For the love of god someone fix regular chat on ios safari!

@msPeachy it's certainly not a privilege

@RolandTaylor I don't think so too
@Mahesh no one's getting married, not yet

I think spending your life with someone who can build you up, share your joys, share your pain, and love you despite being a complete waste of time - is the privilege :D
(now, I'm not a complete waste of time really, but sometimes it feels that way :P)

4:19 PM
/me switches to silent mode before I express my serious disagreement with few things

looks like someone's been in love!

izx
Depending on your culture/beliefs, "single" and "married" don't have to be mutually exclusive states :)
Lol @mspeachy, teen angst :p @mahesh

lol, too young to know the feeling

Q: Did you know it was GNOME's birthday yesterday?

Fernhill Linux ProjectThis is the first question I have asked, and I hope it this is not an inappropriate place for it ... But I thought it was worth mentioning, sharing and posting this picture I have. :o) Happy Birthday GNOME Version 1 of the GNU Network Object Model Environment(GNOME), from 1999.

izx

Nothing is no thing, denoting the absence of something. Nothing is a pronoun associated with nothingness, as well as object as a concept in the Frege-Church ontology. In nontechnical uses, nothing denotes things lacking importance, interest, value, relevance, or significance. the state of nonexistence of anything, or the property of having nothing. Philosophy Western philosophy Some would consider the study of "nothing" to be foolish, a typical response of this type is voiced by Giacomo Casanova (1725–1798) in conversation with his landlord, one Dr. Gozzi, who also happens to be a pries...

@msPeachy I'm on an odd sleep cycle lately, so regular labels have lost their meaning...

I think dd needs to disallow writing to block devices by default and have a switch to override.
It'll save a lot of data from extinction...

5:01 PM
@msPeachy yeah lol

@izx at least he doesn't CAP everything, a little edit will do the trick

cause I haven't even had a chance to have breakfast :D

@RolandTaylor Oh i see, then you should eat now.

izx
@ObsessiveFOSS dd's id10t filter is sudo...

5:02 PM
P.S. @jrg see Stefano's comment.

@izx You need root access to read block devices.

I'm not saying it's stupid, but it's stupid.
I mean on G+ @jrg

@izx You're going to need sudo both ways.

izx
@ObsessiveFOSS Then I choose the third way..

Reading the chat logs, I need to know what the discussion about baldness was really about.

> [A] recent paper from the journal Consciousness and Cognition by psychologists at the University of Illinois confirms what many have long suspected: a couple of drinks makes workers more creative. Tipsy employees, they say, find it hard to focus on a task, but this makes them more likely to come up with innovative ideas. This may help to explain the success of Silicon Valley, one of the last workplaces in America where hard and soft drinks still jostle for space in the company fridge.

Q: Why does "Purge" not remove everything related to an app?

hunterI want to make an open source version and yes, a free version of the game age of empires 2 and the expansion pack. (i know old) But i want to do it legally so i don't commit a crime, I wish to make it easier for linux users to play the game. please help me.

Are legal issues on topic? --^

Is there a canonical question about installing graphics drivers blindly?

jrg
@ObsessiveFOSS um, no.

@ObsessiveFOSS IMO, it's asking a technical question, about how to accomplish something within certain legal restrictions. I don't know if it's on-topic, but I don't think it should be considered off-topic as a legal question. In any case, in my opinion both ObsessiveFOSS's answer and my answer are good answers that give advice within appropriate bounds, so it should probably not be closed (or maybe it should be closed as not being enough about Ubuntu, I'm not sure about that).

jrg
but you aren't a lawyer.

izx
@ObsessiveFOSS Yes, it's called installing Ubuntu and relying on the in-kernel drivers to give you enough sight to install whatever you want to...

Q: Is my ATI graphics card supported in Ubuntu?

Bruno PereiraI have an ATI graphics card and I want to know if it is supported and what kind of drivers should I be running to get the best features out of it. Is my card supported in Ubuntu and what drivers will work with my card?

izx
6:01 PM
@EliahKagan I agree, the answers have redeemed the question.

@jrg That is correct. I am not a lawyer. (I would put that at the bottom of all my posts, but the FAQ says signatures are inappropriate. ;-) )

@jrg I meant working with drivers if you can't see anything.

jrg
and if you want to write a answer here about jockey-text or whatever its called, i'd bounty this.

Q: How do I install extra drivers?

Jorge CastroI've just installed Ubuntu and I need either video, wireless, or some sort of other manufacturer (non-opensource) driver; how can I run the tool that will fetch all of these for me? I'd like graphical instructions. Related: Can I install my graphics drivers via the command prompt?

@ObsessiveFOSS the instructions are there. you just have to follow them.

izx
@jrg A Big Fat Disclaimer would be sufficient, along with the little ones the authors have inserted...

@jrg I'm asking for a friend that is physically at my location that I am introducing to AU.

izx
6:02 PM
@EliahKagan IANAL always did the trick on ye olde /.
@ObsessiveFOSS Let us know when you introduce him/her to Ubuntu and not AskUbuntu :P
Or are you just showing off how awesome AU is?

@izx Already uses Ubuntu quite avidly.

@ObsessiveFOSS Do you know how strong is the encryption of Ubuntu 'Encrypt Home' option?

jrg
@izx I think it's covered in the TOS, but i'm not sure.
@Topo Pretty strong. It's using ecryptfs, which is what Google uses for ChromeOS.

@jrg on spellathon yes, but i don't think the one word thing really counts. it's like the difference between jumble and cryptograms

izx
@Topo > eCryptfs supports a few different ciphers (AES, blowfish, twofish...). You can read about them on Wikipedia.

jrg
6:08 PM
@EliahKagan include that liability in your answer on that question.
i can't find any sort of fig leaf in the TOS.

@izx Thanks, I used to have some encryptd things on my PC, I used 1024bit serpent(or something like that) encryption and I was wandering how good was the ubuntu self encrypting home

Can you answer this? Connection failed to open the DB connection: could not find driver http://askubuntu.com/q/174509?atw=1 #mysql

@jrg If we're still talking about this question, my answer did contain "I am not a lawyer." But I have have just added italics to offset it from the rest of the answer, so it's apparent even if someone is only looking at other parts of the answer. (The thing about the FAQ was a joke--I was suggesting that if I could, I would put "I am not a lawyer." at the end of everything I ever wrote.)

jrg
@EliahKagan ok, cool.

izx
I hereby dub Nirmik LittleGenius :/
@EliahKagan: added a short disclaimer at the end of your answer, edit/rollback as appropriate askubuntu.com/a/176703/58612

just a note, kivy team figured a sort of workaround for multitouch with one mouse. r-click is depress and hold. you can drag around your focus-dot for a multi-touch one finger movement, but it still lacks multi-touch gesture(a way to lock posture and move a group)

@ObsessiveFOSS In this comment, you seem to be asserting that this project infringes copyright. But I don't think that's what you mean. You may want to clarify. (I'm respecting your request to avoid lengthening the the comment "thread" here.)

Q: Tags related to languages

ObsessiveFOSSI have seen a user tag a question with swedish, and there may be other languages. Should such tags be avoided, instead using language, language-support or localization?
