What kind of sessions are they anyway? Both data with one overlaying/updating the content of the other?
Is there anything special about the on-disk layout? Maybe it would be easier to mount the disk and author a new disk with the files from it.

1:34 PM
That's what I'm checking.

Eeeek - just got an Accept on a 5 years old answer of mine.

in AU?
and hi @Takkat :)

yeah - in AU. I did not even remember I wrote that.

Seems like on my CD, session 2 is almost identical to session 1, except that it contains one additional folder.
Stupid staff who made it.
Took me hours.

1:41 PM
@Takkat And now you just got a badge for it too :)

@ByteCommander Look for other personnel then
@terdon Lol & thanks.
Those badges always come in as a big surprise.

Friggin wifi keeps disconnecting as well

which badge it was? and the q link?

Speaking of badges, I just realized I have the gold badge.

1:43 PM
@Takkat Not my staff :)

Only two, so far.

@ByteCommander other people always haev poor staff... :P
@Anwar Rescent badges will show it.

So I'm recompiling that CD now to have a proper single-session image I can burn.

@Takkat found it. thanks :)

@terdon woah congratulations!!!

1:47 PM
Now is there any Win or Ubuntu tool that allows me to easily compare directory hierarchies?

Terdon and Heemayl are our Bash magicians!

@Zanna Cheers. Mah second gold tag badge :)

askubuntu.com/help/badges?tab=tags&filter=gold only 13 gold tag badge awarded

And one of them is @Takkat's!
Nice!

@Anwar more than Illuminator
Thanks terdon.
59/500 for Illuminator acchieved... tsk

2:02 PM
hmm... no Illuminator badge yet!
Me 90/500 on that. ahead of Takkat! \o/

71/500 for me

<-- should edit & answer more

@ByteCommander You can use diff -qr $dir1 $dir2 for a very simple list of what's in one directory but no the other.

<-- should seriously learn bash

@ByteCommander Or for a strange vim compare list vimdiff <(cd $dir1; find . | sort) <(cd $dir2; find . | sort), but you'll have to quit out of 2 vim sessions.

2:10 PM
@terdon tell me it's in audio, pulse, or alsa... that's his specific wizardry

Yikes, no vim please.
But that diff was exactly what I needed, thanks
@RobotHumans Nope, virtualbox.

But I'm surprised we have an UEFI golden tag badge.

Yeah. Me too.
CLI and bash make more sense. Cli has the most, anyway

@ByteCommander Haha! I must admit, I'm more at home with nano!

2:12 PM
why would that surprise you? after that hell of question dump right when it started? people want stuff to work. not everyone wants to tinker. so, the uefi gold tag badge actually makes MORE sense objectively.

My rarest tag badge is command-line in silver.

2:14 PM
@DavidFoerster I believe Ubuntu Kylin is one of the official flavours of Ubuntu. See - wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuFlavors

@jokerdino kylin - that's the chinese localization one right?

I think so, yes.

wonders if the default search engine is baidu

@ByteCommander Looks like @RobotHumans was way ahead of you!

@Arronical and that's whilst being a space murder hobo

2:17 PM
@RobotHumans amazon :=)

@Rinzwind sheesh. you'ld think chinese localized it would be baidu or alibaba

It's actually M-x butterfly
And yes, emacs has implemented this. Well, the command anyway, I doubt it actually works :)

Q: How to properly replicate of all distro packages & python packages from an ubuntu server on AWS to an ubuntu server on DO

Andy KI'm trying to migrate all the distro and python packages I have on an AWS ubuntu server , to my newly created DO server Please find below my DO and AWS Distro's release AWS : Ubuntu 14.04.5 LTS DO : Ubuntu 16.04.1 LTS I listed all the distro and python packages I have from my AWS server, wit...

