2:00 AM
ahh, right

Anonymous
Man I'm bad at golfing :P

Anonymous
I've gotten to the point where I'm not even good anymore at using my own language

Did you hit the ball into a lake several times?

Anonymous
@El'endiaStarman Worse. It's orbiting the moon right now.

2:01 AM
@Mego That would be extremely impressive, though.
It took Apollo 8 three days to get there. The trip was a week altogether.

@El'endiaStarman Yeah. He's been golfing for a week, with no success.

Anonymous
If this was bowling I'd be winning so hard

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ He might have good luck contacting NASA...

@El'endiaStarman NASA? They wouldn't take a south-polean seriously.
Does python have a .match function?

As in regexes?

2:06 AM
Yeah.

Yes.
re.match

With import re?

cool.
Not only am I a #Pythnoob, I'm a #Pythonnoob

Don't feel bad; I only learned how to do regexes in Python a couple weeks ago. :P

import re; print re.search(r"[A-Z]", input()).groups()

@El'endiaStarman Can I sort something by it's length?

It's weird to see a +1 and a -1 in the chat avatar icons. :P

2:09 AM
If some big company invested millions of dollars in developing a programming language purely for golfing, how much do you thing the average length of those programs would compare percentage-wise to the Pyth/Cjam/etc. around here?

Anonymous
@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ sorted(iter, key=len)

@Mego thanks
@Calvin'sHobbies They'd still be longer, unless they hired us.

Is there a function in Pyth to check if something is uppercase?

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ Suppose they hire us then

@Calvin'sHobbies Hmm. I'd guess it'd be no better than 50%, at best.

2:10 AM
@Calvin'sHobbies Then Dennis will lead us into victory, and will discover some way to put 1024 commands into 256 bytes.

Anonymous
@Calvin'sHobbies All their programs would be 0-length, because they would never finish the language. It'd be stuck in development hell indefinitely.

Not kidding, I mean like operator overloading

Anonymous
@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ That's a seriously good idea

@Mego Seriously? I was only kidding, right ???

@Doᴡɴɢᴏᴀᴛ Oh, sorry, not Python

2:12 AM
mini-challenge make a sentence that makes sense using the names of programming languages. Sentence with the most stars wins.

Anonymous
Pyth, CJam, and Seriously all support operator overloading

Anonymous
@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ Seriously, Golfscript, Pyth, or CJam?

I think I'll make a practical language that can be run with a -golf flag.

@Doᴡɴɢᴏᴀᴛ rI"A"1
(I think)

Does python have a regex.escape function?

2:13 AM
@Sp3000 thanks!

Anonymous
@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ Raw strings, r'foo'

Anonymous
'foo\\1' == r'foo\1'

@Doᴡɴɢᴏᴀᴛ Do you know if it's a letter?

2:14 AM
@Dennis yeah, it's always a letter

-\AG returns 'A', and -\aG returns ''.
If you need a Boolean, you can use L, but than it's no longer shorter than rI...1.

@Dennis longer shorter?

(no longer) shorter

also, why does @Dennis even know the word longer, I thought he only knew the word shorter

I bowled code once.

Anonymous
2:18 AM
@Dennis audible gasp

I also trolled code. I was young new and needed the rep.

:O

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ [Tedious] [Random] [Monkeys] [R] [My Unreliable Past].

@Dennis thanks

@PhiNotPi man, if only they had something other than a potato to record with

2:20 AM
No extra words needed.

@Dennis how old are you?

31

MONTH?!
wow

Shit, I'm older than Dennis?

@orlp They always have potato computers.

2:22 AM
@Geobits Yeah!
Still younger than Peter though

I used to be really young
but now I'm 21
yet I still feel young

That is really young.

^

4/10 fairly young

@Dennis ehh

2:24 AM
It's only 30% or so of the usual life expectancy. So... young ;)

Anonymous
@orlp At least you still have 2 more years of people liking you

True. Nobody likes you when you're 23.

@Geobits the life expectancy in your country is only 70?!

I said "or so" :P

Yeah. We have IHOP here.

2:25 AM
IHOP?

It's misleading, because it's not international, and it's not made out of pancakes

Anonymous
@Geobits Yeah what about it? :P

@Dennis Int. is ambiguous. It's not an integer house of pancakes. :P
@Geobits good god this is old

That's just overloading.

Internal House of Pancakes :)

2:27 AM
I miss pancakes. They stopped importing my syrup and pancakes are just no good w/o syrup...

You can make your own

Butter pecan syrup is the best.

Sacrifice a Canadian. They bleed maple syrup.

@AlexA. I doubt it. It has to be sugar free.

I bet you could do it with some experimentation.

2:28 AM
@Dennis syrup without sugar?

