12:06 AM
:( ...

I need to modify my grub to boot into windows by default for my sisters

izx
12:20 AM
@msPeachy If it can't read sda... do you have the menu displaying?

@izx which menu? I am on the terminal.

@msPeachy I saw your edit. Be obsessive.

@ObsessiveFOSS which one?

izx
@msPeachy I mean when it boots, do have the menu set to display?

@izx yes
grub menu displays, i just need to set Windows as the default, without having to use the arrow down keys

izx
12:30 AM
@msPeachy Can you manually edit /boot/grub/grub.cfg ?
(i.e. write to it)

my sisters and mom, are noobs and sometimes the 10 seconds timeout would just end and they still haven't selected Windows.
@izx yes I can, I've already set windows as the default, but it won't take effect unless i update grub right?

izx
well, update-grub modifies /boot/grub/grub.cfg, but if it won't write to that file for some reason you can manually modify it (although another kernel upgrade/update-grub may revert it)

peachy@msPeachy:~$ cat /etc/default/grub
# If you change this file, run 'update-grub' afterwards to update
# /boot/grub/grub.cfg.
# For full documentation of the options in this file, see:
# info -f grub -n 'Simple configuration'

GRUB_DEFAULT="Windows 7 (loader) (on /dev/sda1)"
GRUB_HIDDEN_TIMEOUT=0
GRUB_HIDDEN_TIMEOUT_QUIET=true
GRUB_TIMEOUT=5
GRUB_DISTRIBUTOR=`lsb_release -i -s 2> /dev/null || echo Debian`
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash"
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX=""

izx
no, pastebin /boot/grub/grub.cfg
what error does sudo update-grub give you again?

cannot read to /dev/sda
@izx how do I pastebin again? it's too long to paste it here

izx
12:38 AM
cat /boot/grub/grub.cfg | pastebinit

izx
@msPeachy Sorry, pings were muted. Change 0 in line 13 to 4 and you should be set...

@izx okay will try that, thank you

izx
In line 61 I'd also change timeout from 10 to 60 just to make sure this works, then can change back again...
@msPeachy You're welcome! Hope it works...

@izx okay will reboot and get back to you, thank you again

12:52 AM
Glib... ready to go!

good night guys... I really worked hard today (it's 4 at the morning here).... See ya tomorrow probably :)

@izx ^
@hakermania good night

izx
1:10 AM
^^ confused at smiley (too tiny to figure out)
@hakermania Goodnight!

@izx that was me thanking you, LOL
I bat my eyelashes, when I'm grateful

izx
LOL!
@msPeachy Some might call that vamp-y :P

@izx Told you so
LOL

woo, new close votes!
@izx I'm going through them now!

izx
@JorgeCastro Thanks for the reminder, I'll get on it as well... :)
^^^ I was wondering where the number of existing votes went!

1:28 AM
.... and I am out of votes.

izx
@JorgeCastro I'm saving some for the Tools/Most Votes, a little more satisfaction seeing yours be the last vote ;)

ah
@jokerdino only 20 close vote reviews? NEED MOAR!

@JorgeCastro that's quick..

heya
you want to hit the close queue up?

hello sir

1:33 AM
it's new and easy
and tbh we need every vote we can get

is it visible to plebs like me?

yes
and click on close votes

ok, I see it
might take me some time, but this is a useful tool
I see there's a 'disagree'

izx
Disagree, Not Sure, all we're missing is rate from 0 to 10 ;)

1:52 AM
I'm seeing a few close votes for ubuntuone questions, with the reason being that they're off-topic
As far as I know, Ubuntu One is still on-topic for AU, right?

2:17 AM
@GeorgeEdison glad you figured out that _symbol problem

o/ Andrew

o/

@ajmitch yes, it's ontopic

not again:

Q: How to get rid of kubuntu-desktop completley?

AnkitSo, I installed the kubuntu-desktop 2 days ago, and to my surprise the startup screen changed from the one which shipped with ubuntu-12.04. I wanted to revert back so i used the following command:- sudo dpkg-reconfigure lightdm and selected lightgdm but the only thing that changed was the log...

