2:05 AM
um why is that expected

Oh if you want to do that just do a for print to not move the cursor
Or use newline

@Downgoat I don't get it why is this expected

@ASCII-only I want to move pencil to top left corner

@Downgoat Um you can't, you can only move in a certain direction

:|
how would you draw:

in Charcoal then?

2:08 AM
P³↓² I think?

oh
I see thanks
btw can you fix ^C bug which closes REPL

yeah just need to push
What happens when you do arrow/ctrl+a/ctrl+e? (and what do you expect to happen)

@ASCII-only if I do left arrow for example, I expect it to move left instead of outputting ^[[D, doing ^A is control code to beginning of line and ^E for end of line

CMC: Tell what object(s) in your backpack/bookbag would raise the most questions but is really innocent.
I for one right now have two largeish containers of white powder
They are filled with very fine sugar

I have a 350 Watt laptop charger.

2:13 AM
I reckon my computer could raise a lot of exceptions ending in question marks

What is REPEL?
pls don't make fun
@ГригорийПерельман that seems high
@DestructibleLemon ^.^

I would have made a proper answer if I could have

My Desktop, which has two Enthusiast-grade graphics cards, clocks in at 350 watts.

I have no idea why anyone decided that a 350 watt laptop charget should be a thing.

Q: Fill in an increasing sequence with as many numbers as possible

Helka HombaA list of numbers is called monotonically increasing (or nondecreasing) is every element is greater than or equal to the element before it. For example, 1, 1, 2, 4, 5, 5, 5, 8, 10, 11, 14, 14 is monotonically increasing. Given a monotonically increasing list of positive integers that has an arb...

Also that reminds me of that guy that got detained in indonesia or something because he had bags of white powder but they turned out to be paracetamol

But still what is RPEL if you care to share ping me as I am heading to bed. Bye! o/

@DownChristopher You mean a Read Eval Print Loop? (i.e. a command line interpreter)
That's what downgoat was talking about. REPL.

why is this the wikipedia page for repel
Repel is a commune in the Vosges department in Grand Est in northeastern France. == References... ==
theres no disambiguation even

Because REPL is not an everyday word and Wikipedia is not perfect?

2:21 AM
Reppel is a word

@HelkaHomba I'm not talking about repl anymore, but you would have thought repel would have links to repellent or repellor or anything about repellence

'Repel' is a verb and Wikipedia documents nouns. If you want a noun form, try repulsion?

hmm, why does ^a|b$ match aa at regex101.com ?
it says full match
it even matches ax

@aditsu Because it's matching ^a or b$

wat ><

2:26 AM
Ah, I see
You want ^[ab]$

I think that will work

I thought ^ and $ had priority

Why wouldn't it work?

2:27 AM
Yeah both work but I'd go for Mister Figgins'
@aditsu No they don't

@aditsu AFAIK they are like other characters

@ASCII-only True, but mine works in the general case.

@aditsu Regex101 even says 1st alternative ^a

I guess I tend to discard information when it doesn't make sense :p

@Downgoat ok halp on windows ansi codes don't work even with colorama, on linux you can't edit input without backspacing

2:31 AM
what's wrong with backspacing?

@aditsu nothing, it's just inconvenient
wait nvm it's fixed

No fgitwers?

@ASCII-only colorama?

yeah it's to get ansi codes on windows

@ThomasWard What brings you in here?

2:37 AM
@Mendeleev the unfortunate habit of hitting the "Join all favorite rooms" button whenever I load chat.

Oh.

(TNB is on my favorites list)

@ThomasWard o_O that exists?
Why haven't I known about this

@MistahFiggins Yep
@MistahFiggins Chaos and its corresponding chaotic layout for the chat pages was blinding you to it, maybe?

@MistahFiggins Yeah I do that every time I enter TNB

2:38 AM
> enter TNB
nice pun

@Mendeleev why did you think i appeared, though :P

@ThomasWard Flags

> A wild Thomas Ward appeared!

@Mendeleev there's many different reasons a diamond user would appear in a chat room. Flags is the most likely reason, the second most likely reason is they like lurking in the room and reading things.

2:40 AM
FIGHT PKMN
ITEM  RUN

So, because the TIO version for Befunge-98 stalls on EOF with & (but not ~, strangely enough), can I use that to end my program?
Because TIO auto-ends it after 1 min

TacO is turing complete!
And I have no idea why!

@Downgoat still haven't had time for gitgoat yet sorry

@MistahFiggins Yes, Implementation defined Language, and this is TIO implementation.

2:43 AM
@ThomasWard were the flags bad?

