its sometimes easier for me to open a new tab than to find the tab

hey @jrg I can't get any of these 2 methods to work (the tumblr) ones
can you try it? I am pretty sure it's my ruby thing not finding gems

jrg
does a new clone of octopress

$ ruby -rubygems -e 'require "jekyll/migrators/tumblr"; Jekyll::Tumblr.process("http://www.your_blog_url.com", true)'

O hai @ManishSinha!

@jrg Install activity-log-manager-control-center
@OctavianDamiean hey

3:13 PM
@jrg I told you so (@ManishSinha)

jrg
@ManishSinha shouldn't it be installed by default in 12.04 though? In other words, i'm asking "is this a bug"?

@jokerdino @jrg It will be put in iso seeds
by 13-14th
it is uploaded
to check if nothing breaks
and also to pass the NEW queue (if Ubuntu has it)

Oh right. It is there but not there.

switch will be flipped
in the next release of alm

jrg
@JorgeCastro i think you need to install the 'nokogiri' gem.

3:14 PM
ruby. :)

The activity journal can never be opened in Precise :(

@jokerdino you too facing this issue?

@ManishSinha yeah, ruby. :O
@jrg ok I will give that a shot

@ManishSinha For almost a month.

GNOME Activity Journal
Undecided / Fix Committed
I fixed it in trunk

3:16 PM
I marked it as affecting me.

@jokerdino can you confirm this is the issue
try opening from console

Same thing.

this thing needs to be ported to pygi

jrg
weird, @JorgeCastro are you getting the CGI (LoadError) as well?

@ManishSinha It is the same end result, but different bug you mean?

3:19 PM
nope
your looks like a seperateb ug

Hmm, ok filing it then.

please use apport
if possible

Sure.

jrg
hangon, I think I figured it out @JorgeCastro.

@jrg hey if it imports for you, wanna just tarball up the pages?
that would save me a hella amount of time

jrg
3:24 PM
yeah, i will
let me check my oneiric, because i seem to remember some bug with precise and 1.9.*

@ManishSinha bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-activity-journal/+bug/… not sure if this is a duplicate bug.

if it is found to be so, then will mark it as so.

@jrg heh yeah, my whole household is precise except the xbmc box, and I'm not going to go through that install on an Atom. :)

jrg
heh
Odd, i can't get cgi. Odd....

lol - but every canadian should watch.

3:45 PM
Canada needs: FEWER SQUIRRELS

or empty lines would do as well

jrg
@JorgeCastro weird, i can't get this working

whew, so I'm not totally retarded

jrg
ok, this is going to sound stupid, but
whatever happened to good 'ol rss imports? :P

Hello guys :D

3:48 PM
Hi Amith
I am actually liking the non dodgy launcher now.
My productivity shot up by a few miles.

Hey @jokerdino

@jokerdino Lets talk about the India-South LoCo

Off topic guys.. New room perhaps?

3:52 PM
@jrg \o/ Good luck
Hey @RolandTaylor
Sigh ... Apple HAS to stop AutoCorrect by default

@ManishSinha We were discussing the potential of having Ubuntu in Indian English. As a leader of Indian loco, your thoughts to this is crucial.

It corrected this msg:
@jokerdino Psst Room ---->>>

@jokerdino which city?

@ManishSinha The whole of south

jrg
@JorgeCastro this might be enough for me to ditch RVM... :S

3:55 PM
hah

jrg
idk yet though

let's not tell Marco
3

jrg
lol

@jokerdino I am not leader of Indian LoCo, but yeah, being a leader does not matter

he could probably figure it out in 5 minutes
really though, I can' t believe people put up with this every day

3:55 PM
@JorgeCastro lolol

jrg
Well its spitting a weird cgi require thing.

no wonder ruby kids are all druggies

@JorgeCastro ಠ_ಠ We are not druggies (:D)

jrg
@JorgeCastro Hey, I'm not a druggie. ;P
although i did laugh

@ManishSinha Oh hmm.

3:56 PM
Indian LoCo is somewhat inactive
but translaters are active

jrg
anyway, i think i can blame some odd code on this, because I had it working last weekish.

