3:02 PM
Yay! I broke 4k rep! (Actually, I have exactly 4k:

Nice work :)

@Zanna Thanks :)
@Zanna - Maybe caused by slow graphics performance? askubuntu.com/questions/834567/…

@AndroidDev gratz!

@Zanna - Just looked at your profile - you and I joined about the same time. How in the world do you get 13k in 6 months??? And I thought @Videonauth gained rep fast...

It's my second account.

3:16 PM
@jokerdino Uhh.. what?
@jokerdino - You mean Zanna is your second account? Or Videonauth is your second account?

Yes.

@jokerdino So you have 3 accounts?

Good question.

@jokerdino - Arrrghhh.... when mods are vague they stay vague :(

@AndroidDev crazy luck, that's all

3:25 PM
@Zanna Can you make any sense of what Jokerdino said?

usually

Hrrrmmmm.... methinks Zanna and Jokerdino are one in the same.

nah, she is awesome.

@AndroidDev sounds like it, needs more detail shrug
we are just from the same cartoon maybe...

@Zanna So if you're not jokerdino's second account, then his second must be Videonauth. Or, he's just making stuff up.

3:34 PM
:o
maybe he is joking around? surely he wouldn't do that though...

Nah, it's not like it's in has name or anything....

i wouldn't draw any conclusions from a username

Everyone here right now has as least 3k rep
Review the CVs!

I did already, and jokerdino is exempt from that...

@ByteCommander?

3:41 PM
?

reviews?

maybe later.
UTC day is still long...

hahaha your imperative tone is making me laugh

feh

@jokerdino must be contagious then ;)

3:48 PM
@AndroidDev I have two accounts >_>

uhoh our CV disciplinarian is in town

whip-cracking hahaha

all i hear is evil laughter

wat
we're below 100 though!

putting 10k mod tools to good use

3:54 PM
@Zacharee1 indeed, good work :)

@edwinksl join
@ThomasWard /o

@Zacharee1 i am already on it, be patient

meh

4:10 PM
i am not sold by your obsession with closing 4CVed questions

Well they have 4CVs. They probably should be closed
I find the ones that should be closed and post them
then we close more questions outside of the CV review queue

There was one I disagreed with and didn't vote...
there's one in the meta queue btw

SOmeone to put a lid on this one --> askubuntu.com/questions/834583/…

video???

done

4:14 PM
@Zanna GASP

@edwinksl yes ?

you back???

@Videonauth!

that im very silent here doesnt mean im not looking at the site

:)

4:15 PM
just busy

lolwat. the CV in Meta is somewhat strange

I gtg, later all xxx

5:09 PM
LOL, 6 people reviewed the Meta CV item: 3 voted to close, 3 voted to leave open... meta.askubuntu.com/review/close/576

Well it's not a dupe
because neither is a question
they're announcements :p

I agree (voted to leave open)

But they are the same "announcement" or rather injunction

yeah but it's not like it's helpful to dupe them

user136984
Is there anybody here with any packaging experience?

5:17 PM
it's not like anonymous is going to get an answer to a non-question

user136984
I've got something rather important that I need to finish by the end of the day and I have an error when building it to try and make a debdiff.

@ParanoidPanda I bring you greetings from the Dark Realm
you still got a question?

user136984
@ThomasWard: Right, so I have been asked to backport some patches in for openjpeg2 and when running debuild -S I get the following output:

@Zacharee1 I might have to ask a meta question about meta questions... is there a meta meta?

user136984
dpkg-buildpackage -rfakeroot -d -us -uc -S
dpkg-buildpackage: source package openjpeg2
dpkg-buildpackage: source version 2.1.1-1ubuntu1
dpkg-buildpackage: source distribution unstable
dpkg-buildpackage: source changed by name <email>
dpkg-source --before-build openjpeg2-2.1.1

5:20 PM
@Zanna it's called /dev/null

lol

user136984
All patches should have been applied correctly etc, I don't see what I am doing wrong.

@ParanoidPanda apt-cache policy apache2-dev
is it installed?

user136984
No

@ThomasWard haha I will take that as a suggestion to refrain

user136984
5:21 PM
I guess I should install it then?

@Zanna i was just making a (stupid) funny :P
@ParanoidPanda I would, usually debhelper headers and such come from libraries, either -dev libraries or individual dh-... packages

user136984
Ok, thanks! I will give that a go and let you know how it goes! :)

@ThomasWard harsh!