@AndyK Yes, we can see that on the site. Please don't dump your questions here as soon as you post them! If nobody seems to have seen it, you can ask but have some patience!
That said, some errors are to be expected. You're changing versions.

hi @terdon I'm impatient at <3 but I can be patient if asked ;) Please dump my question to another room if you feel so
the one I've put here mean

2:30 PM
Well, your basic problem is that you're trying to replicate the package selections on different Ubuntu versions. Next time, go for the same version, set everything up and then upgrade to the newer one.

$ imagej
Open other images in this ImageJ panel as follows:
  imagej -p 1 <image1> [<image2> ... <imageN>]

No JVM found to run ImageJ
Please apt-get install a JVM to run ImageJ or
set JAVA_HOME if it's not a JVM from a Debian Package.
What shall I do?
Do I need to set the JAVA_HOME variable?
And if so, to what?
openjdk-8-jre is installed and all alternatives are configured properly.

@jokerdino I thought that too, but then I looked on Ubuntu forums and I was confused, because I thought it used to be in the list, but now it is not. Maybe I was dreaming...

i think kylin was going for official but never got there

It is in the wiki though!

that's a knotted ball of yarn i'm not even going to begin trying to unravel

2:47 PM
> Ubuntu Kylin is an official flavour of Ubuntu. It is a free PC operating system created for China and complies with the Chinese government procurement regulations
Looks pretty official.

it does

I didnt closely follow the news about them so I wasn't sure if they were official without having to check the website and wiki.

it does make me wonder how crypto is packaged on that beast

Ok noted, kylin is official :)

@RobotHumans that was not a factual answer but a comical :=)
@Zanna it sure is :P

2:56 PM
@Rinzwind noted

and in case anyone wonders... Kylin became official on 25th April 2013.

asleep at the wheel i guess

pure windows question askubuntu.com/q/828290/61218 ?

Why did James delete this answer? askubuntu.com/a/199430/367990
I'd ping him, but he hasn't been in chat too long...

3:07 PM
Duplicate question, same answer repeated in master, etc.

Yeah, but since when do we delete answers to questions that later get closed as dupes?

@ByteCommander not talking about this james, are you?

No, our moderator James.

@ByteCommander that happens a lot of times

3:09 PM
maybe we haven't been doing lately

Really?
But why
Especially answers with notable positive scores (+9 here)

It's the same answer. Answers in duplicate questions prevent auto-redirect and merging will just have duplicate answers in master q.
Besides, deleting that answer will not lead to rep loss because of historical contribution condition.

Any post that has +3 score and has been around for 2 months when deleted will not reduce rep.

Aha. Learned something.
Thanks :)

3:12 PM
@jokerdino Thanks. I deleted my comment and retracted my vote.

@DavidFoerster Thank you.
@ByteCommander Because of these reasons, it's all right to delete it.

Okay, I understand.

Thanks for understanding.

I'd still personally prefer to leave them around or merge, but I can understand and respect your reasons :)

A lot of answers saying the same thing?

3:30 PM
gah dammit firefox

@ByteCommander it fixes redirects

@jokerdino that's good to know :)

4:13 PM
@Anwar Now that I finally got ImageJ to work, it seems like my data is incompatible with it and I installed it in vain... :(
Although it should be DICOM, it does not open.

have no idea of it. I installed the latest build suggested and the application opened.

Yeah, the app works, but it does not open the files from my CD.
It says they're an incompatible format.
"Unable to decode DICOM header"

Was it supposed to open those files?

Yeah, that's what it is meant to do.
Maybe my files are somehow compressed or whatever.
Reading your link...

no solution on that link

4:22 PM
Just noticed that too.

Q: key_load_public: No such file or directory while connecting to ssh

senapsI have a Windows 10 PC that i want to connect to and use it's Internet connection. so i have installed openssh and have it running. when i use ssh @ i get an error: ssh_exchange_identification: read: Connection reset by peer and if i use ssh -v @ i get this log: ~:$ ssh -v senaps@192.168.1....

