’ve found it
Besides digging through my profile

Found it, pretty cool
Nice job getting monaco working
Not particularly error-tolerant though :P

@tjjfvi cgcc discord. your profile has your github
i was just logreading and i matched the profile pics

1:23 AM
Ah, ok
@allxy haha yeah
Still in beta

It'd be cool if it could handle whitespace in statements / loops
Like for(...){ vs for (...) {?

It might
Try it
If it doesn’t, it should/will

It does, never mind :)

Nice

How does that work?

1:33 AM
I gotta run; I’ll explain later

@RadvylfPrograms I write more than 35% of my code with copilot
And I actually do use it for python and java
Good gosh does that make me a stereotype?

1:59 AM
Does copilot give the same code for same input?

Don't think so

interesting

2:11 AM
@Bubbler it does
It's got a temperature of 0

Q: Is it 1089-able?

dingledooper\$ 1089 \$ is a very special number. To prove why, select any 3-digit number whose first and last digits differ by at least 2. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ serif and monospace go together kinda weirdly

@PyGamer0 It looks very narrow

7:14 AM

@PyGamer0 I like slab monospaces. This is alright, but imo pt mono is the slab monospace

@allxy I've seen these accounts before, I think they're basically just spam bots?

¯\_(ಠ_ಠ)_/¯

7:41 AM
@allxy i have seen those a couple of times
@pxeger i like narrow typefaces...

There are now two questions you can answer to get 200 rep from JoKing.

I kinda want to do a random bountyfest for posting answers within a specific minute this year
#forthememes

> answers

6th september 4:20 UTC

@allxy April Fool's perhaps?
you'll have to wait 1 year though

^^^

9:43 AM
@allxy Ah, I'll be asleep at that time
:(

Don't sleep then

I might make it 4:20 am/pm ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
This is hypothetical lol

You could hold a bounty day
those who answer 10 times during that day receive some amount of bounty depending on the difficulties of the answered questions

9:55 AM
nice
I'll do a pi-bounty day

be prepared to give out tons of rep...

(hopefully I'll have 10k rep by then)

pi-bounty day... as in 3/14?

yeah

can't wait

@allxy mine is that if you use Page Up to change the position of a video before it has started playing then it only plays audio and the UI breaks completely

yey

12:54 PM
@allxy just allyx or emanresu A too?

both

1:20 PM
@allxy Unlike most formatters, eglint doesn't have a set of pre-set rules.
Instead, it derives the format directly from the reference file; essentially, for every node in the subject file, it finds the most syntactically similar node in the reference file and makes the whitespace align
The process is a bit more complicated, but that's the general idea
It has a cool side-effect that many things will work without manual effort on my part
Like the for loop thing you tried
I had never tested that before
Some forms of syntax need manual effort (like changing string quoting or when the AST format isn't ideal), but most of the time it Just Works™

1:35 PM
Bubbler/piet now has the Explain feature. It's pretty basic but it can produce pictures like this or this.

1:52 PM
@tjjfvi How's the hunt for a solution to the square problem going? ;)

Been pretty busy lately
Haven't progressed much
Still need to get in touch with people

ah... I see
that challenge is too difficult for me, I can't even understand it

Also I need to figure out what my code does
It's been too long
Haha I guess I'm safe, then

For a few years at least

Indeed
I might get around to it next month

1:54 PM
Hopefully yeah
looking forward to seeing a solution
even if I have no idea what it does...

Well if all goes well I'll probably have a pretty detailed explanation
Which should help ;)
Though perhaps not as epic as cubular

I briefly saw your answer to that one
should read it sometime... maybe now?

IMO it's a good read, but I'm probably biased ;)
Writing that explanation took longer than the actual answer

I can see why that challenge remained unanswered for so long

A: Nominations for Language of the Month, Take 2

BubblerPiet Piet is a classic esolang that dates back to 2001 (according to Esolangs article), which is unique in that it operates on an image rather than source code. But "source code being an image" is only part of its uniqueness. The instruction pointer moves around in the unit of single-colored area...

In some sense LYAL is a nice testing ground for LotM nomination

@ophact Nope, it wasn’t randomly generated
But it was perhaps the most uncreative choice

@hyper-neutrino Thanks!

@tjjfvi How so?

I’ll leave that as an exercise to the reader
Can’t give away all my mystery ;)

2:38 PM
@tjjfvi let me guess: tjj + f + vi(m) ?
:p

@Bubbler True, and also vice-versa--tinylisp's LYAL was helped, I think, by some resources I developed while it was LotM

The most successful LYALs: Vyxal, piet, tinylisp i think (in chronological order)

@PyGamer0 nope, too creative

@tjjfvi you just mashed your keyboard?

Anything to do with the colour green?

2:44 PM
@PyGamer0 make it look like F L A X E L E M E N T S E A R C H with a red double border

@PyGamer0 It wasn't generated randomly

@tjjfvi is tjj your initials?

Really, its less that I chose the name, and more that I chose not to not choose the name
@PyGamer0 No, but you're close

tj?

You're just getting farther

2:46 PM
tjjf?

In a way, but no

hm ... i dont know what to guess now..

It's rather obvious, once you abandon your unfounded assumptions

@PyGamer0

@tjjfvi cat name?

2:49 PM
Nope, wrong assumption
I could just tell you, but this is more fun

For me, anyway

@PyGamer0 ^

Is it an acronym for The Jelly Jobs For Vyxal Initiative?

@BgilMidol uh i dont like that
i like my current version as is

2:51 PM
No, it was created much before either of those languages, at least to my knowledge

Twas a joke.
Ofc it isn't an acronym for that
That doesn't even exist.