@ajmitch if it's something that should be reported in launchpad as a bug it's offtopic
@aking Can you go through the queue today too?
if we can get this initial pool down we should be in good shape

2:30 AM
i got a little fatigued yesterday because i was pulling a lot of iffy ones. i'll look though

that's fine, just getting them out of the queue is a win
we seem to be stuck around 300 since it launched

ok, used all my close votes for today
askubuntu.com/review-beta/close/stats shows a few more than 300

2:45 AM
yeah
the need review is always ~300 so far
(the feature's only been live for a few days)
so if we can drive the needs-review down we can get out from underneath the hole
then we'll be good to go!

it's weird i've only used it like 3 times and i'm 4th from the top on the list of reviewers...

it's that new

and, i'm out

3:02 AM
Can you answer this? Asking for a SSTP connecting configuration file for using SSTP command line http://askubuntu.com/q/174444?atw=1 #networking

@aking1012 Good night

@msPeachy i meant of votes not for sleep

@aking1012 Oh, I forgot, you don't sleep, :))

napped a little earlier

oh okay, good, is it like midnight there right now?

3:07 AM
something like that yes. i slept a little a couple hours ago, but the A/C is set to hung meat. it was cold enough to wake me up

air condition?

yes. it seems like a good idea until it's set too low

only rich people can afford AC here

it's abnormal not to have it here, but i'm a wouldn't use it much kind of fellow

One of the reasons I sometimes get a flu is of the AC in my classroom, then when I get out of the room is so hot(warm), plus I also don't have AC at room, my body just can't seem to adjust
@aking1012 Why? Is it that hot there?

3:15 AM
more have window unit A/C...so it's odd not to have it
@Roland on cookies:

@aking1012 I see, well most of the houses here are open, too many windows

@aking1012: Well... I kind of just replaced the symbol with its literal string value.

@GeorgeEdison as long as it works right...

It worked, so... that's good...

so you didn't just move the:
_whatever = whatever;
whatever = char [];
declaration? *if i remember it right*
@msPeachy phillipines, so i guess that makes sense. water damage being common? so thick walls or burying shipping containers for environmental control is right out

3:25 AM
Hi everyone

@aking1012 yes phipplines
@RolandTaylor hey you

@RolandTaylor hi i thought you might get a kick out of the cookies video

@msPeachy oi :)
@aking1012 lol thanks :D

@msPeachy yes that is what i was thinking. wind and monsoon season would make the burying shipping containers for housing thing not-economical (along with population density)

@aking1012 when I was a little girl, that's what our house looked liked, when me and my sisters got a job, we built a bigger one

3:28 AM
OH NO
NOW I know what it is D:
Share it maybe... call me maybe...
aahhhhhhhhhh
@msPeachy that's actually kinda cool

@msPeachy see family units here tend to operate differently. instead of building a larger family unit and standard of living there's an irrational push for everyone to have their own little piece of consumerism
needs to stop before it turns into a rant

@aking1012 :)) I know it's different there. You all seem to want to move out and be independent.
While we can't bear to leave our family, parents, siblings, we are taught at the very early age that family's all you've really got and God.

not necessarily. it's culture shock from a previous generation when that was anticipated and a later generation experiencing the impact of worthless degrees/certifications

@RolandTaylor it is?
I'm trying to find a photo of our house now.

@msPeachy to me
(oh no dejavu)

3:37 AM
I remember when I was still in high school, that every time it rained most of our clothes and things would get wet from the rain, and if there's a typhoon we all have to evacuate
@RolandTaylor why dejavu?

:(
@msPeachy because I remember some parts of this conversation
or one like it

@RolandTaylor our conversation?

I think we said some of the same things before
or at least I hope so :{

I tend to have dejavu a lot (or see things before they happen)... but I very sure we had some of this conversation when we first met on here

3:39 AM
@RolandTaylor the joke is glitch in the matrix, but this is way funnier

(including me saying dejavu)
@aking1012 lol
@GeorgeEdison so many times lol

That's not even the best one.

@GeorgeEdison i'm having a sort of similar issue with kivy using size hints based on percentage and a slider widget needing a fixed button size.

@GeorgeEdison oh you
lol

3:42 AM
@RolandTaylor oh I see

View source for an extra treat.

@GeorgeEdison let me guess, tables :D

Nope.

@msPeachy at least it's not like my worst Dejavu ever. We even have a picture from the night. I finished my parent's sentences that night, and it was flipping disturbing o_o

@aking1012 well degrees and certifications are not that worthless

3:44 AM
Okay back on topic now

@msPeachy erm...my experience has been different

@GeorgeEdison LOL
Found it :D

@GeorgeEdison you can't tell me this doesn't look better than the other though

@RolandTaylor all the topics now are off-topic

3:48 AM
@msPeachy lol you have a point there.

