@cl-netbox IS A PERFECT EXAMPLE

@NathanOsman just pointing it out

@Edity I've dissected the Mac OS
it's not Linux

a convoluted UNIX

@NathanOsman and the OPO 3 is 16.2MP?

12:00 AM
unix!

@ThomasW. shares a filesystem and shell, and that's about it ;P

and convoluted because it's crippled

file structure sorry

eehh
@Zacharee1 Not really

@NathanOsman This is either a very bad photoshop, or a really monstrous cat

12:01 AM
doesn't comply to FHS

unix is linux. linux is life.

@Zacharee1 16 MP, I think.

@ThomasW. it has /var and /bin and stuff
@NathanOsman this photo says 16.2

Whatever. They rounded it.

@Zacharee1 not /home, and not a few of the others to be fully standard
it's convluted too because it's not open source :p

12:02 AM
And now with El Capitan, even root can't get at some files.
Don't ask me how this is possible.

well im off to bed ;) have a nice one folks

@NathanOsman gimme another image. Something with more color
@NathanOsman why even
@Videonauth SLEEP

steam os is debian.

@Zacharee1 will do and tomorrow youll get a mail tho

@Zacharee1 sure, lemme find a nice one.

12:04 AM
@Videonauth uh oh :p

Do you mind if it's from my Nexus 6?

idc
I just need raw

debian is linux. linux is confusing.

Checking...
I found one!

hoorah

12:08 AM
photoshop

@Zacharee1 I found one from my Phantom 3 (it shoots RAW too) and it's awesome.
Uploading...

Phantom 3?

oh
hmm

a drone

12:09 AM
And this time I'll just share the whole folder on DropBox and throw a few more in for you to play with.

kk

im..tired...*zzz* falls asleep

finally
so @NathanOsman, apparently your OPO has an infinitely large aperture: ƒ/0.0

Lol.
Folder is shared.
I am uploading mini-JPGs with the same filenames so you get an idea of what the images look like before downloading them.

12:15 AM
kk
@JourneymanGeek what

Nuffin

vv

welp

^lmao

DEAD IMAGE IS DEAD

12:17 AM
have a painting

@Zacharee1 looks like HDR abuse

apparently Imgur uses different IDs for the image page and actual image now
@JourneymanGeek Saturation --> +100

O_o
Dat noise tho.

ikr

I have another mountain shot - this time from the Rocky Mountains...
AFK for about 20-30 minutes. More files are uploading...

12:23 AM

where is this?

dunno
wat
ah

12:46 AM
Whoa...
@IanC Calgary, Alberta, Canada.

, North America, Earth, Solar System, Milky Way, Universe

nice, Canada is a country I'd like to visit someday, heard only good things from there

and they also have Trudeau
Everyone loves Trudeau :p

Ick.
I don't.

why

12:48 AM
He's a crazy arrogant liberal.
That's why.

how so
gimme examplez

For one thing, he's running a tremendous deficit.
The last government we had did a great job of balancing the books.

@Serg The deb only downloads the installation and uninstall scripts -- no sources. This means that we won't have to build the deb again and again for minor changes. It will build from Git each time.

Now we're going to go into further debt for who-knows-what-reason.

hmm

12:50 AM
And I'm sure you heard about the incident in Parliament where he elbowed someone, swore, and then happily apologized for it.

nope
accidentally elbowed?

Accidentally my foot.
I'm sure there are videos on YouTube.

This was the only thing I could find about deficit and debt cbc.ca/news/politics/trudeau-budget-deficit-wherry-1.3495745
I thought "smash" meant "destroy/fix"

Does anyone know what package I need in order to get an OpenCL ICD driver for my AMD CPU (not GPU)?

Q: ssh: permission denied (publickey) after restoring to a backup that was known to work at the time of backup

Spencer SmolenSo I have a few servers set up behind a bastion. I usually hop from bastion -> server A -> server B using agent forwarding. uhuu, I was able to set up a virtual network on Virtual Box! :D
now I can learn better about networks in a more safe environment

1:49 AM
Cool.
A bridged network?

internal
@NathanOsman, thought it was better to keep everything separated, since I'm a noob with networks and don't want to screw with my real interface configurations :p

so I have 2 virtual machines, both in the virtualbox intnet network, one being the default gateway and the other being just a regular host
it will be good to see protocols in practice :)

2:08 AM
@NathanOsman is this a good practice to approach installation like Bharadwaj does ?

you can download cisco packet tracer if your goal is to only networking

@CodeX, never heard of it? What is it?

