Q: How do I say "Thank you, Captain Obvious?"

Charlotte SLHow do I say "Thank you, Mr. Obvious?" Or is it "Captain Obvious"? Anyway, this is a slang response when someone says something that is known to the other person - and this should be obvious to the other person, too.

@EᴀsᴛᴇʀʟʏIʀᴋ Thanks captain obvious

my DNS can resolve any address besides mail.google.com
any ideas?

I had the same problem with imgur a while back, changing the server to 8.8.8.8 fixed it.

@NathanMerrill Don't use mail.google

thank you, you are very helpful

@TheveryevilROFLcopter that's a perfectly fair and valid rule.

@MartinEnder s/minutes/tens of minutes/

8:36 PM
@MartinEnder assuming stars represent votes for the rule, can 10 stars enact that rule?

@ConorO'Brien to be honest I think we can actually only suspend for full hours, so we might as well go with that

well, I actually disagree. ಠ_ಠ should be fine

@PhiNotPi mind using a photo from the red vs blue pixel koth for your blog post?
@MartinEnder can't you suspend for 30min also?

@MartinEnder haha yeah.

@EᴀsᴛᴇʀʟʏIʀᴋ add whatever you want

8:36 PM
@EᴀsᴛᴇʀʟʏIʀᴋ only the auto-suspension from flagged messages does that

@PhiNotPi cool, thanks
@MartinEnder oh, TIL

(although I haven't tried entering fractional hours)

is that a legal thing to test on a willing user?
(just wondering)

I could, but it's going to leave a record on your account, so I'd rather not

I decided I should actually add control flow to dotsplit

CMC: make a turing-complete language without control flow

not sure if that's possible
sounds like a chat mega challenge though

isn't that ///, lambda calculus etc?...

8:52 PM
not sure if /// is TC?

@Downgoat nvm that "how make image message", added an image to the KOTH blog post and tried to add one to my intro post

the escape feature is actually really important somehow

intro post image doesn't show up as thumbnail though, idk why

This interpreter for the language Bitwise Cyclic Tag was generated using this Haskell program. The BCT program and data can be changed by modifying the strings after (P| and (D| near the beginning. (The empty program and the program containing just 1 are not supported.) As the BCT page suggests is enough for Turing-completeness, it (slowly!) prints out the sequence of deleted data bits as 0 = /, 1 = \.

8:54 PM
o/ hey folks

question, do you guys allow more than one answer from single user on this site ?

hello
@Serg yes
it's allowed, just you can't have a golfed and ungolfed answer.

What I have is two languages. One's bash, just now found shorter python than already existing one

8:57 PM
Protip: It doesn't need to be shorter than the existing one.

yeah, but if not then it needs to be a new approach

@PhiNotPi define "control flow"

@MartinEnder It was a joke, not a real CMC. I don't have a definition for you.

In computer science, control flow (or alternatively, flow of control) is the order in which individual statements, instructions or function calls of an imperative program are executed or evaluated. The emphasis on explicit control flow distinguishes an imperative programming language from a declarative programming language. Within an imperative programming language, a control flow statement is a statement whose execution results in a choice being made as to which of two or more paths should be followed. For non-strict functional languages, functions and language constructs exist to achieve the...

@PhiNotPi well I thought with a proper definition it might be an interesting question :P

@MartinEnder +1 haha

9:26 PM
Any way to refer to one argument in another optional argument in a function?
i.e. def f(n, r=range(n)):

I think this was one of the thinks I wished existed...

?
*things?
and :( so that doesn't work?
work-around:
def f(n, r=None):
    if r == None: r = range(n)

is None falsy?

yes
but range(n) could be [], which is also falsy

ah okay

9:30 PM
Hello

and it's best to be clear anyway
@Qwerp-Derp hello

well in some languages r = r or default is idiomatic
or even r ||= default

Ummm... is it possible for you guys to reopen my question?

@MartinEnder o_O wat
@Qwerp-Derp which one?
it needs 5 votes or mod hammer to reopen

@HelkaHomba :D nice!

9:42 PM
@EᴀsᴛᴇʀʟʏIʀᴋ instead of "duplicating" the argument in declaration, how about duplicating it in the call to function ? like f(a,range(a))

yeah, but I can't do that given the inputs

And use f(*a) in the function declaration, so that's a[1] and a[2]

hmmm ,k . . .

it's hanoi, and the function takes the single input of the starting depth
:(

@EᴀsᴛᴇʀʟʏIʀᴋ 25 minutes have passed. Are you able to help?

@DestructibleWatermelon hm?

10:45 PM
@DestructibleWatermelon sure
what do you need

Weird builtins, multiparadigm, most paradigms being eso (tape and stuff), etc.
I was going to add the commands tape-left and tape-right.

hm, okay
@DestructibleWatermelon better stack is needed, you can use the same one as FOG uses

Wait dw
I figured the question out

@DestructibleWatermelon Wentelx87? hard to program esolang

10:48 PM
huh?

tape-ish, self-modifying

It isn't tapeish, it just can be

also I was going to add delete, which does nothing but delete itself
I'm adding the stuff now
will commit and push soon, 5 minutes I think

You don't need to tell us about every action you take.

10:55 PM
@DestructibleWatermelon pull?

protip: this is going to be a secondary stack. because you only fix things when they are broken
or you might break someones work flow