@Anwar Ha, I found out how to use it.
I may not click "Open" and select the DICOMDIR file, but I need to click "Import > Image Sequence..." and select one of the numbered files inside the DICOM directory...
They could improve their applications user-friendliness a bit... :p
Now I can look at my insides... o.O

I bet it's dark

Yup.
Mostly black and white with some grey in between.

One of the pixels on my screen appears to be broken because it either annoyingly reflects light and distracts me or it is just a dark grey. The safety manual for my laptop says that the screen has liquid in it which is corrosive (probably LCD, I don't remember though, it was a while ago I read the manual and I'm not sure where it is now). Is this of any danger? Or is the light just dead?

@ByteCommander: It's available in the official repositories now. :)

6:32 PM
@ParanoidPanda isn't that pretty fast

user136984
@edwinksl: Well, it did have a major security update in it.

@ParanoidPanda Ah, nice. I'm on 50 already, but when I checked a few hours ago, it wasn't there yet.
Downgrading again, I believe FF 50 does not receive new questions from SE well.
Can anyone understand what he means? If not, close as unclear, please: askubuntu.com/q/828324/367990
Yikes!
Undeletable files on my Desktop!

@ByteCommander it appears steeldriver knows what's going on

Ah, I see.
@Zacharee1 I want to do a Desktop purge.

@ByteCommander: Maybe you should file a bug report somewhere.

6:49 PM
I have no idea why it worked.
But I still have a bunch of those files left.
I want to know why I could not delete them as myself.

seems like an AU question

What other attributes etc are there?

@ByteCommander extracting the ISO probably just messed the permissions up

No strange ACLs either.

@ByteCommander so how on earth did you remove write permission from your Desktop ?

No idea.

@ByteCommander yeah... lol

Probably file-roller changed that?

@ByteCommander test it again. If that's the case, I'd call this a serious bug in file-roller

7:43 PM
okay
@Serg YES!
It was file-roller!

File the bug report

Has anyone else problems with Firefox on Ask Ubuntu?
I don't get those real-time updates any more.

@ByteCommander what exactly is the problem ?

I don't see inbox or rep notifications or new questions until I reload the page.
I also don't see appearing comments or answers any more.

No problem for me with that

@ByteCommander leave a comment on one of my questions or answers for a test plz

It works fine in Chromium, but it stopped working in Firefox for some reason.

8:20 PM
I'm on firefox 48 though
Are you on newest one ?

Yesterday it was still alright.

49 ?

Yes, 49.
50 from firefox-next PPA had the same issue.

That could be the thing . . .

Downgrading to 45 from main to test...

8:23 PM
Ain't no-one left me a comment yet ?

@Serg Just left you one.
Can you leave one for me now, please?

Got it
@ByteCommander just left one
Pinged back with the response on the same comment

Nope.

:\

Although I downgraded to 45 from main, I don't get it until I F5...
Up to 49 again before continuing to troubleshoot...

8:28 PM
@ByteCommander maybe tweak your auto-refresh settings ?

someone ping me please

@Seth ping pong

user136984
@Seth Ping!

user136984
@Serg: Oh! You beat me to it! :P

hm, neat.

8:28 PM
@Serg How?
ANd it should not be auto-refresh but a websocket thing.

Chromium redid tab notifications. I think I can actually tell normal chatter apart from pings now just by looking at it!

Did anything change regarding to how SE updates the site (new questions, answers, comments, inbox/rep notifications) server-side?
@Seth Do you know that?
Or do you know where I could find it out?

@ByteCommander yes

you could find out on meta, or maybe twitter if you're lucky and know who to ping.

@ByteCommander

Q: mouse stops working after suspend resume xubuntu

Windows 3.1In Xubuntu 16.04, after resuming for suspend, my pointer completely disappears. I can still use it though but I can not see where it is. What can I do to fix the problem?

^ that

Everything on default for me.
Someone leave me a comment again, please?

8:37 PM
@Seth I thought you were a moderator. Why did you troll my question?

That one came through in the virgin profile.
So it must be one of my settings or add-ons... :(

How much you wanna bet it's javascript-related ?

