You'd think muxing in audio would be simple enough.

Q: How many port adapters, and which ones can be stacked up and actually work?

WesSomeone posted this pic on twitter today: That won't work, right? Why, exactly? And, specifically, at which point the stack of adapters stops working?

^--- did someone paste that picture earlier?

Anybody wanna give me feedback on my powerpoint presentation about SSH ?

Sure!

OK, one hot powerpoint , coming right up
This is for my Data Communication class

Looking at...

found a spelling mistake , yup

6:06 AM
Slide 5 has "edetailed".
I think there's an extra "e" there.

no, it's mor edetailed , i inserted space into wrong part

Oh, oops.
Anyway, I finished reading through it.
That's excellent.
A very balanced and well thought-out presentation

@Serg commented in dropbox

Oh, you can do that?
Now I need your opinion on this:
Just uploaded it.
Does it look professional? :P

Well well, that's nice to know dropbox now allows comments

Lol.

the abrupt ending though
i was expecting some epic battle

OK, i'm gonna remove libre office. That application got worse in 16.04
It completely messed up my presentation bullet points and lagged out

I2Pi2p.stackexchange.com

Beta Q&A site for the Invisible Internet Project (I2P) - a decentralized, anonymous overlay network

Currently in private beta.

@Anwar how does that work ^^
don't they just create and delete the symlink like systemctl ?

12 users
@Zanna IIRC, yeah.
Apache will enable mods by loading the symlink into the proper location, and then reloading Apache.

my answer is right then I think

or i think it used to. It might automatically edit configs and whatnot now, but i don't think it changed.
whenever i need to disable an nginx config, i just delete it lol
or i break the link in sites-available (name it site.conf.disabled or similar)

6:32 AM
yeah

Oooh. This one burns.

i would post one of my 10/10s, but there are young pencils in this chat.
and i'd rather not have every 10k descend upon this room.

post it for 10 seconds and then delete it quickly

mods can still see deleted posts.

Young Pencils?!?

Q: Landlord is watching my data traffic.

Olba12I am moving to a new place, and in the contract I signed I had to accept that all my data traffic can/will be checked by the apartment owner. Since I really needed this apartment I was forced to accept this. But not anywhere does the contract says that I can not make it difficult for the landlord...

omfg.

6:35 AM
WHAT THE...

/facepalm

this breaks.... every law.
i'd personally sign that contract just to say "screw you, try and get it" to the landlord...

@Serg indeed!

He should be good with a VPN or ensuring HTTPS everywhere.
And yes, 100% yes, use your own router behind it.

i still wouldn't use HTTPS Everywhere in this case only.
It doesn't catch everything, especially the sites the landlord is probably looking for.

6:38 AM
Our ISP supplied us with a router - do you think I am using it for the LAN? NopeNopeNopeNopeNope.
I have my own router connected to it, set as a DMZ.

T-Mo was nice enough to give us a very nice router when we signed up. Flashed that puppy, it's my primary.
on that note, the router my ISP gave me (WISP endpoint) is inaccessible and has the stupidest setup.

@KazWolfe Just like my router is Possesed.

it's a shame my WISP isn't hiring.
I could fix their entire network in a weekend, but no.
they'd rather assign three IPs to every person. Two for management (globally accessible, i may add), one for their router.

A: Landlord is watching my data traffic.

UTF-8General Make sure obfuscating and encrypting your internet traffic isn't illegal where you live. HTTPS This is not a solution. Not only because you will have to access websites which aren't secured via SSL but also because your landlord can still see which servers you're connecting to even whe...

I appreciate the intent of that answer...
...but installing OpenVPN is not that simple.
No, not by a long shot.

especially those laws

6:41 AM
eh, ymmv.

@NathanOsman strongly agreed

i've found it pretty simple for a client but...
then again, i can probably set up a vpn server half asleep. On StrongSwan.

Lol.

