8:00 PM
file created, let's hope it works

Welp , not sure what's that accepted answer is going on about , but /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf works perfectly fine for me

I created the good (or overly paranoid) habit of always turning pdfs to ps before reading them

@NathanOsman I am Serg and I approve this message

8:06 PM
@IanC interesting , why is that so ?

@Serg, just in case there are any malicious scripts inside the pdf file, since .ps doesn't support scripts
even though the ubuntu documents reader is probably safe even with scripted pdfs
but just in case.. haha

Good thinking.

yup , that's true

user136984
@IanC: How do you convert it into a ps format?

@ParanoidPanda pdf2ps command. But you need a specific package for that installed

8:09 PM
pdf2ps pdffile.pdf psfileoutput.ps
it comes with ubuntu by default

it does ???

user136984
Oh... And why do people normally convert things to ps? I've not heard of ps before...

It came only after I installed the ghostscript package
PostScript (PS) is a computer language for creating vector graphics. It is a dynamically typed, concatenative programming language and was created at Adobe Systems by John Warnock, Charles Geschke, Doug Brotz, Ed Taft and Bill Paxton from 1982 to 1984. It is used as a page description language in the electronic publishing and desktop publishing. == History == The concepts of the PostScript language were seeded in 1976 when John Warnock was working at Evans & Sutherland, a computer graphics company. At that time John Warnock was developing an interpreter for a large three-dimensional graph...
Kind of like LaTex

But LaTeX is more cool.
(Whatever that means...)
P.S. QoS settings on this router don't work very well...

user136984
What are the different "levels" it allows (reading the pdf2ps manpage)?

8:12 PM
It's in the wiki page

<--- is finding out how well BitTorrent works over 3G.

@ParanoidPanda, ps used to be used for printing, it is a documment format mean't for printers that support postscript

So far, it's averaging about 700-800 KB/s.
notbad.jpg

And the different levels are linked to changing fonts, images and so on, I usually convert it to default (level 2)

@NathanOsman so HSPA+ or HSDPA+ or whatever it is, is how fast?

8:15 PM
suggested an edit for the LightDM answer, if you agree!

I should probably start learning LaTeX . . . slooooowly

@Zacharee1 Lemme check.

user136984
@IanC: Thanks for that! I'll be using it! ;)

user136984
And fuelling my paranoia even more so! ;P

hahaha, the more we learn, the more paranoid we get!

8:17 PM
@Zacharee1 HSPA+.

yawn

(According to the current SIM status.)

morning everyone

@ƎpᴉʇʎXD Your name is upside-down.

@NathanOsman OK, but how fast is it?

8:17 PM
@Zacharee1 You want a speed test?

hey edity!

@NathanOsman i know XD

Sure

rest assured i didn't get hacked

We're probably moving to T-Mobile and if the 3G speeds we get after we use up our 4G for the month are HSPA+, that might be pretty nice

user136984
8:19 PM
@ƎpᴉʇʎXD: But how do we know it's not the hacker saying that? :P

it's the actual edity chatting
i changed my name yesterday :P
in Sandbox, 14 hours ago, by Edity
!!flip/Edity

@Zacharee1 ---^

hmm
not bad

not bad indeed

8:21 PM
better than CDMA 3G

speedtest.net uses Flash, so that doesn't really work.
@Zacharee1 I'm sure.

screw flash

@NathanOsman can't you just use the app?

They have an app? Not that I'd be thrilled about installing it...

> HSPA+ can achieve data rates of up to 42.2 Mbit/s
o_O

8:23 PM
I have vodafone 4G LTE
Vodafone Group plc /ˈvoʊdəfoʊn/ is a British multinational telecommunications company, with headquarters in London. Among mobile operator groups globally, Vodafone ranked fifth by revenue and second (behind China Mobile) in the number of connections (435.9 million) as of 2014. Vodafone owns and operates networks in 26 countries and has partner networks in over 50 additional countries. Its Vodafone Global Enterprise division provides telecommunications and IT services to corporate clients in 150 countries. Vodafone has a primary listing on the London Stock Exchange and is a constituent of the FTSE...

