@Lembik Perhaps not but ironically Seriously is written in Python.

@TùxCräftîñg TIL

Running apgsearch 0 on root AQ, 10000 soups.
checks running census
2500 soups!
Running at 14 per second.

@zʏᴀʙiɴ101 wat
how is it so slow

I'm using my old humble computer and Golly and apgsearch 0.

i am creating a automated sh file to build asm files
#!/bin/sh

asmfiles=$(find ./src -type f -name '*.asm')
for file in $asmfiles; do
    echo "Assembling $file..."
    nasm -f bin -o obj/$file.os $file
done
but the path is invalid and idk how to split a string in sh
.os is for assembly object

1:16 PM
Half way!

and the solution and new shell file is?
Running at 13 per second.

nope not found

@TùxCräftîñg You don't need to split a string for a for loop in sh.
Two thirds!

@zʏᴀʙiɴ101 the strings return by find are ./src/<file>, so -o obj/./src/<file>.os is not really valid
i am trying to create a thing with perl

1:20 PM
Almost there!
@TùxCräftîñg Okay then, solve that problem somehow, bring the shell file and I can translate it into make!
(make is the industry standard for automated build process.)
Homestretch!

make is evil

make is not evil.
make is good.
Finish!

D:\CaDOS>perl -e "printf((split/\//,<>)[-1])"
./src/hi.asm
hi.asm
sh*t it's ugly

@TùxCräftîñg It's not ugly, it's golfy.
Golfiness at the top of all, y'know. ;)

codegolf had a bad influence on my style, it's official xD
it's slow but it's work
i am creating a calculator os for x86
so it's why the folder i am in is named CaDOS

1:26 PM
@TùxCräftîñg Remember: nothing is evil.
(except viruses, of course)

make, vi, nano and ed are evil

@TùxCräftîñg ^^^

nope, they aren't evil.

yes they are evil

1:27 PM
WAT
They aren't evil

yes they are

Let's stop this argument, before <insert Stack Exchange mod here> moves us, non-guilty, to Trash.

Dark is more evil

First, make is not evil because it's industry standard used by, like, every dev in the world.

1:31 PM
ಠ_ಠ

Second, vi is not evil because... erm... quickly checks 'vi' in 'evil' it's evil. o_o

you see vi is evil

Third, nano is possibly the simplest editor. It's obviously not the most evil editor.
Fourth, ed is the standard text editor.

ed rhyme with ev, so ed is evil

Text edits are disallowed. ;)
@TùxCräftîñg Wolfram|Alpha is another opinion about that. Just search rhymes with ed on wolframalpha.com, and note: NSFW, somehow.

1:36 PM
O_O
wat
but this is a proof than ed is evil

vi, grep, awk, and more are based on ed

so they are evil

so all of those and their derivatives are evil

including perl and vim i think

1:38 PM
You think that every software is evil.

By zyabin's logic: vi is a vicious viral villain viper vigilantly viewing visually violent victim videos

@Sp3000 TS

the alliteration is too much
i can't even

#!/bin/sh

asmfiles=$(find ./src -type f -name '*.asm')
for file in $asmfiles; do
    echo "Assembling $file..."
    nasm -f bin -o obj/$(echo $file | perl -e "printf((split/\//,<>)[-1])").o $file
done

echo Linking...
cat obj/*.o /dev/zero | dd bs=512 count=2880 > cados.fd
ಠ_ಠ

1:40 PM
(Fun fact: there's a lot of words you could add to that to make the sentence pretty NSFW)

@TùxCräftîñg ಠ_ಠ shell script is evil
use make
/sarc

make is evil

next person to say something is evil... is evil
#rekt
aw
LOL

that was good, haha

1:47 PM
VGA is evil

make is good
@Poke do you use make?

make is evil like VGA and vi

So, how about building the Coreutils from scratch?
(As an example)

Yeah, ._. because you need make to build the Coreutils.

1:53 PM
no just to create a shell script to automate this

In fact, you need make to build pretty much every *nix app, so make is not evil, as say thousands of *nix apps.

@TùxCräftîñg Okay, you create a shell script to automate this.
For this, you need to read the Makefile, used by... guess what?... make.

ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_‌ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ

And realize that you'd better get out with make.

1:56 PM
ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_‌ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ‌_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ_ಠ

@zʏᴀʙiɴ101 I have used make but it's not part of my current job

So make is not evil, as it is easier than shell scripts.

i write shell scripts more often than i use make

(Also, stop posting very long faces.)

1:57 PM
ಠ_ಠ

@MᴀʀsUʟᴛᴏʀ ikr, they only change by like 1 or 2 cells

Third item, we could make an entire blog article (or even blog series) of make being not evil.
@TùxCräftîñg now, is make evil to you?

@TùxCräftîñg What is QPixel, anyway?

a q/a site
where everyone troll

2:02 PM
You just created this question to celebrate make being evil? _ _ _

there is a mod named Trolly McTrollface anyway ._.

It blows my mind that someone would put so much effort into merging 4chan and Stack Exchange

But then again, 4chan alone blows my mind

2:07 PM
Is make evil?
(Sorry Rainbolt, but I have to prove to TuxCrafting that make is not evil.)

Yes

I thought make isn't evil...
Time to wake up the Nth Monitor and the Nineteenth Byte to a vote: is make evil?