@Windows3.1 Why did you troll my site?

I didn't troll your site

nah, but in all seriousness, moderators are people too. Just like we don't delete all the funny comments doesn't mean we don't occasionally leave one ;)

8:38 PM
@Seth I dont mind funny coments
*comments

@ByteCommander no repro on my firefox 50... i can see new questions

that's not the impression I get from your replies.

@Seth but when it's a question and you downplay it with that it's different :)

Yeah, must be an addon or a setting :(

8:39 PM
@Seth it all just depends on how they are used
and where

heh

@edwinksl suckass UEFI

Can someone please leave me a comment here to test?

done

\o/
THANKS
I found it out.

8:41 PM
what caused it?

HTTPS Everywhere

@Seth what annoys me MOST though is I want to do something and dont know how and ask, then I am told by some idiot that he doesnt recommend me to do what I want to do. It's like answer my question or say nothing!! lol

I think that's worth a bug report on Meta.

that thing also eats tons of RAM...

@Seth at least you didnt do too far

8:41 PM
@edwinksl I have 12GB, so that's not my problem...

user136984
You should all update now, a major security update for OpenSSL has just been released in the repositories.

@ByteCommander ;)

Sometimes that "idiot" knows a thing or two you don't that is very important.
I've seen plenty of cases where the question asker wants to do something dangerous or stupid, but gets mad when someone tries to explain it to them. Not saying that is your case at all, but it is a good idea to have more patience when someone doesn't think you should do what you're doing.

@Windows3.1 I would refrain from calling anyone idiot. Doing that instantly detracts attention from the actual topic being discussed.

but I see where you're coming from.

8:43 PM
@ParanoidPanda I only got updates for libsmbclient libwbclient0 samba-libs ubuntu-drivers-common

@ParanoidPanda nice okay i just saw them

@Seth for example I asked when metrolux ENG version will be released and everyone's like 'W8 STYLE MENU SUCKS MAN'

@ByteCommander libssl-dev libssl-doc libssl1.0.0 openssl here :p

or I ask about a Windows ME driver and they're like "USE WINDOWS 98"

when did you ask about a Windows ME driver?! o_O

8:44 PM
Probably my mirror is a few hours behind...

or worse yet 'USE WINDOWS 10' lol
@Seth not here
winworldpc

and i need to reboot. reminds me of windows :/

their forums
gah lol

My solution is simple: don't use windows. end of story

@Seth or I ask where to find a driver for an paralell to ethernet adapter and they're like 'GET AN OLD MODEM'
for win 3.1
DOS 6 really
I run 3.1 on DOS 6
would have to upgrade to 3.11 in that case tho lol

8:46 PM
@ByteCommander @Serg remember to delete the test comments

@edwinksl test

@edwinksl oh, yes. Thanks :)

Hello world
:P

I'm supposed to get some homework done, but i have no energy for it today

Stupid VLC has managed to create a video with desync'd audio and video ಠ_ಠ
I can pass offsets to ffmpeg and remux the file but the delay varies throughout the file.

8:51 PM
@NathanOsman: For some reason if I put the quality high on YouTube it tends to do that after a little bit.

user136984
But it doesn't always happen.

user136984
Which makes it stranger.

user136984
Loved George's latest video by the way! :D

Coming soon on Nathan's github : SmartVLC, a fork of VLC that doesn't produce out of synch audio and video

user136984
He's got one big belly!

8:51 PM
I wonder if I played the whole thing through...

user136984
Are you ever going to get that jumper to cover it properly?

He needs a new suit.
Heh - I kinda wish that was my full-time job.
But George doesn't have enough subscribers to make that viable.

@ParanoidPanda What is the new fixed openssl version?

user136984
@ByteCommander: 1.0.2g-1ubuntu4.4

Hmm.... Still on ...ubuntu4.4
The in-site updates (new questions, answers, comments, inbox/rep notifications) are realized using websockets, right?