What about Indian English? D:
@ManishSinha Wait, you are Indian Loco contact?

@jokerdino I am one of the contact, but the LoCo is pretty much inactive
because most people are either students

@ManishSinha I can see that, We need to fix that

3:58 PM
or work at bangalore (a heavily crowded rush filled city)
yes
we need to

@ManishSinha Tell Me about it! Traffic.....Traffic.....Traffic

yeah

jrg

jrg
4:02 PM
Now @RolandTaylor won't know what day of the week it is because I removed the nightly PPA build that was failing. :P

@jrg May I have a insight to what is going on?

@AmithKK nope

jrg
@AmithKK never.

gaaah :D

4:05 PM
@RolandTaylor Ah, Nice trick

jrg

jrg
4:29 PM
@JorgeCastro i'm about to install rbenv, i'll see if I can get those blog posts for you.

jrg
because the fact that it worked last week is driving me crazy. :P

starts typing question; realizes it'd probably be better on the site
:P

@RolandTaylor I hate you... goes off to other rooms to trick people with this

jrg
@John Ask there and then drop a link here. :)

4:36 PM
@jrg I plan on it. :) Assuming I don't find the question already asked first... I'm still looking.
For all I know my "problem" could be exactly what's supposed to happen. :P

jrg
well what is it?
because I might be able to help

Whenever I close a window, instead of going away, like I'm used to, it just blurs.
Is that normal?

@John No

jrg
nope
11.10 or 12.04?

Oh, Where are my manners

4:38 PM
As a result, my desktop is littered with dozens of blurry windows.
@jrg 11.10.

Hey @John

Just upgraded yesterday then this happened.
@AmithKK Hi!

jrg
Ask on the site, because let me tell you now, thats not the normal behavior.

@jrg Alright. Thank you

@GeorgeEdison when you're not busy, got a couple of questions for you regarding StackApplet

4:39 PM
@John Your desktop was automatically updated to the new 'smart DE', which determines whether or not you actually wanted to close the window.. It appears to me the computer has out smarted you and thinks these windows are in fact meant to be left open. So as a UX decision the designers decided to blur them out. The workaround is to smear your monitor with Unicorn blood off a paint brush made from a Ponies mane.. but that only works if you have compiz

jrg
@John :)

@rlemon If that's the case, how do I get them back? :P
Because otherwise, they're useless blurred out.

@rlemon :D

jrg
@rlemon um... are you just playing with him?

@John i provided a workaround.

4:41 PM
@jrg I sure hope so...

@rlemon um... you realize this is technically a support room right?

@rlemon Right...because Unicorn blood is so easy to get...

@MarcoCeppi when you have a sec, why was this deleted: askubuntu.com/a/42543/1992?

@John follow Hagrid into the forbidden forest and wait for Voldermort to feast!

@ThomasWard general discussion. non-offensive off topic trolls have always been acceptable.

@MarcoCeppi oh nvm, I see

jrg
@RolandTaylor you mean this one? - askubuntu.com/a/42535/6005

Ok...it's working now.... UBUNTU Y U MESS WITH MY BRAIN
Windows are going away correctly...

I take full credit!

4:44 PM
@jrg yesh

That started as soon as I tried to take a screenshot to add to my question...

@rlemon :D
nice!!!!

Night

@rlemon Not being found is the troll, isn't it?

We need to make gif that combines them

4:44 PM
@AmithKK Goodnight!

@John that is an unexpected troll... WP sucks.

@rlemon Oooh ok.

jrg
@RolandTaylor I deleted that one because it already listed as an answer.

@John WP trolled my trolling attempt to re-troll a troll.
2

@jrg yeah

4:46 PM
@rlemon Woo! My first mention in a starred message here :P

@John make life more interesting... Install the Unicorn Staring UserScript

@rlemon The link only tries to install it.... what does it do?

when you star or unstar a message unicorns appear.