@ParanoidPanda confirmed the file you're looking for is in apache2-dev, install and you're good to go
@Zanna Typically if you have a question about meta, you should ask about it on meta. I know, metaception, but anything about the site should probably go on meta.
or ask your question generally here

@ThomasWard yeah, I was just being stupid joking around too

5:25 PM
:)

but you'd probably get eaten alive there

@KazWolfe nom nom nom

but where do we put meta-meta SE?
like where can i complain that metaSE is this harsh place that hates new users with a fiery passion?
and not lose 250 rep over it

@KazWolfe that is a wild place as @edwinksl says

holy crap that ping sound scared the bejesus out of me since i am on max volume with earphones...

5:28 PM
@edwinksl HI

user136984
@ThomasWard: Right, now I'm getting this error:

user136984
dpkg-buildpackage -rfakeroot -d -us -uc -S
dpkg-buildpackage: source package openjpeg2
dpkg-buildpackage: source version 2.1.1-1ubuntu1

@ParanoidPanda Ask Ubuntu
you get repz for questions there

@ParanoidPanda congrats, now you need the other one
@ParanoidPanda apt-get install javahelper

@Zacharee1 good thing i muted before that :p

user136984
5:30 PM
Ah...

@edwinksl darn
@KazWolfe lol. Like Mr. 560 questions doesn't know that /s

@edwinksl sorry!

user136984
@ThomasWard: All the previous changelog entries said unstable, lintian is now complaining about that, should I change it to the release?

@ParanoidPanda exact message please?

user136984
Now running lintian...
E: openjpeg2 changes: bad-distribution-in-changes-file unstable
W: openjpeg2 source: newer-standards-version 3.9.8 (current is 3.9.7)
Finished running lintian.

user136984
5:33 PM
And the second error?

user136984
I used pull-lp-source to get the source and it just stuck an ubuntu1 to the end of the version number.

@ParanoidPanda if Ubuntu is the target of the changes, then unstable should be replaced with yakkety, etc. and you can adjust your version number as you need
@ParanoidPanda you can disregard the error if the target is Debian
and the 'newer-standards-version' can be ignored

user136984
@ThomasWard: Right, the target is Ubuntu so I guess I should make one for Yakkety and Xenial (the two releases the package is for)?

user136984
Could I just make it into a debdiff now and change the names in there or do I need to do it before then?

user136984
5:37 PM
Actually, it's such a small change, it doesn't really matter.

@ParanoidPanda is this for a bugfix?

user136984
Yes

user136984
For a package with no maintainer but random people who want to lend a hand.

@ParanoidPanda separate debdiffs, but you need to focus your deb diffs separately

user136984
Right, I am doing that now.

user136984
5:38 PM
:)

user136984
Thanks!

@ParanoidPanda you will need separate debdiffs for Xenial and Yakkety, built off the individual separate source packages
because they're different versions

user136984
It was a no-change backport to Xenial from Yakkety.

of the patch or the entire version

user136984
Don't I just need to change the version numbers slightly and the release names?

5:39 PM
@ParanoidPanda no.

user136984
Oh, ok... But what will the difference be between the two debdiffs if the source is the same?

user136984
I guess it's possible there were some changes, I will have a look...

@ParanoidPanda i think you don't know how to do the SRU
@ParanoidPanda start from the beginning
are you trying to backport Yakkety -> Xenial

Ah, MetaSE. Always fun to browse the negative Q's

or are you trying to apply a single patch to the Xenial

user136984
5:41 PM
Ok

as well as Yakkety (separately)

@ByteCommander I would leave that open

user136984
I have two patches to apply.

user136984
The versions in the two releases appear to be the same.

they aren't

user136984
5:41 PM
Oh

% rmadison -u ubuntu openjpeg2
 openjpeg2 | 2.1.0-2   | vivid/universe   | source
 openjpeg2 | 2.1.0-2.1 | wily/universe    | source
 openjpeg2 | 2.1.0-2.1 | xenial/universe  | source
 openjpeg2 | 2.1.1-1   | yakkety/universe | source

user136984
Ah

@ParanoidPanda so, you have to do two separate source aquisitions
one for Xenial
one for Yakkety
apply the patches individually to each.

this would make a very good question :P

update Version strings separately per wiki.ubuntu.com/SecurityTeam/… recommendations
debdiff both individually
attach to a relevant bug on Launchpad, and request sponsoring

user136984
5:43 PM
Ok, well, it's only two patches so that shouldn't take too long...

user136984
I just don't do SRUs very often and I haven never done a security one before...

