9:00 PM
friendly reminder, @ParanoidPanda. He served his time and his suspension. His slate is clean.
So just drop whatever grudges exist -- both of you, and just live out in peace.
it doesn't matter.

user136984
I will if he will.

user136984
It's been a long time.

no, you will regardless. Unless something happens, there's no reason to push it.
IF, not when, he does something, you're allowed to be/act mad. Until then, clean slate.

user136984
Perhaps we should change the topic?

That's a good idea.
Anyone else still use apt-get instead of apt just because of muscle memory?
9

user136984
9:02 PM
Doesn't it still have less commands?

@ParanoidPanda i don't think so

I saw a question a few minutes ago and thought the guy made a typo when he wrote just apt

16.04 already guys, make apt great again

> "The company recognizes that in order to apply for export licenses (as opposed to reexport authorizations, notifications or classification requests), the company must be in of the United States."
Wait, what?

apt is better i think, but i can never use it because i instinctively type apt-get

9:05 PM
I'm hungry, gonna go make some food
@KazWolfe isn't apt-get just an alias now? or they are different apps?

user136984
@KazWolfe: Well, as far as I can tell it doesn't have the build-dep option nor does it give you the ability to access the changelog.

┌─[✗]─[14:06:00]─[kazwolfe@BlackFire]
└──> AwooBot $ apt build-dep
E: Must specify at least one package to check builddeps for
┌─[✗]─[14:06:52]─[kazwolfe@BlackFire]
└──> AwooBot $ apt changelog nautilus
Get:1 changelogs.ubuntu.com nautilus 1:3.18.4.is.3.14.3-0ubuntu4 Changelog [83.4 kB]

my dirty mind just misread title of the question "Port is not open"
oh boy

@Serg do i want to know how

you could guess probably

9:08 PM
i actually can't atm
Really.
@NathanOsman

user136984
I deleted it by the way, for anyone who wondered.

@wolfboyft friendly reminder that repeated offences cost you longer suspension. i don't think you guys wanna waste another year. now get over it and be zen as funk

Repeat offenses get your account banned for life.

never thought chat room would be so entertaining

And if you two don't just stop right now, I have no problem pinging every mod on StackExchange to deal with this. Which may result in more than one account being banned.

user136984
9:14 PM
@KazWolfe: There is no call for that, I'm the one being targeted here. It's not like he's come back and been perfectly lovely and I've just brought this up for no reason. My inbox is being spammed with hate mail right now, I don't want to be told here that I'm going to be suspended for even mentioning the fact.

@KazWolfe Which room?

user136984
I'm very happy to leave this right now, but I'd also love him to leave it too.

This room.

Where?

user136984
Nothing more can be done on this site here for this matter so I'll leave it, but I'd love him to stop too.

9:14 PM
@NathanOsman Deleted message, supposedly.
E-mails to Paranoid.

I don't see any deleted messages...

scroll up

Other than the one Panda posted.

that's the one i pinged you about

but his profile reads "This user has been temporarily suspended by a moderator and cannot chat for 364 days."

9:15 PM
Ah.

If there is actually hatemail... that warrants SE employee involvement

user136984
I've got 5 emails now, I better not get any more...

@KazWolfe No it doesn't. That warrants the police perhaps.
I don't see what SE can do about email.

If you get any more, feel free to Pastebin them. They're good evidence if needed.

If it does continue, let me know. I can take it up with a community manager if need be.

user136984
9:19 PM
I don't want to open them but it's clear from the previews what's in them:

user136984

user136984
@NathanOsman @KazWolfe: ^^

I saw it.
I am not amused.

user136984
I don't have any plans of opening them, but I'll keep them for evidence.

Sounds like a kid in his parents' basement with too much time on his hands.
@ParanoidPanda Good thinking.

user136984
9:21 PM
I am sure that there is something in UK law about this sort of thing.

user136984
Oh, just received another one!

@wolfboyft We gave you a chance.
It's your own fault you ruined it.

user136984

i wish the accused can actually speak so we can see how he justifies all these moronic actions

user136984
I'm starting to get a real collection here now.

user136984
9:24 PM
That's 7 now.

I'm talking to SE staff now.
Doesn't seem like there's much that they can do off site.

user136984
Well, the most they could probably do is give him a complete ban as they will now be able to see what he's all about. But I don't know, they might not want to do that for what happens off site mostly (or at least in this instance).

He's going to get deleted, at least. I'm fairly sure of that.

user136984
I hope he does.

@ParanoidPanda Get law enforcement on this. It's unacceptable.

9:26 PM
^ that

He's basically just short of knocking on your door now.

And consider getting his email onto blacklist so that he doesn't spam you anymore

user136984
Yes, I am seriously considering that option now.

And if he does... Does the UK have Stand Your Ground laws?

I think everything that can be done has been done.
The best thing going forward is to ignore him.
If he makes more threats or anything, I'd take it to the police.
But hang on to the evidence.

