I think you're going to say i'm an idiot, and that a bad tag is a bad tag and then say kill it anyway.

I don't think we're supposed to have bad tags

@JorgeCastro @jrg @BrunoPereira @AmithKK I've just pushed a fairly major update to the cleanup site that speeds up the updating and allocation by several orders of magnitude. I've also fixed a few bugs and I'll be going through the feature request/bug splatterer tomorrow with a view to take it public just in time for a few new moderators to get the first big wave of flags
And because allocating is so much quicker now, limits are also now double what they were. (50 per day)

Hey.
I have a question for you.

@GeorgeEdison Hey :D

I'm adding rich snippet data to 2buntu so that the articles look nicer when they show up in search results.
Can I add your Google profile to your 2buntu profile?

@GeorgeEdison Yep

Then your name will (hopefully) appear next to search results.
Okay. It might take a bit of time for me to get it all sorted out.

6:50 AM
Sweet!
@Oli SWWS! The cleanup is showing closed posts!

@Sathya I know
How can I get google to index a subdomain?

@AmithKK I know.
I've got it set up for my articles.
I just need to get it set up for everyone else.

Hello Guys :)

I'll have to talk to @Roland about having www.2buntu.com instead of 2buntu.com.

7:15 AM
@Achu Hey
@GeorgeEdison Cant you get google to do indexing of subdomains?

I can't get Google to index anything.
Google indexes pages autonomously.

@AmithKK it's irrelevant whether page is on a domain or a subdomain. As long as robots doesn't say disallow, it'll get indexed

Does anyone know if WordPress will host plugins that don't exactly follow their coding style?

@GeorgeEdison Can you please add me to 2buntu's analytics page?

7:22 AM
@AmithKK fwiw it's already indexed

looks like I missed an interesting discussion about . for the record, @jrg, I think the tag should be destroyed, clearly. It's a meta-tag, not useful by itself. The rationale to keep it also works for [translation-required], [beginner], and so on.
also, the blacklisted tag popping up when someone tries to ask a question will, perhaps, make them select tags more carefully.
love your enthusiasm for keeping the site clean though (:

A: How to hide the Bluetooth icon in the panel?

jokerdinoYou can hide the Bluetooth icon from the top panel rather easily. To do that, search for Bluetooth in the dash. Then, untick the check box next to the 'Show Bluetooth status in the menu bar'. This was quite a new feature added in as a result of this bug report.

Can you check if there is such an option in 11.10 yet?

@rlemon this is pretty good, it only measures programs in userspace though: top -b -d1 -n1|grep -i "Cpu(s)"|head -c21|cut -d ' ' -f3|cut -d '%' -f1

I haven't actually tried installing from my PPA :D

@StefanoPalazzo it seems to be fairly accurate (Within 5%) when checking it against System Monitor.

jrg
@jokerdino not sure, i'm waiting for it to finish the --simulate

oh right

jrg
2:52 PM
running precise is starting to make me paranoid. :P

top -b -d1 -n1|grep -i "Cpu(s)"|head -c21|cut -d ' ' -f3|cut -d '%' -f1 returns 2.2 always

jrg
"New update huh? Lemme run that dist-upgrade with a --simulate first, because you might not work"

@rlemon you want to make sure it doesn't use much CPU itself. I have a script called "hogs" that shows the worst processes from "ps", and the program itself is always there with 6% load
to be fair, it's loading 26 megabytes of python interpreter.

@StefanoPalazzo it is moreso for remote monitoring my server.. I know there are tools but I figured I could just quickly generate a little google api chart and access it from my phone.

jrg
@jokerdino it works. the version in your PPA has a quicklist.

2:55 PM
@rlemon why not use load instead? that's accurate and easy to get

and besides... having this information in image form is always useful (embedding on your desktop maybe?)

@jrg Nice!

@StefanoPalazzo I will be monitoring a whole lot of things.. cpu usage was just a start.