In a way, you could say it was determined over a century ago

@tjjfvi the jitsu foundation?

No, my username

2:53 PM
@tjjfvi Thomas Jefferson something?

Nope
PyGamer0 was closest so far
But they didn't go all the way

Every second letter of your name?

@tjjfvi ivfjjt are your initials?

Now you're all mixed up

Well I hate to leave while it's still a mystery but I really need to sleep now
o/

2:55 PM

o/

@tjjfvi o_o-o`o
hey look new wave emoticon: `o
@tjjfvi is it supposed to represent something?

@PyGamer0 You were so close

IV?

@tjjfvi tjjf?
the sixth?
tjjf the sixth?

2:57 PM
Ah ha
We have a winner

But who is tjjf?

My initials are tjjfvi, yes

@tjjfvi yesssss
@ophact thanks to this message

From 'T[first name] J[middle name] J[second middle name] F[last name] the Sixth'

@PyGamer0 I was referring to "IV" being the initials
so right for the wrong reason ;)

2:59 PM
@ophact i thought it was a roman numeral :p

@tjjfvi perhaps this makes more sense now

@tjjfvi it still doesnt ... unless were the 5 more tjjfs?

Well that's what "the Sixth" would imply, no?

hmm interesting
@tjjfvi so your dad's name is tjjfv?

One would expect so

3:05 PM
i got an idea for a cmc :p
CMC: Given a number convert it to a roman numeral and prepend "tjjf" :p

it got bakeried.

And my story is forgotten once again…

We'd have a huge marble cake by tomorrow.
Someone who knows how to bake should try making cakes using the ingredients @RadvylfPrograms puts in the bakery...
ah lag

@ophact that would be interesting

@tjjfvi You can always post an answer here :p

3:29 PM
It would be the most interesting answer ;)
seeing as many ingredients are put into the bakery on a regular basis

@RadvylfPrograms Perhaps I will, someday

Hey, looks like the button "An edit has been made to this post" is working again!

4:27 PM
i haven't voted yet but the past day or two and the more i think about it the more i think having a general off-topic room may be a good idea

4:41 PM
Maybe it could be a dumping ground like the Bakery, except not for "trash," just off-topicness. And people can keep talking there if they want. (Will anybody want to moderate it?)

@DLosc i see that you have started tinylisp2 which is awesomer :)

Indeed :)

@DLosc The same ROs TNB and the Bakery have can make sure things stay SFW and stuff

i'll hover around the room as well; it won't need as much moderation since there won't really be a matter of topic anymore it'll just be adherence to ToS/CoC
and that sort of stuff can be modded by anyone via just normal or mod flags since ROs here are important for moderating the chatiquette since they don't always require suspensions or stuff and flags might make other people handle it wrong

We should call the room TNB (Non-Competing) :p

4:48 PM
The Twenty-First Byte :D
6
it's 21 bytes as well

nice

5:38 PM
Well the plot thickens. They've removed "your GPA bad you baka" from the reasons they're rejecting me from NHS, but have added the following wonderfully vague justifications: Not completely filling out the paper application, not submitting the digital verification form, not having any extracurricular activities verified on your application form, and incorrectly formatting your essay submission."
Despite the application explicitly stating you're allowed to justify why you don't have extracurricular activities in your essay
Which I'm guessing is why they added the last two, since I spent like half the essay listing why I'm unable to do extracurricular activities

Q: Link fails to render properly when rejecting an accepted edit

caird coinheringaahingI think a screenshot best conveys the bug: As you can see, the link HTML in the drop down does not properly render: This edit was already approved - please visit <a href="/questions/246460/king-of-the-holster/246466#246466">the post</a> and correct the edit.

And I've just rechecked the application PDF and every email I've ever been sent containing "NHS" or "honor" and none have a digital form attached

6:29 PM
jeez I leave for 3 hours and @tjjfvi becomes the rightful ruler of england

yeah i'm going to go vote in favor of the off-topic room. although it's already quite negatively voted so idk if it'll pass the votes but it's probably reasonable if I + some ROs decide we want to to overrule the vote?

7:08 PM
@hyper-neutrino i mean, people are welcome to make a room, and if one is created, I'll direct people to use it, but I don't think its necessary to make one in the first place

TIL the concert I'm going to in August was originally supposed to be nearly two years before but got postponed twice due to COVID lol

@hyper-neutrino I don't think you should be able to overrule the vote

Well, I don't think the votes are saying "this is an idea that will cause harm", rather "this just isn't worth the work". Since we're the ones doing the work, my understanding is that nobody would really have a problem with it.
But it's kind of unclear why the downvotes are there in the first place

So, here for another hour

Where is it you'll be going?

7:14 PM
@pxeger Agreed. DEMOCRACY
@RadvylfPrograms Camping

Oh, sorry for your loss.

of internet?

Of sanity and internet and whatever else you lose while camping

@pxeger agree

7:22 PM
@RadvylfPrograms My downvote is there to say "I disagree that this is necessary"

^

7:38 PM
i mean since it is a vote for necessity and not a vote for permittance that's why i think it's valid if ros want it still
if it were a vote for "should we be allowed to do this" then definitely no
either way fair enough though. i just think that we're getting too much noise that is so noisy it can't even belong in its own room without the room just dying after 2 messages cuz it goes nowhere
but, you are still correct that if it's not voted for (and especially since it's not just not top-votes but negative score) we should follow the democratic vote since it also decides where things are moved to, so i retract that

1 hour later…

@RadvylfPrograms Any progress on either of your KoTH ideas?

No, writing a KotH controller is something I'll be a bit too busy to do for the next month or so