9:28 PM
Forward his emails into a folder and just ignore them

user136984
I really can't cope with this...

If you see that number rise, contact police.

user136984
I will.

@ParanoidPanda Just forget about him. He has too much time on his hands and nothing better to do.
You, on the other hand, have much better things to do than worry about this.
Don't let it get to you.

> It's off site so I can't be penalized
I think I just got sick.

9:30 PM
@ParanoidPanda and if police doesn't do anything, consider hiring a hacker over the interwebs to mess up his accounts and maybe ddos his router ;)

@Serg Don't do this, @ParanoidPanda

@Serg Er, maybe let's not recommend that...

Friendly reminder that the justice system HATES jokes

@ParanoidPanda one of the people I talked to asked me to pass this along: support.google.com/mail/answer/8151?hl=en

Of course not a good solution , just as a last resort

user136984
9:31 PM
@KazWolfe: Seems there are multiple links in there as I can see the start of another at the end of the preview, any idea what they are? Or you just commenting on what he said?

@ParanoidPanda Commenting on Serg.

If you want some analysis, feel free to forward the emails to nathan@quickmediasolutions.com.

i wouldn't block it if you want to collect evidence

I can open them in a secure environment.

that said, he is probably not that dumb to keep providing you with so much incriminating evidence

9:33 PM
i don't think they have malware, @NathanOsman

@ParanoidPanda don't you have vm ?

@KazWolfe Then why is Panda hesitant to open them?
But good point.

If he's doing what he, well, is doing, he's probably too dumb to embed malware.

If it's Gmail we're talking about, I'm sure they scan the emails.

user136984
@Serg: I do, but I don't tend to log into my personal accounts there. Maybe I should have a look though.

user136984
9:33 PM
I'm worried they'll be laced with malware.

I think he just doesn't want to read the e-mails because they're useless and mean and whatnot

That's a good reason.

user136984
Plus, hate mail seems to affect me badly as I can tell what just reading the previews...

You can also shoot them over to root+analysis-4f3bb8573@kazwolfe.io if you want four eyes on it

9:36 PM
hey Aaron

user136984
I can't forward emails without opening them, that's the only problem...

plus i collect malware so if there is any there :D

user136984
I'll maybe have a look in a VM tomorrow.

that... is true.

Good idea.
@KazWolfe Lol.

user136984
9:37 PM
Even if there isn't any malware, I'm really not in the mood to look at this stuff.

I may or may not do the same thing:
:D

4 TB drive, encrypted :D

Dang . . . . I need to catch up with you people

@Serg It's a bit of a dangerous hobby, so don't feel like you're missing out on anything.

@NathanOsman not on linux ᕕ( ᐛ )ᕗ

9:39 PM
@KazWolfe You're joking right?
Linux is not immune to malware.

@NathanOsman i mostly have windows samples.
maybe a couple Mac. Nothing Linux.

That's all I have.

yeah, i know linux isn't immune. I'm very careful. Only work with a LiveDVD, etc.

Good old virtual machines.

@NathanOsman Oh, I am well aware of that , but what hobby isn't dangerous ? Plus I am supposed to be an engineer or something , so i need to practice my reverse-engineering skilz

9:41 PM
@Serg stamp collecting

@Serg I don't have any reverse-engineering skills either, so when you learn, please teach me :D

@Serg [REDACTED: personally compromising]
@Serg model trains

@KazWolfe if it's a rare and expensive stamp , one probably could get killed. Same with model trains
Personally, I would love to start collecting fingerboxes

Side hobbies: I am teaching myself to play the piano, I am getting into electrical wiring, and I enjoy taking things apart.

wait no [REDACTED: personally compromising] is very dangerous.
nevermind ^~^

user136984
9:43 PM
Does anyone know how to make things go straight into a "folder" in Gmail? I am not sure they have the feature...

they go

Hello, can someone help me with a kernel module question?

@Zephyr We can try.

@Nath

9:44 PM
you can even auto-forward new crap to us

@Nathan Osman, there's a memory address that I want to access, but my kernel module kills itself if I try reading from there
but I thought that doing something in kernel space from a module would let me access physical memory

Do I need to do something to grant access to look at memory?

he means automatic filtering

@ParanoidPanda

9:46 PM
@Zephyr Where is this memory allocated? In the kernel or in userspace?

@ParanoidPanda click on the More button. There's an option for filtering

Where are you getting the memory address from?

@Nathan Osman There's supposed to be a DMA peripheral, mapped to 0x43C00000. If I understand correctly, then if I write to that location, the peripheral should be able to see what I wrote there
So I just know the address, and would be manually assigning a pointer to that

Hmm... I'm not sure, the amount of kernel programming I've done is quite limited. I've only ever written a USB driver.
You might be able to get an answer asking on the site or asking on unix.stackexchange.com

Is there a chat for Unix? I tried making a post there, but nobody answered it.

9:49 PM
Yeah, their chat room doesn't have a lot of users.
Asking a question is your best bet.

