11:00 PM
:) It's fine. My brain reads doxing as doaxing when pronounced and doxxing as docksing when pronounced even though boxing is bocksing. So, it felt right to spell it that way.

Anyway, There is no such thing as "The English academy" that decides what's right and wrong, so as long as it hasn't shown up in the OED or Webster's you can write anything you want!

Since I'm talking to someone not an English native speaker, I felt obligated to explain my spelling decision.

:D Thanks for the effort!
I need a smoke! The review queue is bloody slow!

@Fabby I cast a reopen vote, but I don't usually cast Reopen on the basis of my answering. It's still horridly unclear. Which is why I VTC'd it

Well, apparently you were able to lower your IQ to that one of a gorilla, as the OP accepted the answer! ;-)

11:09 PM
What's the talk?

@Zacharee1 Talk-talk

@Fabby thanks..

@Fabby read through comments first :)
the comments shed light on it, but they never revised
so unclear
:)

What question is this?

@Zacharee1 This

11:12 PM
@Zacharee1 the 666th question of the 666th day of the 666th year of the 666th eon of eternity.
(evil is evil)

@ThomasW. NOW the sarcastic people are on

@ThomasW. :D :D :D

:P

You're in a good mood today! Got enough sleep?

@Fabby Nope
fifteen coffees worth of caffeine

11:13 PM
Listen to an old fart:
Sleep is more important then sex!

sleep only works if my leg doesn't die

I can't believe people actually think copying the ISO to the disc makes it boot

my leg's been screwed up all day - severe muscle cramps this morning.

good for you

@Zacharee1 An unspoken rule in technology and support:
"People in general are stupid. Individual persons can be smart, but it's rare in comparison with the general population."

11:14 PM
lol
I guess
I feel like it's almost common sense though

it's not

If you think you know enough about tech
to burn a CD

@Zacharee1 Most people don't know the first thing about technology!

then you should know to burn a CD

@Fabby That's IT Support Rule #1

11:15 PM
@ThomasW. Good one!

IT Support Rule #2 is the rule i said

The IT here has no idea what they're doing

IT Support Rule #3: BACKUPS! BACKUPS! BACKUPS!

Apparently last year no sites were even blocked

11:16 PM
and here i was thinking you were reaching for that one @ThomasW.

IT Support Rule #4: Don't irritate the techs - they know evil things

@hbdgaf :D

@hbdgaf :P

We could get into ANYTHING
Now they have L2TP VPN blocked
idk why
They went from nothing blocked to everything blocked

L2TP on its own is meh
PPTPd is evil and should burn

11:17 PM
@Zacharee1 Probably someone somewhere in the organisation was using this to download Pr0n!

IPSec is ok. OpenVPN is OK.
and lol

Well if you could point me to graphical server solutions for OpenVPN I would greatly appreciate it
I just don't have the patience to figure that stuff out
What bothers me is that the VPN used to work, but now it doesn't
and it works from elsewhere
afkfn

@ThomasW. I use OpenVPN.
They include a set of scripts that make it easier to create a CA and issue client certificates.

@NathanOsman So do I. I have an IPSec connection only for my iPhone at home, OpenVPN for all other devices
@NathanOsman Yeah, pfSense made it easy too

Unfortunately, I can't use it on my Android phone.

11:21 PM
@NathanOsman why not?
there's OpenVPN for Android

Apparently OpenVPN for Android doesn't support tap.
Even on rooted phones.

@NathanOsman That's interesting.

Everytime I launch the Windows 7 VM, it tries to download 150+ updates. >.<

lol
One of those is the Win 10 upgrade assistant
"upgrade upgrade upgrade"

How do you think I feel on a daily build PPA? I chose that though.

11:24 PM
@NathanOsman That's what service packs are fore... It's time again for the next one!

(but they want as many people over on Win10 first!)

FORE!
Win 10 isn't bad people

I know. It's an improvement over Windows 8, for sure.

I'm gonna be buying a Win10 license soon

11:26 PM
@SmokeDetector is that even an answer?

But the whole point of the Windows 7 VM is for testing. In other words, it frequently gets rolled back to the original pre-boot snapshot.

@SmokeDetector flagged as convert to comment.

Gotta decide if the extra money is worth it for the extra $$$

@Zacharee1 Nope.
I flagged it.

Well the user can't convert it

11:26 PM
@RPiAwesomeness Oooh. Ouch. How much is the full license?

@NathanOsman true!

@NathanOsman 119 home 199 pro
USD
Free form Win 7/8.1 though

Phoo. I am not spending that much

@NathanOsman *2

which means you can buy a $45 key for 7 Ultimate
and do the free upgrade

11:28 PM
@Zacharee1 Did they simplify the licensing yet? Or is it still an 8 tier system where you have to get ultimate to get multimedia and domain functionality?

