In other news a bug in my game that I've been pursuing for 2+ weeks was caused by me accidentally using translate( instead of move(

@quartata What game?
My 2 favourite quotes are

it only moves the screen up, at least, on my emulator

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ what emulator do you use?

5:17 PM
@EᴀsᴛᴇʀʟʏIʀᴋ Except cls isn't a thing in bash

clear was though

What's happening?

It won't scroll back up.

@Bálint No, but my open windows usually occupy only half on the screen.

@Dennis Close your tabs! So many tabs it drives me crazy

@Dennis hey, it's a cute cat
Does anybody here own ppcg.se?

@Upgoat Be proud. Babel had nothing to say about my code, it was pretty much what they said. :D

@EᴀsᴛᴇʀʟʏIʀᴋ :D :D :D \o/ \o/ \o/ +100000000 for using Babel

:P and woah
@Upgoat it was a translator thingy for the tf2 wiki pages.

6:18 PM
@HelkaHomba are you using the zigzag, incrementing numbers challenge idea, or can I take it? :P

@VTCAKAVSMoACE That's VITC with I, not VTC without I. :P But still, good job.

@zʏᴀʙiɴ101 It's pronounced "vitsee" -> "vitsy"

Aaaaah. Then good job. :D

Dr. Green Eggs and Iron man? Downgoat became upgoat? That's a nice change of things since the last time I've been here...

@R.Kap Oh, and Martin got married.
And Geobits became Meanbits, then Nicebits.
Then everybody became -bits.
Then Geobits became Geobits again.

6:32 PM
@wizzwizz4 Oh, nice! Well, congratulations @MartinEnder!

@zʏᴀʙiɴ101 went smallcaps,

@R.Kap thanks :)

@wizzwizz4 All that makes it seem as if I've been gone for years...

We broke the signal:noise counter, and... I can't remember what else...
Oh yes, I became a moderator! :-)
@R.Kap You have been away for years. Time dilation...
I suppose for you it's only been a few months.

@wizzwizz4 Nice! Good job!

6:35 PM
Do you have massive internet lag or something?
Or maybe I do...
Considering the characters appearing in this text box are appearing seconds after I type them.
Can we do ===double strikethrough===? No, we can't.

@R.Kap much change

@EᴀsᴛᴇʀʟʏIʀᴋ such differenciness

@R.Kap Do you know what the reply button is?

It lets you do lots of cool things.

@EᴀsᴛᴇʀʟʏIʀᴋ Yeah, I just forget to use it.
I always assume that I will be able to get my message on the board in time so that it will point to the right message, but obviously that's not always the case...
much change...such differences...waow..

6:40 PM
@R.Kap that's fine

In unrelated news, I was about 15 days away from earning my Fanatic badge, but because of school work, I was away for a day and completely lost my chance at getting it. I'm now back on day 9 out of 100...

It was going to be my first gold badge...
:'(
Okay, who did this?
Hello @Maltysen

hello

I just recently self-taught Calculus. I now know what derivatives and integrals are.

6:49 PM
Dang. I taught one of the other team members how to make web controls with Polymer and he went off and learned like five other JS libraries and now knows more than me

@R.Kap What is the derivative of (x+1)^2+sqrt(x)?

@Loovjo (2x+2)+(1/2*sqrt(x))

@R.Kap Correct

Yay! :)
I also know about the Reimann sum, it's relationship with the definite integral, and the relationship of the definite integral with the antiderivative based on the Fundamental Theorem of Calculus.

Anyone here using Yo?

6:56 PM
I'm supposed to learn this all in 12th grade, but I took the liberty of learning in 9th, and honestly, it's not very hard.

@R.Kap what's the integral of sin(x^2) dx? :P

@R.Kap Same (except I don't know when I'm supposed to learn it).

@zʏᴀʙiɴ101 what is this?

@Maltysen Yo, the single touch zero character communication tool.
You add/invite your friends to Yo, and they can easily open the app and tap your name to send a Yo.
Which seems like a fancy form of ping, working everywhere where your device is.
And no chat is needed.

7:00 PM
so
pagers

It's available for iOS and Android.
My username on Yo is ZYABIN101.

@zʏᴀʙiɴ101 Implementing a yo-type of program could be a cool golf challenge
maybe

Okay.

I've heard of Yo.

@zʏᴀʙiɴ101 @LeakyNun @El'endiaStarman @flawr @Fatalize @Geobits spoilers for last week's puzzle coming with the next New Sandbox Post.

