well, there's knowing about the stack, and knowing generally TCP/IP and moreso what protocols do what, how security should be done, best practices etc.
what do you think is a good chronological learning for me to get a solid linux and networks understanding? @ThomasW.
Like, I'm studying the bash right now, about to finish a book, I learned a lot of new things about how the system operates (not so deeply though) and a better understanding of command line
I'm curious, so I end up looking for things that are out of the scope of what I'm learning, but I was thinking what I could read after finishing this bash book

@IanC Have you see the man7 project? It has a TON of man pages online, and is even color-coded within each
@onebree, I haven't, but I'll look for it now! Might sound silly, but reading man pages on bash can be tiring sometimes, guess I'd rather read them in a better looking page haha
@ThomasW., before starting chemistry eng, I thought about making computer science. I'm not sure if I'd start a whole graduation again now though
So my buddy was having issues with Windows 10 and he tried to recover it via Windows 7 , or reinstall Windows 7. Couldn't have it working. As soon as I show up, it started working. #SergMagic
I've seem lots of unprepared people getting the same degree, people that weren't really interested in the area itself, but in the wage that comes with it
@edwinksl I can fix many things , but I cannot fix stupid. That dog is stupid , so no - I can't fix the fence issue. Hopefully the presence of an officer with badge and uniform will help that
I mean, I used to be like "JacobVlijm writes such awesome python code, I'm never gonna be able to catch up to him " , and now lo-and-behold - I help him fix up his answers and write my own python code and shiz
The only two users on my NAS that I can SSH to are the defaults 'root' and 'admin'.
Answers that I've come across so far are like this, where I set things in /etc/ssh/sshd_config like
AllowUser userName
PermitEmptyPasswords yes
However there is no directory /etc/ssh/ but I found the file ssh...

Hi! I'm trying to install Ubuntu alongside Windows 10. I have created an Ubuntu USB drive, but when I reboot the machine no menu appears; I can't load Ubuntu from the USB drive.
@AndroidDev Actually, I have owncloud on my raspberry. Installed it on raspberry via "docker pull kickinz1/owncloud-8.0.2-sqlite3-armhf" command. I tried going to my raspberry's ip , port 80 , then it asks for creating admin account. Fairly easy setup ( cc @NathanOsman for supervision )
@Færd you need to insert USB, start the machine, and press either F8 or F12 so that it allows you to choose what to boot. Choose USB. Then you will go into installer
Or just avoid doing that and use Virtualbox from inside Win10
@Serg Just tried F8 and F12 separately. Neither worked. Does Virtualbox help me to install Ubuntu permanently, or does it just make it possible to try it inside Windows 10?
@Færd it helps you tryit inside Win10. Basically it's like running OS, but without installing it to hard drive. You can delete it as if it was a file at any time
keep in mind, virtual machines can be slow. I would recommend you use Ubuntu Gnome or Lubuntu instead of default Ubuntu
Hmm. It's a bit heavy for me (> 100 MB) to download. (Yes, that's how limited and slow my connection is;) I guess I better search for some guides on how to boot from USB. It shouldn't be that hard.
Win10 may be problematic , you might try disabling secure boot, try going into UEFI and change setting there. Older windowsers were easier to deal with. Newer ones can be pain in the lower body
I was looking around on various meta sites today, and I would like to share this link with you:

I would like your opinions on this question.
@JacobVlijm I know it has been done. I've done it too. Lately I just been making a lot of those .desktop files, so it is a bit annoying to do it by hand ( which is how i mostly create them) .
Where has @TheBrownOne disappeared ?
@NathanOsman ownCloud question. What can I do with it at home ? ( I have it on raspberry , docker image ). Just need ideas for what can be done with it. Can it be used as backup server for my lappy ?
It took me what . . . 4 years to realize I wasn't learning that much in university ? So yeah, time was wasted, but yeah, when time was right I was like "WTF , I learned more in two years of using Ubuntu than in 4 years of college life, and it's been 6 already"
@edwinksl yeah, that actually does teach you a lot , I mean , I've done scripts that I would never even think of writing by myself. And then i was like "This is super useful, why I haven't thought of this myself"
As you all may have noticed already, my Stack Exchange network accounts have all been deleted. I recently came to a decision about some things in my life, and I'm turning in some new directions. I enjoyed my time around the network, and I did make a few friends here. However, I won't be around on the network anymore as I have decided to move on and focus in on what I have discovered truly matters. Those of you who know me and have a higher chance of me responding can still email me at my personal domain email address. I'll reply every now and then, but don't expect quick replies. I will als…
@terdon also , i've question regarding this : unix.stackexchange.com/a/295787/85039 Solution was close, but doesn't work properly. Timestamp remains the same at the moment of pipe being opened. I couldn't fit explanation into one comment so had to post as an answer. Should I still post a comment or just keep my post ?
