Didn't pay attention to that, however no I checked that now and they were all different users.

@Serg you're a fast learner :)

@NathanOsman not really :) I'm just really really enjoying the whole ubuntu - linux - and coding jazz
@NathanOsman have a minute for a quick docker question ?

user136984
8:19 PM
@Serg: Make sure you listen to these 5 songs: Gimme Chocolate!!, Ijime,Dame,Zettai, Line!, MEGITSUNE, and Road of Resistance! :)

@ParanoidPanda listened to first one :) , onto the others

@ParanoidPanda I'm pretty sure you'll keep me posted every time you make the newsletter... :P

user136984
:D

user139252
Okay

user139252
My signup script is fixed, no longer bash, and much more secure

user136984
8:30 PM
@Serg: Good, I hope you like them! :)

@HeatherBrown cool

user139252
@NathanOsman Found an exploit with my bash script that allowed you to put "sudo" at the end of your user name when making a new user, which was a really silly mistake

user139252
So, I made it in Python with more secure checks

@HeatherBrown i was expecting the echo with backticks for executing some commands

user139252
Well, now you can't do any of that :P

user136984
8:37 PM
You know I will hopefully be going to a BABYMETAL concert this year (if I can get tickets)! :D

kos
@HeatherBrown Oh right, forgot about that, I was just bored >:)

user139252
I'm on Tox now

@kos Thanks for the correction. It just an LP, but should not be there in any case.

@HeatherBrown Speaking of sudo, my old supervisor from one of my past jobs, insisted on creating a root user for the systems named "sudo". He obviously had no idea what it stood for.

user139252
@Terrance Well, he was a supervisor....

user139252
8:43 PM
Those guys never know what they're doing

@HeatherBrown =) Good point!

user136984
:D

user136984
@Terrance: You should always supervise your supervisor! ;D

user139252
@ParanoidPanda My tox username is hbrown

@ParanoidPanda Yes, indeed I should. =)

user136984
8:44 PM
@HeatherBrown: Ok, and? :D

user139252
If you wanted to add me...

user139252
You're always asking people for Tox :P

user136984
The username doesn't matter, in fact, can you actually do anything with it? I'm not sure, but it's the ToxID that allows you to add people.

Q: Broken Encryption on StackExchange?

SuperSluetherI've been getting intermittent "Broken Encryption" messages on AskUbuntu's website. So far, I've only seen this on www.askubuntu.com and www.blender.stackexchange.com, and it's not always there. Is this a problem with StackExchange, or is it a problem on my end? Edit: To make the problem even...

kos
@LuĂsdeSousa I'm sorry, which correction?

user139252
8:45 PM
Oh. How do I find that?

user139252
Ah... Got it.

user139252
EB8ABFE9B0EE722ED31666711A1EEE0CCBFD048969F929BDC34331B770CD601627AAAD723011

user136984
@HeatherBrown: I've sent you a request. :)

kos
@LuĂsdeSousa Ah got it, sorry, I found those post with a query and batch edited them without even looking at the username. Np!
@HeatherBrown You don't want me in your system, do you? :)
@HeatherBrown Lol:

user139252
@Kos what do you mean?

user139252
8:59 PM
shoot

user139252
I broke it

kos
@HeatherBrown Yep :)

user139252
I forgot an indentation

user136984
Does anyone else using qTox get this by the way? :)

user139252
Fixed

user136984
9:00 PM
And is there a character limit in each message?

kos
@HeatherBrown However before that my old user wasn't in your system anymore, hence "you don't want me in your system". :)

user136984
Because I accidentally spammed @HeatherBrown brown with lots of Pandas and it broke it up into like 5 messages or something... :D

user139252
@kos I didn't mean to delete you D=

OK, so i have docker image of java8 running the minecraft server, port 25565 exposed . . . then why on earth my minecraft client gives java io exception ?

user139252
@kos has write disabled :P

kos
9:03 PM
@HeatherBrown But you did it (and for the record my feelings are forever hurt for that).

