Since my question spent around 2 hours without any answers, let me clarify one thing: Built-in functions are allowed. Your answer might be boring if you use them, you might get downvoted, etc, but those answers are allowed regardless of this.

Is there a way to see who I have ignored in chat?

@PhiNotPi Here's a challenge: Shortest code to remove the watermark. Or better yet, any code, short or not.

@MartinEnder Yeah, I found it.
I'm not ignoring anyone, but I can't see @jimmy23013's posts?

@mbomb007 Err, where?

6:06 PM
@El'endiaStarman one example
His posts are in the comments on the question, but not in chat

Jimmy didn't post there.
If you let us continue this discussion in chat, only the comments of that conversation are posted.

Hmm okay.
But has Jimmy ever posted in TNB? If so, I can't see any of it.

It's even in the name: Discussion between mbomb007 and Wheat Wizard

Found it

He has, but his last message was 70 days ago.
(And that wasn't in TNB.)

6:10 PM
I was trying to arrive at his chat profile. Got it. Thanks.

@El'endiaStarman That's more because loot from previous games affects future games
I don't think this would be like that

Poll: How many tabs do you have open in your current browser window?
I have 75.
Can't see the favicons.

Five.
I'm currently working on TIO though, so not really browsing.

Anybody want to play antichess? (lose to win) https://en.lichess.org/N3bVWptF

Edit: Updated link.

@noɥʇʎPʎzɐɹC 24 currently. Icons disappear when I get to 35, it seems.

6:12 PM
29

@noɥʇʎPʎzɐɹC 2

@noɥʇʎPʎzɐɹC 3

@noɥʇʎPʎzɐɹC before the recent purge (like 2min ago), 116

@noɥʇʎPʎzɐɹC 12,540 on 14VMs (Kidding, it's 7)

I don't believe you

6:15 PM
@noɥʇʎPʎzɐɹC I have 16, but Firefox starts overflowing the tab bar after 10, so the favicons never disappear
(Cue "Ew, you're using Firefox?" jokes)

It's OK. I'm using opera

@ETHproductions Cue "Ew, look at how poor Chrome's extension API is" jokes.

@DrMcMoylex ....why?
that's not even a default browser on any major platform
edge/IE comes with windows, FF also sometimes, and safari with mac
and chrome is literally FF + google integration

@EᴀsᴛᴇʀʟʏIʀᴋ Except OxygenOS. It seems to be a default browser there.

@TheBitByte Speaking of which, I made a dead simple chrome extension.

6:19 PM
@EᴀsᴛᴇʀʟʏIʀᴋ I thought FF and Chrome are built on different engines

idk, but feature wise they're indentical afaik

@noɥʇʎPʎzɐɹC Hello, James Lu!

@EᴀsᴛᴇʀʟʏIʀᴋ I don't see why that makes any difference. TBH most of the default browsers hardcore suck

Golfed a few extraneous PPCG tabs, now I'm down to 8 total

6:22 PM
@TheBitByte well... uh... hi...

@EᴀsᴛᴇʀʟʏIʀᴋ Because I got tired of chrome being buggy, so I wanted to try something out of the ordinary. it's really not that bad, but a plugin I like doesn't work, so I'll probably go back to chrome pretty soon

I don't usually like to be referred to w/ my real name
Partly because I'm not the same person/personality
Manual jpeg unartifcating for that example picture + adobe photoshop automatic unartificating
Chat activity suddenly stopped again
Going tab golfing 75 -> ?
75 -> 56
Still can't see tab icons

> Most likely it means that (like most programs written by Americans) it's never been tested with Unicode characters and you've exposed a bug in their code.
ha

@TuxCopter wow
That's why you should have TNB users test your code!

6:33 PM
@noɥʇʎPʎzɐɹC I thought you made the extension, no? Also, there are many James Lus, don't worry. :P

Looks like my suspicion was correct

@noɥʇʎPʎzɐɹC Um.. what?