7:04 PM
I'm on travel now, in Ozinki, Russia.
Can't page up an idea right now.
Will start in, like, 2 days.
@R.Kap You are on Yo?

@MartinEnder the one with the pixelated picture?

that one

@zʏᴀʙiɴ101 No...it seems like the most pointless thing ever...

@R.Kap btw that integral is impossible symbolically, you can stop trying :P

@Maltysen I did not even notice that message...

7:12 PM

A: Sandbox for Proposed Challenges

Martin Ender7-segment differences code-golfnumbercounting I think most people around here know what a 7-segment display for digits is: _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ | | | _| _| |_| |_ |_ | |_| |_| |_| | |_ _| | _| |_| | |_| _| We can define the 7-segme...

@Maltysen Could you elaborate on how that integral is impossible symbolically?

@R.Kap well when I say symbolically, I mean that you can't express it in terms of elementary functions
you know because of FTC that the integral must exist
and you can even approx it numerically if it was definite
there just isn't any way to express it in terms of functions we have already defined

From what I know, the antiderivative of sin(x) = -cos(x) + c, and therefore, the integral of sin(x^2) = -cos(x^2) + C
Where C can be pretty much any contant

@R.Kap that's not how antiderivtives work at all
try taking the derivative of -cos(x^2)
if you're right, it'll be sin(x^2)
but because of chain rule you get 2x*sin(x^2)

Yeah, that's true. The derivative of an antiderivative should obviously be the original function.

7:17 PM
here to clear this up a little, lemme give you one that is possible

And, like you said, the derivative of -cos(x^2) = 2x*sin(x^2)

@R.Kap what's the integral of x*cos(x^2) dx, here your earlier answer will kinda work

@NewSandboxedPosts ahhhhhhh

Well, I would need to use integration of parts to find the antiderivative of that.

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ did you see my golf of your "reverse the filename" answer?

7:21 PM
no
I ignore all pings at 3 in the morning

@Upgoat when do you wake up, for records?
What's your timezone?

@zʏᴀʙiɴ101 idk around 7:00 PST

Okay.

@Maltysen So what I am getting here is the integral of xcos(x^2) = xsin(x^2)+cos(x^2)+Cx+2C. Is that correct?

@MartinEnder Can you take quick look at this whenever you have time? Since you use Mathematica a lot, I was wondering if maybe you could shed some light

7:27 PM
I just used the integration of parts.

Hey, thanks for upvoting, whoever it was :-)

c'est moi :)

Hehe. Merci!

@Maltysen You there?

7:31 PM
On parle français ici?

I don't. But it's similar to Spanish and Italian, so I understand a little

J'ai decouvert une question mathematique qui est très interessante, je pense:
4
Q: Pell equation in ${\mathbb Q}(x)$

Ewan DelanoyIs it known whether the equation $A^2-(x^2+3)B^2=1$ has a solution $A,B\in{\mathbb Q}(x)$ with $B\neq 0$ ? My thoughts : I think that there is no solution, as the fundamental solution of $A^2-(x^2+3)B^2=1$ for $x\in {\mathbb Z}$ seems to vary uncontrollably.

@LeakyNun Are you guys planning on an efficient encoding for Pyth?

Apparently, I still need plenty of practice on finding antiderivatives...

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ :| well I got down to 63 bytes :D
16 hours ago, by Upgoat
@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ because we don't need to have the extension, this can be 68: require("fs").rename(F=__filename,F.split(/.*\/|/).reverse().join``)

7:34 PM
63 or 68 ?

68 :| I cann't type

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ oh, that is mac version
change \/ to `\\` for windows working

7:37 PM
@Upgoat Hehe. I always have the same trouble with inverted slash

it renames it to sj.taog

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ we don't need to have the extensioon

yup

@Upgoat go for it

7:39 PM
:D

@Upgoat So, Cheddar is still unfinished, right?

@zʏᴀʙiɴ101 yea, I need code to recursively copy a class instance. Once I have that I'm done
but there's still a lot to do to prepare for a release

like get a proper windows installation

yeah
idk batch though

7:40 PM
@Upgoat So, lock the development and get a release-0.1a? :P

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ \o/ can you make installation script for cheddar then?

Ah wait, you use the centralized workflow. :P

@Upgoat Batch is horribly ill equipped for this task, but I'm trying my best

All it needs to do is ensure git, and node, are installed, if not install them. Then clone cheddar, do a npm install then a ./node_modules/.bin/grunt build, and then write a script to install

Does anyone know how to compress text consisting of nine characters? :P
@Upgoat let's go to cheddar room

7:42 PM
@MartinEnder My 50 shades of grey theory was better

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ sure

@LuisMendo I know some of those words.

