doesn't kivy look snappy?

@msPeachy they might reject it saying there is a possibility the person will come back and improve it.

@msPeachy Use the pre-forma comments, and try and make an edit yourself telling the user you're doing it this one time, but to please do so themselves from the next time onwards

that's what I'm talking about "being too nice"

@msPeachy considering the comments in reddit and Marco's blog, we are doomed that way.

btw, how do you make quotes of previous chat messages?

7:02 AM
@aking1012 Yep

@nitstorm I wouldn't improve it since I myself does not know the answer, I'm not talking about answers that needs formatting, I'm referring to answers that are merely links and as @izx said those one-line-answers or maybe-or-not-really answers.

@nitstorm Like that --^

@msPeachy yeah but just get an excerpt from the link and post it there... like a preview or summary sort of, of the proposed answer...
@AmithKK exactly, but how?

@nitstorm Paste the link alone

@jokerdino Oh the feedback blog?

7:03 AM
@msPeachy yeah. that one.

ah ... I see, thanks :) @AmithKK

btw, I am just proposing this for just mere links and nothing else

@jokerdino that's the first thing I clicked this morning when I logged on, reading the first few feedbacks, I didn't bother to continue. Did you write one?

nope
me not liking those comments, but since I am nice guy I will flag them for review and have decided to refrain from answering with the wrong tone

me don't hate it
me just don't like it

@jokerdino Too much hate out in the world , stop adding to it :P

7:07 AM
nice bro
lol

lol ok sis as you say

no use in flagging if it's gonna be rejected anyway...:((

well, i am just being harsh towards the mods :P
they might remove it if you convince them before flagging.

no, you're not, you and me are just feed up with these ... you know ...

all comments are noise if there is no content on them, all comments with no content must die \o/

7:12 AM
o/ @BrunoPereira

@msPeachy o/

o/

@jokerdino yo o/

yo!

just freaked out cause his pocket was vibrating!

7:14 AM

@jokerdino quantal successfully installed will reboot and try it.

@msPeachy nice
ok. if anyone wants to contribute to ubuntu, now is the time.
i am on dev advisory team!
no idea what that would mean, but yea!

@jokerdino Oh, can I join the team? Is there coffee there? Bagels would be nice, if there are none, then nevermind.

@BrunoPereira apparently, you got to contribute to ubuntu to get into the team.

@jokerdino will the openvpn package for precise work on quantal?

7:16 AM
it is a somewhat cyclical process.
but, no coffee yet.

@jokerdino I'm up for it
What should I do

maybe some abusive emails as compensation.

@jokerdino Boooooooohhhhhhhh

@AmithKK pick a bug and submit a patch.

izx
Are 12.04.1 images available unofficially yet?

7:25 AM
@izx they aren't released yet?

@jokerdino Pick one for me please. :D

btw, need some assistance here
the link is blocked here.
@AmithKK eh. i gave you a packaging one long time ago.
@AmithKK thanks

@jokerdino Remind me again please

@AmithKK remove that please

izx
@AmithKK: don't be naughty! ;)

7:31 AM
Our school should use that

izx
@jokerdino Thanks, the daily will have to do then.

@izx ok then.

hello, anyone know about Ubuntu Cloud services? Im wondering what ubuntu cloud server aims to achieve?

izx
@stueng To rain computing down on a parched world...

7:48 AM
\o/ i'm on quantal! it is a bit slow though

hello on quantal land!

maybe because I'm running it off USB

well duh

firefox seems to freeze for a few seconds
lol

get on quantal.
if you are going to live on it, you can help file some bugs.

7:51 AM
i'm not sure if i should give up oneiric yet, i might encounter problems again like in precise
@jokerdino how many bugs have you filed?

in single digits

that narrows it down

well, it does. :P

we'll install it after I've transferred all my files, later tonight.

good night

7:56 AM
lol
it's too early for that

ok cya then.

we'll do the file transfers now, brb

bye

8:35 AM
@izx You may want to post on meta about this. From reading what you've said, I'm having a hard time understanding why I should do this in general. If something is a real answer to the question and it is not very low quality--though it could still be wrong, unlikely to work, or only answer (a significant) part of the question--it should not be removed by flagging. That doesn't mean it's a good answer worthy of an upvote, or that I think it adequately answers the question for the OP.

izx
8:54 AM
@EliahKagan No, not in general, of course. I'll try to get around to getting some clarification on meta soon.

