@Upgoat cherry pick, maybe
also @Upgoat if I'm not mistaken, Cheddar should be able to do well in this challenge: codegolf.stackexchange.com/questions/83238/golf-atan2

@Quill but the thing is I also want to squash the commits and git rebase -i HEAD~10 is completely borked
@Quill ooh yes... brb posting

@Upgoat GitHub lets you squash the commits when you do a PR

oh yes, good idea

@Upgoat Mars

basically I have a bunch of commits in develop/ which I want to go to release-1.0.0 but I want to squash groups of commits together
can we take input by setting variables?
I forgot to implement input in cheddar >_>
whoops

10:03 PM
@Upgoat D:

didn't you get functions working?

you can define functions?
shit ninjenja

uhh kiinda? :P

@mınxomaτ That's what apt-get is for

@MᴀʀsUʟᴛᴏʀ How is that relevant? Doesn't make the software center less crap.

10:09 PM
Maybe they didn't intend for the software center to be really good, since a lot of people use apt-get anyway

Also, that's what dpkg is for, not apt.

Also, I'm sure it's nowhere near the worst

Ohhhhhh I can solve all my git problems with rebase --onto i think

Where did I say that?

I finally annotated my little 76 byte CJam brainfuck interpreter

10:11 PM
@mınxomaτ Wait nvm, how is dpkg like the software center though

@MᴀʀsUʟᴛᴏʀ The software center is the default assigned application for *.deb packages. However, just running dpkg on the deb file if usually way faster, since the SC UI is so laggy.

That could be their new slogan: Ubuntu Software Center: Not literally the worst piece of software ever written

There's no reason for it to be as clunky and slow as it is.

…Oh, and I just saved a byte.

@Bigtoes Cheddar: Not literally the tastiest piece of software ever written

10:14 PM
Then it's more like dpkg and parts of apt, since you can browse software (i.e. install without the file/using a link) on it, which you can't do with dpkg

@Upgoat Aren't you the one always complaining about cheese puns?

yes

Oh, I forgot, you're a goat. You probably eat flash and hard drives with software on them all the time. So I guess it's not a cheese thing.

@Bigtoes ಠ_ಠ >:| we are not animals, we eat solid state drives like the civilized creatures we are

@mınxomaτ Wait, it's worse than IE?

10:17 PM
Still, if Ubuntu is trying to get serious about non-techie usage (which they're constantly saying they are), having the Software Center as the primary method of installing things is terrible. It's a bad interface, and "just do it in terminal" simply doesn't work for a lot of people.
@Upgoat Do you not count flash as solid state? :P

@Bigtoes flash?

@Bigtoes What I mean. It's so slow. Even the spinning icon while installing is lagging >.>

@Lynn Now do the reverse

Just install aptitude then? I think it's kinda like IE and Windows

oh

10:18 PM
@Bigtoes i want to get an ubuntu phone, but shit like this makes me too scared

@Maltysen O_O there is ubuntu for phones?!?

IE was the default browser, but that doesn't mean many people use it just because it's the default

does android not cut it?

Internet Explorer is a good browser, and hating it is the deadest of memes.

10:19 PM
@Upgoat There almost was even a phone for ubuntu: indiegogo.com/projects/ubuntu-edge

@MᴀʀsUʟᴛᴏʀ Which aptitude? Isn't that terminal-based?

> $12,814,216 USD raised by 0 backers

@mınxomaτ ubuntu.com/phone/devices there are ubuntu phones

oh so I guess the money just came from magical goats then

@Maltysen That's not related.
These are not produced by Canonical. They tried that (see my link).

10:21 PM
speaking of small devices... the "$9 Chip computer" is shipping their PocketChip lately

nvm, aptitude doesn't have a non-text GUI

@mınxomaτ oh canonical tried to get into manufacturing?
cool

@mınxomaτ ._. why are they using not-ubuntu to make ubuntu phone

@Maltysen The "new" ones also IMO look worse shrugs

@Quill did raspberry pi zero not cut it?

10:23 PM
@mınxomaτ that meizu Pro 5 one doesn't look too bad

@Upgoat /me shrugs
also I thought the kickstarter for the CHIP came out before RPi Zero

pls anyone here fluent in git

@Maltysen Still like the Edge more.
Maybe they can license the design to Blu or some other crazy manufacturer.

well, yes, i agree that the manufacturers are definitely not up to android level

Chat mini-challenge: Try to find an account on some site (created before 2016-06-19T22:00:00Z) named 'LegionMammal978' that has a non-blank profile picture
@Upgoat I can sometimes make it work (by bashing my head into my keyboard repeatedly); what are you trying to do?