user139252
@Kos I am very, very sorry. How can I make it up to you?

user139252
I'll make you some spaghetti carbonara.

user139252
It's delicious, I've made it twice in the last week.

kos
@HeatherBrown Nah, it's ok. No one doesn't want me in their system, so that must have been an error. :D

almost got it , but it triest to authenticate my account with mojang . . .

user139252
9:15 PM
It shouldn't if you're just running the server...

user139252
@Kos :P

kos
@HeatherBrown Leave me in, you don't want me to DDoS it ;)
(joking obviously, I wouldn't)

user139252
I won't do anymore :P

@HeatherBrown well here's what's happening

user139252
@Serg turn on offline mode in your server.properties file

user139252
9:20 PM
just add offline=yes at the end, I believe

user139252
signup script still ramps up load average, but considerably less

@HeatherBrown offline mode ? wait, but isn;t server supposed to be online ? offline means it's off , right ? i'm a little confused

user139252
offline mode doesn't check log-ins against auth servers

user139252
So, technically, unregistered users can play

user139252
But, they'll just show up as "Player"

user139252
9:26 PM
Registered users still show with their name

@Serg you had a Docker question?
Sorry for the delay, I was trying to clean something and it took longer than I expected.

@NathanOsman basically wanted to know how to copy a file to docker container. Already figured out to mount a directory from host into container directory /data

But you want it included in the container?

well, as long as I can net java run a jar file from outside the container, that's all i need for now
next issue i am facing is authenticatio with mojang servers

user139252
@NathanOsman You can try bashing away at my new signup script

user139252
9:32 PM
Shouldn't be able to exploit it now

Do you still want me to write a Go version?

user139252
If you want to, but I think my Python is pretty okay...

user139252
I would have to install GoLang on that pi :P

user139252
How can I see what is causing a higher load average if the CPU usage is low?

@HeatherBrown That's a good question - I'm not sure.

user139252
9:38 PM
I guess it never goes above 1.6, so I should be okay on a quad-core system...

kos
No fun with the scripts, don't know Python at all :(

user139252
Read python basics :P

Can I make some suggestions for the Python script? There is still some potential for exploitation, though I haven't been able to do it myself. I can continue this in Hangouts if needed...

user139252
Sure

kos
@HeatherBrown Not a native speaker, and not to always criticize, but "I will be list some basics of the Python language here" doesn't sound grammatical to me. :P
Ah right, Python has that indentation thing.

9:44 PM
It isn't, but we're all prone to those mistakes every once in a while.
I'm guessing the "be" was a typo.

kos
@NathanOsman Sure, if you look up my posts you'll probably find far more and worse things. I was just teasing @HeatherBrown

user139252
@kos I meant to type "be listing", but was tired.

I tend to make those mistakes when I type too fast. My fingers get ahead of my brain :P
Also, there's a gold-colored Nexus 6P available in the US now.

kos
@HeatherBrown Anyway cool, now I know Python's basic. Let's see if I can get through the challenges.

python is awesome.

kos
9:52 PM
@HeatherBrown What do you mean by "print every step of the way"? Something like "Entering WHILE loop, ..."?

@HEatherBrown @NathanOsman small question : what typical ports are used for user authentication ? or . . .something similar

Authentication?
What type of authentication?

@NathanOsman well, my guess is that I need to expose a certain port so that minecraft server authenticates me with mojang's servers . . .

user139252
@Kos I just mean each number from 1 to... whatever number I put

@Serg Oh, I have no idea what ports Minecraft uses.