That's some serious blasphemy.

Anonymous
Syrup without sugar is just water

@orlp Sorry, I was going to barf

I have diabetes, so I don't really have a choice.

2:29 AM
@AlexA. CENSORSHIP!

¯\_(ツ)_/¯ What can I say? PPCG is a police state.

@Dennis can't you just mix it with insulin?

Anonymous
My understanding is that splenda and other sugar substitutes aren't any better than actual sugar, because of the negative effects fake sugars have on the body

Splenda has a weird astringent taste to me. Better than Nutrasweet or others, but still pretty bad.

@orlp I don't use insulin.
Yet.

2:31 AM
@Mego For dieting, not much better. For diabetes...

^

@Geobits I read a paper regarding long term effects of Splenda in animals. Hella tumors, bro.

Yea, my mom uses it in everything. Even coffee. Any time I visit I make sure to make my own cup.

Anonymous
@Geobits Hmm. Now that I think about it, it makes sense. The main issue with artificial sweeteners is that they cause your body to release insulin like they're actually sugar, and then you end up with low blood sugar and all sorts of other unpleasant effects. For a diabetic, that's a non-issue, I suppose :P

Do IHOPs have sugar free syrup?

2:32 AM
I don't think so
At least not that I've seen

They probably do if you ask.

Anonymous
^

Granted I haven't been to an IHOP in like 15 years

Anonymous
They don't have sugar free on the tables, but they can get you some if you ask nicely

you guys have ihop
we have STROOPWAFELS

Anonymous
2:33 AM
Alternatively, omelettes

Anonymous
Chorizo omelette is worth killing for

It'll be called iHop once IHOP is purchased by Apple.

Anonymous
@orlp Finland?

I should check out the local IHOP then.

Netherlands, broseph

2:33 AM
@AlexA. That's their new line of pogo sticks / trampolines / some other dumb jumping thing.

nothing better

Anonymous
Ahh

exists than a fresh stroopwafel

Anonymous
I have a Finnish internet friend who is always going on about stroopwafels

That does look pretty damn good.

2:34 AM
the ones out of a packet are ok, but fresh ones are insane

I miss street crepe stands :(

@AlexA. Interesting. I only have the water, stevia and salt though. Not sure where to find the rest.

A stroopwafel (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈstroːpʋaːfəl]; literally "syrup waffle") is a waffle made from two thin layers of baked dough with a caramel-like syrup filling in the middle. It is popular in the Netherlands, where they were first made in the city of Gouda. == Ingredients and bakingEdit == The stiff dough for the waffles is made from flour, butter, brown sugar, yeast, milk, and eggs. Medium-sized balls of dough are put into a heated waffle iron and pressed into the required uniformly thin, round shape. After the waffle has been baked, and while it's still warm, it is split into thin layered...

@Dennis I don't know what's available there but if you might be able to find the other things in like a "healthy" supermarket kind of thing.

Anonymous
@Dennis Maple and lemon extract are commonly found on seasoning/baking aisles in grocery stores. Xanthan gum can be bought off of Amazon.

2:37 AM
I've seen xantham gum in stores

@Mego I don't even know how to say maple in Spanish, so I'm positive I won't get it here. I should be able to buy it from Amazon though.

Anonymous
@Dennis arce

@Dennis If you're buying things from Amazon, you may as well just buy sugar free maple syrup from Amazon. :P

@AlexA. At least stevia is easy. It's originally from Paraguay.

My high school spanish 1 teacher was Canadian. Maple is one of the words that we had to learn

That explains it. I don't know the word because there are no maple trees here.

Maple trees?

oh

^^^ Only result I could find for global growing regions for maple trees.

2:41 AM
seuters
a specialty from where I grew up
tiny potatoes baked for hours in lard, with tons of salt and pepper
my god they're tasty

@AlexA. I have to pay for the shipping per kilogram. That's going to be pretty expensive syrup. I'm also not sure if the carrier ships liquids...

As for sugar maples, the kind maple syrup is made from...

Hmm. So are we going to have the same swag deal as Crypto when we graduate later on in the year?

@Geobits We better. shakes fist

2:45 AM
> The Canadian province of Quebec is by far the largest producer, responsible for about three-quarters of the world's output; Canadian exports of maple syrup exceed C$145 million (approximately US$130.5 million) per year. Vermont is the largest producer in the United States, generating about 5.5 percent of the global supply.

@Geobits You shall not seduce us with your lies.

Geobits isn't lying - it's just a very liberal definition of "soon"

Ouch. I'm caught in a Boy Who Cried Wolf situation here. The one time I actually have some inside info, and nobody believes me :(

Your fault for crying wolf the first two (or so) times.
