5:00 PM
@rak1507 why

mine is 4428÷36

or i guess you can consider both but then if we want to get technical it would make more sense to count votes for everything because caps will make the count inaccurate

@Wasif mine is, because it is a whole number

@hyper-neutrino 20.5060852

123.0

5:00 PM
wait how is yours so high lol, bounties?

yep

How do y'all have such high average reps?

Mine's high from questions

@user bounties are our (open) secrets

Ignoring answers mine's probably closer to 100 or 150

5:01 PM
mine is 40.24, 42 without considering bounties

@Wasif Oh, makes sense. I only have a +50 net gain from bounties :(

@hyper-neutrino few answers, most of them bountied

i have a net loss of 1400 from bounties so factoring them out it's 41.95

CMQ: your whole network rep/answer ratio?

5:02 PM
I also don't answer a lot of old questions, so rarely get 0/1 score

most answers get zero so the more answers you have it probably brigs down the average

@Wasif counting association bonus? :P

I have 42.9 not counting awarded bounties, which isn't a ton better

@UnrelatedString yes

@Razetime I don't have a single 0 :P

5:02 PM
network-wide answers?
i have a bunch of zero-voted posts that probably nobody saw which definitely brings down my average :P

@Razetime 972 answers is really great, you might be the second top answerer here
I wanna break that record

good luck

Quality over quantity :)

I think the highest is Shaggy?

My next question or answer will be my hundredth post

5:03 PM
i only have 719 answers lol

@rak1507 idk about others, but Razetime's are usually pretty high quality

41 answers with 0 score here

I only have 36 answers

i have like 4 whole pages of answers with 0 score

out of 398

5:04 PM
@user yeah, I know, I'm just kidding, his answers are very good

I have 299 answers, I need just one more

@hyper-neutrino wow

I have nearly 20 pages of 0 score answers in SO :-(

that would kill my soul

because i answer old questions that aren't too interesting a good amount, and usually very late (in america/europe time)

5:05 PM
The trick is to answer an old question, then edit it every day for two months until people see your answer. You can also create sockpuppets to upvote and/or flag, so mods will see it and upvote it (/s, obviously)

I answer old questions for the express purpose of bringing down 05AB1E's rating
7

i have no negative score (undeleted) posts

@Wasif The next updoot factoid will be when I reach the holy K, and it will hopefully be about more Python

@Razetime You should post bad answers in Jelly so that Husk wins

Ugh my koth controller is on my other laptop...the broken one

5:06 PM
lmao

oh no

@hyper-neutrino Given 776 rep, minus 250 from bounties, we get 526
I have 33 answers

oh no sorry i have 28 pages of zero score answers

It works!!!!!!
It works!
YEEESSSSSS!!!!!

poggers

5:07 PM
@RedwolfPrograms what works

@Wasif It.

Stupid sky with all its sky water

Therefore 526/33 avg. post rep

breaking my stuff

which is 16

5:08 PM
@user this will not work because caird will suggest a golf to halve the bytecount in 5 secs

@RedwolfPrograms Next time you're in such a situation, chant the magic words "Rain, rain, go away, come again another day, if you do, I'll give you ten bucks"

you could buy an umbrella for less

@Razetime Don't accept it then

or you could just cover your entire body in thick layers of oil
8

that's not how it works :P

5:09 PM
@hyper-neutrino Where's the fun in that?

@rak1507 fly

I actually have a rain jacket in my backpack but I was too stubborn to wear it

brilliant

lol
really? that got 6 stars? you people are weird

have you heard of deez

5:10 PM
memes always get starred
@StackMeter blocked

@StackMeter That's exactly why rak posted that

i dont entirely understand the process behind stars
11

@Wasif No one does, people are weird ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

@Wasif you just click the star
that is the process

oh come on

5:10 PM
aha you guys would give me outspoken soon

it's not even deez nuts this time

You see this message of mine? Go to the right side and hover. You'll see three symbols, a flag, a star, and an arrow thingy. Click the star.

or the flag

no

ngn
@user that's not how it works. now watch this:

5:11 PM

I swear, my messages get 0 stars

ngn
don't star this message

I'd forgotten what it was like to be able to see deleted posts

@UnrelatedString is that post deleted?

@ngn ok :)

ngn
5:12 PM
didn't work :)

@ngn challenge accepted

We are at .01 stars/post

@hyper-neutrino hard to say

@ngn how did you know Unrelated would post the image

your reverse psychology won't work on me!

5:12 PM
@ngn TNB's too obedient :P

alternative theory: redwolf is clearing the stars too fast so even before someone's starred it their star gets removed
6

The one time TNB does what we're supposed to

@RedwolfPrograms Wait, what are we supposed to do?

