I'm going to try out setting up a MC server on my Pi using NoIP instead of a domain...will give you the NoIP thing if it works okay. From my research it looks feasible (no major mods though, sadly)
19:15
AskUbuntu's official song:
@RPiAwesomeness Don't expect the bridge to help you 90% of the time or so.
@Seth Heh. So I've noticed :D
If the Bridge is in a discussion, chances are they won't notice you.
and the bridge is almost always in a discussion.
I've always wondered why people hate Unity so much
19:25
@Seth Not true at all!
@RPiAwesomeness agreed.
I don't mind it...
@RPiAwesomeness Oh, I could give you a good hour of ranting about it ...
But I'm busy.
@FEichinger heh, I've only been there like once, maybe twice, when there wasn't a discussion going.
Granted, I've only used Unity, so...I might be biased
19:25
Wait till you try enlightenment.
@Seth What do you think of Unity?
@RPiAwesomeness shrug. Like jrg says, it works.
dangit, my internet died
I do like it's keyboard shortcuts though.
@Seth is enlightenment another DE?
19:27
looks at stars oh great. Uktarsh/Windows 8 trolling again?
@RPiAwesomeness yes
@Seth What? Where?
Unity is bloated and slow, tries too hard at being fancy and is being reduced more and more to this "unified Ubuntu experience", rather than being useful and practical.
XDM FTW
19:31
@FEichinger Trying to take on Apple/Windows...
@FEichinger Too many relative words in that sentence.
I've heard that unity is great on Ubuntu touch
Correct.
Unity is for touch screens
Unity 8 might be, but I think Unity 7 would be awful on a touch screen... Like Windows Mobile or something.
@seth i think windows 8 he has a new user that answered two of his questions and both accepted...
19:34
@Seth Yeah, that's what I meant. Think Unity 8 will be any better?
@everyone who says we need a DM?
Ugh. Missing my Ubuntu system right now. I can't even run Word and Firefox at the same time on my Mac without lag. Granted it's 14 yrs old and has 512MB of RAM...BUT STILL!
HURRY UP POWER CORD!
i can't run firefox without running out of RAM...
@pacificfils That is most strange. I run the Nightly version just fine on 2.5GB of RAM. Had Firefox, GIMP, and Inkscape all running at once, No Probleema.
well, you aren't using a POS netbook
19:39
@pacificfils Upgrade your kernel.
@RPiAwesomeness I don't know...
@pacificfils Okay, that's funny.
@Seth Not sure if you saw this:

Q: Ubuntu bold font not imported

JeremyThe Issue Recently I noticed something odd: when booting into OSX and visiting AskUbuntu, bold fonts render oddly. I've only noticed this in Chrome; in Firefox and Safari, the bold font renders perfectly fine. For example, the following markdown (taken from the markdown help page): *This is ...

But just thought I'd send you the update
@Seth I have. I think there's a new one out though
@Jeremy Oh cool.
@pacificfils What version are you using now?
updating to 3.8.0-35
so, vote to make that YT the official AU song?
I'm on 3.11.. so you're behind ;)
@pacificfils no.
19:47
lol, and i am on 12.04
oh my god.
after being on a netbook for 3 weeks, i get on a full laptop.
it is HUGE.
I bet it is.
@Jeremy Seems like Windows 8 is still using your gravatar..
If you have a problem with that you should let the mods know.
@Seth Meh, tried that. SE wants me to fill out a DMCA report which seems like too much effort for something that's not that big of a deal =/
Oh ok.
Probably is.
My internet is suddenly acting up..
The clogs must be piped from all the students checking school websites :P
19:54
lol
askubuntu.com/q/361816/47291 notice something strange...
I wonder how many district sites crashed in the past 24 hours
@Mateo My avatar?
Wait.. wut?
CLOSE THAT
The accepted answer, check that users other accepted answer...
that is... odd.
If it happens much more the mods will catch it though.
19:57
Maybe I didn't catch it... what's odd?
The user that answered his question (and the answer he accepted) only has one more answer, also on one of his questions, also accepted.
@Mateo omg... check the revision askubuntu.com/posts/361816/revisions
And the one was switched from a more detailed answer, but recommending same program
I can't believe that was reopened.
@Seth You suspect a sock puppet?
19:59
@Braiam lots of rollbacks too
@Jeremy I dunno.. Seems odd.
Why did you un-accept? :) — Mitch Jan 1 at 16:40
^ His first question was rather odd... according to his profile, he's 13. I hope he doesn't have a 12-year-old daughter =/
huh. Downvoting the answer. Wasn't any good anyway. Compared to Mitch's.
ok, that seems like a comment, it doesn't even tells how to install it...
Maybe... Someone they know?
20:02
could be that too.
My internet died again..
@Seth time to restart the router ;)
perhaps.