> +42
Looks like SE found the answer

@TheBitByte Could you stop bringing up his name? He already said he'd rather not have it mentioned in here, which is completely understandable

6:38 PM
@DrMcMoylex I literally did it only twice, and I won't do it again. Relax.

@TheBitByte Yes, I made it.

@TheBitByte You did it a second time after being asked not to.

@El'endiaStarman In that case, I hadn't read the part where he said not to, and I apologize. Can we move on now?

@ROs Calm down, I'm not that uber privacy

hi guys
why does your screen look like that

6:41 PM
Look like what?

@noɥʇʎPʎzɐɹC Oh, that's good to know. In that case, what's your home address, SSN, mothers maiden name and credit card number?
:P

"not that uber privacy" does not imply "uber non-privacy" :P

@Oliver You also don't really need to say "hi guys" or some variation thereof several times in as many hours.

Whatever's not disallowed is allowed. :D

Although I disagree with it technically.

I remember I stopped saying "hi" or "bye" a while ago when I entered or left because I chose to see chat as a continuous conversation and that it's kinda like saying "Can I ask a question?" when you should just ask the question.

6:45 PM
@ETHproductions I can't post a certain permalink to your byte counter in a comment for some reason... ethproductions.github.io/bytes/…*2%3Bprint%20x+%28n-i%29*%27%20%27+%27//%‌27+%27%20%27*i+x%5B%3A%3A-1%5D
An asterisk * messes it up.

huh... I thought I fixed that bug a month ago

@El'endiaStarman Ok, ok

@mbomb007 In the meantime, you can replace the asterisk(s) with %2A.

@ETHproductions Where's Code-page 915? or Code-page 853? Better yet, have a text box where I can enter a code-page number.

On Wikipedia
I can add them to the byte counter if you want

6:49 PM
@ETHproductions Why not have a textbox to enter custom codepages?
Assuming that is possible at all, of course.

On the one hand, practically all byte counts are 1-byte-per-char. On the other, each has a different character set.

@ETHproductions Collect all those that aren't one byte per char, I guess?
Assuming the number of them isn't too large.

The problem with that would be it's impossible to check if text is valid in any random charset without it being hardcoded.

Is there a way to block comment notifications?

@Mego Why? To avoid discussion?

6:55 PM
@Mego I don't think so. You could invite them to a chat room, or flag for a mod though

While I'm working on the byte counter, any other encoding requests?

Does it handle unprintable characters well?

As well as your browser can, I believe

Anonymous
@DrMcMoylex Gah. They're legitimate comments, so mod intervention isn't the right choice. I'm just tired of holding someone's hand to try to get them to understand something simple.

Oh, then I'm misunderstanding. What are the comments?

Anonymous
7:00 PM
It doesn't really matter

@DrMcMoylex Actually, now that you point that out, it doesn't seem to support permalinks for text including any char in the range U+0080-U+00FF.

Oh. That sounds awful for V

I know, I'll try to fix that...

srsly
flagging a rick roll

I guess the built-in JS escape function is not the tool for the job
@Zacharee1 Yeah, no point in that, unless they were joking (and flags aren't the way to joke)

7:03 PM
well it did give me the excuse to come back to this room

@Zacharee1 Welcome back! You can log out any time you like, but you can never leave.

>_>

wait, what?
That sounds unintentionally creepy

@ETHproductions Pretty sure it's a play off of Hotel California by the Eagles.

7:06 PM
@ETHproductions "un"intentionally

Anonymous
Good grief, someone didn't get a Hotel California reference?

That and the addicting-ness of this room

I guess I'm too young/uncultured to get the reference

Anonymous
Why do I feel the urge to sit on my front porch and yell at kids to get off my lawn?

You can never be too young for the Eagles. :)

7:07 PM
@Mego Umm, your Armistice answer doesn't seem to get the // portion to line up correctly.

Anonymous
Also the word is "uncultured"

Anonymous
@TimmyD Aw crap, I misread the question

@Mego Thanks, fixed (saved 2 bytes!)