@hyper-neutrino you are really speed

@user Not star ngn's message

5:13 PM
I thought this was just a place for people to talk about food, star stupid stuff, and spam

Redwolf Programs has changed this room's topic to: a place for people to talk about food, star stupid stuff, and spam

room topic changed to The Nineteenth Bar: a place for people to talk about food, star stupid stuff, and spam
Oh, I forgot - we also rickroll and hate on SQL, JS, and Java

I'm surprised we get so little spam about actual golf

@hyper-neutrino 39.5 including deleted posts, 44.9 not including deleted posts

Yep
16 here

5:16 PM
Golf is a club-and-ball sport in which players use various clubs to hit balls into a series of holes on a course in as few strokes as possible. Golf, unlike most ball games, cannot and does not utilize a standardized playing area, and coping with the varied terrains encountered on different courses is a key part of the game. The game at the usual level is played on a course with an arranged progression of 18 holes, though recreational courses can be smaller, often having nine holes. Each hole on the course must contain a teeing ground to start from, and a putting green containing the actual hole...

ah, nice

@user we hate JS?

Actually 15 31/33

@Wasif I halfway don't

@Wasif You better hate JS. Otherwise, you're no better than Redwolf

5:16 PM
But I need to make myself feel slightly better without rickrolling someone

@Wasif You know Neil has >4000 answers?

@cairdcoinheringaahing no oO

Shaggy has 1000+ Japt answers

Shaggy's a Rockstar developer :P

Japt is nearly dead now isn't it

5:18 PM
japt has etheryte? I guess?
and AZTECCO

@UnrelatedString 178 zero score posts

and Shaggy still posting

so japt is far from dead

I think Shaggy's less active recently

5:18 PM
is Japt full ASCII? or it has unicode

Japt is very unicode

but it has lack of builtins?

nope not at all
it is well endowed

@Razetime -67 bytes: caird will golf it

@Razetime um

5:19 PM
@cairdcoinheringaahing loses the specificity

@UnrelatedString Congrats on 10k btw!

Every message on the starboard (other than mine) has 4+ stars. Someone might think they were very high quality if they didn't look too closely

@user Let me just fix that

high quality? in TNB?

5:22 PM
All of them except for the pinned message were just starred because they're funny :)

@cairdcoinheringaahing Thanks, now it's time to star that CMC :P

what CMC

oh I forgot about makonede's cmc to make a quine in his language, I was going to do that today but I forgot, darn

5:23 PM
I don't entirely understand the process behind stars, or you could just c o v e r y o u r e n t i r e b o d y w i t h o i l

I will probably do it tomorrow

@rak1507 2. wait for it to rain

@rak1507 i again forgot the pronounciation of the language
does anyone remember

@Wasif I forgot what the language is even called
duo....something....hexadecimal

5:24 PM
@Wasif Adám's CMC about the shortest acronym that Wikipedia has an article for

something like Duocent...

duocentehexa something

oh it doesn't even end hexadecimal

duocentehexaquinquagesimal?

@RedwolfPrograms yes!!!

5:25 PM
I call it 'base 256 bf'

the pronounciation
@RedwolfPrograms i bet makonede starred the messages

I call it "Makonede's 05AB1E" :P

it is mix of 4 langs: Brainfuck+05AB1E+Unary+Golunar wow

@Wasif seen 6m ago so I don't think so

@Wasif More like a tree

5:26 PM
@Wasif I wouldn't say it's a 'mix' of those langs

Brainfuck -> Unary -> Golunar -> Duocentehexaquinquagesimal <- 05AB1E

golunar is base 10 bf, duocentehexaquinquagesimal is base 256 bf that happens to use osabie's codepage

Why were there no new questions for over 2 years after the first one on the site was posted? Was the oldest one migrated at some point? codegolf.stackexchange.com/questions?tab=newest&page=818

@pxeger It got migrated

@pxeger who knows

5:27 PM
one could consider it a triple derivative of brainfuck but it doesn't really need to be

We went into private beta on 23rd Feb 2011, that was a SO question that go migrated in like 2013

unary is base 1 encoded BF, golunar is just base 10 BF so it doesn't need to be considered a unary derivative, and duocente can just be a direct derivative

I wonder what could be after Duocentehexaquinquagesimal or is it the end (not counting 05AB1E)

@hyper-neutrino I would say unary, golunar, and duocentehexaquinquagesimal are all bf derivatives, not derivatives of each other

agreed. even though the creation order was unary > golunar > duocente

5:28 PM
@Wasif pretty much the end

I think they were inspired by each other in that order

@Wasif Stax style compression

maybe

although the wiki written by makonede says it's a triple-derivative

true
well, whatever
semantics :P

5:29 PM
we would call it StaxFuck

the official interpreter calls on /opt/brainfuck/brainfuck though, not golunar

more like base94fuck

i feel like good bf compression would 1. incorporate rle and 2. not be capable of expanding to programs that are either illegal or contain obvious redundancy
er, no-ops
rather

bye i am feeling sleepy

5:30 PM
@UnrelatedString huffman coding may be suitable?