Darn it. T-Mobile might count HSPA+ as 4G

dammit, Bharadwaj has rebuild the deb package .... i told him to wait before i make changes to the source

you don't have 4g?

user136984
Doom and gloom will arrive in: 22 hours and 23 minutes.

3.5mb/s says some site for T-Mobile's 3G speed. Not terrible

user136984
8:24 PM
I'm going to start calling it "Doomsday" if nobody minds? :P

doomsday!

@ParanoidPanda heheheheh
could be doom for you >:)

user136984
Well, it might be, but we'll be prepared at least...

Will we?
Can you take the band-aid off your webcam so we can see the events unfold?

Hi

user136984
8:26 PM
Well, at least it won't be a complete out of the blue shock if something does happen.

welcome back SQL squirrel :D

Hi
brb

22 hours is when I'm asleep

user136984
@ƎpᴉʇʎXD: You should be relieved then!

8:28 PM

it will be 10:00 pm when he arrives

@Zacharee1 ---^

about the same

why don't we let the drama come to us, if it dares, instead of bringing it on, hm?

That's definitely good

8:28 PM
@Nathanosman not bad
@Seth sure.

@Seth what ?

@Zacharee1 What I'd be more worried about is how much T-mo signal you get around there.

But it seems like T-Mobile has phased out HSPA+

Guys, dont talk about wolfboyft until he arrives

if*

8:29 PM
@Seth I thought I told you this. T-Mobile's coverage is better than Sprint's and near tied with AT&T now

Really? I'm pretty sure my provider uses them as a partner network when roaming in the US.

and we can take the fight to him

But maybe they are offering LTE.
Who knows.

it..is a mystery....

user136984
@ƎpᴉʇʎXD: It's unlikely he'll show his face in here though, he's much more likely to be spreading info behind my back in the main arqade room.

8:30 PM
Everyone's changed their profile pics

user136984
Anyway, talking about it actually makes me more nervous so perhaps let's change the subject...

sure

@ParanoidPanda one last thing: keep the Arqade chat open

user136984
We could talk about obese Pandas instead. :P

8:31 PM
We could all play ssh tron :D
ssh sshtron.zachlatta.com

stackexchange is still a panda

let's not talk about you @ParanoidPanda >:D
(scathing sarcasm is my favorite)

user136984
@Zacharee1: No, I just plan to keep the tab open on his SE chat profile which shows all new chat activity.

that's probably better

let's talk about kittens
everybody likes kittens

8:33 PM
Tron kittens!

user136984
@Zacharee1: Yes, I'm not sure me being actually in the same room as him helped last time...

user136984
@Serg: I don't! >:P

user136984
I like puppies! :P

@ParanoidPanda if you're there for a while and don't close your browser, put your computer to sleep or refresh the page, your avatar fades

-_- well how about bacon ?

8:33 PM
BACON

BACON.

BACON

user136984
Being a Hamster owner I haven't grown too fond of cats.

@ParanoidPanda You spelled "BACON" wrong.

Bacon for Bacon 2016

8:34 PM

BACON
MMMMMMMMM BACON

user136984
@Serg: Well, I'm trying to be Vegan so I had to give BACON up along time ago...

resistance is futile

@ParanoidPanda I have cats and I had guinea pigs then rats
cats were fine with them

Here: http://www.opensignal.com/reports/2016/02/usa/state-of-the-mobile-network/.

The report says T-Mobile is about 1% lower than ATT in coverage
@Serg theirs is actually pretty good

@Serg umm no that's evil

yikes

Vegetarian bacon, also referred to as fakon, veggie bacon, or vacon, is a product marketed as a bacon alternative that is available in supermarkets. It is high in protein and fiber, yet low in fat, and has no cholesterol. Two slices average 75 calories. Popular brands include Morningstar Farms and Smart Bacon; however, Morningstar Streaky Strips have been discontinued in the UK. Vegetarian bacon is also easy to make at home by marinating strips of tempeh or tofu in various spices, e.g., only tamari (soy sauce) and liquid smoke, and then either frying or baking at 350 F for 24 minutes turning once...

@Zacharee1 Most of the recent articles I've read suggest the opposite..