7:59 PM
Huh cool gedit has J syntax coloring. It isn't much though

@LuisMendo or @LuisMendon't: That is the question!

@avocadjuic do you still want Rennet on the cheddar-lang org? Or can I take it off?

8:13 PM
^ at least he didn't get shot

true

@R.Kap no
that is wrong
srry I went away for a little while

@Maltysen Yeah, I just found that out. The correct answer is sine(x^2)/2 + C

so you know that you have to use u-sub?
so that when you take the derivative of the inside, it works out to be the outside?
well that doesn't work for sin(x^2) cuz there is no x on the outside

@Maltysen What are you trying to do?

8:19 PM
@flawr explain to him why sin(x^2) cannot be symbolically integrated

Depends on the integration domain=)

>_<

@Lynn It is

@R.Kap ooh, fun one for parts: integrate e^x*cos(x) dx

@Maltysen Is the correct answer sin(e^x)?

8:32 PM
@R.Kap nope
that becomes e^x*cos(e^x)
hint: you have to use parts
@AlexA. i haz math question

What is your question

@Maltysen Okay, now I think it's correct. integration of e^x*cos(x) dx = e^(x sin(x)) - e^(sin(x)-C)+C

@AlexA. what is 2 * (9 + 10)

@AlexA. when you have an indefinite integral from -∞ to ∞, can you set your t to ∞ and go from -t to t and take limit as t→∞, or do you have to do two limits one to ∞ and one to -∞?

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ a lot

8:37 PM
@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ anwer to lif

@Adnan kthxavocad

@Maltysen t at both ends is fine

@AlexA. thx

np bb

@R.Kap how do you have 2 C's?

8:38 PM
the antiderivative of cos(x) = -sin(x) + C

@R.Kap i think you're missing the point that you can't just substitute stuff like that when you're taking integrals

And since the antiderivative of e^x is e^x, then, using parts, it becomes e^x*(-sin(x)+C) - e^(-sin(x)+C)

parts is uv-Svdu
that first part is e^x*sin(x)

You shouldn't have two +Cs

@flawr :-)

8:42 PM
@R.Kap and the second part is minus integral of e^x*sin(x) != - e^(-sin(x)+C)

I hate it when a typo gives the opposite meaning
nobody cares about +C anyway
set C=0 and who gives a fuck

or c=3
( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

@AlexA. But what if C = 5, or 7, or 200?

@R.Kap yeah, you never need two C's because two functions can only differ by a constant if their derivatives are equal
so you max need one +C

@R.Kap Then set D = C - C

8:45 PM
If you plan on using the antiderivative for evaluating the integral you do not have to worry about the constant.

@Maltysen I see then. So the correct answer is e^x*sin(x) - e^sin(x)

(I should probably note that I got docked points in the early calc classes for inadvertently dropping a +C in antiderivatives here and there >_>)

they only really matter for diffrential equstions
@R.Kap no

@HelkaHomba didn't your youtube have like 10 suscribers yesterday?
now at 113

@R.Kap try writing out the parts formula and what your u, v, du, and dv are
and then plugging them in
that usually helps stop your brain from getting confused

8:49 PM
@Maltysen e^x*sin(x) - e^sin(x)?

@R.Kap no
are you sure you got the parts formula correct?
its ∫u * dv = u * v - ∫ v * du
@VTCAKAVSMoACE the AP grading is over, my teacher came back to school yesterday, augghh so nervous, why do we have to wait a month

@HelkaHomba I can't believe you killed Reggie

I just subscribed yesterday.

@AlexA. You don't think carrots are still a thing?

I also learned that I've been pronouncing "Homba" wrong my entire life.

9:11 PM
@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ When was the last time 40 people said "carrot" in a row? Also it really shouldn't be a thing anymore.

How do you pronounce it?
@AlexA. CARET

@DrGreenEggsandIronMan How do you say it?

I always thought it was "Home-buh".

In my head I pronounce it as "hahm-buh"

Then I heard helka himself say "Hom-buh"
(removed)

9:12 PM
@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ ?

@AlexA. Just because there aren't 40 people being immature, doesn't mean it isn't a thing. Nor does whether or not it should be a thing impact if it is.

(added)

I changed the cultural height. That doesn't mean it isn't a thing, it just means that it isn't at its peak popularity.

@Maltysen How do you think you did? :P

Well, shit. There go all the memes :P

TBF, a lot of them are pretty old. We need some shiny new high-tech memes.

It's almost impossible to make a meme whilst trying to make a meme