@Wasif goodnight

being able to compress patterns would also be nice. but yes, RLE is definitely something that should be included

Huffman coding with some extra stuff to prevent redundant stuff would be nice

+x[>+y<-] could be encoded since it's probably very common

5:31 PM
Maybe RLE for +s and -s only

ngn
huffman coding is optimal only if you encode symbol by symbol

Or < and > too I guess

CMC: enumerate all valid bf programs

maybe > and < too

Huffman coding, given there are only 6 instructions, might not be very effective compared to just 3-bit packing

5:31 PM
(actually, this would be a decent main challenge)
so don't answer it!

also compress [] in a way that can't result in unmatched braces

ngn
arithmetic coding is better in general

@pxeger Huffman coding with groups of characters

@hyper-neutrino at that point you've just got a dedicated multiplication instruction and it's no longer BF though

define vaild; just balanced []?

5:32 PM
@RedwolfPrograms I suppose that works

@pxeger well true

hmm idk maybe that wouldn't be particularly interesting

in that case, go ahead :P

@rak1507 Easy - generate all strings, run them as bf programs in different universes, time travel to the end of the universe, and see which ones halted :P

5:33 PM
@rak1507 this sounds very suitable for husk

maybe a more interesting challenge would be to golf a bijection between the natural numbers and all valid brainfuck programs
@user who says all valid programs halt?

@rak1507 Ooh, that sounds cool
@rak1507 Oh, that's even easier then

and preferably to do it in a way that means it doesn't just compute all of them and index

You can just destroy this universe so no one has to be worried about bf or code golf

so you could say 'what's the 209347207539th bf program' and it could spit it out

5:34 PM
@user Working on it

and then that can be a slightly golfier version of unary, golunar, duowhatever...

duocentehexaquinquagesimal?

@RedwolfPrograms Evacuates universe

@RedwolfPrograms indeed

metaBFscript

5:34 PM
That's a fun word to type

hahaha

Dang, you beat me by half a second
I was going to move it to trash though lol

fun fact: if you try to move messages that are already moved, it just silently does nothing
i was going to mod trash it
we all had different ideas :p

i am speed :P

I am busy :p

lmao
@StackMeter thanks for sharing

5:47 PM
i hesitated too long on whether to nuke, delete, IGS, normal trash, or mod trash it

@hyper-neutrino So many options!

I feel personally attacked out here

I'm hesitating on kicking Stack or not, but I think I'll leave it this time

@StackMeter I don't know what you expected

with the fact I was demoted to Indonesian Gambling Spam

5:48 PM
IGS is our trash room

@StackMeter Don't post inappropriate messages and then turn around and claim to be "attacked" because we trashed them

Sorry

Anyway, @StackMeter, please familiarize yourself with the chatiquette. Specifically, "Don't use The Nineteenth Byte as a dumping ground for your thoughts or actions. Consider whether a topic would be relevant to others before talking about it. We're here to have discussions, not to listen to someone's stream of consciousness." and besides, it's inappropriate for SE anyway.

Sorry
I won't do it again

PSA: --array.length is valid JS

5:51 PM
Just don't kick me

Getting kick-muted isn't too big of a deal anyway, just FWIW. If you repeatedly get kicked the time will stack up but it's just 30 seconds IIRC and it's just a warning.

@RedwolfPrograms What does it do? Remove the last element or just return array.length - 1?

Don't think it was necessarily kick worthy, just...don't do it again :p

@RedwolfPrograms didn't we say we hate JS here

Besides, asking to not get kicked will not affect whether or not you get kicked :P I decided to neither nuke it nor kick you because I didn't think it was that serious to warrant more than just a verbal (textual?) warning.

