But you'll learn something at least

@quartata Have you had any ascensions? (And if so, conducts?)

@Doorknob 0 ascensions.

Have you gotten close? :P

@Geobits No tables must be flipped if you recognize that ಠ_ಠ isn't my sock.

I do try to stay atheist and I always kill myself if my pet dies. I guess that's conduct.

1:00 AM
haha what

@Doorknob DL10, XP level 9 is the farthest I've gotten.

@quartata Atheist is one of the... more challenging conducts.

@AlexA. I make no judgement on that. But you seemed to be calling to him for aid or something.
But in the interests of seeing tables flipped, I think he's your sock.

> I always kill myself if my pet dies

@AlexA. Yeah.

1:01 AM
Some dude just upvoted, like, tons of stuff of mine .____.

Not actually that strange.

Eh, you can always toss some food to a stray dog or cat or horse or something if your starting pet dies

Do I have any of you to thank for that?

@Doorknob I know. But I always feel guilty.

1:02 AM
> I do try to stay atheist
But I just keep thinking about Jesus.

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ Not much to thank for. It'll get reversed if it was too much.

Same thing happens in MC whenever my pets die

@AlexA. Atheist in NetHack means you don't use an altar, sacrifice anything or pray.

1:02 AM
@quartata or talk to a priest

It's a fairly difficult conduct actually, along with vegan.

aka no intrinsic protection

@Doorknob Ah yes.

ahem keep religion talk to a minimum ?

1:03 AM
@AlexA. Only 262? I expected more...

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ There's a serial voting script that runs once a day to check for that kind of thing. If it thinks it was someone just voting up all your stuff, it'll reverse the votes.

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ By Anhur...

@AlexA. Ooh... Is that a reference to me I just came back? :P

@Geobits Yes, it runs at 2:00 AM UTC, and I believe the minimum threshold is three up/downvotes.

@Geobits Lol. I think it was the same person, so I'm going to lose all that rep ;-;

1:04 AM
@Geobits ┻━┻ ︵¯\_(ಠ_ಠ)_/¯︵ ┻━┻

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ yeah it was definitely the same person
@AlexA. hey that's my thing :P

Yep. Looking at your profile, it definitely looks like it to me.

@Doorknob Yes!

NEWS FLASH

1:04 AM
14 upvotes all within a minute or so on all different posts, lol.

@quartata I would have a hard time conducting in this game.

@AlexA. 'tis a most unholy combination of ಠ_ಠ, (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻, and ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I know this

@Doorknob's spiciest meme has been stolen by @AlexA from the Museum of All Things Doorknob.

@AlexA. Well, polyselfless and polypileless are pretty straightforward.

1:05 AM
@Doorknob It was probably my friend >_<

He is currently on the run, and the Keystone Kops are looking for any informations as to his whereabouts.

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ Yeah, don't worry about it. The script will do its thing, some time in the next 24 hours.

@Doorknob Ya still like to ping?

No, he's given up pinging.

1:06 AM
@Zizouz212 Wherever did you get that idea?

He swore off it after spending a while in ping rehab.
Oh, looks like he's relapsed.
@quartata shhhh

I hope he didn't see that
Gotta keep up a good second impression

Okay, the chat topic is taking effect. I should get back to my biology homework. After I finish that I can go play Nethack for @AlexA. :P

haha

@Doorknob :D

1:07 AM
I have to finish this apple and my PBASIC answer. Then I'll play some NetHack for you.

@Doorknob Ooh... Bio

Biology is easy. Babies grow up and make more babies. QED.

You'll probably learn more from watching @Doorknob except I'm actually good at Tourist and he's not shots fired

Ha, I'm in Canada. Tomorrow is Thanksgiving suckers!

@Zizouz212 That's cool. Except for the Canada part :P

1:08 AM
@quartata Tell that to my genocideless Tourist ascension!

@Doorknob REALLY

(mostly because I couldn't find any geno scrolls for the life of me)

FITE ME

@Geobits Oh, sorry 'bout that. (I'm feel kinda sassy now)

TELL THAT TO MY DL8 VEGAN TOURIST NON-ASCENSION

1:08 AM
hahaha

The only reason why I haven't ascended is because of my horrible relationship with !rngattitude

You're a vegan tourist?