Q: Bad Request (400) Using nginx + gunicorn

RicoI'm configuring a Django site to use Nginx, gunicorn and supervisor - it's my first time. Everything seems to be setup correctly but I get a Bad Request (400) shown in the browser when I go to the site. If I use the default in the sites-enabled I see nginx's welcome page. I subsequently remove...

@Seth I did some digging. It appears to be a sock puppet!
Go to askubuntu.com/users/231631/sparkle, look at his website. Scroll down to "Not went to Picnic; let’s see what will happen tonight" and look at the image he linked to. Look at the tags on the picture
@Seth do you see something weird in the title? askubuntu.com/q/401116/169736
20:15
Also, look at the username in the top right of the photo
Well now I'm not exactly sure how I got to that page, it seems when I click it now it takes me to the picture and not the page that had the tags... interesting. Regardless, the username on the snapshot shows "Uktarsh"
@oli ^
20:30
Muktware saddens me.
And, word to the wise: don't try to make a fool of me online:
@RolandiXor You'll work too. :D ^
@Jeremy for?
Food?
This user is likely a sock puppet for this use.
Go to the first user's website, scroll down to a snapshot of GNOME and look at the username in the top right. That's an old alias for the second user. Additionally, both of Sparkle's answers are accepted answers on Windows8's questions. On one of his questions, Windows8 even changed the accepted answer to Sparkle's when the previous accepted answer was clearly better
Also, don't be fooled by Windows 8's avatar. He stole mine :P
44 mins ago, by Jeremy
The clogs must be piped from all the students checking school websites :P
*Pipes must be clogged
@RolandiXor Still there? =/
20:45
@Jeremy sorry about that I had to go afk for a bit
I'll look into it, thanks!
@Jeremy I changed it
I noticed a number of users are stealing your avatar recently.
@RolandiXor Haha thanks. SE wanted me to fill out a dmca report
@RolandiXor Oh? Who else
@Jeremy they did?
Argh. Vote down requires 125 reputation. I have 121 reputation :/
Is he the same as Utkarsh?
or whatever his name is?
@RolandiXor Windows 8 used to be Uktarsh
20:48
I see.
Utkarsh is his username on his machine.
@Jeremy I see. Maybe I should change his image back to yours so they can handle it.
@RolandiXor -.- If you must. But I probably won't fill out a dmca report. It seems their way of "handling it" is to just ignore it
@Jeremy no, it isn't.
20:52
They can't ignore it.
Just file the report; I personally won't get too deeply involved in that part of it.
Some idiots aren't able to create a legit looking sockpupet.
who are we DMCAing?
(please be apple, please be apple, please be apple)
unfortunately, Ask Ubuntu. About a stolen user avatar.
??
what, how, and who?
20:58
Relax, relax.
Let SE handle it.
Change subject :)
and do I need to change my avatar?
No.
Change subject.
fine Rolandi.
20:59
hisses
Topics like this can go where they shouldn't; hence my advice.
hisses too
so ask is gonna be hit with a DMCA from ask?
wow.
Let's keep this all clear of the chatroom...
21:01
I don't want to be a bully, though I can.
But we should leave the subject out of chat now.
goes to the Bother Pac room
-_-...
@Jeremy I can't get his image to load.. and my internet is acting crazy.
This isn't good. Esp. since it works fine on the other computers.
@Seth That's odd =/
@Seth time to restart the system ;)
BTW, can someone tell me the differences between "Does a desktop need to set up a private cloud?" and "Is a desktop needed to set up a private cloud?"?
21:05
@Braiam I did that and restarted the router too.
the first doesn't make sense to me...
@Seth cleared cache and cookies?
@Jeremy Got it to load on another computer.. I guess it could be friends tagging his name in there, but it certainly is suspicious. Mods (like @RolandiXor) can see users IP addresses, so if both users are in the same area it should be obvious. And they can see voting patterns.
@Braiam No, good idea. Let me do that.
@Seth We're looking at it :)
But I won't discuss details.
Alright.
@Seth internet's fine?
21:09
@Braiam So far, gotta go now, but looks okay. I forget to clear my cookies sometimes.
I usually put that off since I have to log into everything again.