Seriously, screw StrongSwan.
See kids? This is why you have a VPN running on port 80 at all times. Can't be (easily) blocked.
and/or port 53

@Anwar I'm confused!
what do you mean "for each directory"? the function will full paths won't work for any other directory...
am I being super stupid?

@Edity You have no sense of humor :P

@Zanna can i help ?

6:59 AM
maybe... I don't see why Anwar made this revision when I already mention that you have to create the directory askubuntu.com/posts/823865/revisions

@NathanOsman I'm a pencil. duh.

@Edity And I'm a wolf. Hi!

maybe just to emphasise that it will otherwise not work, fair enough, but I don't understand "for each directory since it will only work on that directory

I WILL DRAWMINATE YOU

@Edity yeah i suck at art

7:01 AM
;p

no really. I am terrible.
well... i should say picture art.

O_O

I am one hell of a code artist.

I WILL PAINT THE WORLD WITH BINARY
MUHAHAAHAHAH

my art skills peaked when i was six years old.

7:02 AM
I have an artist friend who can make amazing ASCII art

yay for having the art skills of a wet spoon.
which explains why my profile picture still hasn't been replaced.

Oh, always thought it was caching.

@Zanna there, done.

Its always caching

@JourneymanGeek no. i just don't have a profile picture to top that one.

7:07 AM
Lies.
Caching.
;p

@Zanna by the way, commas are unnecessary there
linkoff() { mv "$1" off ; }

nope, same image on parent page lol

that caches too

if you purge my cache you'll see it's up to date.'
okay here. i'm gonna prove the image is not cached and it's current.
Give me a GUID. Any GUID.

sigh
I was messing with ya ;p

so... chat is boring. Everyone post your system hostnames and why you chose them!

eagle , because I was into giving hosts on my local network bird names
don't do that anymore

@KazWolfe nathan-desktop because... please don't tell me you're wondering why I chose that one...

hm. current box is BlackHawk because [adjective] [animal] for laptops/desktops, [adjective/animal]storm for mobile. Servers are [noun][fire/ice]. yay complicated naming

7:10 AM
lol. Athena, Phobe, Nyx and theia are active
artemis is spare

My laptop is... wait for it... nathan-laptop.
@KazWolfe did that cure your boredom?

@NathanOsman sure :D
always interesting to see hostnames.

I got a better idea.

yeah, I mix greek and roman goddesses

Everyone tell me your favorite programming language and why it is C++.
:D

7:12 AM
I also used to have a juno and a cloacacina...

@NathanOsman Java because fast and efficient. And cross-platform!

@KazWolfe if you're bored, help me do my networking homework p

@KazWolfe same

I'm watching b5

@Serg what is?

7:13 AM
@KazWolfe Erm... not a fan of Oracle.

@Zanna I think @Serg understood what I wanted. I'm on a mobile and can't write much.

@NathanOsman oracle sucks but their projects are great.

MySQL is an abomination.

is

@NathanOsman Python , because versatility. C is second favorite because low-level and works on embedded devices, and Linux :D . Least favorite, Java. Because Gurka

7:14 AM
it was pretty good before oracle screwed it up

@KazWolfe # R9: Dial-up modems ,HFC,DSL, and FTTH are all used for residential access. For each of these access technologies, provide a range of transmission rates and comment on whether the transmission rate is shared or dedicated.
I figured out data rates, i need to know if they're shared or dedicated
:D Ain't that fun ?

@KazWolfe No it wasn't. You were always stuck choosing between MyISAM (no transactions) and InnoDB (no fulltext search).
You shouldn't have to make that decision.

define "dedicated" in this case
Up to what point?

Honestly , ive no clue. I'm flipping through book right now in search of that stuff

I'll assume to the PoP?
Dedicated: FTTH
Shared: HFC, DSL, ISDN
Or, I think.
Only FTTH ensures that connections are one-to-one between the home and the PoP.
Though ISDN may be considered dedicated based on the setup. ie, is it 1:1 to the PoP, or is there some form of (heavy) trunking?