9:56 PM
I'm conecting to my raspberry, the minecraft server on raspberry tries to communicate with mojang . . .

kos
@HeatherBrown Ok. Can't even do that :D do you need to declare variables explicitly?

user139252
@Kos Not like "int x", no

user139252
But, if you say x = 0, then that works

user139252
then you can do x+=1, which will make x increase by 1

user139252
and store back to x

kos
10:01 PM
@HeatherBrown Ok cool, I guess increments don't work? print ++i endlessly prints 0.
#!/usr/bin/python
i = 0
while i < 13579:
    print ++i
^^

user139252
Nope

user139252
That won't work :P

Well, enough of raspberry for one day
at least i finally figured out how to get server up and running . . next step - authentication

kos
That's too bad. :(

@kos but print x+1 will work

10:09 PM
@kos Python is explicit over implicit. "++i" isn't so explicit. The python way would be something like i += 1

kos
@Seth I see. C background here. I have the sometimes questionable tendency to save statements to detriment of clarity :D
@Serg But it's not the same! Or is it? Doesn't that only show the value of x incremented by one?

user136984
Goodnight guys! :)

kos
Ok question:
with open(file.txt) as f
    content = f.readlines()
Just f = object and readlines() = method?

yes

kos
Ok, thanks!

10:22 PM
:)

@HeatherBrown can python do something like process substitution ? like what bash does with ls $( cat dirlist.txt )

kos
@Serg Perl can. ;)

@kos well, since we're trying to learn python here, that's why i was asking :) that way we could do what you're trying to achieve with print x++ . . . except something similar to print $( expr x + 1 ) in bash . . .but in python . . .you see what i am saying ?
well . . .it needs to store the variable back somehow

kos
Lol... I was still using @HeatherBrown's shell to do things
@Serg Yeah, I see, I tried this but it says syntax error: print(eval("x = x+1"))

what are we trying to do?

10:36 PM
@Seth simulate perl's print x++ in python :)
print and store variable at the same time . . .or something like that

I'm not familiar with perl, but I guess you mean something like tee?

@Seth yes . . .except tee writes to file . . .we want to store in a variable
I'm gonna go outside for a while, so I'll be AFK for about 20 mins

kos
@Seth Or C... Something to replace the missing ++ and -- operators

++ and -- don't print anything.. so now I am confused.
@Serg Is there some reason you can't assign and print it on two lines? Unless you're doing something strange that'd probably be how it's supposed to be done..

@Seth no good reason except for code golfing and . . . .just to do it :)

kos
10:45 PM
@Seth What do you mean? I understand they are not in Python?
@Serg Yeah, my reason is waiting my pizza to be ready in the oven :)
Ah, and here's the reason: stackoverflow.com/q/3654830/4316166

user139252
@Serg You mean like calling a new process?

user139252
Yeah, you can.

user139252
That's what my signup script does now.

@kos ++ and -- equivalents are += and -=.
@Serg ah.

kos
11:04 PM
@Seth Yes, but apparently you can't e.g. both increment and return the incremented value like e.g. in Perl (in Perl what we are trying to do would be print($x++), which first increments $x and then prints $x). We're trying to do that in a single statement in Python, though it doesn't make too much sense :)

user139252
That's what Python can do :P

@kos I've never needed to do that, so I'm not sure how.. I'd imagine you'd just use two lines.. You might ask a question on Stack Overflow about it. I can't find an existing one myself.

user139252
@Kos print x+=1

user139252
Wait, no

user139252
11:12 PM
Why doesn't that work? D=

user139252
looks like it has to be

user139252
x+=1
print x

kos
@Seth Actually maybe it's interesting enough to be asked on SO
@HeatherBrown Yeah, but the challenge is doing it into a singe statement :)

user139252
You could define a function

kos
@HeatherBrown I think it's a bit cheaty for the purpose of using a single statement :)

Q: Confused about flaging comments and removel

mark kirbyI flagged two comments earlier as rude or offensive, they were, no doubt, they were insults. The strange thing was these comments were instantly removed and my flags are listed as helpful in my profile, what happened here? They usually go for review and are dealt with later, correct? Why did t...

user139252
@Kos am I messing you up?

user139252
Sorry :P

user139252
@Kos Okay, that time it was just a test of something

user139252
I am officially done messing with you.

kos
@HeatherBrown What happened???

user139252
11:58 PM
@Kos I echoed a "q" to your TTY, which caused less to exit

user139252
Time to head home