All I tried doing was making a pointer, int * addr, and then assigning it, addr = 0x43C00000, and then printing with something like printk(KERN_INFO "%d\n",*addr)
but that isnt allowed I guess

user136984
@Serg: Ok, I've managed to move his current emails to a folder...

and I dont know what I should be doing instead

user136984
Thanks :)

user136984
It wasn't very nice to see them there the whole time.

9:51 PM
but yeah @ParanoidPanda, set up a filter to forward it to Nathan and optionally me, and move it to the folder.

user136984
Anyway, I am going to go and listen to some nice calming music now and hope he doesn’t return, at least not tonight.

user136984
Ok, I'd prefer to deal with all that tomorrow though, I need a break.

no worries ^^

user136984
I did not expect things to go this badly.

Meanwhile. . . . i'm gonna go read my letters . . .

9:54 PM
@Zephyr I'm not sure how DMA works, you may need to use a special kernel function to read the memory.
It sounds like you may need to apply a constant offset to the pointer.

@Zacharee1 wow, like the random lightbulb in the power supply...

@Mateo That one was quite humorous.
Soldering the CPU is also pretty high on the "wha..." list.

user136984
10:11 PM
On a more positive note, Wood pigeons are taking over the world! :D

user136984

user136984
Not too sure why there's a picture of one there, but anyway... :D

Sen. Jeff Sessions officially nominates Donald Trump at Republican convention; roll call vote to begin http://www.breakingnews.com/t/RYZ
Quuuuuuuuuick.
Before it's too late to change your mind.

Does anyone else face DNS resolution issue in web browser ?

10:25 PM
> "Please allow up to five business days to process your SNAP-R registration."
Thanks, US Department of Commerce.

10:38 PM
5 business days isn't too bad for a govt thing

@CodeX your isp is messing up probably

@Serg I wish .. but it has something to do with ubuntu .. I tried so many things

friends don't let friends delete power buttons askubuntu.com/questions/800651/…

including using google dns

my Question button has been acting up on mobile whole day

10:41 PM
it got auto fixed when I last installed Ubuntu .. but after yesterday's upgrade the problem came back

it was completely text-less in the morning

you will soon need to charge your phone

i know. i keep unplugging it

you are +6 GMT
which could mean you are from one of these countries Bangladesh, Bhutan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Sri Lanka
xD good night

kek , not even close

10:46 PM
only if the time of screenshot is not correct

user136984
Right, well, my Japanese classes are doing really well, I am now able to order food in my local-ish Japanese café! :)

user136984
And I got 100% in the end of term test.

user136984
So that's going well.

Oh good, my SNAP-R account is up.

@ParanoidPanda you tried JLPT yet?

10:52 PM
Now I can file for an export license application.

for exporting nitroshare?

Yes :P

nitroshare invasion from our northern neighbor arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgh

user136984
@edwinksl: I'll look into that at some point. :)

user136984
God, every time I see a new email come in I get this really bad feeling, but so far no more from him... Anyway, hopefully tomorrow will be better and I won't come back to 3k spam emails in my inbox!

user136984
11:01 PM
Goodnight! :)

Goodnight.
The only consolation for this legal paperwork is that it only needs to be done once.

11:29 PM
I have to write a 100-word essay about my "company".
Why can't voting be this hard... ?

if we had to justify our votes I can't imagine the ammount of weird stuff we would read when counting votes

@ParanoidPanda went that badly?

11:47 PM
@IanC Not to justify, but to prove the competency of the voter.
I bet most Trump supporters couldn't even tell you what the three branches of government are :D
Just think of how much better the US would be if the people who could vote had to demonstrate a basic sixth-grade understanding of federal politics.

this applies in my country too
lots of people don't know how to vote

so i tried to tape decorative hooks to my laptop to make a custom laptop raiser. problem is that the laptop screen is too heavy and tips over on the hooks :/ good idea but doesn't workout as planned

Well, let's hope Apple accepts this.

\o/
I feel like a spy now.

applauds virtually

man, I tried answering a question on chemmistry stack exchange

11:54 PM
You think that's bad, you should see Math Overflow...

but the person who asked doesn't seem to know enough to understand the answer
now I'm having to answer other questions unrelated haha

Q: Algebraic proof of Five-Color Theorem using chromatic polynomials by Birkhoff and Lewis in 1946

user19906I'm guessing everyone is familiar with Four Color Theorem which was proved by Appel and Haken using computers. A weaker version of this theorem is Five Color Theorem which states that a planar graph is 5-colorable. It's rather simple to prove Five Color Theorem in a standard mathematical approach...

"I'm guessing everyone is familiar with Four Color Theorem ..."
I MEAN, WHO ISNT?

Actually, I am familiar with it.

i mean it is math overflow

11:56 PM
But that's the only thing on the page I know.

it is reasonable to expect that

MathOverflow is a question and answer site for professional mathematicians.
note the word professional
@IanC i saw the answer you gave. you should get OP to go into chat with you since OP obviously needs way more help
or you could give up