Note: The username is case-insensitive for this challenge

@LegionMammal978 Okay, so I have two branches. A develop branch and a release branch. The develop branch is messy. For "feature A" I might have four commits, same thing with feature B, etc. Then I have a release branch. This is a branch kept tidy, I have s series of commits and I want to squash some of them together, and put them onto the release branch. E.g. dev branch might be: A-B-C-D-E-F I wanna squash it into ABC-DEF where I squashed (ABC) and (DEF)

@Upgoat Maybe merge it in two separate commits?

@MᴀʀsUʟᴛᴏʀ how?
I'm trying to do a git rebase -i HEAD~10 to squash the last 10 commitsish, but it doesn't select the last 10 commits, instead selects all other commits

@Upgoat That isn't LegionMammal978

10:34 PM
oh whoops wrong one
there

?
From where?

that was your avatar

@MᴀʀsUʟᴛᴏʀ Good job; you get a cookie:

;-; no cukee fer gaot ;-;

@LegionMammal978 That was like the second result on Google

@MᴀʀsUʟᴛᴏʀ It's the third

Second for me

@LegionMammal978: Are you going on a rampage to delete all of your profile pictures everywhere?

@El'endiaStarman Perhaps ;)
@MᴀʀsUʟᴛᴏʀ The picture is blank, only the background has an image; look in the top-left corner

@LegionMammal978 Can't access youtube at school

Ah okay

@MᴀʀsUʟᴛᴏʀ That's blank also

@MᴀʀsUʟᴛᴏʀ That doesn't seem to be editable
@MᴀʀsUʟᴛᴏʀ Just removed it an hour ago, look to the left of the "No bio."

@LegionMammal978 Wait, it's transparent?

@MᴀʀsUʟᴛᴏʀ Duh

@Upgoat sandbox viewer feature request: make a close button for the popup

Some sites make it opaque, some don't

10:54 PM
@LegionMammal978 Well, it's not easy telling between a picture full of nothing and bad layout

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ there is see top left corner

Just right-click on the space

Any thoughts on this? Someone didn't like it, but I don't know why.

sorry, you said left, I heard right

11:00 PM
@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ are you faimliar with mathjs

does it have arbitrary prescision math
e.g. 3/2 is fraction until I specify what precision i want it

idts
not like that, anyhow

oh ok, im trying to find a libary to do that. i dont wanna have to implement in cheddar myself >_>

@Upgoat I could implement rational arithmetic for you

11:06 PM
> i dont wanna have to implement in cheddar myself >_>

@LegionMammal978 nah, it's fine. If I can't find a library I'll just pipe to BC

@Upgoat That is an incredibly Bad Idea™
Rational arithmetic is not very difficult to implement

Q: A proposal to remove "Code Golf" from the name of the site

EMBLEMI propose that "code golf" be removed from the name of the site and the site be renamed "Programming Puzzles". I have two reasons behind this: Although code golf is popular on the site, there are other fun and interesting kinds of challenges offered. In fact, I think the site being named "Code...

@Upgoat Do you want a Rational type, or have it work on Numbers?

@quartata why?

11:16 PM
@Upgoat Uhh... think about it for a second

I'll be happy to implement it for you (currently have nothing more useful to do with my life)

Well for one bc won't work on Windows
Secondly it'll be slow as shit
Thirdly there'll be all sorts of version issues and conflicts

@quartata Will the piping be slow? Bc seems pretty damn fast in general

Fourthly there is a user who is unnaturally eager to implement it for you

@Upgoat bc has to parse it
You're essentially parsing it twice. That's dumb.

11:18 PM
@LegionMammal978 if you'd like it I'll warn you that I'm picky about speed, it'll have to be damn fast :/

@Upgoat K, will be able to

@quartata yeah tru

@Upgoat (and the system has to start a new process)
6 mins ago, by LegionMammal978
@Upgoat Do you want a Rational type, or have it work on Numbers?

@LegionMammal978 either or which ever is fastest

@Upgoat Gimme a day to complete this, I've already forked it
@Upgoat To clarify: Number's constructor is only called without base 10 and bitshift 0 when lexing, correct?

