Right, got it thanks.

Oli
@RolandTaylor Despite the flag, he was right about your sarcasm. (Deleted comments aren't that deleted).
@GeorgeEdison Not sure if you got an answer to "what does ≈ mean?"
It means 'approximately equal to'.

10:21 PM
I know what it means... I was just wondering why it was there.

@Oli what are moderator responsibilities? may I ask?

Oli
@GeorgeEdison I see, you did get an answer to that, didn't you?

We believe deeply in community moderation. That’s why we appoint Pro Tempore Moderators and, ideally, democratically elected community moderators for every site in our network. But what do community moderators do? The short answer is, as little as possible!

From the very first version of Stack Overflow faq way back in mid-2008, our goal has always been to give power back to the community:

Stack Overflow is run by you! If you want to help us run Stack Overflow, you’ll need reputation first. Reputation is a (very) rough measurement of how much the Stack Overflow community trusts you. R …

There you go. ;)

Not really... I thought E exactly equalled MC^2.

Would it be the relativity theory if it wouldn't be relative? :D

Oli
10:24 PM
@GeorgeEdison Well it probably does still but Einstein based that on the speed of light (C) being the fastest thing in the universe. If neutrinos go faster than light (as recently measured - perhaps incorrectly) then C might be wrong. It might not. But that's all relative :)

@OctavianDamiean thank you so much ;)

Oli
@Explorer Dealing with flags. Laying down the law. Dealing with more flags. Flying the corporate jet. Occasionally ontological debates on the StackExchange debating lawn. Dealing with more flags. Dealing with @AmithKK. And if Marco hasn't woken up and dealt with them all, dealing with even more damned flags, like a boss. You know, the usual.

@Oli Don't forget: Promote Synergy

@Oli the problem is long dead.

Oli
10:26 PM
Haha!

@Oli that's a cool bug, can't you find a game where that translate to an awesome cheat? :P

BURY it.
Thanks.

_should probably mention that he is a panda bear @htorque :D

haha

Oli
We can also edit comments.
And chat.

10:29 PM
A red panda bear?

@Oli I know.

Oli
That's essentially just a raccoon.

I'm just saying, the problem has been hashed out, I was driven from the face of the earth, now give it a rest.

damned typos

Oli
10:30 PM
@RolandTaylor I'm talking to @OctavianDamiean - I've buried and long forgotten about this. You're the one that keeps digging it up.

@Oli oh my apologies... I came to the room and there was a @ping to me...
Kinda misleading...

@GeorgeEdison apparently is a stalker.

My apologies for a human error.

Oli
@RolandTaylor Well there was one about the flag you left (I thought it was mildly hypocritical or ironic... or another of those words that means that sort of thing). But yeah, it's all dealt with. Nothing to see here, there or anywhere else.
Why hasn't man domesticated bears? I'd bloody love to have a bear.

lol
Because they tend to eat you when they get too hungry or just feel like doing so.

Oli
10:33 PM
Not one of these sissy panda bears. Like 18' tall and covered in ninjas and spikes.

Long package name: python-central-debhelper-sequence-addon.

Get a red panda. That is probably the only bear that won't eat you. That one and Winnie the Pooh.

Oli
@OctavianDamiean They're not bears though. They're raccoons.
Cute as anything... But still raccoons.

Er... a panda is a raccoon?

It is actually not a raccoon. It has its own family.

10:38 PM
@Oli I was wondering if telling that who is(was) right about whom is one of them, seems it's not

Oli
Well apparently it's not a raccoon either. But it's close. It's the result of an orgy containing a raccoon, a skunk, a housecat and a weasel. And probably Hasselhoff. But it's most like a raccoon.
@GeorgeEdison Red panda. Normal great pandas are bears.

Oh lol!

Red pandas... how'd we get on to that?

Oli
I blame a glitch in @JorgeCastro's programming.

@Oli Another SEGFAULT?

Oli
10:40 PM
Yeah I think I need to enable BADRAM on his next kernel update.