That's what I thought. Yay!

@Dennis Is TIO open source?

@Riker there were flags?
I just hit the "join favorite rooms" button.
TNB is on my favorite rooms list :)
(mostly for the chaos factor xD)

I just hit EXP level 30 in Minecraft!
Gotta go enchant something before I die and lose it

@Downgoat ok all fixed

2:44 AM
@ThomasWard oh
I read the transcript and thought it was flags
I'm a little tired + dazed right now sorry

you didn't read far enough back then :)

¯\_(ツ)_/¯ apparently not

7 mins ago, by Thomas Ward
@Mendeleev the unfortunate habit of hitting the "Join all favorite rooms" button whenever I load chat.

lol
@ASCII-only this is oddly funny

@Riker 'tis fine, we all have those days.

2:45 AM
ye

@ГригорийПерельман You can't escape!

@Riker oddly funny?

yeah

@ГригорийПерельман Wild Thomas Ward used 'Chaos Beam'. One-hit KO! [WIN]

I find your message more amusing than rational thought tells me I should

2:46 AM
@Riker how, 2 is even (so is 22)

anyways, i had my fun :)

@ASCII-only .... >_>
@ThomasWard are you leaving?

@Riker nope, just drifting back to my python code. And testing SmokeDetector features. (In the middle or a refactor)

@Mendeleev MIT

ah

2:47 AM
@ГригорийПерельман The worst part is waiting a minute just to see if what you did worked

you can't leave I have pupper gif

@Dennis OK, is the code on GitHub/similar?

@Riker gif != gifv

it was a gif
then I realized people would get mad if I linked a massive gif

@Riker that's adorable
Dammit

2:48 AM
wow, i just realized how privileged I am to have a 200Mbps download link then o.O

I mean I view it fine

Efficiency 4 and nothing else. 30lvl enchant. -_-

@ThomasWard I have 175mbit link, but my dad refuses to get a new wired router so we can actually use it, so I'm stuck at 25mbps

Jan 13 '16 at 22:52, by Dennis
I have slow internet and pay per byte...

2:49 AM
Our wireless access points are more than fast enough to handle it

not everybodys are though
so I didn't onebox

@Mendeleev I'm... struggling to get past the 'new wired router' part. A new wired router is pretty cheap in the consumer market nowadays...

sue me for being nice :p

@ThomasWard uhh... we want to get a business oriented one. the erlite-3 stands out, it's $100
@Dennis Thanks

2:50 AM
@Riker overnight mails you a summons for a civil court proceeding in US Federal Court, for $50,000 for excessive niceness

well shit

        @%l>>>>>42

        3i#i2
          i
In TacO, that prints all the factors of, in this case, 42.

@Mendeleev I guess being an IT Security guy makes me biased, my 'wired' router is a pfSense firewall appliance (with an HA failover pfSense in a VM on one of my hypervisors), and a good bit of switches and equipment in addition to that :P

And I have no idea why.

@ThomasWard I would have liked to set up one of the Optiplex computers I have with pfSense, etc. to act as a router, but it only has one Ethernet port. I don't have an expansion card.

2:53 AM
@Mendeleev does it have an expansion slot, either PCI or PCI Express?
because I can probably find a few of those dirt cheap xD

@ThomasWard yes one of each, they're half height though.

digs around his massive stockpile of crap to see if he has one

yaaaaaay diamonds

2:56 AM
@ThomasWard yes, AFAIK that would work

I think I have a similar card lying around, but if not I can probably find one at my workplace that's lying around in a junk drawer with the low-profile bracket to go with it

Cool!
@ThomasWard If you find one would it be possible to mail it to onetimesecret.com/secret/1azgez7q576m3v41no1h4g451k8hov4 ? (Passphrase is the full name of this chatroom)

Probably, if you don't mind USPS Priority Mail delivery.
and if I don't have one I can probably grab you one after the 20th (payday!) - I need a couple myself

@ThomasWard The shipping charges?

@Mendeleev $7.50 flat rate.
i have a lot of flat rate stuff lying around after shipping EBrown (from the Code Review site) some stuff xD
@Mendeleev also UPS and FedEx charge outrageous rates :p
but they should be able to deliver nonetheless :)

3:00 AM
@ThomasWard OK, can I discuss this later? I don't have a job yet so I would have to get money through other means

no rush :P

OK thanks

@Mendeleev "Get to it when you get to it, I don't care about $8 in the long grand scheme of things"
that's assuming i have a spare around, if not i'll obtain a few for myself and send you one. I literally can never have enough network expansion cards xD
especially with how many hypervisors I have and how many network uplinks I want those to have :P
(my one hypervisor, has 2 x [ 4 x Intel Gigabit Ethernet Port ] PCIe cards in it... total of 9 physical NICs now xD)

My server ownership/knowledge is basically 0 compared to some of the people here
My "server" is an Optiplex 755 with 4GB DDR2-667 RAM and Core 2 Duo E7500 with poorly applied thermal paste

i come from a tech background - i'm a systems administrator, and a Linux one to boot.
My servers are a repurposed, refurbished HP Z400 workstation, and a 'from parts' server that is literally just parts sitting on top of an old server case and an antistatic surface I had lying around.