Yes.

@Zizouz212 Nah, Canada's fine. I've only been there a few times, but it seemed nice enough.
The Toronto area anyway.

@Geobits Go to Vancouver and Victoria, BC. Are nice.

1:10 AM
The entire Tourist class is actually a reference to Terry Pratchett's awesome Discworld series.

I live in Toronto :)

Supposedly Montreal is as well.

@AlexA. Old Montreal is beaaaaaaautiful :)

@quartata Is that IRL?

@Doorknob If I can find the transcript there's a fairly amusing five minute half crying half rant with Rodney in IRC

1:10 AM
@Zizouz212 Oui, so I've heard. Never been though.

@AlexA. No. Not a vegan.

what do people think of a challenge about small-caps conversion (inspired by @CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ username)?

@quartata :D

@quartata But you're a tourist IRL?

@Maltysen YES.

1:10 AM
The one time I went for more than a day or so was to Toronto (for aboot three weeks). I've heard other places are more "Canadian", whatever that means :)

@AlexA. A lot of Canada is beautiful :D

@Maltysen Seems dece.

There's no official transcript but I do know that people keep logs

@AlexA. No...

Oh.

1:11 AM
@Doorknob My IRC client keeps transcripts I believe.

Wow, chat's super active for a weekend O_o
@quartata Mine too (irssi).

@Zizouz212 I like the Vancouver, BC area.

Vancouver is really nice, but reaaaly expensive

I remember. I had to go there for a conference many years ago.
"Had." I chose to go a conference there.
The convention center is very nice.

Dammit I thought Xchat kept a transcript
Ah well here's how it went.

1:13 AM
"Blah blah blah, I'm Doorknob," said Doorknob. The end.
That's how it went?

strange though
In typography, small capitals (usually abbreviated small caps) are uppercase (capital) characters set at the same height and weight as surrounding lowercase (small) letters or text figures. They are used in running text to prevent capitalized words from appearing too large on the page, and as a method of emphasis or distinctiveness for text alongside or instead of italics, or when boldface is inappropriate. For example, the all-caps TEXT IN CAPS appears as text in caps in small caps. They can be used to draw attention to the opening phrase or line of a new section of text, or to provide an additional...

Okay, I'm almost done with that biology homework. But Aditsu's Law is continuing to take effect!

No capitalization makes me mad.
when ppl tlk liek dis

@Doorknob So funny watching people panicking with homework xD

Small caps has capitalization.
I write in small caps pretty often.

Small caps has no capitalization. At least where I'm from, the word "capitalization" in this context refers to proper capitalization.

@Justin Small caps?

1:27 AM
@Justin you just use normal caps.

@Zizouz212 psh there's no school on Monday

I'm confused

I just don't wanna have to spend my Monday doing excessive amounts of homework :P

@Doorknob Wait, I thought Canada and the US had different Thanksgiving days?

That's one way to look at it. If you count "bigger letters", easily distinguishable, it's easy to capitalize.

1:27 AM
tomorrow's Columbus Day

"ಠ"\,"_"\{;_}/"ಠ"
Why doesn't this worky

I don't have tomorrow off ;-;

@Doorknob Columbus Day?

@Doorknob Not to sound unpatriotic or anything but it drives me nuts that's celebrated. Columbus was buried in handcuffs. That should tell you a bit about what people thought about him.

Wait, the Spanish dude?
That tried to find India?

1:29 AM
Yeah that guy

Yeah Columbus Day is one of the most useless holidays that there are. (Other than that I get to have a day off of school)

@Maltysen I think I messed up and thought of lowercase, whereas small caps would be this: Lᴏʀᴅ (that's one of the only words I've seen like that)
Sorry...

Yes, he's the guy that supposedly "discovered America"

@Doorknob Ha, that's funny.

@quartata They get a day off here on Friday. So close to Columbus Day, but they don't call it that. It's the Fall Holiday according to the school board ;)

1:30 AM
Fall Holiday?
Like, for Autumn?
No offence, that's the stupidest holiday I've ever heard of.

hue hue

color color

Yea. Just like they had Yom Kippur off, but it was called something else. The two weeks off at Christmas is the "Winter Break", etc. It's all a PC game.

saturation saturation

Basically, some people got offended that the kids got off for Christmas and Easter, but not holidays for other religions. So instead of giving them tons of holidays, they just changed all the names on the schedule.