@Mego Because kids these days deserve it :P

Then again, I grew up listening to a lot of old music. Van Morrison, the Eagles, the Beatles, Johnny cash, John Mellencamp, Billy Joel

7:08 PM
@ETHproductions Apparently this is how I did it for Minkolang:
function encodeURL(S) {
	var U = encodeURIComponent(S);
	return U.replace('(','%28').replace(')','%29').replace('.','%2E');
}

Anonymous
I don't see a way to fix it without adding 30 bytes

Hear that, Geobits? Billy Joel is "old" music.

Anonymous
@Geobits Hear, hear!

It's not old music unless the musicians of that age are dying of natural causes already.

Anonymous

7:10 PM
By that logic, Rolling Stones will never be old music.

@El'endiaStarman Ah, cool. I thought escape was more trustworthy, but it seems to fail on raw bytes above 7F

Anonymous
@TimmyD The Rolling Stones is already old music. All the band members are dead - concerts are just a reenactment of Weekend at Bernie's

@Mego Hey, I'm not the one that said they weren't old lol
I grew up listening to oldies stations though, so...

@TheBitByte And if it doesn't understand or have a corresponding code page, it will search Google and use the first 256 unique characters it finds as the code page.

Next headliner -- the mummified remains of Keith Richards.

7:12 PM
@mbomb007 That seems a little tough to implement :P

@TimmyD I think he was pickled rather than mummified.

I think the Wikipedia page is more reliable though, since it has a table with the whole code page

@Geobits Same with Larry the Cucumber

Ugh. Veggie tales :/

@Mego Wouldn't that be Weekend at Bernie's 2? That's the one where they have to keep the music playing.

7:14 PM
@Geobits Ugh?
Why?

What? How can you dislike veggie tales?

^

Because it's just trash?

I guess if you're not Christian

Silly pickle

7:15 PM
@DrMcMoylex lol

@mbomb007 It is pretty heavily Christian oriented, but I didn't like it in the first few minutes before that became obvious either.

Well, it's also a kids show

The one and only quote from veggie tales that has ever stuck with me is "if it doesn't have a tail, it's not a monkey, it's an ape".

@Geobits It's aimed at kids mostly, but there are plenty of adult-oriented references. Like what @DrMcMoylex just referenced.
(a reference to Monty Python)

7:17 PM
0_0 I thought I was making a veggie-tales reference

Oh, I know it's a kid's show. I have a kid, and enjoyed watching lots of shows with him growing up. That just wasn't one of them ;)

@DrMcMoylex You were. Veggie Tales was making a Monty Python reference. morelandmadness.blogspot.com/2014/07/…
French people hurling insults from castle walls? check

I really need to watch Monty python

^ :O
totes

7:20 PM
@DrMcMoylex If you're not really into British humor, start with Monty Python and the Holy Grail - it's the most easily accessible of their work.

that or Life of Brian

Anonymous
@TimmyD fair enough

@Oliver wtf did I just watch

Is there a Haskell equivalent for Erlang's list comprehensions/unpacking? [Head|Tail] (I know Haskell has head and tail but that's ugly and can't be used in pattern matching)

@MartinEnder Really? I'd place Meaning of Life ahead of Life of Brian in terms of accessibility to people unfamiliar with British humor.

7:23 PM
@quartata (x:xs)?

Hrm. I think that works in my situation but it isn't quite as flexible.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Life of Brian was the first one I saw (long before being familiar with British humour) and really liked it right away

At least so I thought... lemme see

I don't know about Erlang's list unpacking syntax for pattern matching, but I think (x:xs) is what you want

7:26 PM
I tried already :/

Next question: since Haskell doesn't have atoms, how can I construct something like an enum?

@TimmyD Agreed. It's also the most popular.

@Dennis said he knew how to golf off 2 bytes

@quartata data?
data MyEnum = A
            | B
            | C;

Can I just use that like a type?

7:28 PM
Yep

data Bool = False | True deriving Enum if you want Enum type goodness

Hrm, I think I misinterpreted how that worked then.
I'll try it.