3:04 AM
@ThomasWard yeah I have three Linux VPSs, a Linux server, and I run Linux on all my computers, but I still probably have much less knowledge

And a desktop that's always on, and my laptop, and a BUTT LOAD of VPSes.

you know it's a lot when you have all caps

@Mendeleev I've been working in Linux stuff since 2009, at Carnegie Mellon University, where the entire backend is Linux/UNIX/Kerberos

I also would like to set up my Dell Precision T3500 workstation as a server. It would have a 4C/8T Xeon and 6GB RAM.

so since then I just stick to Linux :P
@Riker How's 20 sound to you?

3:05 AM
?

20 VPSes, each with an IPv4 address and an entire IPv6 /64 for no extra charge.
is that a lot in your mind?
'Cause that's how many I have :)
Excluding of course the numerous VMs I run on my hypervisors

@ThomasWard Is there a free hypervisor that is easy to learn?
I am currently using VirtualBox for my vWLC

@Mendeleev VMware ESXi free edition.

@ThomasWard yes :p

but you need a dedicated box to run ESXi on, and at least 4GB RAM and a dual core CPU (quad recommended)

3:08 AM
@ThomasWard THere's a free version? I thought it was enterprise licensed stuff.
Hmmm, might have to look into it.
@ThomasWard I have exactly that.

True, the full VMware ESXi vSphere software is very expensive and licensed per the number of CPUs.

Wait, it's called "vSphere Hypervisor" now?

@Mendeleev the free edition, yes.
super limited feature set but a good way to 'get started'
until Penn State added me to the main campus ITS OnTheHub program/account, I didn't have the ability to get the full software.
But I have it now for free thanks to being a student. And the vCenter management stuff too.
(after I graduate, though, I'mma get the perpetual license, that's a one-time purchase of several thousand dollars, though I think my workplace would be willing to pay part since I do a lot of off-site testing of things for them on my infra)
@Mendeleev evil though: you need a Windows VM for the vSphere Client to get it fully set up
but that's not hard, esp. if you just install Win7 and don't activate it
and afterwards you just install the web client 'plugin' that's on the VMware FLings site.
though, ESXi 6.5+ ships it by default, so heh
i have a windows VM on one of the hypervisors with the vSphere client. Manage everything from the VM, or the web interface, or my VMware Workstation that I have (that one's not free, I purchase that every time a new version comes out, but upgrade licenses are cheaper heh)
@Mendeleev Totally unrelated, I found these on eBay refurb'd for about $10 each lol

3:23 AM
@ThomasWard How is it limited?
@ThomasWard I have a Tiny7 VM that I can use. Average memory usage of the VM is under 100MB.

PokeQueueing With Friends You're with your best bud, Jim, at the amusement park and as your favorite ride comes into view, you and Jim exchange glances. Naturally you race to get in line. Unfortunately he wins because you're a golfer and he plays a real sport (sorry friends). In fact, you're so far ...

@Mendeleev Well...
@Mendeleev basically, in some of the advanced feature sets. You get the basics - switches, networking, volumes, VMs, but...
Unlimited virtual SMP
H.264 for Remote Console Connections
vCenter agent for VMware host
vSphere API
Content Library
Storage APIs
VMsafe
vSphere vMotion
X-Switch vMotion
vSphere HA
vSphere Data Protection
vShield Endpoint
vSphere Replication
vShield Zones
Hot-Pluggable virtual HW
vSphere Storage vMotion
Shared Smart Card Reader
vSphere FT (up to 4 virtual CPUs)
Virtual Volumes
APIs for Storage Awareness
Storage-Policy Based Management
vSphere Storage APIs for Array Integration
vSphere DRS
Remote virtual Serial Port Concentrator
^ that is the full feature set in a vSphere Enterprise Plus license.
lots more security, configuration, etc. stuff

@ThomasWard Those are all missing?
What is vSphere FT?