I mean, if user wants, they could probably wget it themselves. i thought to make deb package for script itself

I'm looking for the website

its an emulator made by Cisco to learn networking .. mainly about routers and switches ..but there is pc too

2:12 AM
sounds like it's available only for academic use (at least on the official website)
or can anyone register as an administrator?

what does uname -r say for you guys

uname -r
4.4.0-31-generic

looks like you guys caught up

2:16 AM
This video contains content from UMG, who has blocked it in your country on copyright grounds.

@CodeX, thanks bro! I'm downloading it :D

you are welcome : ) @lanC

@edwinksl, I got an answer for my chemistry doubt!! Been trying to return the favour helping some people there too with some answers :)

2:30 AM
@IanC i think you have a typo
in your chem qn

where?

for the 2-pyridone resonance structures, the one on the left should have 4 pi electrons, not 8 as you said
still non-aromatic

@edwinksl, there are 2 for each double bond (total: 6) + 2 from the nitrogen free pair

i only see 2 double bonds

2 on the ring, and one on the oxygen

2:36 AM
the N lone pair doesn't count because it is not sp2 hybridized
as a result, the double bond to O also doesn't count
although last time i did ochem was more than 5 years ago, so all this is based on whatever i can remember ;)

@Serg where's the packaging? I missed the link.

the N lone pair is in a 2pz orbital (the 3 sp2 orbitals are the sigma bonds with carbons and the hydrogen), and it can contribute to the delocalization, so they do count. The free electron pairs on oxygen don't count because on the first case they are both on sp2 orbitals, and on the right one they are on sp3 (the oxygen suffers hybridization and becomes tetrahedrical)
@edwinksl, it is a little confusing, because the same molecule is aromatic in a resonance form, and non aromatic in another, but it's mostly because of the orbitals the electrons are in each form
it's easier to see if you draw the orbitals in a paper

nah
i believe you

haha, I'm just learning this molecular orbitals theory, to be honest college didn't really teach me much of it
which is among the things that really disappointed me with graduation courses

there is a good reason for that though
and that's because you need good understanding of physical chemistry/quantum mechanics
unfortunately in undergraduate, ochem is typically taught before pchem

2:44 AM
yawn

anyway you are right about 8, i went to count it again ;)

what did i miss

@edwinksl, indeed, but it would be good for them to give you a little more basis to understand the theory. Not going deep on the quantum physics part of it, I mean, it's such an updated and more broad view of organic chemistry

it is difficult to be honest

but maybe you're right, after all, I went for chemmical enginner, and not chemmistry

2:49 AM
i had this discussion with my classmate back then who took graduate ochem classes that explicitly stated pchem instead of ochem as a prereq
vast majority don't really need to know the MO type stuff
pushing electrons suffices in most cases
but if you would like to know more, certainly take the graduate ochem classes

yeah, I think you're right
but in other important subjects as well, I think graduation still only scratches the surface, at least around here
I believe graduation courses are better preparing there in US

meh, i think it depends

(I'm actually following this online course from Illinois college)

you sound like you might want to consider graduate school though
majority of your classmates would likely think they have had enough of college :P

yeah, most of them just wanted to start working and making some money haha
problem is, I believe there is a immense responsability in the shoulders of an enginner, being unprepared can have catastrophic results
I don't know if I'm overcriticizing college, I just seem some stuff that doesn't fit this responsability I think should come with the title. I've seem people cheating (way too often), unprepared teachers, or prepared ones that didn't care to give a good class
not saying it happens everywhere

3:00 AM
yay kies

The ubuntu forums was hacked again?

@Seth Unfortantly, yes.
They got access to ip adresses names and emails.

when will they learn not to use VBulletin...

they said "the hackers were NOT able to access passwords"

what should they use instead?

3:03 AM
coincidence? I think not.
a firewall.

@edwinksl something not so old and closed source?

i agree
@Serg o/

@Seth s/VBulletin/PHP/

@NathanOsman OK , here is basically the link to his fork of my repo github.com/bharadwaj-raju/lks-indicator . Essentially , he made a deb package , which will wget zip file of my repository , so that we don't have to rebuild the package
@Edity \o

All DEB packages should be self-contained.

3:09 AM
do I have to get gnome for debian

folks, I'll go get to bed, have to wake up in less than 6h for work :/

Using wget is only a last resort when the package cannot legally be redistributed.

good night for you all!

(Like what Ubuntu does with the Flash player.)

@IanC good afternoon.. i mean good night

3:10 AM
@NathanOsman OK , in other words , just wget'ings stuff from deb package is not acceptable. OK, I will have to reject his pull request

Well, it's up to you.