1:32 AM
@Geobits Where is this?

Florida here, but I know it's done in a few other places also.

But seriously can any CJam experts tell me what is wrong with my code?
"ಠ"\,"_"\{;_}/"ಠ"

Besides it being CJam?
It looks suspiciously like a mutant emoji.

@quartata That's a language?

1:34 AM
@Geobits Reminds me of something I learned about last year. It's called "Fall Break". Apparently kids get an entire week off in the Fall, just like Spring Break. Distinct from Thanksgiving, it seems.

@Zizouz212 sure, it's one of the most common here on PPCG
It's basically GolfScript++

Geez... no offence, but what do you guys do?

> abandon all work, ye who enter here —aditsu

n["_"]"ಠ"d1R(O).

Hey, don't lump me in with the CJammers. They're a breed of their own, and don't mingle well with others.

1:35 AM
Just watch this being a language...
&*(%&$#$J# % |}":/';#$

@Zizouz212 Homework, coding, homework, coding, math, coding, homework...

Wow...
So is that gibberish a language?

@Zizouz212 Wanna see what a sample program for the Java golfing language I'm working on looks like?
@Zizouz212 Yes.
There's worse, trust me.

@Zizouz212 It's probably Perl :P

@quartata Yes, let's see.

1:36 AM
@Zizouz212 I for one am developing a (2+1)D stack-based semi-golfing language. :P

Contains unprintables.

Wow...

Here's FizzBuzz in Snowman:
)1vn101nR:du*_/3NmO0eQ)(#5NmO0eQ
}~(~%@or(%nO?_/)#%@{%@tS?)aRsP@@
"Fizz"_aRsP\"Buzz"aRsP?)10wRsP;aE

It accomplishes this challenge: codegolf.stackexchange.com/questions/57802/…

1:37 AM
I assume Sy.o is a System.out?

> What programming languages have been created by PPCG users?
o_O

Sy matches System, o matches out, ` matches the 7th function of o on an updraft (printf)

Oh yes, language design is very fun. You should see Martin's Hexagony.

Quick question: do you guys have an opinion on the future of programming languages? Basically, at some point, processor clock speed cannot increase, but number of processors can, so we should be aiming for easily multithreaded languages, right?

Is that a language that where you make hexagons to code?

1:37 AM
@PhiNotPi Oh, that reminds me to add my entry to that.

And that person made this?

So the start is an import?

\2 matches the second package (java) on a downdraft, `2 matches the second package (time) on a updraft.
Yes.

But yeah, CJam and Pyth are usually the main contenders for shortest code, and they were both created by PPCG users.

So that first statement expands to import java.time.*;

1:38 AM
(GolfScript is completely obsolete now)

$ enables stack mode

I look forward to seeing the spec/docs :)

Pyth is like Golf-Python-Script

O_O
Why am I here again?

because someone flagged a thing

1:39 AM
Oh, is it flagging season again?

It's always flagging season. :P

Damn

Either I feel dumb watching people make messed up languages, or I am "conversing" with a bunch of people who...

L partially matches a couple classes, so the 2 matches the second to last match (updraft) of those matches (LocalTime). n matches now, g partially matches functions starting with g and the ` matches the last of those matches (getYear)

1:40 AM
I won't say it for sanity's sake

Then the result is pushed on the stack instead of being discarded since we're in stack based mode

🏁⚑⚐🏁⚑⚐🏁⚑⚐

Oh I forgot the backticks get converted into code

@Zizouz212 CJam and Pyth are unbelievably short sometimes, though.

Anyways yeah it'll be pretty cool if I can build it.

1:41 AM
I shall create a language:

It's 65 bytes which is actually not that short, but it's better than 150 bytes in java

for i in sys.stdin: if i == '.': print 'WHY DOORKNOB?'
I call it...

@quartata if your baseline is Java you're doing something wrong ;)

Why Doorknob?

Yea, Java would need quite a lot done to it to make it competitive :)
@Zizouz212 Wynaut?

1:42 AM
@Geobits WOBBBBBUFFFEEETTTT!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sometime when I have free time, I'll construct a functional golfing language. Naturally, the first step is to create a non-golfing language. Wonder if I should code the compiler/interpreter in C++ or in Java...