7:20 AM
yup , HFC is shared ( because coaxial) , but i cannot find about the other

correction. DSL is dedicated to the PoP.

I'll go with your answer

hang on it's not right lol

@Serg commas?
@Anwar thanks for helping <3

If I'm understanding correctly:

DSL: Dedicated to PoP (One phone line = One connection)
FTTH: Dedicated to PoP (One fiber line = One connection)
HFC: Shared (One coax line = Many connections, think NAT)
ISDN: Unsure, probably Dedicated to PoP (One phone = One connection)
Though do note that ISDN can have trunking set up, which makes things weird. But because of how PSTN works, you can't have more than one line on one port.

7:24 AM
I wish books had Ctrl+F button

you can tell if something is dedicated or not by looking at peak usage times. If the internet speed drops at peak usage, it's shared.
(Well, looking at speeds to the PoP, not exterior services, because after the PoP, every connection is shared)

@Serg thank you for your help too, while I was in the shower I had the idea of revising to express more or less what you did. Thanks again @Anwar also

nevermind i'm an idiot.

@KazWolfe is there another definition of shared and dedicated ?

Not really.

7:27 AM
Anybody has the stress relief paper ? I need to quickly regret doing homework at 1:27 AM

keep asking and i'll keep trying to help.
I never did bother learning the words for any of the network concepts though, lol.
I just know how they work.

@Zanna #showerthoughts

@edwinksl I have most of my best ideas in the shower or while dropping off to sleep

same

@Zanna and then i promptly forget them

Mkay, smoke break . . .
I don't know if i should regret my weekend or let this one slide

/home/jo/.local/share/zeitgeist ... why do I have a zeitgeist hidden folder lol

@Jodamo117 because it's a standard folder or storing shared data by a lot of daemons/softwares

@Serg haha thanks Serg, thought it was a funny name

@Serg what happened? sorry I missed the meeting...

7:45 AM
@Zanna oh, I'm just doing homework.....late..... it's 1:45 am

ugh >_<

were you working on your AU stuff instead?

@Zanna yes actually XD
well, not AU
but another indicator

Matthew James is weird!

7:46 AM
ppl be liking my indicator :D

well, I consider that AU loosely speaking
Yeah coz it rocks

I made a UTC clock for Seth today. Actually could not make it work for hours , even though code took like 15 minutes to write. So i rewrote it from scratch and Viola , it worked

I just noticed that me and @Zanna started 5 months ago

I think i can let two other homeworks slide. I can do one between classes and the other tomorrow, it's late anyway. But i gotta finish this one i am working on right now

@Edity pretty sure i have one of the oldest accounts in this chat

Aloha!

@edwinksl I swear it does nothing! - thanks for finding out for me... I guess it took me 3 months to get 2k

8:17 AM
@Zanna that's not too bad. i took 5 years 4 months to get, uhh, 3.9k

@edwinksl where can i see the answer rate for myself ?

but you weren't active for most of that time? You got most of your rep in the last 3 months or so no?
@edwinksl what does this mean?

@Zanna that's AU's answer rate back when the screencast was made
we are now at 65%

oh I see!

8:19 AM
well we're working on it ^_^

oooh, that's what you meant

@Zanna yeah i was mostly lurking in SO back then

our answered rate is worse than SO
in fact it's the worst I can find with a few clicks...

@Zanna android is atrocious

ahh
yeah I have a question there, tumbleweed

8:21 AM
so is cross-validated but for CV, they do ask hard academic questions often, so i can see why the answer rate is low

Do we suffer from drive by questions? New users get an answer that works and just disappear maybe. SO seems to be home to more programmers etc. who are likely to stick around.

We have a lot of beginners questions from people who just wanted to try out Ubuntu but found it is not for them.

@Takkat lol

Would be nice if you told me WHAT KIND OF PLUGIN

8:34 AM
java I guess

i've enabled, everythin : java , javascript, flash - ain't working