@Oliver I meant by using my solution. >_>
The bounty is xsot's anyway.

i know
oh
lol

@Oliver Could you replace s<len(x) by x>x[:s]?

7:32 PM
hm
lemee try
Yea, thanks!
@Dennis How does yours work? I can't seem to figure out
Idk, im bad at reading code
Was this really the first question?

Ooh, a vim cop! I'm gonna have to try and Crack that

@Oliver Possibly but not really. This site was spawned as a separate location for code-golf questions from StackOverflow, so likely the "first" CG question is still over there, buried somewhere.

ok
When was this made?
This site I mean

Like 5 years ago?

ok
how are new SE sites even made

thanks

Here's the PPCG profile on there: area51.stackexchange.com/proposals/4570/…

You know that's not allowed right?

Whatever

7:42 PM
SE users under 13 are not allowed to reveal their identities

As much as I hate to say this, there's a really good chance your account will be deleted for legal reasons

Anonymous
It's not just that - people aren't allowed to register on SE unless they're at least 13 years old. Lying on the registration page will result in your account being deleted (or possibly suspended until your 13th birthday).

So I guess my dream FPS would be:

Q: Specific Cyclic tag system simulation

margaloThis is a bit similar to this question. On page 679 of Stephen Wolfram's A New Kind of Science, a specific tag system is described. Here is its rule for a slightly modified tag-system-esque challenge: Start with a 1, in stage A. If the first number is a 1, and you're in stage A, add a 1 at th...

@NewMainPosts That's a weird dream FPS, @quartata

7:46 PM
^^ That's a weird dream FPS

- Big games but not too big (75 players ish)
- Advanced terrain generation with less open flat areas and a lot of elevation/upper ground
- Skilled based movement like bhopping
- Not too serious

lol

@Mego :/

How do we stop players from taking it seriously

Anonymous
@quartata So like TF2 but with more players?

Anonymous
7:47 PM
@feersum Ban the serious people

Once you reach rank XYZ, your account is automatically suspended

What if they are pretending to have fun but super serious in their heart?

@Mego No not really. TF2 doesn't have much skill based movement outside of rocket jumping

Question: When File objects are GC'd in Ruby, are they closed?

@feersum It's something the devs cultivate. Events, silly backstory, etc.
That leads to a less serious community I think

Anonymous
7:49 PM
@feersum Heart rate monitors and sweat detectors.

Highly skilled movement but not too serious is an oxymoron

You can also encourage silliness (in a manner of speaking) through funny game mechanics.

Anonymous
Implement features that "serious" players hate, like rubber banding scores and bad weapon balance

bad weapon balance is horrible
Even non-serious players will stop playing

7:51 PM
@TimmyD Perhaps but I think it can be done. The reason why it's so elite and serious in other games is that they're glitches and hard to do right. I think something part of the game that is easy to learn but hard to master would be good

@TuxCopter That logo doesn't look right

?
(It took me 5 tries to type this question mark o_O)

I didn't say I had the solutions. This is just a pipe dream

@TuxCopter It looks different then the actuall G logo
@TuxCopter I think the yellow part is too big

@quartata Grappling hooks. Practically anybody playing games understands "point here, shoot hook, ride it across" but people that really master hooks can do some amazing things.

7:53 PM
@El'endiaStarman Yeah I agree. TF2 is a hard game but still rather silly
@TimmyD I like hooks but I would prefer something that is more about how you move then what you use

Hmm. I should've been more general and said "aesthetics". TF2 does everything in a goofy way.

if that makes sense

Sure, but what if that is how you move.
Kinda like Tribes -- "skiing" was how you moved. It was just a part of the game.

I mean more that it's a natural consequence of movement rather than a tool. Something more innate.
What's skiing? I've played Tribes like once

7:57 PM
Oh that.

@Mego Suspended until doesn't solve the legal problem. Websites cannot collect personal information from children under the age of 13, including their email addresses. Whether they're able to use the accounts makes no difference.