Because I love Java and I want to golf in it.
This would make it not suck at golfing. Maybe I can figure out a way to make it even better though.

@Zizouz212 That doesn't count as a language, according to meta policy. :P

@quartata That's not Java though. Just golf in Java, it's a nice challenge :D

1:43 AM
@quartata How about import everything from java.util (and subpackages?) by default? And perhaps from javax.swing or whatnot (just be careful of name collisions).

@Geobits The only thing that makes it different from Java is the syntax.

@Doorknob Well, my policy is currently in effect

It's basically like Pyth in that regard.
@Justin The reason why is because then it would make short matching difficult.

Okay

Just typing an i would import all packages if you want.

1:43 AM
@quartata Maybe, but then what's the point? :P

See here the reason why I'm able to match so shortly is because there aren't a lot of classes imported

> import *;

@Geobits It makes it fun
@PhiNotPi Doesn't work in Java actually.

I know

@Geobits ^^
That's like... My jam.

1:44 AM
There is no such thing as a package hierarchy in Java which is what makes it very strange.
@Zizouz212 Your CJam

@quartata Meh. I'd rather just code it out than code it out and then change the syntax after looking up what order methods come in each class.

ba dum tish

@quartata Are you doing operations in infix? You could get rid of the infix and go to postfix or prefix right? Everyone loves RPS.

oh btw @Zizouz212, I told TheWobbuffet about you. He tells me you fought to the death? :P

What?

1:45 AM
that other guy on SE with a wobbuffet avatar whose name is TheWobbuffet

@Justin RPN would technically work in stack based mode ($)
But not normally otherwise.

@quartata Hahaha RPS = reverse polish sausage. Having trouble not laughing at that.

I was so confused...

Ah... Him.

^^

1:46 AM
He didn't even have Pokemon... -_-

(I should have waited until the edit period ended before telling you that @quartata)

> This isn't your average everyday line noise, this is advanced line noise.

I probably would have noticed.
@Zizouz212 1{"WHY DOORKNOB?"p}h

RPS = rock-paper-scissors

Scissors for life

1:48 AM
@quartata Ah... What?

Just some CJam code.

@Zizouz212 Outputs WHY DOORKNOB? forever in CJam.

@quartata Oh.
Thats...
interesting.

There's got to be a shorter way to output in a forever loop, no?

It executes the block {"WHY DOORKNOB?"p} for as long as the top value of the stack (1 in this case) is truthy
@Geobits No there isn't.

1:49 AM
@Geobits #define ever (;;) Then... for ever { xD

I could do one in fish
Here one second.

{print"WHY DOORKNOB?";redo}

c#

fn main(){loop{println!("WHY ZIZOUZ?");}}

#define ever (;;)
int main()
{
    for ever {
        printf(":)");
    }
}

1:51 AM
@quartata Wow, CJam is more verbose than I thought :P
@Zizouz212 I don't see sharp, but is that missing a } ?

@Geobits Yes, it is :)

that's... plain C, right?

@Geobits It's not really. Just that it wasn't designed to do infinite loops.

@Doorknob C++ :)

but that also works in C

1:53 AM
@quartata Responding seriously to jokes is a good way of deflating them :(

Yep
You could also do this
#define forever for(;;)
int main()
{
    forever {
        printf(":D");
    }
}

@quartata In Minkolang: "WHY DOORKNOB?"(O)

WHILE 1
DISP "WHY DOORKNOB?
END

In Snowman, I believe the shortest way is }:"WHY ZIZOUZ?"sp;bD

class A{public static void main(String[]a){for(;;)System.out.print(":D");}}

1:54 AM
(because, ya know, Java)

+1

forever {
    printf("Why Ziz?");
}

!{WHY\ DOORKNOB\?`}

@Geobits That might be the only time I've seen a "+1" from Geobits.

while :;do echo WHY ZIZOUZ\?;done

1:57 AM
@Justin Use Java more often :P

@Geobits Guess that means I have to implement my future language in Java, rather than C++.

CJam's in Java, right?
But Snowman's in C++, and Snowman is obviously the better golfing language

Depends. Whatever points you get from me might be offset by the horde :)