No, i'm getting a comparison shortlyt
@Mendeleev fault tolerance.

ah

3:29 AM
I just ran timeout 5 cat /dev/urandom > foo.txt. I got a 5 gigabyte file.
Never again

@Mendeleev the 'free' version comes with Up to 8-way virtual SMP, plus the basics (vSwitch, VMs, virtual drives, volumes, etc.)
@Mendeleev the more advanced features, like vMotion for 'Hey it's offline move to another hypervisor" are not in the 'free' license.
(I had to add my "free" license to the vCenter licenses list to see the specifics heh)

aight let me install the hypervisor on my server

Good news is, you get unlimited physical CPUs in that :P

Is there any way of using someone else's license?

probably?
as long as you don't hook up vCenter you might be able to use another license...

3:31 AM
Also, can I virtualize my existing Linux installation? I would move it to a USB connected storage device.

@Mendeleev Yes you can but you need to have it 'online' to start the virtualization process, and a Windows system to use the vCenter Converter via SSH and a root account for filesystem traversal and cloning.
it takes a while. But it's doable.

Ehh.

I converted a handful of my Linux machines to VMs, to dump the old hardware and limit my power consumption to just the machines I care about
(power bills got high heh)

Is it possible to just make a VM, then connect the hard drive to the VM and boot the VM from it?

@Mendeleev Not done it, but maybe?
I don't think you can with a physical drive though, not really

3:33 AM
:(

You can probably create a disk image with a .img file and convert that to VMware format after uploading it...
but i've not done that recently either.
Besides, my primary Linux machine is my laptop so :p
(and that has a 2TB hard disk in it, too big for my volume stores on my hypervisor unfortunately)

Apparently you can connect it and then use Plop to chainload it.
BRB swapping out disk

@Mendeleev cool, I was able to pick up 3 of those ethernet cards I linked earlier for $22.50 off eBay, i guess many people are OK with negotiating xD

That was completely unintentional!!!

@Mendeleev lies :P

3:35 AM
@HelkaHomba can I use character codes as input, even if the language supports integer input?

well that was easy to get more expansion cards :)
three are going in this desktop here. Then I can take this 4-porter and put it in my 'server from parts' hypervisor heh

Cool

Wheat WizardEscape You find yourself on a chessboard, as one does. You can see the exit but it is awfully far away and you would rather not walk all the way. Luckily some locals have offered you a ride. A knight, a rook, a bishop and a king are all willing to take you to your destination, but seeing how t...

i'm sorry, two are going in this desktop. One is going to you, and the 4-port NIC in the desktop goes into the hypervisor.
i misspoke :)

Any way to chain boot the ESXi ISO from GRUB?

3:38 AM
@Mendeleev not sure, I've never done it outside of pure bare-metal.

I'd like to have it on my multiboot flash drive.

oh, pretty sure you can
haven't tested it but you can try
i can try and test tomorrow once i get an updated ISO

@ThomasWard I just downloaded the ISO, I can upload it to my VPS?

@Mendeleev might check with your VPS host first, and only if it's a KVM VPS

@ThomasWard huh? why?
I didn't mean to install it...

3:40 AM
OH to store it
yeah you can do that

also, it is KVM, but you can't upload custom images, just their templates.

Question, Does a Turing Complete language need to be able to implement a truth machine? Or, is being able to run infinitely a requirement?

OK, uploading at ~3 MB/s
~2 now

@ATaco Yes
Remember, it's impossible to determine if a program in a TC language halts.

@ThomasWard ETA 02:15

3:44 AM
timezone offset is...?

Darn, Because a Post-Compiled TacO program will always halt.

@ThomasWard That's in relative minutes

ah OK

also, -8

thought that was a full timestamp

3:44 AM
But, it can factorize and it doesn't even have actual multiplication or division.

i'm also tired (23:44 here)

sorry

@MistahFiggins no

no problem :)

Stupid stalling on EOF with &. The specs say it should reverse the IP...

3:51 AM
The In Put?

@feersum Instruction Pointer AFAIK

Hey could I get someone to play a game against? I have a chess-like game and I want to try to play against someone other than myself.

@WheatWizard What is the game?

Chess except the winner looses

so, anti-chess

3:56 AM
1. Resign

which already exists heh

@feersum I doubt that is allowed ;)

Too late, I already won.

@WheatWizard where & how?

lies - only the diamonds won.

3:57 AM
@ThomasWard Yes I just wanted to try to play a game

@MistahFiggins I could make a chat room and we could say moves (e.g. B3-B4)

@WheatWizard Not right now, but maybe over the weekend or smth

Ok I just wanted to play a casual game real quick. I'll probably have become interested with something else by the weekend