@izx Ah. I can definitely see, in specific situations, that I should do this. You may want to let me know which cases you believe I should have done it in. Please note that on days when I'm very active on AU, and even often when I'm not extremely active, I often (not always) use up all 40 votes, sometimes well before the end of the day. So sometimes, when it seems like I should have upvoted (or downvoted) something but didn't, it could be because I was out of votes.
In any case, you may also want to post on meta--I'm not saying you shouldn't do that.

Just curious. You both employed?

@jokerdino Unfortunately no, not currently (though I've been employed and also very active on AU in the past, if that's the source of your curiosity). Fortunately I may have a small job coming up in the next couple days (as well as--hopefully--an actual career-like job in the near future, if things go well).

izx
@jokerdino Is our children learning?
But on a more serious note, sorta self-employed right now...

@EliahKagan Good luck on your future endeavours.

9:01 AM
@jokerdino Thx!

@izx eh, maybe!
@izx That's interesting to hear.

izx
@EliahKagan Thanks, I'll let you know if I see something...
@jokerdino Well, there's nothing around where I am right now but oil industry/stuff...

You are not a chemical engineer I see.

izx
Duh :)
All the good stuff is in the Bay Area ("Silicon Valley"), and some in Los Angeles, but that's not really within commuting range and I am somewhat geographically restricted ATM (but hopefully that changes soon! :)
It's interesting how answers/comments are never deleted from the actual SE database...

grr. scrolling isn't working right for me in kivy. i've got to figure it out though...swipe gestures i mean. it sort of works, but i'm fighting with it...

9:09 AM
@jokerdino why can't I create a file via context menu in Nautilus in Quantal?

izx
It appears @jokerdino and @msPeachy will contribute greatly to QQ, with one fixing the bugs the other discovers :P
2

:)) hey @izx

@izx for moderator purpose.
@izx aww poor you.
@msPeachy i can.
@izx that won't happen. but i can annoy the devs in IRC if needed.

First thing I did after a fresh install was sudo apt-get update, then it returns this
W: Failed to fetch bzip2:/var/lib/apt/lists/partial/ph.archive.ubuntu.com_ubuntu_dists_quantal_main_binary-i386_Packages Hash Sum mismatch

W: Failed to fetch bzip2:/var/lib/apt/lists/partial/ph.archive.ubuntu.com_ubuntu_dists_quantal_universe_binary-i386_Packages Hash Sum mismatch

E: Some index files failed to download. They have been ignored, or old ones used instead.

@msPeachy it won't break anything.

9:13 AM
Hash Sum mismatch? what does it mean?

haker would explain it to you :P

lol

Oh
hello

hello

o/ @hakermania

9:16 AM
/o @msPeachy
There are algorithms that read files byte by byte and generate a hash (MD5, SHA and so on)
This is used in download sites so as to confirm yourself that your file has been downloaded correctly and such
But I have not seen something like this at apt-get, although I know that it saves some md5s inside the system

@msPeachy what exactly is context menu for you? I see a Create new file in here.

it's like this

@msPeachy hm you need a template in Templates folder
then you can create things

i do have an empty templates folder

you need a template.

9:21 AM
huh. so I'm supposed to create before I can create things? what's with that

just put a template already

don't know how

Can you answer this? Sound Settings is missing all output devices http://askubuntu.com/q/176295?atw=1 #sound

Open gedit and save an empty file into templates folder

can't even see the Templates folder from the nautilus side pane, I had to browse for it...
got it now
thanks bro

9:24 AM
can see the create new file now?

New Document

ah yeah that.

\o/

Yay!

so are these the bugs you're talking about?

9:25 AM
these aren't bugs o.O
they are by design.

huh
it's supposed to be user friendly

holy crap. Daniel Holbach added me on Facebook \o/
@msPeachy what do you think you are using? KDE?

why does a user have to create a template when in precise and older versions one didn't have to?
i think so
lol
who's Daniel?

you don't talk about user friendliness when using GNOME.

whatever was the default desktop manager for Quantal, that's what I'm using
didn't install anything yet, just updating now and upgrading
not KDE, that I'm sure

9:28 AM
@msPeachy Unity used GNOME technology. Nautilus is gnome software
@msPeachy okk.
i am just being sarcastic
@msPeachy He is the Ubuntu community developer dude.

oh the dude
do you know alan pope?