I'm getting it off /r/MicrosoftSoftwareSwap - $15 for Pro.
I've got a legit Win 7 key but they won't accept it :P

If you mean editions, it's Home and Pro only now
@RPiAwesomeness just do the phone activation

I didn't pay anything for mine thanks to being clever. I originally had an OEM license for Vista and upgraded the key to Windows 8. After that, I moved the hard drive to another machine and re-activated. Then I upgraded to Windows 10.

I bought a key and had the same problem
this worked

Once you upgrade over the top of Win 7/8.1, you no longer need to do the upgrade install.

11:29 PM
@Terrance ?

I did a clean install the other day, no keycodes typed in, and it activated automatically online.

That's how Windows 10 is meant to work
Be careful though

Of course I upgraded first from Win7

I had to go thru 3 MS techs to get mine reactivated after the key got blocked
For some strange reason

Weird

11:30 PM
40 late answers reviewed!

It's so annoying how they "help" you
@Fabby gfu

40 late answers reviewed! Come on guys! get out of the chat and go do some reviews! we need to get the queue down!
3

They ask what your problem is, you explain the whole issue, then they ask you again
@Fabby never

The chat is the noise, so I can focus on something else.

I don't think I really can

11:31 PM
@Zacharee1 Can you at least star it then for the morning shift?

I don't see any. But alas, it is time for me to leave work and do the travel thing home. =)

I mean I have 1.8k rep

I had a unique problem with my laptop. It originally shipped with a Windows 7 Home Premium license but I put in a new SSD and installed Ubuntu. Later I wanted to install Windows 7 again but didn't have the install disc. So I had to track down the ISO from a third party. (Which meant comparing MD5 hashes to ensure it was legit.)

@Terrance travel thing lol
@NathanOsman DigitalOcean didn't work?

@NathanOsman M$ used to offer downloads for such cases...

11:32 PM
Chat with ya all later! =)

(on digitalriver or so)

O_O 4.1k

@Fabby DigitalRiver was shut down last year

@Fabby They still do but not for OEM licenses.
@ThomasW. Exactly.

@NathanOsman That's truth

11:33 PM
@NathanOsman Ah!

it's why I keep an ISO around :)
DreamSpark ftw (from University)

I'm annoyed that Win 7 ISOs can't be downloaded officially anymore

You think that's bad... wait until you see what Apple does...
They don't offer anything for older releases.

OS X is obsolete after two releases
It's almost worse than iOS
and iDevices

@Zacharee1 To be fair, Windows 7 support is going to end soon.

11:34 PM
Sadly
Why can I not type?

Because reasons

saldy, officialyl

I have a humorous picture for that...

@NathanOsman Guess what that reminds me of. EOL Ubuntu releases.
:P
not new to me

At least they still work

11:35 PM
@Zacharee1 waht od uoy eman uoy cat'n tpye
3

@hbdgaf That deserves an uppercase LOL
and a star
I wonder if I should do my work...

Just for the record, I can type.

I know thatr
OH MY GOD THERE IT IS
AGH

Yesh

11:39 PM
> Operation completed sucessfully. Operation completed succesfully. Operation completed!

'Tis
'Tis indeed

@NathanOsman Wait, you were Homeschooled?

@RPiAwesomeness where'd that come from?

His G+

@RPiAwesomeness Yes.
You were too I take it?

11:40 PM
/me high-fives @NathanOsman
:D

/me?

All but the first two grades. So I have a tiny taste of what public school is like.

How many things is that from?
Private school all the way

@NathanOsman Fair enough

ugh
I'm 138 rep away from 2,000, but I can't seem to gain any more except for approved edits

11:44 PM
Just let it happen. A few good answers, and it grows all on its own.

It seems, though, that people come here to ask questions and they're all either not about Ubuntu, they're duplicates or the OP never responds to comments

yay

You missed comiling instead of compiling.

It seems this user has trouble with homework
@hbdgaf oops

11:49 PM
New indie game bundle is up with some cool Linux games :)

fun fun fun

@Fabby now that I've seen kale in person, I think I won't eat it ;p - new job skill I have - whipping kale dry...

kale isn't bad
bake it with salt and you have kale chips

Kale is great. It's something we used to get at the grandparent's, and it's way better texture, flavor, and nutrition wise than spinach.

@Zacharee1 that might be fun, myself I usually don't like salad, but cooked into something could be good
I was surprised I really liked eggplant having eggplant parmesan

11:55 PM
@Mateo :D

I don't really like eggplant

@NathanOsman What do you think of this answer instead of the crazy one?

@Mateo Steamed kale with onions, bacon or butter, peeled boiled baby potatoes, and dealer's choice on dry seasonings as a side.
My salad choice is baby spinach or romaine tips.

Eggplant parmesan - use salt to asorb the bad taste, rinse off, then cover in egg, breadcrumbs and tons of cheese and bake - very nice :)

@Fabby This might be doable if they had Grub on their machines.

11:58 PM
@hbdgaf now I'm hungryu
there. it. is. again.

I'm going to write a stackchat client just so I can alias people to "the shatner"

what?