@Mateo - I found out what my segfault on 12.04 was about for CamCastic. Details here: bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=710447 <-- it was a corner case with specific package versions all lining up.
Searching for Suckit rootkit... Warning: /sbin/init INFECTED

$ lsb_release -a
No LSB modules are available.
Distributor ID:	Ubuntu
Description:	Ubuntu Trusty Tahr (development branch)
Release:	14.04
Codename:	trusty
sigh
why are you sighing?
Because this is my work laptop. Not a testing machine.
So why is it running 14.04?
23:10
Because 13.10 has a bug which makes it impossible to install here.
I see. Well 14.04 is said to be pretty stable.
It's surprisingly stable. At least it boots and doesn't throw errors every other minute.
Hello
@Seth do you want to help me?
2 days ago, by Windows 8
I am new here, can someone tell me ehat we talk about?
19 hours ago, by Sparkle
What do we talk about here?
@Andrew Actually just the other day I heard Seth saying about how he was dying to help you :P
With what
23:14
I'm always willing to help, but you don't usually provide all the information I ask for.
@Andrew I'm kidding :)
Anyway, what's going on now?
@Seth ^ something interesting I found
@Seth I want to develop a desktop enviroment
@Seth guess why?
And he said hi to himself:
14 hours ago, by Windows 8
@Sparkle hi welcome here
23:16
@Jeremy Yeah.. I noticed sparkles says he's 16 too
I am 14
@Seth Oh, investigating socks? Neat.
@Seth Windows 8 is 13 according to his profie?
I guess they're just friends. if they keep doing this sort of stuff though it'll be voting fraud.
@FEichinger yeah
@Andrew No guesses.
You really think they're friends and not aliases?
23:17
@Jeremy Yes and yes.
Innocent until proven guilty approach? :P
ofc
@Seth Because all of the DE's all have this problem. You can only customize it to a period until you need to chance the code and recompile it. I want a DE that every thing a plugin.... that work together like Joomla
23:20
flag with what?
It is a dup. of what?

Thought it'd be about time to post that :)
@ThomasW. o/
(in discussion with the release team, it was suggested to use Jan. 27 as the EOL date for the purposes of the reminder)
@Andrew nvm. It's gone now.
\o @Braiam
23:21
@Seth 1 entire hour that....
@Braiam You missed an old argument on that. I for one don't think it should be changed. We don't need 4 tags that mean almost the same thing.
@Seth so you like my idea about the DE?
@Seth but they are not the same thing!!!
@Andrew How is that a duplicate?
@Andrew It would be interesting alright.
@Braiam I know that
Oli sums it up well:
> They're all pretty generic and they overlap huge amounts. I think in their case it's much more useful to have one tag to describe that we're talking about the command line and anything else be specific to the problem.
23:22
@Seth It would take awhile to code and festerateing to get all thing to work togetmer... but...
but?
@Seth please, see around, in SU only 5% of the question have 2 out the 3 tags, and UL only 10%
@Seth my festeration come from how do I add a new hide mode for Kde Panel or Kpanel or what ever it is called.
@Andrew Well I don't use KDE so...
@Seth it was an ex.
23:24
@Braiam bah humbug what the other sites do. If they want a mess let 'em have it.
they don't have a mess... we have 4,370 questions that has vaguely relationship between one and another...
@Seth where was that discussion?
@Seth My other issure is with the menu and the desktop. it is coded to overlap insaid of being one thing... it is hard for me to explain but you are understanding what I am saying?
@Braiam Dunno if I can find it.. It would be useful if I had the 10k tools... Let me see if I can coax SE search to be useful.