5:52 PM
@user It removes the last item of the array and returns the new length

does it actually remove the item or just reduce the length so loops won't hit the last item

Very nice

@hyper-neutrino Removes it

that's interesting lol

and if it seems to remove the last item for more purposes, does it magically come back if you increment the length

5:54 PM
No
> (5) [0, 1, 2, 3, empty]

forgot that js lets arrays have empty elements
that aren't null or undefined

JS's arrays are beyond wack

Probably because you can set negative elements and stuff

it's a third thing
also you can set fractional elements

Arrays are basically just objects

5:55 PM
you can do a = []; a[0] = 1; a[1000] = 1; which is pretty cool

@UnrelatedString o.O How?

With extra steps

the other stuff like negative indices and fractional elements are........... more silly than cool

array[0.5] = 1
It's actually array["0.5"] = 1 I think, not sure

5:56 PM
iirc if you have an array [1, 2] and set the element at .5 to 3 it still just displays as [1,2]
pretty sure it works with actual floats

@RedwolfPrograms This looks like it came out of Harry Potter

maybe they're strings under the hood
because it's js, why wouldn't they be

I thought they were Symbols

plot twist: everything in JS is strings under the hood

@hyper-neutrino 10 out of 10 string theorists agree :P

5:57 PM
It's not symbols

Ok
Fractional indices aren't for computing

TBF they aren't even really indices
It's more like properties

Nor this world

Like .map
I think technically JS's array indices are all strings

ngn
> Array.prototype[123]=456
456
> [][123]
456

6:00 PM
They most like are not stored that way (strings) by any sane browser though

@ngn Isn't monkey patching great?

@RedwolfPrograms there's no such thing as a sane browser, they are all cursed abominations that commit unspeakable crimes

ngn
@user it's great for monkeys :)

@rak1507 What about Vivaldi?

If you have a damaged monkey, patching it is often better than the alternative

6:03 PM
I hate to ask, but what's the alternative?

@user still chromium based
@user turning it into monkey pie

I did not need that image in my head
@rak1507 What about Firefox?

SpiderMonkey pie

If you like monkey pie, you may like this (Warning: monkey brains)

6:06 PM
@user firefox probably does a bunch of weird stuff too :P
running JS at all automatically makes you bad

Sorry about the image being up there btw, don't know how to immediately un-onebox it

upload it manually

@RedwolfPrograms where did the monkey come from

@rak1507 Then there's no hope for anyone unless all browsers somehow switch to using some other language instead
@hyper-neutrino Does that let you edit it before uploading?

@user true

6:07 PM
i meant upload it to imgur manually

hope was lost a long time ago

@rak1507 Thank God my JS don't run correctly

and then just use the link from that

Oh, I'll try that next time

I just start to draft an answer, upload an image, copy the link, and discard the draft

6:08 PM
that works too

That sounds like a lot of work :( I think I'll go with HN's solution

Uploading to imgur is what sounds like a lot of work

For a second there I was afraid You Know Who was back

Wait wrong tab
Ignore that
Used TNB as a pastebin lol

ngn
6:25 PM
cmp: how would you describe the geometric loci x^2 + y^2 = r^2 and x^2 + y^2 <= r^2 in english?

Outline of circle of radius r, shaded circle of radius r?

@ngn The first is a circle and the second is a circle filled in

@ngn A circle, filled in

ngn
@user @StackMeter @cairdcoinheringaahing interesting. i would use similar words too (in english), but: "in strict technical usage, the circle is only the boundary and the whole figure is called a disc" -W

The real question is what would $\x^2 + y^2 > r^2$\ look like

6:31 PM
A plane with a disc cut out

@user what's the red
Is it a LaTeX feature

it means the control sequence \x is not defined

ngn
@ngn here i used the wrong word ("circumference") to describe the curve (not its length)
@StackMeter shouldn't the backslashes be before the dollars?

ChatJax (or whatever userscript I'm using) lets you use a single dollar sign (or two dollar signs if you don't want it inline)

Wzl
6:44 PM
@RedwolfPrograms I'm just as surprised we get so little spam about code golf :P

ok
\$x^2 + y^2 >= r^2\$

Finished terrain generation for hunter-gatherer!
Well, aside from lakes

Wzl
does it have cats?

Do you want cats to be hunted and/or gathered?
I didn't think so.

Wzl
gathered
or does that mean they'll get eaten or made into armor?

6:54 PM
Both, potentially

ngn
cats should be hunting, not hunted :)

Wzl
then definitely gathered

@RedwolfPrograms yeah, I need a companion at somepoint

Wzl
cat armor is much more effective if the cats are alive

I'm going with lakes rather than rivers as they're easier to make look good
And they fulfill about the same strategic purpose

Wzl
6:57 PM
you should totally drop that and add jQuery instead

what would the terrain of jquery look like?

Wzl
like the surface of a waffle