I think it fixed when this AWN applet quit trying to load...

for github take the /raw away from the uri

4:49 PM
@rlemon See, I misread that as "Unicorn Staring" as in "Staring at Unicorns".
Methinks it needs another "r".

probably
on starr ^

@rlemon I remember that! That was a good day. :)

on unstarr ^

This reminds me: I wonder what SE is doing for April fools this year.

grrrr. star is one r... starring is two GET IT RIGHT ROB!

4:50 PM
oh god..........

I approve. :)
I like the new dock behavior.

/me needs to set up a 12.04 VM when I get home tonight... anyone wanna assist me in aprox. 6 hours time?

@rlemon I can try, but no guarantees.

as payment I can write any (small, time is money) JS scripts or UserScripts for you.. i'm also getting pretty good with GIMP if you need any minor image editing

jrg
@rlemon Sure.

4:53 PM
I am a no-fuss no-jquery kinda js developer.

jrg
I can help with 12.04
Heck, i'm running 12.04

@jrg will you be around in 6 hours?
noon here, 5pm home time + commute home + bathroom breaks == 6pm :<

jrg
Yeah.
I'm in the same timezone remember. ;)

Anyone got some free time to update some old questions/answers?
I'm trying to go through one at a time, looking for outdated info.
I started with this media player list, updating info and adding newer screenshots, but I'm sure there must be more out there that could do with an update :).

@rlemon Thanks for that. This link is getting me stars in other rooms now. :P

I will create a auto-star userscript that allows you to input the userID and the keyword(s)
I know people will hate me for this... but It has to be made.

That would be pretty useful.
Every time George speaks - should be starred.

IF user = jrg AND message.indexOf(keyword) >= 0 THEN gimmie dem unicorns!

I would make a George Edison idol, but that's not allowed in my belief system :P.

5:36 PM
Whats his id?

@rlemon 6005

I forgot
brb

Wait that's AU.

1345 is what I see in the chat.

@rlemon Yeah, chat accounts have separate UID's.

5:38 PM
@RolandTaylor var to=[];$('div.user-container.user-1345').each(function(i,el) { to[i] = setTimeout(function() { $(el).find('span.stars:not(.user-star) span.img.vote').first().trigger('click'); }, to.length*1100) }); I auto-Star everything @GeorgeEdison says in the current chat view.

Would you agree that in its current form, this is unanswerable? - askubuntu.com/questions/103110/how-to-harden-a-ubuntu-desktop

It's a bit of a "I don't want to Google, and I want to get some opinion, so uh... here" question, but it actually can be answered to some extent.

jrg
i left a comment - i'll let it go at that

For example, an answer could consist of:

- Install Pesselus,
- Edit the hosts file
- Use a shared, central firewall
- Find out that they have a group of ten hackers among the 80
- Panic.
(Sorry I couldn't resist the last two lines)

- change nothing
- proceed with 80 installations
- Hope to god nothing goes wrong
- ???
- Blame the other guy

Q: How do I enable Unity when using Ubuntu 12.04 Alpha 2?

oshirowanenAt the moment, I am using Ubuntu 10.04 with visual effects on, i.e. with the shadows behind the windows, the windows wobble when moving etc. I downloaded Ubuntu 12.04 Alpha 2 and booted up using the livecd and typed echo $DESKTOP_SESSION in a terminal window. A: How do I mount a CIFS share?

map7There is pyNeighborhood which is a gui for mounting samba shares and available in the software centre for download. There is a good article located here on how to set it up and use it. Alternatively the basic terminal command is mount -t cifs -o username=USERNAME,password=PASSWD //192.168.1.88/...

Is that a valid answer to a question about CIFS? (I'm not too knowledgeable on nfs)

A) when did the options to the right drop down from the topbar to the middle bar
B) when did google start calling out if links were shared by my g+ circles

@rlemon It's been doing that for a long time now.
@rlemon Since a loooong time ago.

@GeorgeEdison I (honest to god) only started getting this today. I was on g+ two days ago and they were small and in the black bar.
and seriously... I guess I just never search for things you guys post or share on g+

@rlemon Hmm... maybe they only rolled it out to certain users at a time.

@GeorgeEdison possibly by demographic