I want everything to be done properly. AFAIU that way is not appropriate

There is a special thing you can do too if wget is necessary that doesn't break tools like apt-cacher-ng, etc.

wget is not necessary , at leat IMHO. It's just one python script ( an app indicator )
@Seth do you have any opinion on this ?

yolo, deny his pull request
i test the pull request
no work in debian

3:30 AM
@Serg on what?

@Seth I'm working on an app indicator. Bharadwaj made a deb package for that, but installation script there is basically just gonna wget the zip file from my repository. Is it acceptable ? I'm leaning towards rejecting the pull request

@Serg it's a deb package that wget's the actual source?

There is tar archive included in the deb file ,though

well it is entirely up to you as the project maintainer, but that doesn't seem like how debs are supposed to work.

so I don't see the point of wgetting stuff

3:34 AM
indeed.
other than trying to always download the latest source, which screws with the deb's versioning.

Q: What is the difference between appindicator and AppIndicator3

SergUbuntu indicators written in python can be done with two APIs : appindicator and AppIndicator3. What is the difference between them and is there any advantage to using one over the other ?

If anyone knows , please enlighten this n00b ( aka me )

@Serg Probably one is Python2 and one Python3?

@ByteCommander Ubuntu documentation shows example with #!/usr/bin/env python, and in either case they use print function , not print()
So it's python 2 for both

Thanks iptables, now a f**ked up the server

Hmm... :/

@blade19899 post a question either on AU or U&L . I don't think anyone who is in chat right now knows of iptables.

@jokerdino do you have any experience with app indicators ?

not by choice, no

welp, i guess you won't be able to answer my question then

that should be a given

@Zanna I have good news for you, and sort of blah news for me. I can display indicator text in Mate using AppIndicator3 library. That's good news for you. The blah news for me is that I have to rewrite my indicator using different library :p Which shouldn't be complicated , I hope

How do you enable networking in debian 8.5. Can't ping google.com... Via the debian server

Maybe you should just get rid of debian . . . I've heard stability isn't their best attribute

@Serg Lol. I just don't have that much experience with Debian.
Must they redefine everything

Segmentation fault . . . .Welp , I bricked my indicator
Tomorrow will be a long day of fixing it

the linked page says: "I'm pretty sure the problem is along the lines of not being able to import gtk2 and gtk3 into the same process due to symbol conflicts. I think the only potential fix here would be to have "from gi.repository import Gdk" clobber sys.modules['gobject/gdk/gtk'] that when used, gives an exception which is more helpful than a segfault."

GOT DAMN YOU PYTHON3 , why do you have issue with tabs vs spaces ?
yeah, i changed my import gtk to "from gi.repository import Gtk as gtk"

11:22 AM
>_<

welp, @blade19899 I already agree with you . Fsck this monday

@Serg Just use a proper IDE.
Btw, real programmers use spaces...

real programmers use sed -i 's/\t/\ \ \ \ /g' python_file.py

hahaha I'm sorry I destroyed your indicator

or that

11:29 AM
  File "lock_keys_status.py", line 92, in key_status
    for line in self.run_cmd(['xset', 'q']).split('\n') :
TypeError: a bytes-like object is required, not 'str'
@Zanna you didn't destroy anything, i just have to switch to tools that i don't even know how to use right now

:) the indicator adventure continues

Got it working. This is why we can't have nice things : we had python2 , now python3 comes with its crap. self.run_cmd(['xset', 'q']).split('\n') has to be self.run_cmd(['xset', 'q']).decode().split('\n')
Why decode ???
Ah . . . unicode strings . . . .except where there is no need for frickin unicode
And on that jolly note, i leave

@Serg It's not unicode, its bytes vs. str.
You could have split by a b"\n" probably instead.

@Oli this is correct, but I'll worry about that when I get audited ^_^

Hey @Oli how are you doing?
# cat users.txt | xargs userdel -r
If someone is familiar with xargs, help me out.. I am trying to remove to list of users using xargs.. I have added usernames one per line in a file.. and executing a command like this to remove those users in the file.. But it doesn't work..

1:29 PM
@karthick87 while read user; do sudo userdel -r "$user"; done < users.txt
Although your xargs should have worked. What happened when you tried it?

@terdon thank you that helped.. By the way the problem with xargs is also sorted out. The issue is userdel expects a single login name to be passed, but xargs passes all of them on a single command line.

@karthick87 Yes, if you run it that way, it will. You need to use -P or -n if I remember correctly. I almost never use xargs though.

@terdon you are right, I have did like this "cat users.txt | xargs -n1 userdel -r" and it worked.

Yep