11:31 PM
@LegionMammal978 yes

Will probably have to rewrite the number lexer also, then

Though Rational can just be a seperate class
It would be constructed as a typed literal:
var myRationalNumber: Rational = 10

@Upgoat Congrats, you are the first person to comment on V ever.
And so far, the only.

@DrGreenEggsandIronMan idk whether to :D for "first" or ;-; for "the gaot is so lonely"

What's a gaot?

11:34 PM
@DrGreenEggsandIronMan something resulting in

Sup folks!

@Upgoat Where are default classes defined?

I just thought of a great idea for a challenge.

@LegionMammal978 well it'd be a part of the standard lib, so in src/stdlib but there is no STDLIB in the master branch. You'd have to fork from @develop

11:37 PM
@Upgoat So wait... master has no IO?

@Zizouz212 shoot

no, only develop/

What happened?
Am I not allowed to think of making a challenge now?

???

it would be in master but I can't figure out how to git

11:38 PM
Where'd you get that idea?

@mınxomaτ Now I'm very confused.

@Upgoat Does this help at all:

@Zizouz212 shoot
== go

Sorry, I have never heard that before. You do realize I'm Canadian right?

How would I know.

11:40 PM
I did not know that.

Anyways, are ascii art challenges popular?

can someone tell "Erik the Golfer" to stop being an ass and fix his crap

Are you drinking straight maple-syrup whilst watching hockey right now?

@Upgoat stdlib on develop only seems to have String
So how does IO work?

@Zizouz212 Yes, I like ascii art challenges.

11:41 PM
@DrGreenEggsandIronMan That was a week ago. The penguins won that!

What's your challenge idea?

Go Pittsburgh! Go away San Jose!
@DrGreenEggsandIronMan I'll post it to the sandbox when I'm done writing it. I just wanted to make sure ascii challenges were fun :)

@Zizouz212 I didn't know that. I don't really pay much attention to hockey.

\o/

@LegionMammal978 it doesnt rn >_>
@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ a bit rude to erik >_>

11:43 PM
@Upgoat Okay, was confused by the website's example programs

@Upgoat it's not the first time

@Zizouz212 Wait, you watch the NHL? I thought there was a Canadian league.
^^

NHL is Canadian. But then, I'm royally upset with Canada.
No Canadian team made the playoffs.
@DrGreenEggsandIronMan There's provincial leagues, but the NHL is Canada and the US.

There's the Canucks, Oilers, Flames, Jets, Canadiens, Leafs, and the Senators.

11:45 PM
You can tell I don't pay much attention.

Or Vancouver, Edmonton, Calgary, Winnipeg, Montreal, Toronto, and Ottawa
lol, clearly I do :)

I like the NHL when the Avs are doing well. That's about it.

Avs?

Ah, Colorado :)

11:46 PM
Not to brag or anything, but Colorado is pretty much the best state. :D

lol, isn't Colorado a state?

What do you mean? Yes, it is a state.

Oh lol, I read that Colorado was the best in the state, not that it's the best state.

@Upgoat lib.es6 defines properties and static.es6 defines static members, correct?

What states do I know... New York? California? Colorado... That's about it.

11:48 PM
FWIW I couldn't name very many Canadian provinces.
Alberta, BC, uh...
Some other ones

@LegionMammal978 there's no real definiton, I did it like that because the string comstructor was decentralized from stdlib. You can really do it however you want thpugh

any BF experts in here?

@Zizouz212 New York, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Ohio, Georgia, Washington, Florida, Alabama, Louisiana, California, Colorado, Illinois, Texas, Alaska... the list goes on. (and those were off the top of my head!)
^ Blame the U.S. public education system for that last message

Haha that's funny :)

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ sorta? I know a little.

11:51 PM
@DrGreenEggsandIronMan can I haz golf

Haha, nope. I don't know that much.
I've only ever done one bf answer, and it was only 21 bytes long.

this was my first answer :P

@Zizouz212 Hey, you got the ones that matter. The 2 where everyone lives, and the best one. :)

Yaay!

@DrGreenEggsandIronMan what about new jersey? we have the highest population density :P

why is the word "net" superimposed on it?

It's not aligned correctly. (Maybe cause I'm on mobile? )

So that people know it's a net?
@DrGreenEggsandIronMan Probably.

I'll check it on desktop and let you know if that fixes it