...or add the nosplash parameter to GRUB :P

jrg
10:54 PM
@Oli Don't forget, dealing with me. :P
@GeorgeEdison what, I leave for a few minutes and you start posting pictures of random pandas in the room?!
Can't leave anyone here alone for more than a few moments. :P

You're right.

jrg
whoa, just had a unity crash.
been awhile since one of those. serious

unity doesn't crash. never. :P
capture it, report it, fix committed, fix released.

jrg
can't even replicate it, it was a "BOOM CRASH RESTART" bug.

nothing in /var/crash?
maybe enable apport already in /etc/default/apport

jrg
10:57 PM
haven't gotten to it yet, busy restoring my backup with all my codez.

of course, turn it off, if it gets too annoying :D
jrg haz teh codez!

jrg
nothing..

Just do a mv -R / /dev/null. Problem solved.

jrg
shakes head you guys are horrible sometimes... :P
@OctavianDamiean technically you don't need the -R...
oh wait that's for cp.

Bash experts?
It's expanding $SEQUENCE to EQUENCE...

10:59 PM
You might not need it for mv either. I just wanted to make sure it breaks everything. :D
2

jrg
@GeorgeEdison hm, not sure.

@GeorgeEdison "$SEQUENCE" maybe?

I'll try that.
That wasn't the problem.
Now it expands to "EQUENCE".

btw, `cmd` is discouraged, use $(cmd) instead. :-)
SEQUENCE=$(if [ $(lsb_release -rs) = "10.04" ] ; then echo "python-central" ; else echo "python2" ; fi)
returns python2 here

Hey, I found a bug... I'm nesting the '`' operator.
@htorque Yeah, thanks.
I'll retry the build now.
Er.. nope.

11:07 PM
gl & hf, i'll be off ;-)

Still broken.

:-(

I don't think it's a bash issue though.

that gotta be a problem with make then

Maybe some problem with MAKE.

11:07 PM
ya

Bounty offered: Install packages without starting background processes and services http://askubuntu.com/questions/74061/install-packages-without-starting-background-processes-and-services #aptget

11:45 PM
@GeorgeEdison you're not going to be able to use debhelper 8 on lucid unless you grab a backport of it

@ajmitch debhelper 8?
I'm not too good with packaging.

I'm getting LP build failures from the audataserver-daily recipe
You're trying to use tools for building the package that don't have a new enough version in lucid, but you're also probably not using any 8.x specific features

Oh, yeah - I'm working on the package problem.
Seems like Lucid is missing Debian/Debhelper/Sequence/python2.pm.
But is has Debian/Debhelper/Sequence/python_central.pm.
So I'm modifying the rules file to account for that.

Right, they're quite different in some ways

...uh-oh :)
What do I need to do then to have the package build nicely on Lucid then?

11:49 PM
python-support & python-central were deprecated, there are a few other things you'd need to change in debian/control
it's not so bad for a python package that doesn't ship any modules, but I don't know what your source does

Well, let me quickly retry the Lucid build - I've made some changes to it.

Does it make ponies fly?

@OctavianDamiean It will when it's done.

Awesome!

@GeorgeEdison why do you need any python bits in there at all? the only python-related file that I can see is an example which uses ctypes

11:53 PM
@ajmitch Which package are we talking about now?

@GeorgeEdison I'm looking at audataserver, the branch on LP\

Ooooh. I thought you were talking about audataserver-proxy.

no...

I can fix audataserver easily.
Fixed and another build for Lucid dispatched...

user32131I have installed Ubuntu One on Windows 7. I have checked the "Connect Automatically when computer starts" option in the Settings tab, however I cannot see any indication that it is running. There is nothing in the Processes tab in the Task Manager until I manually start the application. How ca...

i'm not sure that's correctly placed in AskUbuntu
i mean, the only Ubuntu-related thing is Ubuntu One
for WINDOWS

11:59 PM
Well it is Ubuntu One nonetheless.

jrg
@TheEvilOne we've covered this before, it's related to an ubuntu product so it's A-OK.

So it is on topic. That -^

jrg
Why is this protected?