@aking1012 I see. It helps to have a degree and all that, like I wouldn't have been able to help my parents live a better life if it wasn't for my degree and certificates. I do understand your point, when I graduated, I had a hard time finding a job, it seems like whatever I went through in school for 14 years were worthless, but I did find a good job three years later.

i had a relatively more steep deadline
code for both sets of UI: sendspace.com/file/px6amr

4:14 AM
@RolandTaylor finally tried editing tag wikis

@msPeachy awesome

I'm moving all of the branches and recipes to ~win-cross-dev so anyone in the team can help.
Announcement: I am looking for anyone interested in cross-platform development targeting Win32/64 and familiar with Debian packaging, GNU automake / CMake, and Launchpad to help out with the project. It is ambitious.
8

I like the project, but I am with imminent loss of internet sir...you still got a star though

Thanks. I totally understand.
It might take a bit of momentum before people start hoping on board.
Once I actually succeed in cross-compiling something like the Gimp... then people might be interested.

No I mean, if I had the requisites time, internet, etc, etc I could def see putting a couple of hours a day towards that type of project. I'm amazed that it just happened

4:24 AM
@msPeachy I'm approving as you go :)

What's really fun is using my Python 'wincross' script.
All I have to do to cross-compile a source tarball is:
wincross configure
...or for Win64:
wincross configure --architecture=64
...and the script sets all the environment variables, etc.

that's interesting do they have a script for:
rimshot

@RolandTaylor Sorry for the delay, didn't notice the chat windows was closed, thank you for the approvals.

@msPeachy you're welcome

I'll have about 3 or 4 packages to build once the PPA builders come back online.

4:30 AM
@GeorgeEdison we know you're awesome...you don't have to keep proving it...

@RolandTaylor it pays to have friends in higher places.

@msPeachy it pays to have friends - at all :D
but yes, it does :)

@RolandTaylor or should I say, it pays to have friends with 2k+ reps

@msPeachy ;)

@msPeachy you got it right the first time

4:32 AM
speaking of which, I'm 2k away from 30k

@aking1012 lol
you mean this is the only time I wrote something, you agreed on?
@RolandTaylor i'll get you to 30k

i agree with you quite often, i just don't voice "affirmative". so silence is either agreement or indifference

@msPeachy :O don't vote for me too many times at once

@aking1012 good
@RolandTaylor oh I only do it 3 times a day, if I don't forget, lol

oh that's cool ^_^
I hope you vote only on my good answers lol

4:38 AM
Of course I read it first. I've actually bookmarked you and other awesome members' profiles, so it is easier to vote. But I only do that, once I'm done reviewing answers and questions on which I do vote too, If I have votes left, that's when I visit your profiles.

Ahh
You're very organized ^_^
me gusta

me gusto

lol dialects

yeah, there are actually dialects here that is almost if not similar to Spanish

it's really confusing here in the Caribbean, because there are some changes to the language such as the replacement of v with b and b with v

4:49 AM
you do speak English there?
@RolandTaylor I only get to speak English in my classroom

@msPeachy yeah my country's official language is English

good for you

there is some discussion going on about adding Spanish as a second language
we have a local dialect as well, but it's rather loose

I only get to practice my English here or inside my classroom but I do need to translate everything that I say to our native language too

wow that must not be easy

4:53 AM
it isn't
I'm struggling with my English! coz I don't get to practice it orally as much as I want to

:(
most people there don't speak English, right?

I once work on an Internet cafe which was just next door to a hotel and foreigners just come and go, rent the computer and all, I had a hard time talking to them, I mean I know what I want to say but I just can't think or say it fast enough.

from a number of people i talked to, there are large-ish expatriate english speaking communities in the phillipines...although not necessarily in your area

@RolandTaylor Most doesn't speak English but most do understand English
we can't just speak it well

same with me and french...i think that's a use thing

4:56 AM
@msPeachy oh I understand
it's kind of a shame though that English has such dominance in the world
it is us English speakers who should be forced to integrate by learning other languages
(just my opinion)

@aking1012 Yes there are, in Makati, Manila and Cebu
@RolandTaylor Well, what other languages do you understand and speak?

@RolandTaylor on that one, i kind of have to disagree...whatever is dominant should be at least understood. if you're trying to communicate across a language barrier the fact that i can speak english but understand french could help. speaking a bunch of languages isn't necessarily requisite

@msPeachy currently only a little Spanish
@aking1012 I have a lot of respect for those who can speak multiple languages and are forced to learn English, because in my opinion it wouldn't be this way if history had gone a little differently, and it kinda ticks me off when people think that someone isn't intelligent because they don't speak the dominant language

I speak 3, English and 2 local language, I understand a little bit of Spanish and tiny bit of Nihongo