@AskUbuntuMeta You're slow to pick up on these things.
23:26
@Andrew No, not really.. I've found it's usually best to just find a DE that works and use it.
@Seth this one was against the merge of terminal and commandline meta.askubuntu.com/a/824/169736
@Braiam Could you please provide example questions that would need the tags separate?
All I can see is "they're different things, so keep them different" ...
Redundancy is redundant.
If you get my drift.
@Seth no DE works for me. I get festered with how it is coded why is the menu different from a desktop. why can't I have the menu as an desktop? Why...
@FEichinger I did... in the question :(
recent example here askubuntu.com/q/401201/169736 (shell tag)
@FEichinger I love it :P
and are essentially the same, usually even referring to specifically. No need to keep that all separate, if it's about bash, use friggin .
is only different from if referring to a specific shell, in which case, again: specific shell's tag.
23:31
@FEichinger please be enlightened unix.stackexchange.com/q/4126/41104
@Seth how can I change how it handle desktops with a GUI interface. like you just draw the lines to the plugins to plugins, if you don't like just wright an plugin that does what you want or download one, chance the setting on it, make a plugin for that plugin called like an miroplugin...
@Braiam I don't disagree that they're different things. But the questions where these tags would apply do not need that difference.
We don't need to copy all the other SE sites on the network.
@Seth I only am offering examples of good use that seems to be a problem of creating tags...
@Seth I think Haiku has something like this for settings and divers.
23:33
And, yeh, can we please stop using other sites as reference for how we're supposed to work? Especially when the one thing we should take from other sites is better voting activity - and that ain't happening.
@Andrew I have no idea.
@Braiam "good" is extremely relative.
@Seth on the Haiku part or what I am saying
rather both
@hbdgaf interesting
23:34
@Braiam btw, the other discussion I was talking about seems to have been deleted.
(first from sparkle's blog)
Not definitely incriminating, but adds more suspicion
@RolandiXor --^
@Jeremy Extremely interesting...
@Jeremy the mods are on it already... just flag the related post ;)
@Seth let me check the tools
He's just digging more evidence up.
@Braiam KK. iirc it was heavily downvoted and was posted by a user named "Dims" or something like that.
23:38
@Seth about how much time?
@Braiam How much time?
how much time since then?
there are 2k questions and 8k id's -_-
it was a while ago.
Late 2012?
<--- felling stupid doing bruteforce against the links
why is it funny?
23:45

@Seth err... we don't have the same sense of humor... so... nvm

@Seth ... Read ... Read the URL ...
Huh. It didn't have a big banner with his name on it a couple of hours ago

@Seth I searched google for "sparklelimited utkarsh" and it seems that he deleted the link to himself as the author on his blog, but it still exists
yall are insane.
@Jeremy Well, he just removed all the references to the author name off the front page.

yep. yall are insane.
err... no close votes***
@Braiam it has a close vote from me AFAICT
23:52
Oh, yay, my mail is about to be flooded ...
still shows as "close (1)" to me
okay. my cpu cant go above 0.80 ghz, the frequency monitor notification icon doesn't change anythinh.
can i fix this w/o reboot?
@ThomasW. I haven't check the link :)
but ok... I believe you...
@Seth Aha! Google cache incriminates the culprit: webcache.googleusercontent.com/…
Are we done digging, then?
Flag against one of the user's posts, add the relevant information, wait for mods to handle.
23:55
^ my point...
No need to dig up five instances of the same information.
Yes, done. That last link is a dead giveaway
Can someone tell me how to raise my CPUFREq from 0.8 GHz please??
@pacificfils How did you even manage to get it that low without hardware fault?
big cpu. 0.8 - 2.4 ghz
i'd LIKE it at 2.4, but it won't change.
so...
23:56
@ThomasW. because packaging java apps is a pain...
how do i fix this in terminal?
@Seth remember me tomorrow start from meta.askubuntu.com/posts/5547/revisions ;)
@pacificfils hardware specific. some hardware won't let you set cpufreq directly. even on windows it doesn't work right. i know a guy that builds windows boxes. he was complaining that cpufreq is set by the mobo based on load, so you have to tax it for several minutes to get the fans to spin up and the performance bits to kick in.
this worked before i updated me kernel