@TùxCräftîñg I shared about this argument and this straw poll in the Nth Monitor. You have got an indirect link with Code Review >:D

2:24 PM
> The search may be slow, because indexing is not used. Click to enable indexing...
Actually, the search is sooooo fast, that this message is annoying!

welcome to windows

Question, how, in Windows Vista, to delete this annoying message?

for now it's a tie
no fcking idea
in The Nth Monitor, 14 mins ago, by skiwi
Of course make is evil, there should be superior tools by now but make kills them all
make is evil

Operation: make the next feedbot joke say "MAKE IS BEST CHOICE" to make it a tie.

> If you thought Pokémon Go spread impressively fast, wait until you see Pokémon Rust.

2:28 PM

Then we can just get someone to say "make is not evil" to make us win! >:D

Actually, that's a lie. I didn't even know about the chat until several months after I joined.

@TùxCräftîñg Nope. It's a tool, tools cannot be evil.

3:04 PM
And as make isn't evil, I can now convert your shell script to make.

3 votes for yes, 3 votes for no

make isn't evil

Q: ChessBoard Walking

Fabio MazzoThe objective is to make a chessboard in art ascii with size through two arguments (height,width) and a start (x,y) and end (x,y) point for a subject walking on the board, each square he step has the inverted color (or symbol), including the initial and final. Example: height = 8, width = 8, w...

make is evil

@TùxCräftîñg Tools can't be evil.

When you add a new file, for example file4.asm, add a new entry in OBJECTS.
For file4.asm, that would be file4.o.

where my shell file do this automagicaly

4:29 PM
shell script is evil

make is worst

@zʏᴀʙiɴ101 when you want to build a project of multiple file.
Alright, returning to making make know a new file.
...
OBJECTS = file1.o file2.o file3.o file4.o
...
Next, add a "rule" for the new file.

i am not dumb i know how make work

@TùxCräftîñg How exactly? o_O

@HelkaHomba I just saw one of your old videos about the PPCG server. I think that might have been enough to finally convince me to buy MC. :-D
Although it seemed like everything was already finished. Is there even anything that still needs work on that server?

That was the old server
(rip)

Speaking of which, @quartata, we've still got a whole mountain to tear down.
Well, 2/3 of a mountain. :P

Do we have wither skulls?

I don't.

removing a mountain with a wither
it's a bad idea

5:23 PM
Oh, so there is stuff to do?

Wither blows everything up, easy peasy

@TùxCräftîñg No, you'd use a wither cage

Haha, no, the wither would be killed to get a star for a beacon.

No I was going to use it to nuke it

5:24 PM
Just use a piston to get it to fire black skullls, ez

How do you get it through a portal?

Do I need to?

Oh, you can create withers in the overworld?

Yeah

.....I'd rather have a beacon. :P
What about making TNT and laying them in a row, properly spaced, and then igniting them simultaneously with redstone?

5:27 PM
Too much effort
A wither would be easier if we did it carefully

thats the problem
a wither destroy near everything

If you keep it from going idle it'll never shoot blue skulls
It's easier than you might think

Would anyone here be interested in a modded PPCG minecraft server? Nothing confirmed, just gaging for interest

depends of the mods

Not really. The problem with modded servers is that all the standard modpacks are too disorganized for my taste and as I've discovered making a really good modpack is excruciatingly difficult

5:30 PM
a modpack like Attack of the B-Team can be cool

I started working on one when 1.4 came out and I finally gave up trying to finish it when 1.8 came out

@quartata the Curse launcher actually makes it VERY easy

Same as Tux, depends which mods

@GamrCorps oh haha, I thought you meant "moderated'.

Didn't exist back then I don't think. Plus I was making my own mods to go with it

5:31 PM
Yeah, that could be a nusance...

The main issue was that since no mods use the same electricity system I ended up making my own and trying to cram it down all the mods' throats
Rather annoying

Yikes

OpenComputer support a lot of electric systems

It would have been amazing but it was just too unstable

and it's pretty cool to have Unix in MC

5:31 PM
I've been thinking of making a Minecraft mod myself

@TùxCräftîñg I highly doubt it supported this one. This was based on RotaryCraft :P
The physics nerd in me really liked it

Something like Ars Magica but not horribly glitchy

I should root around and see if the pack is still there. I think it got lost in the great Hard Drive explosion of 2015
Ohh I think I found an old version of it
Oh dear, this one is ancient. 1.5.

:(
Darn.
I swore I had a list of everything around here somewhere. This was an old version with no tech mods

5:35 PM
What time are you guys usually on? I could probably hop on around 06 UTC

Strawpoll not found

@BusinessCat Minecraft mods are actually really easy if you already know some Java. The only problems I found is that they like to change the minecraft api with every version so 1.6 / 1.7-1.8 / 1.9-1.10 are all very different

@GamrCorps I would be 100% happy to help you put together a modpack. I don't think the mod scene has changed a whole lot in 2 years :P

It hasn't changed much, but depending on which MC version the mods can be very different

I think we should shoot for 1.7
I don't think the good tech mods are stable in 1.8 yet
We should maybe make a room for this. I don't know what kind of modpack the MC folks here would like, need some further discussion

@GamrCorps First, pull the mouse out of the python.

Oh, yeah I didn't think of that. Thanks!

Seriously though, I personally don't know, and I presume you've already done the relevant googling?

oh nvm

@Dennis Yeah I'm currently looking at that, but I cant seem to install pyautogui correctly

Should be just pip install pyautogui (or pip3 for Python 3). I must admit I've never used Python on Windows though.

I am running the command correctly, but it is saying ImportError: No module named 'PIL' when running the setup.py. So I did ... pip install Pillow and that didn't help

6:14 PM
That's weird. The website says it has no dependencies on Windows...