@msPeachy yeah.
popey was there for my membership meeting!

who's he exactly?
popey without an e at the end

Both of them are canonical employees.

I see, because I have an Alan Pope in my Gmail contacts.

9:31 AM
how did that happen?

and I don't remember when and how did it get to my contacts list, and I only have few people in my list, like less than 20

privacy intrusion!

@jokerdino not sure how, I don't know if I've talked to him before or what, I haven't checked gmail in a very long time.

bah.

good day

9:33 AM
good day

izx
yad doog

:)

izx
what does slck stand for in @LnxSlck?
slacker? slick? :P

@jokerdino I'm serious. I checked my email last week when RT sent his novel and when I talked to him this morning, I saw an Alan Pope in my list, maybe it was there before and I just didn't notice.

izx
@msPeachy Alan Pope is an MI6 employee (British Secret Service), and Canonical is just his day cover ;)

9:35 AM
@msPeachy i don't know how he got there. really.

@izx lol oh another bond guy
@jokerdino well, I'll figure it out. Maybe I'll just stalk him

haha

@msPeachy I also have some weird contacts that I don't remember :P

that's my job :P
@hakermania you probably have mine some time ago.

oh yeah? Why so?

9:37 AM
BBL

cya kid

i filed a pair of bugs on wallch and circled you on G+

@jokerdino thanks for that :) Btw the live earth wallpaper has reached 5 downloads / min
:)

@hakermania w00t!

9:38 AM
@hakermania where's it at?

@msPeachy what?

@hakermania i liked it.

@hakermania got it, the live earth

@msPeachy yeah the live earth is a wallch's feature, a picture updating twice an hour

\o/ so, I just download it and that's it?

9:41 AM
@msPeachy you download wallch, enable the feature and that's it....

izx
Poor @msPeachy seems to have been stuck with serial non-accepters...many good answers but no accepts :(

@msPeachy you hang out with me and i show you the wonders of ubuntu community. :P

@hakermania okay will try later, still installing app and setting up Quantal, just installed it few minutes ago
@jokerdino sure thing

@msPeachy OK
@jokerdino what about your installations of Wallch/FJ in 12.10?

@izx stop checking out my profile already
it's my job to check out yours though

9:44 AM
@izx, lnxslck = linux slackware

@hakermania i got the existing repo version of wallch in 12.10.
yet to build FJ.

one of my favorite distros

will do now.

@jokerdino kk

izx
@msPeachy You're in line for an exceptional answer bounty, probably going to be the installing-Windows-after-Ubuntu one ;)
^^^ that's why I was checking out profiles, gravatars randomly disappeared for me

9:47 AM
@hakermania i can't find the source in orig.tar.gz

@jokerdino that's not possible. How did LP build it then?

i extracted the tar and it is empty

izx
@LnxSlck I started on Slackware, somewhere between 2.0 and 3.0!

@jokerdino w8

w8ing.

9:50 AM
Is this empty? (272.3 kb)

yep

@izx you?

i blame the archive manager

just added wine ppa but i got this
W: Failed to fetch http://ppa.launchpad.net/ubuntu-wine/ppa/ubuntu/dists/quantal/main/source/Sources 404 Not Found

W: Failed to fetch http://ppa.launchpad.net/ubuntu-wine/ppa/ubuntu/dists/quantal/main/binary-i386/Packages 404 Not Found

@hakermania gimme tar commands to extract

9:52 AM
@jokerdino I don't know the tar commands. But I fail to see what the problem is

mspeachy could help

help with what?

download the tar and extract it

i did but when I extracted it, this appeared

wtf guys :P

9:55 AM
@msPeachy well done.

i will try as well w8

@hakermania sorry about that.
it makes sense.
something is crashing.

@izx, damn.. that's old... i've started with slackware 7.0

help me with wine installation, already added ppa

@msPeachy it doesn't exist for quantal

9:56 AM
i can't install wine???

@hakermania if i extract myagenda, it works fine

gosh I'm gonna have to revert back to Oneiric again?

@jokerdino the most generic tar command is tar -xvzf

@jokerdino it's okay now

@aking1012 that works

9:58 AM
hey Andrew

glad to know

@msPeachy hi

it worked on my side too!