@Zanna there's some more stuff to close in UR

user136984
@ThomasWard: In the link you provided in the "Preparing the patch" section it talks about having one for -security and one for -updates, do I need to provide two separate debdiffs for this?

@ParanoidPanda no, that's for security patching, i only linked that for the version chart

user136984
Security patching?

user136984
5:49 PM
I am patching two CVEs here.

@ParanoidPanda SRU only goes to -updates, but you don't target it, you target either ${RELEASE} or ${RELEASE}-updates
@ParanoidPanda that's something you neglected to mention

user136984
Oh, sorry, so how does that change things?

@ParanoidPanda changes it a little bit because of version strings, etc.
now you follow the template for changelog entries in #3 on that link
and you target ${RELEASE}-security
one for xenial one for yakkety.
but note that you may want to wait for Yakkety to release
we're in final freeze and Security repo isn't open yet for Y, iirc

user136984
So what should I do for the Yakkety one then?

user136984
Nothing for the moment?

5:51 PM
make a zero day exploit
then release a zero-day patch

user136984
What about if I just give them the debdiff for both and they can upload the yakkety-security one when that part is open?

be highly respected by security people eveywhere

@Serg Heh! :-)

user136984
@ThomasWard: So if I just provide them with two debdiffs, one for yakkety-security, and the other for xenial-security, that will be fine?

mhm

5:56 PM
review on 100

@KazWolfe 94 :=)

why did you vote to reopen?

@KazWolfe version does not matter.
it should not have been closed... someone should have edited out the versionnumber

Morning everyone

6:04 PM
morning 1
though it is 8pm here :P

@Rinzwind and if the camera works in 16.04?

well its 1 pm here, but I woke up half an hour ago
:P

@KazWolfe where does it say that? :P

@Rinzwind it doesn't. i'm saying, how do we know that this isn't a version-specific issue that was resolved later?
maybe this is supported in later versions?

ok made a comment ;-)

6:07 PM
@KazWolfe I left closed.

@Fabby you would wouldn't you >:)

:-)

@Fabby the question that u thought was spam yesterday
@Fabby I flagged it and got it denied :(
rip perfect record

I really doubt that the version matters though :)

@Fabby Hey Fabby! Nice to see you have time to drop in here on two consecutive days. They leave you some free hours on the week ends now?

6:08 PM
Yeah... New mods

I don't have to work this week-end!

You guys play any games?

only this weekend? :/

@OwenHines When you get to 10000 or so, you stop worrying about perfect records!
@OwenHines We play different kinds of games than you.

6:10 PM
@OwenHines yes sir

Like what

Sex >:-)

Just bought Tomb Raider 20 ann. edition

:D How is it?

6:10 PM
Finished Atelier Sophie before that

I've been playing a lot of Overwatch.

@Fabby speak for yourself

@Fabby not started yet

@Fabby ------------____________________________---------------------

@OwenHines there is a big ass RPG comming to Steam Linux

6:11 PM
Really?

@Zacharee1 WHAT? I'm just stating the bleeding obvious!

looks promising

High Baldur's Gate type of game

6:12 PM
@Fabby I don't think I have to worry about it until im older
:)

oh and it does not list Linux but it will be there. It was a crowdfunded game

@KazWolfe That looks a bit like a scrotum with eyes...

lol

(Hey, you posted this!)

Fabby you're supposed to be old and wise
but u have the mind of a 12 year old lol

6:13 PM
new rule. anybody with a significant other is no longer allowed in this chat.

According to one of my ex-GFs: I'm a five-year-old

only people who have no hope of finding love ever are now permitted here.

@KazWolfe guess I can stay :+)

same
for a while

6:14 PM
@KazWolfe That rules out most users except you, @ParanoidPanda and @OwenHines

well i can't be in this room ever again, ha ha.

<:-)

w̹h͉̻̞͓ý͚̗̻̲̳̤̟ ̳a̟̫͙̝m̛̠ ̶͉͓̹͙ì͈͍̲ ̯̹̗̰̦͝ͅso͚̼ ͈a̷͉̖̤l̷͔̼̪͕̹͇ͅo͍̘̗̲n̴̘̹̙̯̫e̖͙

lol

If you'd like, I can have you banned for 24 hours...

6:15 PM
why me huh

@Fabby you have no mod power here.

@KazWolfe If you want some tips, feel free to ask.

@Fabby i know all of the tricks.
#1 is to not be me.

@KazWolfe Ask @Serg : I had him banned for 12 hours because he had to study!

@Fabby keep your tentacles with yourself >.<

6:17 PM
@KazWolfe Why don't you have a GF then if you know all the tricks?