I've tried adding up all of the processes in "ps aux", but that's going to be very wrong of something has a lot of child-processes, like chrome. I suppose top won't do much better.
if your script is within 5%, I'd say "good work" and move on (:

lol

downvote + flag is kinda redundant.
on SO I can see this being a bit more valid... AU we tend to just close off bad questions.. or at least that is what I see. IMO downvoting should be reserved for bad Answers and poorly asked, but valid, questions.

but if the op changes the way he asks the question is it very valid and open for answers.
the question itself is valid... the approach is not.
valid, bad question = downvote.
invalid, not a question = close vote.
system auto downvoting something like that.. where the OP reported it here when there was no bug report... I think he has a very good question and just didn't know to watch the bug reports or even search them.

Q: Regarding "Low Quality" flag

more meta :P

it's a good "work queue" until you're out of votes/flags

Awesome!

@Octavia I'm third there :D

@JorgeCastro It's not quite - There's one more set of improvements I need to push and test before it's ready.

ah ok

@Oli :D Thank you, A lot for that

@Oli did my idea about putting a question a person acted on in the next person's queue make the cut?

competitive clean up, mhmm, sounds nice and dangerous.

@Oli can you take a look at meta.askubuntu.com/questions/2541/… ?

@JorgeCastro Yeah, that's one of the improvements I'm considering. I'm looking at making something currently allocated available for assist-allocations so other people can help. It's either going to be a non-scoring free for all (ie publish a list of questions that need votes, etc) or so a person can mark one of their questions as "needing help" so it goes through the allocation system again (but prioritised) so other people get to get points from it too.
I'm honestly not sure which is most feasible at the moment.

/me nods
@OctavianDamiean I don't even care about the leadership board actually, I just want to see some of these questions either updated or resolved.

@JorgeCastro watches as his place as #1 on the leaderboard falls ;)

Q: SSH graphical session without graphical environment installed on server

MiseryI am quite a noob in network/server stuff and I don't really know where to begin. I am using Ubuntu Lucid 10.04 on my PC, and I have also Debian SSH server on another machine in my LAN. I would like to be able to use a graphical session from Ubuntu while accessing Debian server. Is it possible, a...

I was never #1 on that one, heh

jrg
You were, but then I just kinda blew past you. :P

Ohai @jrg

plus, we went from almost 72% to 77% in less than a month on answer rate.
This razor focus is really paying off.

@JorgeCastro I totally understand your intention the problem is that it kinda defeats the purpose of the close vote / flag system.

jrg
Took me a week and a few dozen of Marco's close votes. :P

@How so?
The problem is the questions are hard to find. (IMO)

@AmithKK heya

4:21 PM
@Jorge I'm going to try my best to get to you
@jrg I appreciate your short name. So much on this android

The reason that close votes and flags don't generate reputation is to not have people just blindly vote to close and flag stuff. It is also one of the reasons why the flag weight is gone.

I'm using the site to find questions that need help, I'm not really getting reputation from doing cleanup
well, actually, finding those old questions and answering them and getting votes on the answers can get you badges

I'm not implying that you would do that I'm just trying to say that the concept of competitive clean ups might be dangerous.

but if they were easy questions to begin with they wouldn't be on the cleanup thing to begin with

Exactly

4:23 PM
@OctavianDamiean oh I see

However I like the idea of the script.

yeah, but who cares about that! :)

BBT.. Wish me luck on my exam.. ill need it

Oli
@OctavianDamiean In fairness to it, we're only targeting old questions and if there are complaints about things getting closed, the mods get involved. I can see if a question was part of the clean-up and who it was allocated to so if people abuse it, we can abuse them

@Rogers Y U SELL ME VOICEMAIL BUT NO LEAVE ME ONE WHEN YOU CALL!!!???!!!

@Oli I see.

Q: Remapping keyboard shortcuts (copy, paste etc) to Alt key instead of Ctrl

Eren TantekinInterestingly, it turns out this is almost impossible to do. Remapping Alt key to behave as Ctrl key is not a solution because you lose the Alt key functionalities (some of which are essential, like Alt+Tab). The behavior I am trying to get is the behavior of the MacOS where cmd key is used for ...