8:37 PM
dammit

And I know people with T-mobile.
And Sprint.
And AT&T.
I always win on Verizon :P

Hi everyone I am having a little problem
I am not gaining any reputation since yesterday like i have edited this question http://askubuntu.com/questions/800013/ubuntu-wont-boot-on-asus-gl552vw

8 or 9 more edits like that
but I haven't earned any thing

Except the one time AT&T got LTE while I was on 1x.

@Seth you see, the problem with Verizon is that they don't cover anywhere in my area

What's the matter? I haven't reached 2K that i will stop earning 2+ for any edit

8:38 PM
@Zacharee1 o_O

And their maps say we should get LTE

user136984
@Seth: Wasn't T-mobile merged with Orange to make EE?

so I think most of Verizon's "official" stuff is very very very exaggerated

@Zacharee1 which telco is actually honest

@Hizqeel You can only get 1,000 reputation --max-- from edits. You've made 564 edits so you likely crossed that number.

8:39 PM
@ParanoidPanda maybe the UK one

@ParanoidPanda um. what?

@Hizqeel iirc you get +2 only for one edit. not for successive edits

EE and Orange aren't even US carriers..

@edwinksl T-Mobile has customer verified maps

and what Seth said

8:39 PM
@Zacharee1 tmo is about the only one
the rest are crooks

@Seth T-Mobile is international
@edwinksl Sprint says they have the best LTE network, which is funny, because it's an outright lie

user136984
@Seth: Well, I used to be on Orange and since the merger I'm on EE, but maybe it's a regional thing.

@Zacharee1 I'm aware.

user136984
Perhaps they just merged their UK networks or something.

But we're just talking US here.

8:40 PM
@Seth got it

@Seth Panda doesn't know what he's talking about. Haven't we established that earlier?

user136984
I don't know, I assumed they had merged everywhere.

heh
@ParanoidPanda naw

@ParanoidPanda We don't have Orange here. That's a UK carrier

user136984
@Zacharee1: :D

user136984
8:41 PM
@Zacharee1: Do you guys have 3?

who?

user136984
I should really move to that one...

@edwinksl

user136984
It's really cheap, but good service and everything.

The only carriers we care about in the US are VZW, Sprint, ATT and T-Mobile

8:42 PM
@Serg those are some dope shades bruh

T-Mobile is like our 3 I guess

I wouldn't disagree.

user136984
I think it charges maximum 3p for calls and texts or something, I can't remember, but it was really cheap.

We also have US Cellular, Cricket, and some others, but most of them are MVNOs of Sprint or ATT

@edwinksl tried them out at a mall in Jinan ,lok
@edwinksl tried them out at a mall in Jinan ,lol

8:43 PM
@ParanoidPanda we have unlimited calls and text in the US

user136984
@Zacharee1: Really? That's nice...

the only way pay-per-text carriers/plans make it in the US are as pre-paid
TRACfones and the like

@Serg xiuzhen ftw, friend += 1

@Zacharee1 Doesn't one of those (or maybe MetroPCS?) own some of their own towers tho?

@Seth I'm quite happy with MetroPCS

8:44 PM
@Seth not sure. If they do, they're probably still very much partnered with T-Mobile

@Zacharee1 def
@Serg good to know

@edwinksl I'm just so happy she's back. i don't like loosing friends. I'm seriously going to ask her to promise never ever delete me or block again

If I get T-Mobile, I could get the Axon 7! :D
$400 for that beast of a phone
UGH HEADACHE
I need to do homework but I can't think
whoa
T-Mobile's 3G speeds and LTE speeds are both better than all the others
Their 3G latency is the lowest, but 4G is second worse

:O
ubuntu's networking sucks

8:54 PM
@ParanoidPanda ugh

Nitroshare keeps crashing so i got more ram..

Guess we need to ban axes now.

I heard about banhammers, but ban axes?
i get it

If you want to become a penetration tester, you're going to have to learn quite a bit. Right now, it seems like you might not even be able to use Google. — Zacharee1 1 min ago

8:57 PM
@Zacharee1 that comment xD

:)

@Zacharee1 well said, though a bit mean

I have a headache, what can I say?
(besides that)

dat comment doe