@Fabby do you want the short list of the long list?

Both. Start with the former. :-)

tl;dr is i'm kaz. that is easy enough.

@ByteCommander Hey, Vorlons don't have tentacles! ;-)

long list is well, i'm kaz, i never leave my home because it's a 30 minute drive to the nearest town, i spend maybe, what, 5 minutes a month near people within my dating range, not to mention i am a complete and utter ass of a human (yay!) with some potential psychopathic tendencies.
:D
plus i'm a redditor.

6:20 PM
Ah... You're a lost cause then!
How old are you? (decade is enough)

20s

@Fabby Oh, right. That were the Centauri...

@KazWolfe what you are from the 20s? >:)

@ByteCommander :D :D :D

@Rinzwind time travel

6:21 PM
What do Vorlons have?

>:)

Yeah, lost case...

@ByteCommander a big ass

@ByteCommander A-sexual energetic beings.
@Rinzwind No all ofthem. Just me!

So they are evolved beyond the need of any physical encounters?
How boring... :P

6:22 PM
that's a depressing existence.
also TIL kaz on coffee is a vorlon.

time to give Lara a test run :=D
Ill be back

@KazWolfe It's easy: your species' obsession with sex is weird.
Food.
BBL8R

can i just make a robotic AI girlfriend?

@KazWolfe They're getting close to the VR equivalent of that
I'm just holding out for that

6:36 PM
o/

\o/

Review queues are on 90 in total!
Woohoo!
I never thought this is possible.

Is that low or high

user136984
@ThomasWard: So is what I am doing called an SRU then and it has the same format in the bug report as any other of this type would (normally has Impact, Test case and Regression potential sections)?

6:47 PM
@OwenHines It is low.

user136984
Oh, he seems to have gone...

We had it on ... what was it? 3k once?

user136984
@NathanOsman: Would you know then if a backport of CVEs to a package would have the same format in the bug report as any other SRU?

user136984
I assume so, I just want to check before I go ahead with it.

Thats a lot of reviews

user136984
6:48 PM
Normally they look something like:

user136984
* Impact
some columns have a default width of 0 pixels which is buggy

* Test case
- go to preference and enable one of the memory/started column
you should have list with a decent width

* Regression potential
the change is only one in the default value of a schema, if the UI looks fine there it's working

user136984
(Just a random example taken from a report.)

@OwenHines Almost 5k was the maximum, I think:
7
Q: What's up with the late answers queue?

kosIt looks like we currently have 4400+ late answers awaiting review: Obviously that's not possible, so what's up with that review queue? Looks like a server-side issue, however using Google Chrome 45.0.2454.93.

Normally it used to be a few hundred reviews.
Before the last mod elections, we had review counts in the upper hundreds and afterwards in the lower hundreds, but seeing it go below 100 is awesome.

@ByteCommander I'm back!
Of course they are... ;-)
Smoke. BRB

:O Someone dared to VTC a (4 years old) question by Oli as duplicate! askubuntu.com/review/close/627282
I vote to leave open...

7:07 PM
Oli our lord and savior

user136984
7:26 PM
@ThomasWard: Well, I've submitted the debdiffs so I guess I will find out if I did anything wrong! Thanks for the help anyway! :)

user136984
@NathanOsman: I decided to go with that standard SRU format, and I'm sure that I will be corrected there if I am wrong.

Yeah, I have no idea.

@Fabby I remember you being weird, but you seem a little less restrained than before :p

:)
@ByteCommander: Sorry I destroyed you edit... askubuntu.com/questions/834633/putting-a-new-directory-in-path
(it's a duplicate BTW)
@Zacharee1 The older I get, the less restrained I become.

@Fabby Nah, good job. I mainly edited to get that guy's email address out of the public view...

7:41 PM
That's how I started too... ;)
I'm off!
Logging out now

Anybody having seen this site before? howtoubuntu.org

Nope
Wooo!
Just hit the 800 mark

user136984
8:11 PM
Well, goodnight folks! :)

goodnight :)

8:22 PM
@OwenHines I edited your edit to the root user question, because I think OP might be upset by you removing their movie reference... just my opinion though

@Zanna, oh ok. Thanks :)
Don't want to get anyone upset

Others might disagree... I think to edit it out conflicts with intent, so going for a compromise. They got three downvotes and that's enough pain! But maybe people would hate the post less without the jokey tone...

No, I get it.
Thanks for your input

Thanks for your good work :)

no problem
@Zanna you have work today?

8:47 PM
Hello
